    No need for that. :)

Just MAKE SURE it is compatible with your laptop.

Yes no worries, I'm following you since the first month with my windows 7 sony vaio s. THIS BIOS IS ONLY FOR THE OLD MODELE THAT CAME WITH WINDOWS 7!!!

Since I've upgraded to windows 8, I was worried it would not work as it should but I'm pretty sure it's still good.

Hoping someone can help me out. In looking through this thread it seems the BIOS mod will NOT work with Windows 8, but NV Inspector OC WILL work? Considering picking up a second hand S15, just cant seem to find similar performance profiles and size on newer models

I just cannot get the bios R0143C5 to work. It will always use ~20% cpu - the reason is ACPI.sys. Whatever I do with the sony applications, drivers and reinstalls the cpu usage stays.
Is no-one else having this problem?

Also, would be great if someone could upload the R0140C5 bios for me to test.

Well, for me, it seems the gpu can't go higher then 570mhz.. even if I flashed the custom bios... Unfortunately, Amal77 doesn't have this laptop anymore so he can't help us :p

Have you tried the "Priority to ventilation" and "Prefer maximum performance" steps?

    hello Amal
i have sony notebook model SVS15116GAB
    my bios version is R0142C5

the bios version is diffrent by one number .
does that mean my notebook is not applicable for the OC?
also i format my laptop from time to time between windows 7 and 8 so will this reset the OC?

    Thanks

Is the R0143C5 worth installing? Can't find the change log anywhere.. Currently have the R0142C5 on the SVS13A1.

I'd only like to share my excitement after downloading the Evil Within demo and finding out that my Vaio (i5, 640M LE) still rocks very playable framerate whether it is at 1280x720 or even 1600x900. Of course, that is only after overclocked to stable 950 core and 1000 memory settings.
    Cheers!

I'm currently playing Far Cry 4 in 1600x900 Medium or 1280x720 High (depending whether I am on laptop screen or projector ;))...

Just saying, that this thing oc'd can still move mountains!

Or do you have moded R1021C8?

It seems that we can clock up to baseclockoffset limit (+135) with nvidiainspector.
That is why i've asked for a modified bios R1021C8 for my svs13a2x9r.

To be fair +135mhz isn't bad, all I can manage currently without throttling in balanced usage scenarios (100% cpu & gpu) is +200mhz

Used to be able to get a lot more (950mhz) when it was new, and no visible dust buildup inside, so not sure what's going on there

I always just limit my cpu up to 99% so there is no throttling even under the heavy load.

It looks like Nvidia Inspector is still working as before in Windows 10, just not via its GUI. Presumably it's just something stupid like the developer having hard coded a max driver version to display the core clock bar for.

I'm using the following shortcut to get 900mhz core clock:

    nvidiaInspector.exe -forcepstate:0,0 -setGpuClock:0,1,900

I'm using BIOS R0143C5 (can't remember if modded), windows 7 model, driver 353.62, inspector 1.9.7.3

So, you're saying this works for you? I use the shortcut as well (950 for the core plus 100 as the memory clock offset), but it doesn't work. Win 10 upgrade, the same Nvidia drivers.

I just updated my BIOS to R0143C5 as the GPU BIOS version had "MODDED" next to it unlike yours (as I had the modded 142 BIOS installed apparently), but didn't help. Can't change the GPU clock still. Pretty frustrating. Did you install the drivers manually or through the Windows Update?

I've tried installing the old 332.XX drivers I used on the Windows 7, but still no go. I don't know if I can force install some modded drivers now, that seems to be the last thing to try.

Do you remember perhaps if you got your BIOS from here or from the tech inferno?

While installing nvidia drivers, I noticed my SSD ran pretty slow - unpacking the drivers took like at least 30 seconds. That was the final straw - reverted back to Win 7 for a while (at least until the OC problem is fixed so I can risk a fresh install).

Did you notice any change in battery life? To me it seems that Windows 10 bleeds my battery much faster..

I tried the nvidia inspector workaround on Windows 10 and it didn't work for me. Max I could achieve was about 700MHz. I went back to Windows 7 and works fine. I previously installed the Windows 7 BIOS mod. My only issue now is the GPU is being throttled more often now. I set my maximum processor state to 99% as previously mentioned.. any ideas?

I've tried 5 times unfortunately had to go back to 8.1 due to several issues I was facing. First of all no matter which workaround I used I still had massive problems with touchpad. Sometimes it worked after resuming from sleep and sometimes it didn't work at all. Also it would randomly stop working even if I didn't put my laptop to sleep and the only way to make it work again was to restart my laptop. On top of that the overclocking didn't work for me at all. Also the boot up time was much longer than it used to be on 8.1 with culprit being the video drivers for Intel 4000. Again, I tried different drivers but none of them fixed the problem. The last straw was when I realised that I can't change the colour of the Explorer windows which is white as a default. I cannot understand such step back in terms of personalisation and it was really annoying me especially at night.

    I hope that helps.

May I ask anyway to bypass thermal throttle or what caused my GPU to throttle?
I mean the GPU is a (little) beast but when it hit 70C or 95% load it throttle the core down to 1xx mhz which makes it unable to play any games.
Using throttlestop to disable turbo boost helped me a on some games but still not enough.
    What I have played:
    S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series
    MGS Ground Zeroes
    COD AW
Bioshock Infinite << It was so smooth on 1920x1080 with medium setting until the GPU hits 70ish

I even can't play Red Alert 3 without my AC on and a normal size fan.

    I'm using S13P i7-3520M / 8GB / 1600x900 one
overclocked to 850+900mhz if i'm not mistaken.

I love this laptop so much and I still don't want to replace it anytime soon.

I struggled with getting my SVS15 back to my old 1000/950 setup today, and it seems the culprit was Nvidia Inspector that wasn't applying the forcepstate. Simply renaming/deleting the "nvidiaInspector.exe.config" file seems to fix this and the shortcut will let you oc beyond the +135 offset that's otherwise the limit.

Personally I only game with this laptop rarely when I'm on the go maybe once or twice a year so I've kept coming back to this thread so many times after something has borked my oc settings. :D In any case my SVS15 is still going strong with 1000/950 clocks with up to date W10 install and newest Nvidia drivers, so if you're having issues, there's probably a solution beyond just reverting to an older OS. I do still have the old bios mod from W7 days and it defaults the memory to 950 even though core doesn't budge without NVinspector.

OMFG!!! This is incredible!!! I have just spent 5h today trying to make OC work on W10 and you're telling me that there is possibly a solution?

Could you please help me me and explain exactly what you mean by "renaming/deleting the nvidiainspector.exe.config file"? Is it just editing the path in the shortcut?

If this really works, I owe you a nice cold beer

If you have downloaded NVInspector 1.9.7.3 from Guru3D, the install folder should have a file called "nvidiaInspector.exe.config". Either delete it or rename it to whatever so NVInspector doesn't recognize it. I always prefer renaming files since you never know if you end up needing that file after all.

As far as I can tell it has something to do with .Net framework support, and specifically a W10 update to .Net that caused the mismatch between recognized .Net version and what the config file says is supported (v.4.0). Assumedly it should work as long as the version number matches, but NVInspector doesn't seem to actually need that file to function so you can delete it, or alternatively rename it to something else.

Hope it works for you! :)

Thanks mate!!! It works!!! It really fffing' works!!!

That's it guys! Pantsu found a solution! That concludes it for me. Windows 10 works on my SVS1511C5E as good as Windows 8.1 used to!!! It looks like it was worth waiting for W10 to get the fall update and Synaptics drivers fix :)

If anybody still has issues with getting Control Centre and function buttons to work give me a shout. Also if you want to fix any of the following W10 niggles, let me know:

    1. Remove Intel context menu;
    2. Custom recycle bin icon not refreshing;
    3. Remove OneDrive from Explorer menus;
    4. Activate Windows Photo Viewer;
    5. Fix Windows 10 DPI (blurry menus); and
    6. Remove shortcut arrows.

Thanks for all your help everyone! This is truly amazing community for a great laptop!

These are great news, the lack of overclocking is the reason i haven´t migrate to windows 10 yet. can anyone confirms that everything works fine and games have the same performance as before?
i am afraid because my laptop originally came with windows 7 and non uefi BIOS, which i have switch to the overclocked version, i dont know how can this affect to migration and performance.
    thank you!

    Hey guys.

after all these posts, i have 2 questions: is it possible to install windows 10 x64 with the oc bios?

is it possible to return to stock bios? (currently not playing any games)

    Hi,
I finally decided to update to windows 10 and everything was great... except for the graphics, it is all a big mess.

I kept the mod bios at 935Mhz when i updated and now it seems not to work. the drivers are ok, i can choose to use the discrete graphic card but someway it is not working. benchamarks have ludicrously low scores (400 in the 3dmark) and other benchmarks (novabench) seems not recognise the card, with very low scores too.
i have tried the nvidia inspector and it says 935Mhz as GPU and default clock, and memory at 1000Mhz, but it is unreal, everything seems fine in the computer, but it doesnt work at all.
can you think of any solution for this? i am thinking about installing the windows 8 BIOS from the vaio support web, how risky is that? i get pretty scary, but soon it will be my only choice.

thanks, i hope this thread is still somewhat active

I have finally update BIOS and frequency was restored to stock, now i can use only the nvidia inspector method and it works much better than before, but still far from the windows 7 performance.

my 3d mark 11 score is about 1700 and it was about 2500 with modded bios, have you tried? which is your score in windows 8/10??
