It seems as if our computers are not to blame.

I'm hoping for an update on this soon.

Indeed, in the meantime I'll suck it up and either continue using the classic version or use IE tab

I'll just use IE7 for Hotmail.

This is really the first time I've used Firefox on my own and not on someone else's computer. I'm pretty satisfied right now. A few sites are a little jagged, but I'm guessing it's the same deal as Hotmail.

Hasn't FF taken the IE road, looks more bloated and obviously slower than its progenitors. Sure they've stepped up the oomph factor and added an eye candy here and there, overall it's an evolutionary release not a revolutionary one.

    . personal experiences?
    . numbers to reference to?

FF always has its own oomph factor and "eye candy" dingy via its addone-extensions. FF3 is a total remake of its core engine, like IE8, like Opera 9.5

care to define for us what is the revolutionary that u would want to see in a browser?

    cheers ...

I noticed minor hiccups. Observe the swirling "loading" sign each tab has while the page loads, the animation becomes jerky as you open more and more pages, with FF3 I observed this with only 2 tabs open none being content intensive. Also the colour scheme seems to be borrowed from Vista's own colour scheme which isn't very good on its own. See the faint blue colour in the attached image and contrast this with the rich blue FF2 offered.

These two observation forced me to construe that FF3 is going the IE way with a larger memory footprint. Just a gut feeling.

Why do good things have to drastically change?

I got rid of FF3 and reinstall FF2 to get back the ability to read pdf inline, a thing that I'm doing very frequently every day.
I have been very disappointed when I tried FF3 since on the top of the pdf problem, FF3 is not compatible with a bunch of other very useful extensions such as mediaplayerconnectivity...

Well, as seen for the transition of XP to the sluggish Vista, FF3 offers probably tons of super features but it has forgot some that were essential to me.

Conclusion, FF3 will be OK for me in few month when all the FF2 features will be added. Let's wait for FF3.1 and keep your FF2.0.014 install file...

PS: FF2 is difficult to find, here is the link if you find yourself trapped in FF3:
    http://mozilla-mirror-origin.intern.../2.0.0.14/win32/fr/Firefox Setup 2.0.0.14.exe
    only problem, it's in french!

PS2: I just found a link for other distributions and languages:
    ftp://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/2.0.0.14/

*sigh* i've had a few crashes with FF3 yesterday :(

Good thing I had that restore session on, but I wish it wouldn't happen.

I've had a couple of addons to not work also, but I'm sure they'll be rewritten for FF3 soon enough

just a quick question, does ff3 store the bookmark file in the same folder as ff2?
i added a few sites but the modified date remains the same?

I've had no more crashes ever since the one crash on day one. The only incompatible thing that I have noticed is that I am not able to modify certain options in my router setup page.

Just downloaded and installed. Haven't played around with it at all yet. I connect through a mobile phone as a modem. All I can say is WOW. FF3 loads pages much much faster than FF2 ever did for me. I didn't even know there was a FF3 before reading these forums. So Ummm... Thanks.

I thought that the memory hole issue was had been fixed by Beta 5, since back then I remember having 10-15 tabs open and would observe the memory never hit 150K in task manager. But I guess I was wrong! I only have two tabs open right now (both NBR threads) and already FF3 is eating up 180K of my RAM  Is the memory leak issue back to haunt us??

i believe that one must re-think what "using" lots of memory mean nowadays - take vista as the base!
. if u have plenty of ram and the system is not being underperformed, u are not having any issues
. now if u have other important apps and if FF3 still "hogging" then u can complain
. take a closer look at ur CPU number, if it is not spiking, u r not having any issues
. FF3 "manages" its system resource usages much much better than ff2

    cheers ...

    That's what I'm thinking too:

-) What is the purpose in having 2GB RAM if you don't use it for better performance. I mean that's the reason why you buy so much RAM - in order to enhance performance.

A lot of memory issues are also caused by poorly written extensions, make sure any extensions you have are leaking memory.

Right click on a field and check "Check Spelling". It should be enabled by default though. You could also download a spell check extension if all else fails.

i personally prefer ie view lite, at least i think that's what it's called.

having IE within the tab was kind of weird because since i knew firefox was open, my mind keeps trying to do mouse gestures and other things that are only associated with firefox.

    but either are viable solutions

Anyone else have trouble with fullscreen videos? For example, on YouTube when I try to view a video and go fullscreen, it's just black. On IE, this works fine.

I've been using FF3 since the day it was released to the public. All has been pretty good so far. Yesterday I suffered 3 crashes just from doing normal browsing.

Basically FF3 quit responding and I had to force quit the app. Since then i've rebooted Vista and i'm monitoring to see if I get anymore crashes.

    . try the same pages/sites with IE7?
. try also increase FF cache to 76 instead of the normal 50

I never suffered a single crash with FF2. Honestly, I think I might go back if I get another one. I didn't want to overreact, but if it wasn't happening with FF2, then I don't feel I should have to put up with it on a browser that's supposed to be much improved. It's not even like I'm noticing that much of a better experience with FF3, anyway.

I need help. I downloaded FF3, didn't like the new address bar and drop down list, went back to FF2.

So how do I make the drop down address list to be:
    1. single spaced?
    2. have a list of all the links that you type into your address bar
    - so not only the last 12 links are only shown in the drop down list
    3. make sure the URLs in the drop down list stay in that position, so it doesn't move up and down as you click the URLs.
    4 Does not include favourites

So basically, how to have FF3 with FF2 Address bar and functions?

It annoys me a lot that they had to change this without an easy option of switching back.

^ You can Download the OLDBar Addon to get the "Old style back". Though the favorites will still remain in the list

yeah, does seem to lag a bit.

If you install ff3 in the same directory - no. You can always export your bookmarks fromm ff2 and import them in ff3 later. Bookmarks->Organize Bookmarks..
