Thats the joy of working at the Help Desk in my company - I've got a test Vista laptop that I can pretty much beat up (we havent officially converted from XP yet, but there's a few machines with Vista in our environment). I'm going to load this up on my test machine next week and see how it goes

    Notes :-

Just attempted to download SP1 using the hack given here
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=215593.
When I downloaded 2 updates about 4 mb each and restarted, windows update said :- no new updates available.
I had to re - apply the hack, and voila, I got the SP1.
I am still downloading, will tell more about it when I complete.

Thanks to Fade to black for the hack.

I don't know, does service pack good?
i thought microsoft would say it in the automatic update, then why not do they?
i don't want to screw up the hacking and get my computer in a mess.

Using the hack here, I was able to download about 85 mb part I of the SP1. It installed successfully, then asked for a restart. Shutdown took about 7-8 minutes as it did three stage install of sP1.

Then I ran in to trouble.

Computer will not boot, it went into startup repair screen. And going on and on and on.
I manually shut it down using power button, attempted to reboot, same problem.

It did boot on third attempt.
Now I am installing second part of SP1.

    Lets see what happens.

    Thanks.

Now its downloading the second part of SP1(153 MB). 95% complete.
I think one more part is left.

I still have one question. Initially it said Release Candidate 1, Is it RTM?

No it's not RTM. But RC refresh 2 is supposedly found to be the final RTM.

RTM is the final release guys. RTM, release to manufacturing.

Microsoft wouldn't release a Service Pack that is not final to Sony, HP, etc.

    To sum this all up.

If it was not the final build, you will get that annoying watermark on the bottom of your screen saying build bla bla bla.....but you don't!

This is a very good proof it's final!

    I think so, its final.

I had the problems during installation as I told.
I noticed few things and will like to describe.

My zone alarm free firewall stopped working, so I had to reinstall it.
Start up is actually taking more time now.

    Will write more>>>>>>>>

It is final. i guess the reason it is not showing is because microsoft is planning to release it on the march. (accoring to this article). People that just upgraded could think it as a first person to get it :)

Been playing with Vista for a while. Totally loving the SP1 feel. Great response and handling. Haven't had a slow-down at all. Transferred some files from my laptop over to my external HDD and all went smoothly.

Checked with Windows Update, found no new updates. So I'm assuming my OS is up-to-date. :)

Oh, and I installed Tune-Up Utilities 2008. It's amazing at how fast windows now pop-up. :D

My only issue is with my video card driver. Getting weird pixelated dots at random times. If I move my cursor or hover a window screen near it, it disappears. Stupid Nvidia.

Well i'm well pleased, i've just installed it on my HDX which has 4GB ram, and the 32 bit vista in Computer properties (Control panel/System) now shows the full 4GB, before it showed just over 3GB.

I'm aware that windows will not use all of the Ram because it is impossible for 32bit windows, but it's nice that it now shows it.

I'm getting RC1 on my update. Refresh 2 removed the watermark, this may not be RTM according to that logic.

    Check it:

I think the normal people, even if they are having trouble with vista, should wait until it comes out officially. This hack seems legit but i don't want to risk it.

I've got my computer to loose of it doesn't work which is a big enough reason for me. As it's been said before, if it ain't broke don't fix it, and i don't wanna take my unbroken system and (possibly) break it.

If after the 2 updates WU does not install SP1, just reboot, if you still have problems, do the Command line hack again and keep on rebooting until WU sees the SP1 update, i've done it successfully 3 times this weekend on my laptops.

If your worried about messing up your system, create a system restore point first, plus make sure you have your recovery disc's just in case.

I've had no problems at all, it's improved my laptops in lots of ways.

WU showed two required updates for sp1... installed that....... then i did the command promt registry as posted in post1 and ran the update again and VOILA sp1 showed up.

    I tried 169.25 and the latest 173.65

I first thought my monitor was fooking up (dead pixels and such) but in XP there is nothing that displays this. So I'm assuming it's Nvidia and their no good drivers.. ;)
