I think your asking if the case was empty? That is our 15" case, I had a Dell 1525 inspiron in it.

Does this SGP skin fit Sony Vaio VPCZ12?
I can't really tell from the picture whether this is VGN-Z11 or VPC-Z11.
Can anyone help me? I really need some kind of skin protection for my expensive notebook! :)

@philophob : It's VPC-Z11 (on the first picture you can see that the palmrest is not part of the chassis)

FYI I recieved my new generation Z (VPC-Z series) and the Beyza case still works perfectly. So yes, to those who've asked it is perfectly compatible with both Vaio Z generations and fits both tightly without allowing the Z to flop around as in the case of the oem neoprene slip case.

Is there a consensus on a nice thin sleeve that provides adequate protection? The Zeroshock III looks nice but it's hard to find good pictures of it and it looks like it may be a bit bulky. It's also a good bit larger than the laptop, though I guess that's the function of having one of the few laptops with a 16:9 widescreen.

Love the M3C case but its a bit too expensive for me.

Maybe consider the ZeroShock IV? There's a buncha pictures of the ZeroShock III case in this thread as well as the VPC-Z owners thread (more so in Part 1)

IF you would like a certain picture of the case, i can take them for you as I have the black one.

The zeroshock IV has more padding but is also significantly thicker than the zeroshock III. It is also designed for 13.3" notebooks and not the 13.1" aspect of the Vaio Z meaning there is some internal slack space...

I like SFbags but that's not exactly cheap ... cheaper the M3C case however. The neoprene and nylon of the SFbags provides good protection but not 'quite' as good as the zeroshock I think if you were to drop the notebook.

Yours will probably be shipping very soon. I preordered the first day it was available back in November as well. You can also email MC3 and ask when yours is expected to ship. I emailed him three times since November to get an update on the shipping date and have received responses very quickly.

Well after 2 months and $160 I received my M3C case. Wow, did my heart sink. Unit looks used... Scratches everywhere. Big ones. Hinges all scratched up like on a used unit. Imperfections in one of my corners. It looks so bad I would never have sent it to a customer. Nowhere near a perfect fit for the Z either, it slides up and across. I contacted the owner to replace or refund.

Wow, I want to first say we have shipped hundreds of cases and have never had a response like this. I can say that I personally packed up that case and it was nothing even close to that condition. It was inspected waxed and packaged by me! We stand by our cases. We offer a full refund to anyone who get a case and is not satisfied. This customer was contacted with in a few hours of contacting us and advised that the case could be returned for a full refund. We pride ourselves on our product and our rapid response to our customers.

I appreciate the fact you checked my unit before it shipped but if that were the case I'd recommend you get glasses. The scratches are not only visible to the naked eye with the unit a couple feet away on my desk, but you can also FEEL the scratches because they are deep. Unacceptable. I want a replacement case, and not have to wait another 2 months. I don't want to say, "oh darn 2 months and $160 down the drain." Refunding a faulty product is not customer service M3C..I have a lawyer for that. I was your 75th pre order customer because I wanted this case. 2 months later a scratched, defective product arrives at my door and you tell me youll refund it...very nice. Can you replace the case in a feasible amount of time without defects? I want to keep this unit but deep down I know that's the wrong thing to do. Pictures coming today. I am interested to see other users impressions when they receive their unit.

We have e-mailed you(within a few hours of your initial email to us), left a voice mail. You have not contacted us back. Our only communication seems to be this public forum. How are we to help you in this if you do not communicate to us directly. We have contacted most of our customers who we have shipped these to cases to and everyone we spoke with was satisfied. We are more then happy to work this out with you if you would just contact us. I will even PM you my direct number.

While your issue is being resolved, you would be kind enough to take this issue up with the retailer via PM or direct contact.

Once the issue is resolved, feel free to post the resolution. Whatever the outcome.

I just got a Think Tank Urban Disguise 35 V2.0. My Vaio Z fits perfectly in the back laptop storage area.

There's enough room for plenty of other gear as well. But the rear laptop storage is just perfect. Not too big, not to small, just right.

I sent them an e-mail and they said it's pre-cut, but they just don't remove it anymore in case people don't want the logo to be shown. So I looked very closely, and I saw faint lines of the VAIO logo, then I just poked them out and it's good to go. I wish there was an easier way to poke them out though because now I got my fingerprints all over the back causing air bubbles..I think I'm gonna order another one but this time poke out the logo while it's still on the yellow paper.

Anyone have a review about the M3C sleeves for Sony Vaio Z?

Also, since M3C is on this forum: It says in stock on your website and then in the text below to expect 4-6 weeks for delivery. Should that also be expected when it is in stock?

    Thank you :)

Just a quick note to say I have both the new and old versions of the M3C case for the Vaio Z. The dimensions of the newer case are the same as the old one, but uses 5 layers of carbon fibre cf. 3 in the former version. There are also additional foam bumpers inside to provide a 'more snug' fit. However, the fit isn't perfect and I do wish they used higher density foam as the bumpers do compress with time.

There are some stick on, velcro rubber strips included to help customise the fit further. Overall, despite minor quibbles above, I'm actually very happy with my M3C case. It provides great hard case protection in the backpack or briefcase. I'm reaslitic enough to know my cases wear with time and that ths is a small company, so I don't expect the finish of a Hermes bag!

Kevin, the president of the company is very responsive to emails.

Where I need a messenger style sleeve, the Waterfield one is the best, bar none. Fits the extended battery fine too. Worth every cent.

I use my old M3C case as an underarm work folio.

Does Mach 3 composites have a retailer in Hong Kong? If not, what's the shipping cost? There's still quite a few years before I can apply for a credit card and my parents will definitely deny a USD $163 purchase (without factoring shipping costs) :(.

Mach3 is a very small company that does online orders from the US. Your best bet to get one is to convince your parents! haha You'll have to contact them for overseas shipping rates.

I was wondering if anyone would be able to suggest a rigid sleeve/case for a Z12 - I'm going to Uganda in the summer and don't want it to get crushed in my bag.

Any thoughts? The Mach 3 case looks great, but a touch too expensive!

The Mach 3 is one of the best hard cases available. Sure, it's not 'perfect' but I will post some long term experiences with it.

I first purchased the case as a 12" case prior to the Mach3 Vaio Z model specifically coming up. That was a lighter case with fewer (I think 3) layers of carbon fibre. They had some hinge deficits which were manufacturing gremlins now totally sorted (and to Kevin at M3C's credit, he posted me spare hinges very quickly and complimentary).

I now use the 12" case a a document folio and have the current production Vaio Z case. I also have the waterfield SF sleeve which is excellent for air travel and accomodates the extended battery, which the M3C does not. I also have the leather, Sony Z case which is nice and classy but almost never used.

The current M3C case is less flexy than the old one and has 5 layers of CF. I have the glossy one. The plastic coating isn't scratch proof and once you get over (quickly) that fact, you appreciate it for it's practicality. The soft foam provides reasonable cover and a bit of leeway. It's not a perfect fit, which is fine as I have enough room to insert a logitech mouse (nano) receiver and occasionally slip a few pieces of paper or articles into the bottom of the case with my laptop.

The hinges are well made, well designed and durable.

Faults? Well, cost. Kevin does negotiate on international shipping on an ad hoc basis. The anodised hinges are black but you can chip the coating off, which isn't M3C's fault. The aluminium underneath is sturdy.

There are several improvements which i will list below as M3C have evolved this case with time:

Having had to take apart some of the 'old' case doing a hinge replacement, the hinges and attached with a screwn and a nut on the reverse (which is not readily visible as you have to peel back the foam). The nut should be glued or fixed better as if the nut comes off, trying to unscrew and reattach the hinge is irritatingly fiddly.

The plastic coating could be a little more scratch resistant. The foam inside could be higher density.

The case is a nice compromise between weight and durability/protection although i wonder if it could be more rigid and lighter sometimes. I suspect that may make the case too brittle and a shattered CF case is expensive! The current model survives a light drop just fine.

Overall, I love my M3C case and it is the most used. It doesn't accomodate the extended battery. But it protects my laptop, well and slips into my briefcase without difficulty. If it broke, I'd replace it. Kevin's aftersales service at M3C was also pleasant and he responds nicely to email exchange. It's neat, looks sexy and provides a hard-case protection for an expensive notebook.

I wonder whether customisable, insertable high density foam (cut to measure) pads would be an idea so that the standard case fit could be easily modified to fit say a Lenovo X201, an updated Vaio, Macbook Air etc... should one replace their Vaio Z.

I have no affiliation with M3C other than having bought 2 cases.

Yes they did Mach 3 Composites made some cases for us and xxGenericSNxx did a review here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/sony/551259-mach-3-composites-z-caron-fiber-case-impressions.html

site link here: Mach 3 Composites: Mach 3 Composites - 12" Carbon Fiber Laptop Case

looks like the only case left in stock is the carbon fiber glossy... i personally like the matte, but it's a lil high for my budget (especially with a desktop build ongoing atm)

Thx for reply. I was interested in clip-on case. I use boblbee backpack so just trying to find way to seemlessly protect my Z from scratches and pressure inside of bag while still having access to all ports.

Yeah sorry. I think if you want to prevent pressure, your best bet will be a hard case such as the MC3. I think they made a clip on for the first gen VGN Z, but I haven't see anything for the VPC Z.

FYI I was just about to order a M3C case for my Z13 when I saw this on M3C's Facebook page:

Does anyone have more info on this? Should we wait?

Btw, does anybody have decent pictures of their matte carbon-fiber version? It seems many went with the glossy version and I can't find any picture that features both for comparison purposes.

    Thanks!

yea, I don't think it is a question of glory, it just makes it a bother to use

I considered for a long time buying one and removing the battery, but I realized that I just wouldn't do it, and that the M3C case would sit an gather dust until it got sold for a loss.

    Hey Guys,

I need a sleeve/hard case for my Vaio Z for when I travel...but I don't want to spend too much for it...what's the best sleeve I can get for less than like...$50? Any ideas?

I don't travel too much, so that's why I don't want to spent too much either.
