can you take some pics next to the 12" case for a size comparison? I am trying to justify the upgrade.
Thanks -
This is the 12" case shell. We have adjusted the interior to the exact size of the Z. You now have a lot of extra padding along the side walls for shock improvement. With this custom fit the Z will not slide around at all and be held in place with dense form fitting padding.
-
I see... ok thanks for the info. I thought that the size of the shell would have been reduced, but that was probably to expense to do.
-
You are correct. Using an existing mold helps with the cost. But doing it this way actually helps provide more protection for your Z because of the additional padding.
-
ok... I see... Is there a way to buy just the additional padding for those with the 1st gen case and install it our selfs?
-
OK, Now I want the new M3C Z Case.
How about a preorder discount for notebookreview forums members?

I was thinking the same thing! I just bought the Z13 and have been reading all 76 pages of this thread to find the "perfect" case. I was starting to give up hope until these last few pages when this carbon fiber hardshell popped up. I fell in love with it immediately!
Any ETA on when these will hit production?
What is the interior material, microfiber cloth, alcantara... -
I cannot wait to order one of these! Can anyone tell me if matte or glossy carbon fiber better matches the Vaio Z black? I was thinking matte
-
Order both and tell us, which one suits Z better
-
Anyone know where I can find an Incase Black Canvas 13 Sleeve in Canada?
-
Any word on when it will be back in stock? Site says it's Out of Stock at the moment
-
it's still in prototype form, M3C will let us know when it's final.
-
So, mission Z accomplished. Let's proceed with orders
After reading about glossy cases being fingerprint magnets and also getting yellow-ish over time (I might be wrong), I am now considering matte CF or CK.. Do we have a high resolution of matte CF to look at and compare, preferably with few other objects around? I'm kind of trying to see how visible is the pattern compared with glossy case... Is carbon-kevlar case also matte?
...and, can we order finally and how long it will take to get the case? Is there a difference in fulfillment time if we order CF glossy, matte or CK? -
Lovely pictures... did you purchase a Vaio Z to fit the case???
Does a unifying Logitech mouse receiver on the right USB port, slim as it is fit in the new case? -
To be honest, we visited a computer store in a mall and put one in and took some pictures, I cant afford one these
Its a perfect fit, not sure. -
Wow, it's so perfect fit I hope it'll fit my older VGN Z as well. I'm sold
-
just bought 1 from ebay. hope it ok. will post result later.
-
VPC Z Size (per Sony Website):
12.4"(W) x 1.0 - 1.3"(H) x 8.3"(D)
With a few keystrokes, Google reveals a Sony Spec sheet for VGN-Z570N/B (attached below) which shows the VGN Z being:
12.4"(W) x 1.0-1.3"(H) x 8.3"(D)
As several posters previously mentioned, the new and old Z's are the same size.Attached Files:

Awesome! I just ordered mine. Matte carbon fiber for my non glossy black Z. Patience will have to be my virtue here. I will surely post pictures and my review once I receive
-
To all of you that have placed an order We at Mach 3 Composites say thanks and have a great weekend.
-
I placed an order for a glossy one to go with my matte carbon fiber Z13 + glossy 3M shield= glossy finish. I will probably get the case 3m'd once it comes.
-
Any one tried the soft lather case made by sony for the vaio z?
-
Will you have cases where the interior will fit the unit with the large battery?
-
The Vaio Z extended battery doesnt extend out the back, but at an angle that elevated the notebook, effectively making it thicker. It does not fit the current Mach3 case that I have.
-
Great picture of the matte finish... I am 100% sold on my decision now.
-
M3C, what's the overall exterior dimensions (LxWxH) of the 12" / Vaio Z CF case?
-
13.7" X 10.2" X 1.7"
-
lol, that may be going a little far
-
One question...why it's not possible to keep the fibers on your carbon fiber cases completely straight? I know that sometimes cheaper carbon fiber has it, but that shouldn't be case of Mach3Composites, no? I have three carbon fiber cases for my phone and they don't have any flaws at all. Also it looks like your Kevlar finish doesn't suffer from this...
(edit: I was wrong, after checking the up-left corner, I found out Kevlar finish has also this problem...) -
It is somewhat noticeable, however I do not see that on the matte or glossy finish.
-
Well I can see it also on the matte version (look at the down-left corner), but it seems to be the most visible on the glossy carbon one...which is still my fav though.
-
Darn, that's pretty large. I was afraid of that.
It's pretty much the same overall exterior volume as the Zeroshock III.
Better Crush protection, but no space savings.
Hopefully you guys will make a mimalist custom fit CF Case in the future, but I'll have to pass as I already have a ZeroShock III.

hi there,
i'm about
to own a vaio z 13 with extended battery. will that fit in a peli 1080 hardback case?
no local store carries them to try.
edit: which one of the brenthaven ones would fit best?is edge I still possible with an extended battery? is edge the sturdiest by them?
any thoughts on the "braincells" regarding fit? anyone know german retailers for them?
and lastly, there's conflicting info regarding the best size of waterfield sleeve...
i'm looking for rugged sturdy as u can guess as my bag is heavy and full of books and i'm scared for the z's life. what's the toughest out there u reckon?
sorry for rambling and thanks for the help.
cheers -
M3C i can still see irregular weaves. Also do you have anything for the new macbook air? I'm interested in getting a 13in macbook air. They are very thin so I want to know if you have foam that will provide a tough fit.
-
Irregular weaves? You guys do know that this is real carbon fiber we're talking about here, not a sticker.
-
So? I use cases from this company for my phone and there are no irregular weaves whatsoever.
edit: btw, when I was asking for the matte surface, I was hoping for something like this:
-
To be honest, I've used a lot of carbon stuff for my car parts, and their weaves aren't irregular. YES, they are real carbon, not stickers.
-
Ask them to make a Sony Vaio Z Case. Would be nice to have another option.
-
It is very easy to work the carbon fibre you can make your own case if you want!! With a friend we usually make a custom windsurf board with carbon fibre!! Really easy to work with that material but really expensive too
-
thats a lot of bricks!
now try it with a netbook and a sleeve
-
Don't know if M3C is trying to avoid the weave problem. But still would like to hear his input.
-
M3C what about the weight that the case would add to the notebook..
what can I expect with notebook+case= ??kg -
Why not ask any current owners of a M3C carbon fiber product of their opinion on the weave? I don't remember seeing anyone on Notebook Review Forums complain about their M3C product.
-
What kind of help it would be? One current owner said, that the case surely has some weaves, but he doesn't care. Well I do...

twe90kid,
The pictures I have been posting have been taken from a stash of prototyped cases I keep at my house. If a customer does get a case and they are not satisfied we stand behind the product 100% and either fix, replace, or refund to their satisfaction. We are also in work on a MacBook Air custom case design. We are trying to keep it around the same thickness of our iPad case (3CM). It will be very slick and low profile with a custom internal fit like we are doing for the Z. Thanks for great questions. -
That's what i called customer service.!
I might be getting an Ipad case and a Macbook Air case. Depends though.
The only thing I need to consider on the ipad case is not being able to stand the ipad up @ a 35-45 degree angle! -
The case weight is about 1.4 LBS or 0.635029318 Kilograms.
-
Came down to three mbags for me, the Be.ez, Pakuma and Booq. Finally, largely a decision made by rolling dice, went with the Booq Taipan slim S. Happy to offer up a review when it arrives if anyone is interested.
-
so what's the status on the M3C case for Vaio Z? enough pre-orders?
