first off, I want to say THANKS to svl7 and Amal77! Turns out my ddr3 memory cant take anymore than 950-960mhz while my core can easily take 1000mhz. Amal, wondering if you would be a champ and cook me up a 1000/950 bios or possibly explain to me how I might do that myself, thanks!

    Haven't actually tested it yet.
By right it should be fine.

Well, maybe you can download the 900MHz MOD since a lot of people is using it, and it seems stable and fast.

Once downloaded, you extract/Unzip it into a folder.
Then, run the file called InsydeFlash.
It will then flash your BIOS.
While it is flashing, PLEASE DO NOT INTERRUPT OR DO ANYTHING, also make sure you have enough battery(the flash process will take about 10 seconds).
Once finished, it will automatically close the flashing program window.
Wait for a bit just in case, then Restart your laptop.

To check whether you successfully flashed your BIOS, download a program called GPU-Z.
Run the program, and check whether your GPU Clock and Default Clock is 900MHz.
If so, means you have successfully Flashed the BIOS MOD.
You can exit/close the GPU-Z after that, do not let it run on idle if you don't need it.

Then you may follow the additional information from the first page.
If you still have any questions after that, just post it again in this thread. I'm sure someone will be able to help you after that.

Maybe you should have your father do it then. I don't recommend that just anybody goes through with a modded BIOS flash. No offense intended or anything. Your warranty is void if you mess it up and you brick your laptop and Sony won't help you if such an event were to occur.

I'm not to sure about that. If flashing goes wrong the laptop becomes unusable and you probably have to send it so Sony. Officially flashing a bios mod means that the warranty is void, but I THINK Sony can't check if you flashed a unofficial bios. When they receive the unusable notebook they will probably just replace the bios chip on the motherboard or flash it using a recovery flash device. I personally don't think they will (or maybe they can't) check what did cause the bios corruption.

I think thats my issue as well. However I dont know if my core can take that much, would it be possible to make a 900/900 or something? :)

Hi guys, I'm really tempted to oc mine but kind of worried of burning my video card. I'm using my s15 mostly for video editing and the graphic oc will definitely help. The thing is my render time usually runs about 4 hours. I'm pretty much a noob when it comes to PC gaming and over clocking. Do you think overclocking will have adverse effects if I use the laptop a lot for rendering? Thanks.

I don't think overclocking the video card helps video editing. It's in the 3D games/software where it makes a difference.

    Hello everybody,

i'll buy the Sony Vaio S15 and i want to know if the temp are still good with the 900/1000 bios mod?
If someone with a S15 can tell me if the temps are still 'cool' after one hour of intensive game! i'll appreciate!

    thanks !

Hi all, I have artifacts (color spots) after applying the mod, no matter it is 835/1000 or 900/1000. Especially when I play Assassins, there are texture errors. Any idea?

    Which Assassins?
Does it happen all the time?

Howbout other games, benchmark tools, and stress tools?

Maybe someone with the game can comment, coz I don't have the game.

Thanks very much for the reply. I am playing Assassins: Brother Hood. I think another people also mentioned about color artifacts, it might due to memory OC. I'm not sure. Anyway, thanks a lot for this genius mod!!

Just noticed that I already have a Counter Strike Source in my Steam account. :p

I have just did the Video Stress Test on 950c/1000m MOD, and I cannot see any artifact at all.
Maybe it's because of the current bug, which only shows the ground when doing the test?

OK thanks. Yeah, I think I'll hold off OC for now. Vegas Pro does use GPU for preview and rendering but I'm not sure how much it uses the 3D processing part.

While doing nothing much, I decided to try and test some GPU rendering by using Maya 2013 with the FurryBall 3.0 plugin and benchmark.

Did a test on both STOCK and MOD.

    On STOCK (500/900) = 16.522 seconds
    [IMG]

    On BIOS MOD (1000/1100) = 9.464 seconds

Hey, I found a strange thing, have anyone meet it? In a quiet environment, make the lap sleep (rapid wake with hdd), and then wake it up, I notice the voice of the fan become noisier, and won’t go back to silent, even though don’t do anything (temp is normal). Restart cannot help, only if after shut down and open, can it backs to normal. It is the same when choose hd4000 or high performance NV in panel. Any idea?

    Hi Novokaine

I'm looking to jump on the 900Mhz mod (thanks Amal and SV7 for the work you've done!).

Anyway, I noticed we had identical model codes but I wasn't able to find the BIOS online (I wanted to run a checksum against Amal's first post).

Naturally, I'm a little worried about bricking my laptop so I just wanted to clarify if everything was okay for you.

Also - I'm opening this up to everyone, does anyone know where I can find the BIOS for the UK version of SVS13A1C5E so that I can run a checksum?

    Cheers
    Abrar

Hello Everyone I need a little bit of help.

    I own a svs1511bfxb and used svl's 735MHZ MOD.
My problem right now is that when idling the clock will never go down. According to Afterburner it even remains up in Stamina Mode. (GPU-Z shows the same)
What is strange though is that when running Kombuster it will move itself freely and sometimes even idle back to around 125mhz. As soon as I close Kombuster it's up at 735 again though.
This is seriously impacting my battery life.
    Please help me.

My second question would be where to find the latest non Beta drivers for NCP. Nvidia doesn't seem to have them on their website. I only find 2 Beta versions.

Hello everyone I'm very interest to oc the GT640 LE but I have some problem about the BIOS update file.

I have plane to buy Vaio S13P SVS13A15GHB at the mid-August. So I went to the suport site BIOS Update version R0142C5 : Download : Sony Asia Pacific Yes, It's Asia Pacific zone because I live in there.
I check the MD5 checksum with BIOS update file that on the first topic and the result is different MD5. Because of this Sony eSupport - SVS13A15GDB - Drivers & Software dosn't has my model in list, so I'm not sure about that it can be compatible or not?

    Thank you very much :)

Hi guys. I just purchased my laptop in Norway, and i'm using the 900 mod, which is working great. Getting about 2100 in 3dmark with the cheapest i5. Thanks for this. My question is, and im sorry if this has been answered before, does this limit upgrades, as in future driversupport etc? Can i still download and use the latest nvidia drivers?
Also, ive ordered a samsung 830 128GB drive and a 4gb ram stick. Seeing as this mods the bios, i can still format normally, and use my computer like i usually would?
    Thanks for responses :)

    Still not stable on 1100MHz.
    Only stable on 1050MHz.

Might need to increase a lil bit more voltage there.

Already checked, they are the same.
    Should be fine.

Yes, sometimes MSI AB also got bug, clock maintain at full.

Just be sure you close both(MSI AB & GPU-Z), or open both.

By right should be the same.
Try download the BIOS and compare the checksum.

No, it does not limit your upgrade.
You can still use nvidia drivers as per usual.

Yes, you can use your laptop as per normal, it won't affect other things.

For 1100mhz we need around 1.025-1.05v. Perhaps you need little less, for your good chip, but majority of us dont have as good as this.
On 28nm overclocking the mhz vs voltages scaleing is pretty much linear. for example:
I need 0.925v for 975mhz stable. That means i probably need 1.025v for 1075mhz stable. and 1.125v for 1175mhz stable.
For keeping my GPU temps on par with CPU i would probably settle with 1.05v 1100mhz. :) My S15 should be able to keep temps under 85C at this clock/voltage.

Really nice work guys. Just ordered my s13p and can't wait to start modding it when it arrives.

Quick question, with the higher clocks and also the higher clocks plus higher voltage, how much does it affect the fan noise?

I have an m14x r2 at the moment and the noise is unbearable. I use the custom bios on that too BTW :)

Well, on demanding games, the fan will blow on max rpm anyway. Just temperatures will be a little higher.

I'm not shure but with bios modding is it possible to adjust the CPU clocks as well? and BTW thanks to you guys making this mod it makes the S series all that much more epic!

Cant wait to get home and flash my bios, well probably run 3dmark first but... sweet stuff!

Yup, that could possibly be true.

But then, i've just tried it on 0.975v, and it doesn't seems stable at all.
Not sure whether it reached its limit already, or could be something wrong with the voltage table modified.

Just to say it again, our GPU's DDR3 is crap!
It REALLY bottlenecked our GPU by a noticable results.

Heard that the new Acer M5 is fitted with a GT640M LE with GDDR5. Must be fun MODDING it. ^_^

Like what Supranium said, the fan will probably spin max as usual.
Not sure how noisy is the M14x R2, so I can't really compare, but IMHO, it is still bearable.
You won't notice it much when playing games, especially if you increase the volume to the max.

Temperature will definitely increase depending on which MOD, obviously.

From the test I did, I can say that the temp increased from 4 to 7 celcius compared to stock, ranging from the lowest to the highest MOD without voltage increase.
Haven't finish testing it with OV yet, but logically it will increase by a bit more.

But then again, a 900MHz to 1000MHz MOD is more than good enough for normal daily use, if you ask me.
Higher than that, we will start seeing the GPU bottlenecked by its slow DDR3. :(

If by unlocking the advanced features, probably.
But this MOD only made changes on the VBIOS, nothing more.

But if you're looking at downclocking the CPU, you may use the power management from the power options to limit its maximum speed, so that you will have a much better temperature, and the possibility of zero throttling to happen.

Thanks for the replies guys. Can't wait to see what I can squeeze out of my s13 when it arrives.

I bought the i5 m14x thinking it would be a lot quieter than the i7 version but it still sounds like a jet engine when playing BF3. I can actually hear it across my house. There is no way I could use it in the lounge with the mrs, she would implant the TV remote in my head for spoiling her soaps!

Order the 256gb (and there is also possible to order 8gb ram in one chip for the s15) works like a charm here. Just saying, you will regret buying only 128gb... (I'm from Norway too, and I paid about 1600kr for my 256gb ;) )

why is it so low? is it because of the memory is at 900mhz?

what am i missing...??? i am running the 950 mhz mod, and when i run 3dmark 11 I only get p1527. and gpu-z seems that the gpu was only running at 500ish mhz even though on the graphics card tab it registers as 950.

I had priority to ventilization and speed mode switched.

    thanks in advance

    same issue as person above

    From the first page guys.

    "ADDITIONAL INFO 1 :
You may experience that when you run benchmark, games, or any application, but your Clock seems to be not at par as the Base clock.

    Please follow the instructions
Nvidia Control Panel -> Manage 3d Settings -> Select the app you want to run full clock -> Select high performance nvidia processor on the option 2 -> Select Prefer Maximum Performance for the Power management mode.

    OR

Nvidia Control Panel -> Manage 3d Settings -> Global Settings -> Select Prefer Maximum Performance for the Power management mode.
Now, all the app should run in Maximum clock.

You should be able to run at the full clock afterwards."

No changes on the BIOS Menu, all still stock.
Only made changes on the VBIOS of the GT640M LE.
Our VBIOS is integrated with the BIOS, that is why we need to flash the whole BIOS.
