Just installed IE8. Just installed to get on the latest update, but not going to use it. Pretty much every other browser is ahead in line before IE. :x
-
(This affects Explorer as well as IE.) -
I've always liked the click sound.

I installed IE8 on laptop and desktop, both run well with IE8, both have smooth scrolling, no problems here, both machines run Vista Ultimate X64.

I ask because, if there is anything that is putting me off IE8 right now, it is the scrolling. -

Anyone else tried the Vista snipping tool with IE8 yet?

I didn't want to start a new topic for my little problem so I was just wondering if I could get a answer here.
I normally don't use IE so I didn't worry about it being missed up, but I wanted to try out IE8, though its all messed up just like it was when I had IE7.
Really the only way to explain the problem is to show you a picture. (attached).
I'm guessing just resetting IE somehow will fix it, but I am not sure how...Attached Files:

I am using Logitech optical mouse. Scrolling seems to be fine the laptop touchpad. -

Got it downloaded from the Beta earlier today. You wont believe this one! The only web page that wont load is this web site! I have tried god knows how many others to make sure. It's just this one? It says page reload error or something like that. I had to get on FF to get here.
Any thoughts.......... -

About that scrolling thing...well, it appears that while there may other issues involved, at least one of the problems is with Setpoint. Check out this link
http://channel9.msdn.com/forums/Coffeehouse/461649-Odd-IE8-bugs/
I am using version 4.6...the newest version is 4.7x...the latter, I believe is even more problematic.
Maybe this could be the answer. I will disable Setpoint and just use Vista native mouse features and see if it works.
Well, following the discussion on that link, I killed the KHALMNPR.exe (supposedly it stands for "Kernel and Hardware Abstraction Layer"), and guess what, the scrolling is fine!!!
Now the question is should I just disable setpoint!!!
UPDATE: I uninstalled Setpoint and guess what...scrolling is 99% better in IE8!!! Now, I hope Logitech gets its act together and works out the kink...though the thing I can't understand is if the logitech exes 'hook' into windows explorer, then the problem should be with logitech and vista...but why only is the problem with logitech and IE...should it not be a problem with any browser or app on the OS? Anyways, at least I have smooth scrolling in IE now!!!!! -
Lines of flight, I do have a logitech mouse, but not using set point. I do have scrolling issues.

One thing you may want to try is to readjust the mouse properties in vista itself, which is also what I did.
Other than that, there is one other thing I also noticed. Take the NBR page as an example. I notice that when there are a lot of links on a page, scrolling on IE8 becomes choppy (yes, this is also after I uninstalled Setpoint). I still think IE8 has rendering problems and I think this is part of the problem. TBH, I am more than a little disappointed with IE8...sure Accelrators are fine n all, but in terms of core functionality and speed, I still think it falls short - way short - of my preferrred browser Opera.
I am also quite concerned about security (outside this so-called private mode). But then again, I am not very knowledgable about thse matters!
That being said, I like few accelerators that I have tried. Main among them is the Send by Gmail, which is really cool. -
IE sucks, i never use it anymore

Just curious - what are the fancy colours on the tabs for?
Do they want to tell me someting?
(they seem to change randomly....) -
davepermen Notebook Nobel Laureate
they should tell you related pages (all on notebookreview in one colour, f.e... or all the tabs you open from a page, or what ever).
similar to the way win7 colours the "buttons" in the taskbar to have the same app windows in the same colour.
i just have it installed and continue with firefox. i like to be up to date, but ie has nothing to give me that i don't have yet. still, it's nice to see improvement. i'd just love to see the gui getting cleaned up. it's really a messy spread-around of the buttons. -
Buttons... hmm... I would say it doesn't look very clean to me...
Pretty much standard IE design with favorites floating above the tabs...then plenty of space... then the menus...
I'm not too happy with it, but Firefox seems - stress seems - slow on ym Vaio, Opera has an annoying bug - IE7 was lagging... so if IE8 is OK I'll stick with it -
davepermen Notebook Nobel Laureate
how about chrome or the google-unstripped version of it? (don't remember it's name, but chrome is hella fast and snappy).
i know ie is hell in it's gui design. really terrible. i'm a programmer myself, i do even know where they're coming from. but they should get rid of where they came from. like in office 2007.
you've seen my streamlined firefox gui. something like this should be ie8. has all it's features, more space, and all the buttons and menues at the same place: left top.
and, it doesn't have unused space. i hate unused space
edit: and i said 'buttons' for that taskbar thingie-crap on win7. they're not buttons to me as they're not visually clickable. the tabs in ie8 are similar ugly (but a little less so than the ones from ie7). -
IE8 is a good improvement over IE7, but I still have to type complete URL to browse. For example, if I want to browse CNN website, I still have to type cnn.com instead of just cnn. This is a major flaw. Firefox doesn't have this problem.
And btw, where is the spell checker? -
P.S - It is not a flaw. -

Silas, Would you have any idea why I cant load NBR on IE8? All other web sites work fine. I'm stumped.......

Can you load NBR from any other browser? -

How useful are you folks finding the Accelerators? Which ones do you use? On my part, I like the Send with Gmail; Search with Google; Define with Dictionary and Define with Google; Find your items from Amazon....but that's about it...
About Web Slices (I love the term!), I have not got the hang of it yet...the best that I can figure out that it is something like an Updater of Feeds at best...It is very likely that I am wrong about this...or, maybe not! -
Period.
And I have referred to it.
Let me spell it out here:
It doesn't close the process properly - this becomes more common the longer Windows runs.
I haven't had this problem with any other browser before.
About IE8:
Is it my computer, or why does typing on NBR seen laggy in IE8 -
About IE8 - yes, it can be optimized a touch in terms of user interface... -
lineS of flight Notebook Virtuoso
And yes, there is defintely something not right about the NBR forum. Not only is there some degree of lag in typing, passwords are not saved (only on IE8) and scrolling as usual is while better than before still uneven.
Edit: Do you by any chance find that the performance of IE8 has improved over the last 12 hours or so? This is certainly the case with me. It reminds me of Vista - when you start off it is slow and as it gets to 'learn' your habits, it speeds up...not saying that this is what happens in IE8, just feels that way! -

Been running IE8 release since yesterday, without issue. There aren't any input issues that I've noticed.

IE8 has been good so far, used it with the windows 7 beta and now with the release and so far I like it. I have always used IE in combo with ie7pro and it works as well as any other browser did for me so I am just hoping they will come out with ie8pro soon.

IE 8 has more RAM usage than FF 3. And IE 8 has 3 active processes in task manager with just one window open with one tab.
IE8 Final is out...
