    Hello.
I own a SONY VAIO SE for a short time now and im considering to switch to the unofficial drivers. Since its brand new i dont want to do any harm to the system already.

So i have a few questions. Since the Manual couldn't answer all my questions. I am hoping someone here would be kind to help me.

    1) I would like to know if someone could explain a bit more to me what DSE does. Although ive read the Manual i havent understood yet how this thing really works.
I know it enables the installation of unsigned drivers but i would like to know how this thnig works in matters of what it does to the system.

    2) The Manual says that DSE has to be ran only once. Does that mean you can uninstall it afterwards?
It says that DSE is supposed to eliminate the slowdown of the system. Wouldnt the slowdowns reoccur if you run it only once / if you would uninstall it?
Are you supposed to enable / install it again for everytime you upgrade the drivers?

    3) Why do need to swipe the system of old drivers? Couldnt you just install it over the old drivers? What if you overlook some remains of the old drivers

    4) If somethings not working right can you just install the oem drivers? How would you do that? Are you supposed to also swipe the system of the old drivers?

    5) How high are the chances really to damage something? And if so what would be damaged?

I really hope somebody will help me. Thanks in advance.

12.3 is suppose to work for Switchable Graphics right?

Just tried it and no video playback.
    Sony SE VPCSE190X
    Windows 7 64bit

I tried reinstall with YUC in between a few times.

    redroom,

You sound like you want to be a modder yourself :) Are you from spain?

    1. DSE is performing simple task - adds a record to {current} system, a string that tells windows not to block non-certified drivers.

    2. Uninstallation - FAQ is covering it, idk how did you read.

"Is supposed to eliminate the slowdown of the system" - in comparison to other "solutions", like RDP. DSE is not affecting performance of the system in any way.

    3. To make new drivers work in full power with ITS settings, not combined with old driver.
Especially cleaning is mandatory for CCC1 drivers.

    4. Yep, just run YUC again to clean up current set and you can freely install any others, including OEM.

    5. Damage is hypothetical, but i always face such people everyday spamming me that I(!) "broke" their systems and they cant install other drivers etc.

In 99% This happens because people DONT read or simply skip some steps as they think they are not important. Well, if certain steps are mentioned and people ignore it, any kind of sh*t may happen. Again, such people usually like to use their "favorite and superfast" cleaners instead of "YUC" or "Manual Cleaning Procedures" described in FAQ that likely to result failure in any way. Then they run to me and start to cry about their system "not loading".

IF YOU will read FAQ carefully and perform all steps - you ll be just fine.

    But w/o faq, typical pattern for is: Download UnifL-->Launch UnifL-->Install DSE(if never installed)-->Run YUC(if drivers are installed)-->Customize UnifL(according to your needs)-->Install UnifL.

For now i cant imagine how to make it simplier, its already very simple.

    Cheers,

    L.

Tank you very much for your response.
No i dont want to be a modder, but thanks for asking.
I try to avoid technical stuff most of the time, but sometimes in a few cases (like this one) there seems to be no way around, because i dont want to mess up my system.
    Im also not from spain.

As i mentioned i knew what DSE is for and that you have to run it only once.
The thing that im interested in is: if you would remove it AFTER you installed a version of the UnifL driver, wouldnt the slowdowns reoccur? If not, i would have to install it everytime i would upgrade a version of the UnifL driver and then uninstall it again after i installed the driver, right?

What i also forgot to ask was: if you have already running a version of the UnifL driver and you just want to upgrade it, do you also have to run YUC and clean the remains of the driver even it was already an UnifL driver?

    Thanks again, greetings, redroom.

    PS:
Since i can talk to the maker of these drivers: do you create your drivers in a similiar way explained in this thread?:
How to mod CURRENT Cat.-Versions (10.7 or newer) for WinXP
If so, what install file from amd do you use? In example: what installer from AMD did you use for the 11.2 version?

If you would remove it AFTER you installed UnifL. driver simply wont load - will give you error. DSE should stay all times.

DSE is installed once. Only once in system. There cant be ANY slowdowns... at all. I mean it. I dont know how to explain you that.

    About upgrading:
Well, you could try installing it on top but there is no guarantee that newer set will use its own settings instead of combined with prev set.

Never read this article, yet its interesting and for sure useful for beginners.

I use official releases, yes, combination of configs. Lots of preparations. In other words, its pretty long and hard job with high risk of mistake.

Yet, latest versions are showing great results. The Only problem people usually face is to install UnifL. :)

    What am I doing wrong?

    Sony VPCSE190X running Windows 7 x64

I uninstalled everything AMD, run YUCC verifies that nothing is installed, restart.
    Install 12.2 U5
Again no video players work, nor does youtube etc.

I have tired other versions from leshcat too, and they never work.
I am near positive I have followed all the instructions.
Would someone please help me with this. Are these not meant for the Sony SE?

Also where did I get 12.3 pre-WHQL from? It's the same format as the others, but now I don't see it on leshcat's blog? o_O

    Still no dice unfortunately.

Has anyone with an SE actually got 12.2 U5 to work?
I want to do a fresh install of Windows soon, but I find it odd that this thing simply refuses to work.

Video works if I switch it to stamina mode.

I had the same problem with video playback and flash video. Flash video works if video acceleration is disabled, and local videos work using VLC player. However I uninstalled it because I was having too many other weird glitches. I'm trying out 12.3 now.

because these are newer and that usually means more bug fixes and optimizations. however, if the older SONY drivers are running fine for your needs, there's no rush to update them if you ask me.

Newest version is working well so far for my SONY VAIO Z2 except that I still have the undock problem of the PMD.

After clicking on the (physical) button to undock a warning will appear:
"You cannot eject your computer because the driver '\Driver\amdkmdap' is preventing a device from being stopped right now. Try closing all applications and ejecting the computer later."

I have to switch from the external to the notebook display and remove all usb devices from the PMD (even the USB hub or I'll get a "USB2.0 Hub is preventing a device..." error) to be able to undock it at runtime. Or shutdown and restart it which is less hazzle thanks to the SSDs.

I have taken to just ignoring the messages and simply unplugging the PMD. It works most of the time and for those times that don't work, I just reboot.

    Re: 12.3:

    A truly great package!

Ran the YUC, rebooted, ran the install. No issues. All settings (e.g. multiple monitors, orientations, etc.) retained.

What more could I ask for?

I do have a new problem with the Sony Z2.

After resuming from sleep my display backlight won't get turned on.
It's reproducable as it will fail every time I put it to sleep and then turn it back on. I can connect it to an external display, press Win+P and the right arrow key three times to get it to show the screen on the external monitor.
Changing the screen brightness has no effect.

I can't reinstall the drivers at the moment as I'm not at home over easter but didn't bring the PMD - need to live with that for now.

Or is there a newer one? VAIO update doesn't show one though.

I really appreciate leshcat and his team for this package. However, I wonder if there is a way to change the Intel driver (2696) cuz I don't really want to install a test driver into my system. And the 2559 is kinda old D:

Wanted to say thanks for creating something that should be done by Sony.

As others have reported I'm unable to hot undock. I wanted to share my work around to the problem as I Dock/Un-Dock many times through out the day. I use an App called DEVCON from Microsoft. It is included in their Windows Driver Kit (WDK) 7.1.0. and it is extracted from the install file "WDK\setuptools_x64fre.ms. I then create the following shortcuts:

    C:\devcon\setuptools_x64fre_cab001\devcon.exe disable *DEV_6740
    C:\devcon\setuptools_x64fre_cab001\devcon.exe enable *DEV_6740

The above shortcuts allow me to enable/disable the ATI card thus allowing me to Dock/Un-Dock. After I create the shortcuts I assigne hot keys, so I don't even have to click on anything.

The only other thing I have noticed is that if I sleep my system my LCD goes dead. Only the laptop LCD is affected. Any external monitor attached works just fine. I'm still working to figure it out.

Thanks again for an awesome driver package.

update ur driver to renesas/nec usb3 drivers v2.1.32.0 (uninstall any old ver. first)
then update Renesas USB 3.0 Firmware to 4.0.1.5.0.2 (disconnect all USB3 and Run upd720200 a.bat as Administrator)
that will solve "all" PMD issues!

Thanks mak1, it seems to work great!
How did you come to this idea?
Why doesn't the SONY Updater have these files.. I begin to think that there are more outdated drivers in my system.

    For others:
I had some problems at first because the bat file got me the following error message:
I resolved that by disconnecting the Z2 from the PMD first, then uninstalled the usb 3.0 drivers (you'll find that option in "Uninstall a program" btw!) and reinstalled it.
Then I could reinstall the new driver version and update the firmware.
If you're going to connect the PMD now it will use the new drivers and firmware for both devices - check that you have both in the USB 3.0 Host Controller Information utility:
"Renesas Electronics USB 3.0 Host Controller"
"Renesas Electronics USB 3.0 Host Controller 2"
At first I had one with firmware 4012 the other one with 4015 - after using the above method both have 4015.

To undock I have to disconnect external monitors first (by pressing Win+P) but then it works fine. Kudos mak1! :)

Edit: damnit - now it doesn't work anymore :(

I get an error that "HID-compliant consumer control device" is still running and cannot get stopped.
When I unplug everything I'll get "Reneseas Electronics USB 2.0 Hub" cannot be stopped...

I've no relevant issues her with the above driver/fw - Catalyst 12.3 WHQL UnifL combinations, in fact it has solved my previous issues with 3D display, worke smoth with my new HMZ-T1 as well.
Her is a summery of the solved/enhanced functions of Renesas/Nec v2.1.32.0 WHQL USB3 drivers:

    A. Add function:
    A-1. IOCTL_USB_USER_REQUEST(UWSBUSER_GET_POWER_STATE_MAP) is supported.
A-2. HUB's icon isn't shown on the Devices and Printers of Windows7.

    B. Modified driver bugs:
B-1. There is a possibility of BSOD when OUT transaction with data shorter than 8byte
is transferred. Short packet is out of this issue.
We have never seen this BSOD on the real system. We found this on code review.
V2.1.16.0 or later version includes this bug.
B-2. There is a possibility of BSOD when a user changes the resolution of the video
capture application and an ISO device is disconnectd.
We have never seen this BSOD on the real system. We found this on code review.
B-3. There is a possibility of BSOD when OverCurrent indication occurs before Windows
    OS detects the device.
We have never seen this BSOD on the real system. We found this on code review.
B-4. USB3.0 Devices connected with USB3.0 HUB are not detected after S3/S4 resume.
This issue occurs only under the following conditions.
    - C_PORT_CONNECTION of the downstream port of the hub is not changed after resume.
    - The PERSTB of the system is asserted after resume.
B-5. Driver did not check the descriptor size. If USB devices send the descriptor
with invalid size, driver might behave in undefined operation.
B-6. When BIOS does not release the ownership of xHCI after S3/S4 resume, host driver
    should not have been loaded.
B-7. Wrong bandwidth information is displayed in the popup message when available
    bandwidth is consumed.

    C. Solved interoperability issue caused by function driver or system:
C-1. PC freezes when any of the specific devices are disconnected.
C-2. The following specific devices can't work
    i) The specific Wireless Headset does not produce sound in Windows XP enviroment.
ii) The specific Keyboard is not detected. This issue only occurs on V2.1.16.0 .
iii) The specific Keyboard is not detected after remote wakeup under the condition that ForceHCResetOnResume is set to 1.
iv) The specific AV Portable Player disappears from Device Manager after it is disabled in Device Manager.
    v) Time from when the specific USB2.0 Flash is connected until it is detected is over 30 seconds. This issue only occurs on V2.1.16.0 on uPD720200A.
C-3. PC freezes when the specific Audio device is disconnected actively. This issue only occurs on V2.1.25.0 or later version.
C-4. Monitor function of the specific docking station cannot work correctly after resume when multi-display mode is used.
C-5. When multiple USB3.0-hubs including the specific hub are connected by cascade connection and host driver is disabled and enabled, the hub connected with the specific hub's downstream port is not detected.
C-6. When one of the multiple USB3.0 hubs in cascade connection is the specific HUB, it is not detected after S3-Resume.
C-7. When a specific smart phone is working in tethering mode, communication speed is too slow to keep the connection.

    ^I didn't see a real killer feature in 12.4 - is there?

And after two restarts the undock does work again. Maybe not "all" issues are fixed but definitely is better than before (where it wasn't working at all hehe).

The USB firmware/driver update fixed my hot dock/un-dock issue. The dead LCD problem I was having coming out of sleep was due to me picking the wrong Intel Graphics Driver. I thought I had 2nd Gen Intel in my system, but I guess I don't. Currently everything is working great and I have no issues. Thanks for the awesome support!

You do have a 2nd gen intel chipset if you have a Sony S2.
I had the same problem with the 2696 driver and the lcd not turning on after sleep, though. Let's hope the 12.4 release contains an updated version :)

So we should just wait for 12.4? Was 12.3 removed because 12.4 is coming?
