My experience with SP1 has been mixed.
I had difficulties in installing it(already described in the post).
Now its installed well but I have noticed few new things.
1. Boot time has increased, specially it becomes black after the Microsoft green bars goes away.
2. Windows experience index has remained same at 3.4 based on the lowest score.
3. I have noticed few new hidden folders on my desktop, named Temp and QST. they have 80mb data, mainly qst files(I have no idea what they are) I deleted them all but they reappeared on reboot.
4 .My hdd now shows more space. about 5 gb more.
-
In that case, try going back to the original manufacturer drivers for you nVIDIA display card.
According to my experience, the lastest drivers that I got through windows update gave me better performance in 3DMark06 on my GeForce 7400 Go! -
1) Strange, it's faster for me now
2) Me too, why would that change if you didn't change your hardware
3) I have no hidden folders whatseoever. Those migh be related to some other profram on ur System.
4) Haven't noticed, is it? where does the 5 GB come from??
My suggestion to you. format, turn off automatic update, install drivers, appl sp1 immediately! and see the difference1 -
OT: The drivers from laptopvideo2go.com have given me better performance than either the drivers from Dell or Windows update.
-
My results:
nVIDIA Drivers / updated to the latest version via windows update = 884 3DMarks
LaptopVideo2Go Drivers = 880 3DMarks. -
A 4 point difference in 3DMark06 doesn't mean anything.
But we're getting OT.. we should be discussing SP1 registry hacks and whatnot. -
I don't trust drivers from windows update though,
once, I updated my intel graphic driver thru windows update, my machine took 1 min. more to startup,
and the problem can't be solved even after system restore, I didn't took any disk image for my machine, and finally had to do a clean install..... -
I still don't have a reason that I HAVE to hack the registry to get SP1,
my vista is running fine without it
I'll wait
-
Me too. If you see my posts earlier in this thread, you'll see that I too see no reason to hack the registry to get SP1.

But sooner or later you're going to need it.
It's like walking outside in the rain. At first you're not bothered by the wetness but as soon as the bitter cool creeps in and you feel cold and droggy.... you'll want that extra protection. -
The most important reason I'm not getting SP1 is because on the vista blog, that guy said there is still some drivers problems with vista SP1, after that bad experience stated above, I really afraid of any driver problem, don't want to bump onto it!!
-
0 driver problems here! it's perfect
-
Of course, but I'll install it when Microsoft intends for me to install it, NOT by hacking the registry.
Besides, according to Microsoft, that'll be next month sometime. I can wait one month. -
enjoy waitng for something that's already there
-
yup, if getting SP1 is open umbrella in a rainy day, then hacking the registry to get SP1 is just like open your umbrella in a sunny day, going too fast~
-
I'll spend my time waiting drinking some margaritas and on one worry-free day, Windows Update will inform me that SP1 is available for download and install, so I'll click "Install" and sit back and relax some more and reminisce about all the trouble and time I saved by not rushing headfirst into this.
-
lol
good luck then
-
I installed it. First couple of times I tried the install failed with errors. Turned out that my Vista installation was corrupt in some respects. Did an "upgrade" repair with a vista retail disk and tried again. This time it installed without errors. Enjoying SP1 now. MS fixed over 300 things with this. I don't want to wait one more day than I have to to get the benefits. The drivers issues are simply that some drivers get broken by the SP. In the event that happens to some of your drivers, all you have to do is reinstall them. No big deal. Not waiting for the SP = big deal, to me at least.

Welcome to the club d00d! Repeat after meh...
SP1 FTW
-
I've been using XP until I can do a fresh install of 64Bit Ultimate (hopefully Microsoft comes through w/ my free copy
). I'll have to try this out if I get it before the "public" release of SP1 comes out. Thanks!
-
free copy? how?
-
Probably from that "If you let us spy on you for 3 months (or some timer period) we'll give you a free copy of Vista Ultimate" offer they had. They no longer offer a free copy of Vista, but will still spy on you if you wish so
See this. -
CRAPPPPPPPPPP i missed it!!!!!!!!!! i woulodn't having them spy on me all my life
not like I'm doing anything great on my computer.

Lol. Yeah, I signed up for that too back in November or September (whenever).
Got an email last week or so saying that I've been selected for the special gift and that I would be getting it once they recorded me using their 'software' for 3 months.
It's probably going to be pre-SP1 when it finally comes in the mail.. :/ -
lucky u man
Wish I had an Ultimate License -
IMO the 2 things that Ultimate offers that would make it worth getting are the ability to do complete backups with it and the BitLocker drive encryption. Other than that, it's just Home Premium with networking features from Business thrown in.
-
Well I have that back up feature in Vista Busines, But I never use it, IMO Acronist True Image does the best job in the backup department.
And I have the DreamScene hack enabled. So I don't REALLY need it. just would be nice to have
-
Max it's called the Windows Feedback Panel, I actually scored Vista Ultimate & Office Ultimate out of the deal. I imagine they will start it up again and you'll be able to get some goodness out of it.
http://wfp.microsoft.com/
...looks like they said to try back in April =P -
oh ok thanks for the info dude
-
ya i got the same email too, signed up for it in nov or dec. Many thanks to NBR
-
welcome dude
-
I tried it, but instead of getting the RTM, I get an 88MB RC version in Windows Update.
? -
Yes thats the one, install that, it's build 6.0.6001.18000, which is the RTM version.
But only install if your happy, and if in doubt, maybe perform a backup first. -
you're getting only 88 mb coz you have insalled all the windows updates, so it deducts those from the service pack.
that's what i think -
This sounds so mean, but I wish MS adds something in the end SP1 that makes all the SP1 hackers drop their jaws and have to reinstall everything.
I want to see those FACES. MUHAHAHAHAHA. I am Evil, and you know it.
Anyways, this topic feels like a market where SP1 is being sold. I can wait a month, besides Vista is trouble free right now, just like Calvin said, there's no need to fix something that's not broken in the first place. -
What? ^^^^
-
Nothing really, just me being me, evil as always.
Oh, the market part, one person trying to persuade others to install SP1, doesn't that resemble a typical market. -

I'm having some issues trying to get SP1.
I am stuck on this particular patch. Windows Update will download and install it, but even when the computer is restarted or Windows Update re-scans for new updates, this patch keeps popping up. I thought this particular one was supposed to be 7-8MB? -
ScifiMike12 Drinking the good stuff
Is your Vista OS vLite'd? -
Not at all. Retail 64 bit Ultimate, legitimate activation.
-
ScifiMike12 Drinking the good stuff
vLite is just an editor, has nothing to do with 'counterfeit'.
Can you uninstall that update and then reinstall it afterwords? -
It's not even showing up on the list of installed updates.
I'm getting the following errors from windowsupdate.log.
-
ScuderiaConchiglia NBR Vaio Team Curmudgeon
The link they give (not yours) provides a "Forbidden" message.
Gary -
I get "The specified request cannot be executed from current Application Pool". I was just linking, i didn't check it out.
-
For those with 64 bit Vista that are having problems with KB937287 not installing and continuously coming back on Windows Update, use this standalone patch:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...49-b5db-4fe2-a841-ef938217b285&DisplayLang=en
The file size is considerably different from the 18kb one on Windows Update. -
I just need to clarify 2 things.
1. I am not able to connect to VPN using cisco VPN client after installation of SP1. Does any body know why ?
2. When I look at my installed updates, there are few cancelled ones. Should they be there ????Attached Files:
