Think someone said upthread that the 309 driver doesn't reduce clock speed while idle - just tried 310.90 and it works (135 and 202.5mhz).

Bump on this note. Would be great to get this figured out for the Win8 model.

I meant the newest display drivers you can download from nvidia's website, amal's bios drivers are still good and I'm not a programmer haha.

    Hello!

I have fixed the loudness problem.

Turns out the cooling for GPU is superb but it's the CPU that is the main source of heat.

I limited the CPU to 20% (amazingly smooth gameplay as it was using GPU on it's full potential) and played the game. Temps were ~60 and didn't go torpedo.

This was essential when playing in library and hope this tip is useful for someone else too.

Just got dead space 3, ultra setting not available so I guess the game reckons the 640m is not good enough. Pretty smooth on Very High though.
Also beginning to experience battery drain if it's plugged in and charging while I'm playing.

Do these OC bioses play well with Linux? I'm dual-booting Ubuntu 12.10 x64/Win7 x64 on my svs151190x. I can flash bios from Windows or boot into a flash utility if there's one available.

So, just out of curiosity, what kind of FPS is everyone getting on BF3?

i normally sit around 40-50 FPS on the newer maps, and 60fps on one of the wide open ones with no action going on.

anyone know of any tweaks to get this running a bit better?

ive got motion blur turned off, screen res down to 1440x900, and pretty much everything on low.

Are you interested in something specific?
It simply alters maximum clock. I don't use the graphics card when using ubuntu, but i have experienced no problems whatsoever using bumblebee to deactivate it.

    Hi,
Just to be sure, when you talk about reducing CPU to 20% you mean the setting in the max processor state of the power plan?
    Thanks

hi i'm new here ad sorry for my bad english but i'm from Italy.. first of all i make my compliments for this beautyfull forum :)

i just buy a customized vaio s 15', svs1513 series with 640m LE and this thread is very interesting about this GPU, but i've one question:

many years ago, when i've a an acer 5920G whit a 8600m GT i overclocked the gpu via flashing bios, in this case extract original bios, modded using NiBiTor software and flashing with NvFlash. is a standard procedure for a lot of GPU.. can i use this method also with 640m LE?

    thanks in advance.

    No you cant.

If your laptop came with windows 8 there is no way curently to do this modd. (its beeing worked on)
Since the windows 8 laptops came with a newer bios installed.
How ever if you bought your laptop with windows 7 installed and your bios is the 142 or 143 bios you can do the modd but only the modd thats on this page.
Nibitor wont work. Athleast not up to the speeds in this thread.
And as far as i know the nibitor program dont work on the nvidia 600 gpus.

Hi everyone. Sorry if this has been answered somewhere but I've had a look through and couldn't quite work it out.

I'm looking at purchasing an older Sony Vaio SVS13 model, the SVS13116FGB which comes preinstalled with Windows 7. I'm just wanting to double check, would this mod be compatible with that model? It is definitely GT640M LE equipped but as most users here seem to be using 15 inch versions I wanted to confirm compatibility before purchasing.

Was otherwise looking at a 15 inch Dell Inspiron with a Radeon HD8730M but I'd much prefer a 13 inch laptop. It looks like with this mod the Sony would have even better GPU performance. Thanks in advance.

When you say it's being worked on, how is that coming? Is it something that's being put together? or is there some kind of block people are trying to get around?

yes. uefi firmware is now signed and you can not longer simply flash any (especially modified) version you want.

I see. Thanks for explaining. So is this something we expect to be able to get around at some point? Or are we basically stuck with the current bios?

Anyone know any US e-tailors with the older model (non-signed UEFI firmware) in stock? I'd buy the win8 version in a heartbeat if I knew I could apply this modded bios.

So, now that it seems that we native Win8 users are also getting a bios mod soon, I`d like to know experiences from those who have used it for a longer time. Has it worked OK for you? Do you have encountered heating or any other problems? Which OC have you used? Please share your experiences is it safe to use.

I've been using the 800/900 for about 4 months now. It's rock-solid, even through the update to Win 8. Temperature increases are about 3 to 4 degrees over stock.

Been using the 1000/1000 MOD for almost 7 months now. No issues. :)

    Hi there,

I recently ordered my Windows 8 S13P with the 2GB GT 640m LE. Very curious about the bios mod.

Is there a considerable difference? The only game I play is Star Wars: The Old Republic and Civ5

Probably won't make much of a difference for those games, but for newer and more demanding titles it's the difference between playing on low vs. high settings.

Has anyone actually installed the mod on their S13/15 with Windows 8 yet?

If so, was the process easy or difficult to accomplish?

I think most of us don't have access to the DL file because we don't have enough posts. I'll be testing it as soon as I can though.

    Hi,

I am new to this thread. I am looking for a hacked BIOS for a Sony S Series VAIO VPCSA2GGX laptop which will allow me to access advanced SATA settings and enable SATA III.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    KV

^ wrong thread. look at the SA/SB BIOS Hack thread.

by the way, you can't reenable SATA III on the SA/SB series.
