I went through the verification process, but procrastinated the proof-of-purchase step...I received an email saying my credit card had been charged (without scanning my receipt and sending it in) Computer was purchased in August from CompUSA.
This computer is really nice. I'm using it for AVCHD video editing in Pinnacle Studio Ultimate 14 and it renders super fast. I'm outputting it to my Sharp DT-510 projecting a 130" image. SWEET!

Anyone know the requirements for the free upgrade? I just bought a new VGN-AW180Y/Q from costco for $1,800.00 and change 2 weeks ago advertised with free windows 7 upgrade, before buying I checked with sony online support, and they told me something like ANY PC bought after June something till somewhere around Jan. or Feb 2010 will get the free upgrade, and have to check the site on or after Oct.22. So I waited, and now they tell me that my model is 10/2008 model and don't get free upgrade! I stated to them is 2 weeks old (NEW in Sealed box), and was advertised with the free upgrade, but they still don't care and will not give the free upgrade, which don't make any sense. My wife bought a toshiba in July that was an older model, and she has no problems with them with the free upgrade. Looks like sony will lose more then the cost of upgrade when I return this and they will have to resell as refurb. plus the few hundred extra I paid for extended warranty.Anyone else having same problem with them?

NEW...SEALED IN BOX does not equal USED-OPEN BOX...does not equal REFURB

(Do you understand the differences between NEW, USED, OPEN-BOX, and REFURB?)

Costco has one the best, if not THE best, return policies in retail. TAKE THE DAMN THING BACK! End of problem.

Got my Win 7 Upgrade package in the U.S. mail yesterday. (I live in Orange, CA, packaged shipped from Ontario, CA).

I purchased my Z750 from MicroCenter in Sept. Sent the info for updrade right away. Got an e-mail notice that all was approved a few weeks ago. And now it's here.

The package came with two disc's. It came with Win 7 Pro Upgrade and Sony Companion DVD (drivers and software).

Im in Orange,CA too did mine back in July, never got mine yet. Question. Do you have to do a bios updated for the windows 7 installation to work? I dont get why there is 2 cds. I guess one must be vanilla windows 7 and the other is the drivers you have to install after?

MrPeteH please share your experience with us :) Is it a upgrade Windows 7 Home Premium DVD or stand alone DVD? Are the drivers automatic installed when you inserted the drivers DVD? Please share how did you proceed!

Not sure why or how I received mine so fast. Just glad I did.

The Windows 7 Pro Upgrade DVD contains the Win 7 upgrade only. The companion DVD has the drivers and software that is needed to complete the upgrade process.

As for installation, the Upgrade DVD did allow me to do a clean (full) install. There is a new Product Key that came with Win 7 Upgrade. This worked for the clean (full) install. I tried this first. After the install there were no traces of Sony software. Just a clean Vista 7 install. Later, I installed the Companion DVD, this added mich of the Sony software, MINUS the crapware. This was nice. However, not all functionality came back. Some F-keys not working, video card(s) drivers not installed, wi-fi drivers not installed, etc.

Later, I restored my Z750 back to factory specs (with Vista Bus). I then ran the Win 7 Upgrade again, but this time tried the actual upgrade. Then I ran the Companion DVD. It appears this was a very smooth upgrade/install. All functionality came back. Of course so did all of the crapware. But I have to say, the upgrade worked very well. I have Win 7 Ult on my main home PC and this upgrade works just as smooth (so far).

I'm sure later I will download all of the drivers from Sony Support and try a full clean install again. Only problem is, I noticed Sony Support does not have video drivers.

No bios update was needed. The DVD's did all of the work during install.

My Z had Vista Business 64-bit, so the upgrade DVD is Windowns 7 Professional 64-bit. The Win 7 Updgade DVD installed just like any other Windows Operating DVD does, except that it appears to "remove" anything that might conflct with the Win 7 Upgrade. The Companion DVD runs all drivers automatically (there's no choosing). This appears to put back anything that was not compatable during the upgrade.

Also, I just completed the upgrade. As of right now it appears to be okay. Hopefully it continues like this.

thats odd how there is no bios update because I thought your bios has to support slic 2.1 in order to use their version. maybe they are giving out unique cd keys to each person instead of using the oem slp

It could be that the bios update is built in to one of the DVD's. I know that I did not update the bios manually.

Mate I take it that you had to enter the KEY?
    And online activation?

Would you mind checking what kind of key you were given... here an online tool http://d-fault.nl/pidcheck/

would be interesting to see if retail or MAK

When did you file your upgrade request? And did you first receive confirmation from them? Perhaps we can use this information to piece out a rough timeline from submission to receiving the upgrade disk.

    Thanks a lot!

I sent my request in on September 12th and still have not received it or any shipping email.
I have a VGN-Z610Y/B, I'm guessing it really depends on the computer and if they have drivers readily available.

You are barking up the wrong tree. Don't call SONY, call Costco.com Customer Service and they will sort it out for you. You will get the free upgrade.

I just got mine today; I first submitted my application the day after I got my laptop (July 17) but I sent the proof of purchase from the wrong email, so I then resent it about a month ago. And now I'm installing it! I've been running the 90day Enterprise trial for 45 days now on my FW465 and it's run fantastically.

Did anyone else not receive the e-mail stating your proof of purchase had been validated? Some people did recieve that e-mail.

I submitted my proof or purchase on October 13th. After, submitting it, I received this e-mail. It is a duplicate of the e-mail I received after submitting my information on the Sony website.

I did receive the e-mail stating:

    "Dear Kevin Sxxxxxx,

    Thank you for your order.
This is a confirmation of your recent Microsoft Windows 7 Upgrade order."

Never got the validation, but was asked to send a second "Proof of Purchase" document with date of purchase on it. That was after I took the trouble to contact them, asking where the validation was. I didn't pop that in the mail till 10-04-09. Never got a validation for that either.

Edit: Forgot to mention, the Software just arrived today.

While we are talking about order status-

    Mine show "Pending for fulfillment"

Anybody have any clue what this means?

Is it needing something additional to what I sent in?

Or is it pending like "Awaiting Shipping"

Be careful about doing a clean install... make sure that the disc your receive includes the preloaded Sony apps (if you are interested in preserving them).

I'm awaiting my Win7 upgrade disc, but before considering a clean install, I want to make sure that I can preserve the Splashtop boot option on my Vaio VGN-NW125J.

On Friday, September 25, 2009 12:41 AM, I emailed: [email protected]

Got reply on Friday, September 25, 2009 2:40:31 PM

They never replied about the documentation I supplied after that. I reordered the software on October 4th, and sent the same documentation at that time. Again, no confirmation.

Order #SONY_US0343431 shows "Pending for Fulfillment"

Order #SONY_US0077195 shows a black bar through the Order Status box.

For in place upgrade, do you need input a key? I still haven't received my upgrade package but my friend received his and he and I bought the same computer.

I was thinking of asking him to borrow his discs and just doing an in place upgrade if it doesn't need a key.

    Hate waiting for this thing.....

No you can't lie to them. They'll probably simply refuse.

You'll need a valid Proof-of-purchase to get it at lower price (or free).
