Hi.I want to thanks everyone in this forum especially "coolguy" for the guide.I'm proud owner of FZ21M and with your help here i manage to run Windows 7x64 with 4GB Ram.The only "problems" i had is with wireless and bluetooth but i buy two independents micro usb adapters (I got now bluetooth 3.0 version that i can open and disable from system tray and wireless from widows key + X).And i got a step far from this.I manage to Replace the cpu T7250 with the T8300 and adding a solid state ocz vertex 2 120GB.The FZ acting like a desktop and as from the temperature of the cpu running the prime95 for 2 hours full stress i got max temp 44 degrees(arctic silver 5 does a great job,i put in gpu chip too). The Windows Experience Index goes to Cpu 6.0 from 5.1 the same with memory.Graphics 5.3 Gaming Graphics 4.6 and Primary hard Disk 7.7 nothing changing here(I've had the same Results with T7250).For gpu i use windows update drivers because i found them very stable for everything especially for blue ray movies with TMT 3.I have all ready Enable Intel VT and AHCI with Trim support.
I keep it until Microsoft release the next operating system (Windows 8?????)

I've been following this thread with a bit of interest - I've just about fully modified my FZ11S (right down to the paintwork - I'll post some photos when it's re-assembled!).
As for the flickering problem, I had this on my old screen - you might find the screen bezel pinches the power cables running from the inverter. Carefully unscrew the bezel and take the pressure off, then switch your laptop on. If this solves the problem you will just need to reposition the cables with a small amount of sticky tape so they don't get pinched. Just watch that inverter as it has a nasty bit of voltage running through it.
If not your more likely to have a bad inverter then a screen - the only way to check is process of elimination unfortunately! Could be your GPU but only if it's glitched/scrambled graphics as opposed to a flicker (brightness). -
Ben HCS, did your screen flicker issue respond to tilting the screen?
Mine does flicker/ black out (no backlight) sometimes, but comes back when tilting the screen. -
Updated Intel Wifi driver.
-
Good job neof1z.
-
To be honest it was completely random - only when the pressure was relieved from the cable did that stop it for good.
-
I just reinstalled my VGN-FZ21M with an Win7 that i slipstreamed sp1 into.
I got all the way to 18 the wifi udate, and starting the exe call's for the UAC and then nothing even tried run as admin. Any idea?
Regards Thomas -
The driver installer ran fine for me. I have UAC turned OFF. Do you have any security software installed?
-
The exe for the Wifi Driver does not show a prompt when installation is complete. It runs for a few seconds and then disappears. Check in device manager to see if it updated ur Wifi Driver.
-
Maybe i didn't wait long enough, restarted, disabled norton, ran as admin... But when running it directly from the web (not saving to disk first) it ran as supposed?! And an animated square shape, came up for a while, and like stated here it never showed a completed sign. But now it works
-
Well got my laptop re-assembled with it's new paint job!
I've got some photos of it but I'll need to upload them somewhere as I don't think I can post them up directly here? (Please correct me if I'm wrong!).
Whilst I'm getting it upgraded, can anyone point me in the right direction of a good Blu Ray drive for a Sony VAIO FZ11S? It's an IDE interface. If possible I would like it to write them as well, but I'm guessing that might be unlikely with this interface? -
thanks for this guide, at last, I managed to install everything, but only one problem.
the fu@~#ng optiarc bd-rom 5500A drive
last year i followed this guide and i installed windows 7 on my laptop, but bd-rom didn't recognized bluray discs, cd and dvd are recognized perfectly.
i dont know if this will be useful:
Propiedades del dispositivo:

if anyone could help me please, i dont know what more i cand do...
before you ask to me, i have installed powerdvd 10, directx 11, so I dont know what's the problem.
thanks -
sorry about posting twice, but i want to add more information about my problem.
I think that is a driver issue. why? because in the device manager, my optiarc bd-rom 5500A appears recognized as a cd-rom or dvd-rom device.
Im going crazy with this problem. nvidia driver ok, power dvd recognizes optiarc 5500A, but windows 7 refuses to recognize it like a blu ray device.
help please! -
Thank you for providing this guide. I used it when I upgraded to 64-bit Windows 7 before you added the IDT/Sigmatel driver to the guide. Therefore, I had initially installed the Microsoft High Definition Audio Device driver and had no real problems with it (other than the fact that it requires me to manually switch to other audio devices when I want to connect to something other than my built-in computer speakers). Once I noticed that you added the IDT driver, I decided to install it and try it out. It worked fine and even provided a boost in volume from my computer speakers (even though they still aren't that loud), but I recently discovered a problem with the HDMI connection. Notably, when I play blu-ray disks using WinDVD for Bluray, the DTS Digital audio does not appear to be transmitted over the HDMI connection. However, when I switch to languages using Dolby Digital instead of DTS, the audio signal can be transmitted over the HDMI connection. I have no problem playing DTS Digital over the computer speakers, just through the HDMI cable. I just switched back to the Microsoft driver and have no problem transmitting the DTS signal. Is it possible that the problem is that DTS is not supported for the HDMI connection by the IDT driver, or do you think something else is going?
-
ejdna, the DTS through HDMI issue is probably caused by the IDT driver. The only pros with the IDT driver are options like StereoMix and the auto Mic jack switching.
I will update the IDT driver soon. Hopefully the update will resolve the issue. -
is this guide usefull for y21 series clean win7 install too?
or can i just follow these instructions :
Sony eSupport - Electronics - Support Information -
hi there , thank you sooooo much for this guide!
need some advice ....
when doing the clean install does it make a difference when one installs all the 'important+optional' windows updates?
meaning , should i
A/
do a clean install
then all the 'important+optional' windows updates
then install the drivers in this guide?
or do i
B/
do a clean install (disable win updates)
then install the drivers in this guide
then do all 'important+optional' windows updates?
does it make any difference or am i just splitting hairs? -
I personally install all drivers first, then run windows update.
-
Follow the instructions in Sony support.
-
rudebutt1,
You can run Windows Update/ install drivers in whatever order you want. Install Windows 7 SP1 before installing the drivers. -
I'm using the update IDT driver from the guide and i don't have any issues passing DTS or Dolby Digital signal to my AV Receiver with TMT 3 latest version from blu ray or dvd.

Hello, i am new here
A friend of mine has this laptop VGN-CR41S/P and wants to put win7 64bit.
I have 2 questions:
1) Will it recognise the webcam? And if not,
2) Are any available drivers for this model?
Thank you.

Since this thread is specifically about the FZ model your chances of finding some one with direct CR experience are slim to none. You need to use the search option to find a more appropriate thread or start a new one.

I downloaded the toshiba bluetooth stack, and replaced the .exe file, but it shows which is not ready when running it.
-
Did you place the patched exe in the correct folder as mentioned? You should not restart/ open the application before replacing the exe file.
What model is your FZ? FZ-2xx and newer models have Broadcom bluetooth stack, not Toshiba. -
Updated Nvidia driver to 270.51 beta.
Fixed slow log off (force shut down message when logging off) issue. -
First off, thank you so much for the excellent guide. It felt like I've got a brand new computer all over again, once I managed to install Windows7.
I've got a question about bluetooth functionality. I've been using the Toshiba stack until recently, when I realized that this was disabling the ability to connect my Blackberry to the PC.
As soon as I removed the Toshiba Bluetooth Stack I was able to connect my phone again. The problem is, I have 3 "Bluetooth Peripheral Device" entries with exclamation marks in Device Manager. I'm trying to find the correct drivers to solve this, but have been unsuccessful so far.
Do you have any suggestions?
Thank you in advance -
thank you!
successfully installed Win7 64 then installed SP1 then updates and drivers and all has been working for the last couple of days
but today i got a message in the action centre saying 'sony firmware extension parser is missing a driver' and when i go to sony asia support site for vgn-fz17g the only option in downloads is the vaio update program (which finds no updates)
i dont have any 'unknown device' in the device manager hence havent been able to run/install the SFEP driver as suggested
when i do try to run it on its own it fails as i get a message 'you have to run the 64bit version of DPInst.exe on this machine'
any ideas?
cheers -
ignore my post above ..
dont know how but all seems to have fixed itself
SFEP device is now listed under Human Interface Devices in the Device manager with the correct driver (8.0.1.2) and Action Centre isnt bugging me any more
-
rudebutt1, glad you got everything working.
-
How did you remove the Toshiba stack? Uninstall all the devices with exclamation mark from Device manager (check delete driver software), and restart. Windows should start installing the generic drivers after restarting.
-
Thank you for the response. Removing the entries from Device manager did not help. After a restart windows attempts to install them again and it fails. They just appear in Dev manager again.
Regarding the Toshiba Bluetooth Stack, I uninstalled the thing like any other program, through the add/remove programs. Unfortunately, this seems to remove a few drivers as well. I tried to install these missing drivers by directing Windows to the actual Drivers folder in the Toshiba stack, but it didn't help. -
Giggs11,
Did you restart after uninstalling the Toshiba stack? You need to uninstall (check remove driver software if available) for the generic bluetooth adapter from the device manager and restart.
Can you post a screenshot of the device manager if the above step doesn't work?
Edit: The microsoft drivers for the generic BT adapter are available here C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\bth.inf_amd64_neutral_e54666f6a3e5af91 -
Yes, there could be a problem with WinDVD since neither Sony nor Corel support it any longer and I've had problems updating the AACS key. However, I'm opposed to paying for firmware for hardware that I've already paid for.
-
I've had problems with the mike since rolling back to the Windows driver. My solution was to install the Vista driver Sony provides on it's website, but I won't be able to test whether I have a problem passing DTS through HDMI with it for a couple of weeks yet.
On another note, when I originally installed Windows 7, I had asked Windows to search for and install drivers before I found this guide. This actually created a bit of a headache for installing the proper driver for the webcam since the Microsoft USB webcam device (which doesn't work with the Motion Eye webcam in my Vaio) it installed seemed to override any other driver I tried to replace it with later, including the drivers you post here and the drivers that Sony displays for either Windows 7 or Vista for the FZ-4000. I found the solution here: Solved Problems updating driver manually (webcam sony vaio) - Windows 7 Forums.
Basically it involves manually downloading and installing a webcam driver pack (FZ3_CAMERA_DRIVER.ZIP) that can override the Microsoft driver from the following site:
ftp://ftp.vaio-link.com/PUB/VAIO/ORIGINAL/
Just wanted to point this out in case other people have the same problem. -
I actually had problems with installing the webcam for the FZ and found a solution in a forum about the CR series. I think it should work if you follow the instructions in my last post about it, but grab the following driver pack instead:
ftp://ftp.vaio-link.com/PUB/VAIO/ORIGINAL/CR3_CAMERA_DRIVER.ZIP -
ejdna,
The VCC-8 camera driver is linked already linked in the first page. You need to extract the driver before installing as mentioned in my guide. -
Thank alot for the write up.
The only thing i cant get working is the IDT / Sigmatel Audio modded driver 6.10.6224.7
I am confused by your instructions. It says it is no compatible with the computer??? I am installing it on FZ-280E -
^EDIT
My computer plays audio thru HDMI and headphone jack but i am unable to get DTS and dolby digital audio. the HDMI connection only outputs 2 speakers -
Is this happening with the modded IDT driver or the default Windows audio driver?
-
As i say a few post before I can get DTS and DOLBY DIGITAL from dvds mkv and blu-rays with the driver from the guide.Everyone with problems check your equipment if capable to passing this signal and use k-lite mega pack for mkvs and TMT 3 for dvd and blu-rays.

Hello,
My Sony Motion Eye Webcam Ricoh VCC8 works on Windows 7 however its function is extremely limited and poor quality. Before I upgraded from Vista Home Premium to 7 Home Premium I was able to control almost all aspects of the webcam in the camera control tab of its settings. Including the Low light Compensation for indoor using
After upgrading to Win7 Pro x64 using the Guide
Currently I have control of most of the items in the Video Proc Amp section of the setings with the exception of White Balance, Gain, and Color Enable.
Every item in the Camera Control tab is gray and unable to adjust
This includes: Zoom, Focus, Exposure, Aperture (Iris), Pan, Tilt, Roll, and Low Light Compensation.
Anyone knows how to adjust these settings to allow me to at least control the Low Light Compensation.
Thank you in advance!
I will never buy Sony Laptop again -
chimenfr,
The advanced property editing should be a hardware/ driver limitation. I will see if I can modify the inf to enable the disabled settings. -
Many thanks coolguy
