Did you install the Sony software in the order mentioned? The order of install for Setting utility series and Vaio control center is very important. The Special button won't work if you change the order.
Do you have the file "SBCurrentSettingdata.xml" in this folder C:\ProgramData\Sony Corporation\Setting Utility Series?
You have done something wrong. It should work properly.
-
If I install the video driver again I don't have to install everything else right? Cause I know there is an order and I'll be really lazy if i have to spend the whole night re-updating all those drives that are working again
-
^ You can install the GPU driver in any order.
-
Really greatest Job ever found on the net! You saved My Win7 x64 installation which I sold even I knew this doesnt work. Thx 1000 times!
-
When we change volume using volume buttons onthe laptop, there is no display of volume bar moving as there used to be with original VAIO drivers- any way to sort that out?
-
You need to install all the Sony software as mentioned in the guide.
-
You are welcome.
-
File named "SBCurrentSettingdata.xml " is missing in the folder specified, or any other folder.
I respected the order mentioned in the guide, but I think my problem is different. Before I found your guide, I tried to install some VISTA versions of Setting utility series and Vaio control center, and forgot to uninstall them.
Anyway, is there a solution to fix this? One that is not very complicated and would require a Win reinstall ? Should an uninstall of Setting utility series and Vaio control center and a clean install, fix it ?
If not, it's OK, I can live with it.
Great work anyway.
Sincerely,
Razvan -
^ Uninstall all Sony software (restart as required), and then re-install all software in the order mentioned in page 1.

Is it possible to upgrade the FZ31M to have an i5/i7 processor? I mean what's the most upgrade this can handle? I've put windows 7 on it- thanks to Rajesh and also upgraded ram to 4GB. What else can be done to it instead of buying a new laptop- because this laptop is pretty good I'd say.
-
You can see the compatible CPU's for the 965 PM chipset here http://ark.intel.com/chipset.aspx?familyID=28116#compatibility
-
Don't understand what I can do with this? Which one do I purchase? What do I need? How can I install it? Thanks CoolGuy
-
If you do not understand this, better do not install a new processor, it isn't that simple like change the SO-DIMM or the hard drive. You need to disassemble the whole notebook and you should not forget the extra heat from "stronger" prozessor, and no, there is no chance for an core i5/i7 prozessor on Sony Vaio FZ.

Anyone know of a better driver for the monitor than the Generic pnp one.
On my FZ11Z with Win7 and Nvidia 275.33 its not very good quality with an external monitor -
There are 2 Bluetooth Stacks- Broadcom and Toshiba- which one to use? I have a VGN-FZ31M
-
What do you mean by "not very good quality"?
-
It should be Broadcom stack for your model. Check with your original drivers from the support page.
-
The Screen is a samsung syncmaster 2053BW and the quality is rubbish , even with the driver from Samsung.
Suppose it could be its just not a good screen , blurred and not sharp at 1600 x 1050. Playing with Nvidia settings made no difference either.
Expect I need a better external screen.
-
Is the external monitor connected through HDMI or VGA?
What resolution do you see for the external monitor in the Nvidia control panel? You need to set the right refresh rate too. Sometimes they seem to be set wrong by default. -
Connection is vga and res = 1600 x 1050, 60hz and its rubbish
-
I think that it's an issue with the refresh rate. What is the maximum refresh rate of the monitor?
You can create a custom refresh rate for 1650x1050 from the Nvidia control panel if the specified refresh rate of the monitor is not 60 Hz. -
Tried a couple of different settings.... guess a SAMSUNG screen is just not as good as the dual lamp X black one fitted to the FZ
-
Try the Microsoft driver or the driver from Laptopvideo2go with the modded inf.
-
I used a friends Mac Book Pro- and the screen quality was so bright and crystal clear sharp- is there a way to improve the quality or brightness of the fz31m?
I have mine on full brightness but still doesn't seem as a 1080P screen should. Should i be looking to upgrade the screen with a new one perhaps? -
But FZ doesn't have a 1080p screen only 1280x800 pixels. It can output 1080p video through the HDMI though.
I don't think that you can upgrade the LCD. -

Windows 7 X64 Proffesional
Sony Vaio VGN-FZ190FE -
It looks like your GPU had died. You can call Sony for a free replacement.
The issue could also be due to bad RAM. -
If you can, but cuandoinstalao windows 7 x32 with original driver for Sony Vaio Windows Vista x32, works fine .... not to do.
-
ScuderiaConchiglia NBR Vaio Team Curmudgeon
Then use that driver.

I need to improve graphics performance, so I want to install the latest driver
-
gerteleco,
There is nothing with the 275.33 driver. Did you try the Microsoft update 257.41 driver? -
Just a quick question. Just re-built an FZ31Z from scratch changing damaged plastics for better condition ones.... Works perfectly but daft me forgot to photgraph exactly where the tiny Bluetooth antenna is fitted inside, so I fitted it in the best available place not sheilded by the magnesium case.
Anyone have any idea where the bluetooth antenna is inside the FZ. I know all the Wifi antennas are inside the lid behind the bezel, but I couldn't see any clue as to where the bluetooth antenna is (its identical to the wifi one) fitted under the mother board. The cable which runs from the bluetooth module suggests it runs at the side of the HDD and then somewhere else, but after 2 hours of head scratching I gave up trying to work out the exact original location....
HELP ! -
Thx... but doesn't help... cable disappears under the motherboard in the pictures.
Will need to keep looking... or dismantle another FZ..
-
Hello, I am a girl Italian Roberta, thanks to this forum I managed to install windows 7 64 bit on my VAIO VGN-FZ21M and it works perfectly all the special keys 'AV' and 'S1' YOU ARE GREAT .... and in particular to coolguy that made this possible ... now I enjoy my Vaio with no problems ...

Hi all, I installed all the drivers from the list on my Vaio VGN-FZ240N but my audio driver isn't working correctly. Well, the speakers work flawlessly, but the mic is not available.
Anyone else had the same problem? How did you fixed it? -
What driver are you using?
If you use the default Windows driver, change the default microphone in recording devices. -
I am using the default one yes. I discovered by accident that when moving the lid while holding it near the built-in mic it starts working. I think there is problem with connectivity so I'm taking it for repair.
Thanks tough. Cheers
-
Which one of these drivers is the brightness control driver?
-
Sony shared library, SFEP driver, Vaio event service and the GPU driver.
-
ScuderiaConchiglia NBR Vaio Team Curmudgeon
And the sequence in which these four are installed is VERY important.
Gary -
I discovered these new drivers for Alps touch pad
7.6.529.210

Rajesh-I am trying to install the nVidia driver is sec. 4.1. I have followed all to the point of installation but get stuck as nVidia does a scan and says that it cannot find compatible hardware and stops me at that point. I have a GeForce 8400M GT card and don't know what the problem is or how to proceed from here. Please help ASAP. I will be looking for a post or email me at [email protected] Thanks
-
Is this in an FZ? Post the hardware ID of the GPU from the device manager.
-
I have a Sony Vaio VGN-FZ285U that originally had win vista ultimate x32 and did a clean install of win 7 professional x64. Since then I have had driver problems for my nVidia GeForce 8400M GT. I was trying to install the driver in 4.1 of the manual but could not for the reason state above. I finally went with the other one in 4 and had no problem. I do not know what functionality I am missing with this one but it does work.
I also am having problems with my webcam. Since the upgrade it does not work at all and I have not been able to determine why. I had webcam companion 2 and uninstalled that when I saw webcam companion 4 in the manual hoping that that would solve the problem, but no. When I go into devices and printers, hardware, properties it says that the device is working properly, but when I start the software I get the message webcam not found. Webcam is either being used by another program or is not connected. I click connect and get the same thing. The webcam does not work with anything-yahoo messenger, skype, webcam companion are the ones that I have tested. I am at a total loss as to how to figure out what the problem is and what to do to fix it. The cam was working fine with vista x32. -
^ You must install the appropriate camera driver in page 1 for the web cam to work.
Again, what is the hardware id of your Nvidia GPU in the device manager? -
PCI ID 0x10DE /0x0426 (nVidia Corp. / GeForce 8400M GT
Is this what you are looking for? -
No, the full ID under the display adapters > details tab > hardware ID. Just copy and paste the first line.
