    I never got a shipping confirmation, it just showed up in my mailbox on Monday. But at that point, it didn't matter to me since I had installed W7 ultimate 64bit about a month earlier.

    For those of you who have received Win 7 upgrade kits, can any one clarify the following:
    a) Was it possible to do a clean install by booting from the install media or you had to "upgrade" from within Vista?
    b) Whether you had to input the Win7 product key and activate it over internet or phone or it was activated automatically?
    c) For advanced users... whether the upgrade DVD upgrades the SLIC to ver. 2.1 or it remains ver.2?

    Hey there! When you did a clean installed; did you get any OEM license branding? I just wanted to make sure that a clean installation also come with OEM branding or not?

    I ordered the kit and emailed my proof of purchase about three weeks ago. I did not receive any confirmation whatsoever and I have not received anything in the mail. I didn't have to pay for shipping either. So I have no idea what is going on... !

    originaly on mine was 32 so they will ship you 32 no both
    so its sit totally
    guys just install Win7 Ult AIO activated and that is best
    because even if u pay you wont get what you really want !!
    really this make me so sick how they making cheeky selfish terms and conditions !
    ITS REALLY NOT WORTH IT !!!!!

    Just got mine last night. Did a clean install using a copy of Windows 7 Home Premium downloaded from MSDN. Successfully activated it using the CD Key supplied by Sony. I think this is the best way to avoid any sort of OEM branding.

    I didn't see any OEM branding in mine except for the installer. I have a FW490.

    My DVD was defective as it wobbled and vibrated horribly. I took it out of my BD-RE drive and put it an external USB DVD drive.

    I did a clean install but couldn't boot with the CD. Instead I launched it from within Vista. I think it's the best of both worlds - preserves your data yet allows a clean install. Your old Windows folder, C:\Users, Program Files and Program Files (x86) were in there. I copied it to a BD-R for archiving just in case I needed anything and then blew it away.

    Then I ran the companion DVD which installed drivers and the OEM software. Surprisingly no crapware was installed, just the drivers and AV mode. In fact I had to install a few other things like WinDVD BD for VAIO and SmartWi connection utility.

    To be honest with you I prefer OEM branding. I like the Sony logo :D But not all those crapware. I'm using currently Windows 7 Professional with all the function key working and no crapware. Now all I need is OEM branding. I wasn't at home yesterday. So missed a package came from UPS. I'll call them tomorrow :D

    I actually made a bootable USB key with Windows 7 on it (see this http://kmwoley.com/blog/?p=345) because I was helping other people install Windows 7 and it's easier to carry a USB key around than a DVD.

    And yes, I did a clean install, wiped everything on the hard drive and reinstall from fresh.

    Interesting.... I just got another copy of Windows 7 from Sony. Same order ID, different CD KEY. Anyone receive an extra copy from Sony as well?

    I got my order today but I only received the Companion disc and I should've received both because I did everything that needed to be done. What exactly does that mean for me if all I received was the companion disc???

    First you should ask from your 3rd party store.

    And check you country/region's Sony website for Win7 upgrade information.

    (I'm not sure if they'll have it or not)

    i just got my discs today. no mention of ever getting it shipped or confirmation or anything it just showed up. Im in CA and it shipped CA so everyone waiting I think you guys will get it in a week or so. dont worry about confirmation and stuff it will just show up

    About a month ago I purchased a VGN-FW480J/T. I only installed one program that I use and only have a dozen files which I've already backed up.

    My question is If I perform a clean install(what I prefer) with the upgrade kit that I expect any day now, what functionality may/will I lose. And what programs that sony originally installed will I lose??

    Then regarding the companion disk....are you able to pick and choose programs/utilities you want installed?? I do want some of the items...but would love it if I didnt have to install everything..and then remove/delete all the "trials" or useless items.

    Also, after a clean Install will the hidden partition still be on the laptop?

    On the companion disk that I just received you cannot select items. It installs everything and there is nothing I could do to change that :mad: .
    I performed an upgrade to test Win 7 before going for a clean install.
    Before using the companion disk I tried to download and install the drivers on the Sony website: I always got the message that this program is for Vista! :eek:
    So far I am not at all impressed by Win 7 and by Sony handling of this Win 7 offer.

    Well my order status is "pending for fullfillment" But I don't have a black bar yet. I hope I get it soon, I submitted more than a month ago, and Win7 has been out for a couple of weeks now. I hope this upgrade goes more smoothly than my other win7 upgrade. I somehow managed to brick my dad's dell desktop (e520) during the upgrade. It got to 92% and then the BIOS stopped recognizing the hard drive. And I can't seem to fix it. Here's hoping for better luck this time around. Anybody gotten any clarification on whether or not we can do a clean install from this disk?

    Uhh I got 4 upgrade + compasion cd for some reason o_O I remember i did apply 4 time on the window 7 upgrade by accident but i only show the proof of purchase 1 time lol =$ , When i call mentors what up they were like just keep it lol o_O. Weird , I dont want them mailing back 3 weeks later asking for like 500 dollar or something lol T__T

    I got mine mailed to me from Japan via DHL. I bought my lappy in Australia, so it took about a week.

    Is it possible to get Vaio Recovery Centre back after you upgrade?

    This is so funny. I e-mailed and also sent in hardcopies of my proof or purchase. I got by upgrade dvd's a week ago. Now I got another email from them saying they have sent me my disks with a different pair of tracking numbers. So now I got 2 copies that I don't need since I was able to get W7 Ultimate 64 bit from a friend...
