Nice to have you be part of the team Johnny!
I would love to join my PS3 too, but it's so old (over 5 years old now) I would not dare.
I might get some parts on the cheap in order to build a second PC though, I already have the mobo, the cpu, a couple of graphic cards and the RAM.

-
I am folding 1-2 work/day that gives me 1325points. I fold everyday unless I am on holidays.
PS3 will bring ~500points/work -
How quickly does the ps3 fold a WU?
-
-
...
-
Have you tried to exchange the fan from ps3? or have you tried to clean it from dust?
PS3 might be the cheapest folding machine but not efficient. -
I probably need to clean it, same goes for my laptop. So far the WUs I have seen for my PS3 goes for around 6 hrs.
-Tapatalk -
How are the credits like for each of the PS3's WU's?
Cheers. -
I actually have no idea.
Since I have all three systems under the same name. I will page it to JohnnyT_PS3 and see what shows up. heh.
-
Ugh, any reason why I get super tiny WU? The last one completed gave me "88.89" Credit.
Why would I even bother?
They take just as long as normal WU, but I get a fraction of the points >.> -
haha true true, So on the PS3 it doesn't show an estimated credit or a base credit rating for each of the WU's? If so just use that as a rough estimate. To save you from having to separate your usernames for each system.
Thanks Jonny T.
Cheers.
I'm not too sure how it goes about choosing or getting each WU for the SMP. It seems quite random to me most of the time. Have you set your max-packet-size to small?
I too seem to be getting quite small based credit WU's. Around like 500 - 600 credits each time. I do occassionally luck out and get a nice 3 or 4k credit WU.
Also if you are using a passkey and complete 10 SMP WU's after that you should start getting some bonus points for the SMP WU's. That should help out a bit.
Keep it up man. I know what you mean though in regards to low credits and having to wait like 8 - 10 hours just to complete something which will net you next to nothing.
Hopefully we can optimise our folding on each system close to its max potential that way we don't need so many client's running. I've actually lost quite a few folding client's over the last few days however with better efficiency and proficiency I have managed to make up the credits. + luck of course LOL!
Cheers.

Thank yew!
.
I figured out once I have the machine how I want it (22k ppd usually), just leave it.
Side note: Chief, how come ya only have 22.5GB usable out of 28GB, and why not just go for the full 32?
Jason -
Well made it home and sure enough my system was frozen for the last two day fans running
hopefully no damage. Back up and folding on my R2. Also edited my sig
Hopefully the mods don't beat me. I believe it's within regulations.
-
My PS3 worked on one WU for about 6 hours and gave 251 credits.
Thats pretty meh. -
Yea, I thought the PS3 was a lot better than that. Eh, at least I have my M17x R2 back on line.
-
-
Yeh I'm not too sure why it's only showing that 22.5GB RAM is useable. When I had 24gb installed it didn't show any messages. I'll most likely just bring it back down to 24gb.
I only have 28gb atm because I only bought 3 sticks of 8gb DDR3 ram LOL.
The 3rd stick I added in the other day because I decided to buy the last stick at my local store. It was $70 bucks so I said ahh why not lol.
Gee I want to get more of these WU's It took like 1/2 a day to complete but it was worth it lol! SMP credits FTW. It looks like I lucked out with that WU because now I'm just getting the normal small 600 - 700 credit ones.
Are you guys getting similar or better credits per SMP WU?
Cheers.Attached Files:

BTW, how did you get that monster WU chief?
Jason -
No idea hey I came back yesterday and had a quick look at the folding console. Bammm i saw the 10k credits and I was like WHOA
Thats how I managed 22k in 3 hours on the last KAKOA stats update from yesterday.
Somehow it randomly gave me that nice unit. I also have mine set to fetch max-packet-size small. That made it even more surprising. Heck I didn't question it though.Which is what it is mainly doing now (small WU credits)
. Hopefully I can get more 10k Credit SMP WU's in the near future

Maybe DR's folding buddy in the other forums can shed some light on how I was able to obtain that nice SMP WU.......?
Or even better yet how we can set out consoles to do so in the future.
Cheers. -
Today should be my first day of decent production in a while
R2 should be up and folding.
Also looks like Anonymous is back to foldingSomone needs to get an ID and Pass key!

Cheif, Have you seen a production increase in your GPUs as a result of going to SMP6 from SMP 8? I'm running SMP8 right now, debating on changing back to SMP6 to free up some CPU to feed the GPUs. I guess I'll have to test it out. Theoretically the GPUs should work faster with SM6 because the CPU will be free to feed the GPUs. But then again it takes longer for the CPU to complete a WU due to less threads so I'm wondering if the trade off is worth it. I just need the time to test each for a week at a time. -
Slightly offtopic
I made a team for this forum to grid in world community grid. Could some people here who fold with their cpu change to gpu folding and use their cpu to gird.
I grid with my cpu and fold with my gpu.
Sorry for being offtopic
Thanks -
Good to hear your R2 is back up and running/folding!
To tell you the truth, changing the SMP from 8 to 5 or 6 or any lower number seems to have actually aided and benifited my overall credit production. I'm not sure how but it seems that it has directly impacted and improved my SMP folding production. I haven't noticed any real change in GPU folding performance. Everything seems exactly the same on that front. It might have actually been the fact that I removed the bigger WU's and added max-packet-size small.
Perhaps you can show your Folding forum buddy my example of the 10k credit SMP WU and see if he can assist us in setting our consoles up to fetch more chunky SMP WU's like that one. For some reason my SMP WU credits are much better than what they used to fetch in terms of credits per WU for the SMP.
I might boost my SMP back to 8 in the coming days to see what happens.
I was also surprised at how the PS3 performed in terms of folding. It looks like our Core i7s have come quite a long way since the Cell processor days.
Time to try and hunt down another 10kcredit SMP WU to fold
Hoping to see you join the Half a MILLION Club later tomorrow.
Cheers. -
What exactly is Grid?
Also looks like Gaz and I have the exact same number of WUs complete -
3 ganzonomy 524099 569
4 DR650SE 476363 569
Yup how is this Grid different than our team folding atm? Do they count more or Only CPU's or something to add to create a super computer?
DR I edited and added to my post up above as well. If you can check that out BRO!
I'm going to try max-packet-size normal next.
Cheers. -
Search for world community grid in this section.
Thanks and sorry for the offtopic post -
Ahh ok, I'll have to look into grid.
Cheif, I wonder if there is a min-packet-size option as I know there is max-packet-size.Maybe
I'll post over at F@h support this evening.

Here are some things that I put in my sig. I don't know much about editing the options for colors though. I've played with it, but without a guide it's kinda hit and miss. This chart actually auto updates. So in my sig it should be within the last few hours. I think extremeoverclocking updates about every 3 hours like Kakao Stats. When it does update, the image in my sig updates as well.
To change the colors you can change the bold on the second image address. I havn't found anything that looks goodI put this in the original post under the stats links, but thought I'd put it here in case any one was interested. To put it in my sig I created a https://bitly.com/ url so it's a lot smaller and can still fit in my sig

Took the idea from this site. -
Ugh, I still get super small credit for the WU I complete, I saw you talked about the SMP and a passkey.
I have no idea what are those, what should I do?
EDIT: Found out what the passkey was, and it is now activated. -
-
was going to throw this out.

GPU is probably the alzheimer's units for 1385. The problem I had was that even though i'd get 8k GPU PPD, i'd lose 11k SMP PPD. When you set up the v7.1.43, pick SMP and GPU for your GTX 570 rig (it's fast enough), and then you SHOULD be getting about 25 to 30k ppd combined. With the 2700k alone, you should be getting about 28k to 30k ppd so long as you don't touch it.
-
-
Thanks ganzonomy, I am setting it up now.
+1 to you.
EDIT:
How can I select SMP for my GTX? When I try to add another SMP in the folding slot it simply loads another one from my i7.
Ugh. -
The GTX should have it's own GPU slot. SMP is only for processors.
Sidenote: Anyone running F@h in Linux? I recently reinstalled my OS and have not yet had time to create my Linux Mint partition. If I do I may run F@h from my Mint partition. Just curious to know if anyone else out there was running F@h on Linux. -
-
I'm just thinking with Linux, there would be less resources being used by the O/S so it may shave a few min off some of the number crunching. Probably nothing noteworthy, but every little bit helps. I may try and mess with Virtual Machines though. Never really messed with them. Not sure what I would gain from playing with them though
But I have always been interested. Guess I really have no need for them, but why not learn more?
-
Regards -
apparently linux FAH machines make insane ppd. Don't know why though. Also, thierry, you have to do TEN SMP WUs with the passkey before you get big points.
Jason -
Then I may try the linux partition. One reason may be because Linux uses less resources? So more resources can be focused on folding?
Perhaps. We'll see. Doubt I get many more points but it's worth a shot. Plus I enjoy messing around with Linux, even though I don't need it, don't know much about it, and don't do much with it
-
I wish there was one for BSD
. I happen to LOVE PCBSD, but I don't know if it works nicely with SSDs
Jason -
Under the downloads section it shows.
Linux (x86) and BSD *combined uniprocessor (CPU) and SMP2 client* (64-bit build)
EDIT: Ahh ok see what your saying ;o -
My PS3 gets 251/WU, same as Thierry.
-
Top 1300! .
-
5000 WU's should be up soon too!
Awesome it looks like my fishing line has hooked me another small whale. It looks to be the same one as last time. It's going to take like 1whole day to complete but it should be worth it.
That should make up for the 3hrs downtime I had before
Cheers.Attached Files:

Nice! Are you running with max-packet-size small" on SMP and still getting that? I need to get some of those! Though I'm sure it' would take a lot longer since I don't have a sandy bridge chip. At least it looks like my R2 is folding well.
But I got up this morning and my system had restarted during the night. I think a BSOD. Once I get my linux partition I'm hoping to not have any such issues. But at least I have F@H set to start upon boot and begin folding, so even if it does restart, it gets back to folding quickly. -
PHEW! Touch wood LOL!
Actually as part of my experimentation I have removed everything. Except for on the GPUs. I have client-type advanced on the GPUs only. Every other setting I have since removed earlier today.
I noticed that my other T420 (less powerful machine compared to a M18x) was pulling in some quite decent sized fish all the time. However the M18x was only getting these measly small fry. Mind you it takes like 3hrs to crunch the small fish on the M18x while it takes close to 1 day on the T420 i5 CPU.
So I have decided to try and go back to basics. I've removed all the extra advanced settings in the expert tab and on the SMP slot.
Hopefully I can catch more whales next time as well.
Luckily I too have folding to automatically startup after a BSOD or unforseen restart. Only 15 secs for a reboot before its back up and folding. So not too much down time
I really do wonder though what the criteria is to pull one of these small whales down?
Any word or advice back from your folding forum buddy?
I guess I wouldn't mind pulling one of these down every few SMP WU's ...............
Cheers. -
Nice. Defiantely let me know how it turns out with removing everything. I have small for everything, and also have it set to download the next WU when the current WU hits 90% completion, this way it can jump straight into the next unit. I may see how my 24hr numbers turn out, and then remove everything and see how that goes. I just have some weak systems folding so I had them set to small (M11x and Inspiron 1720)
The R2 is also set to small. Well see how it works. Not sure if it's better to have one large unit /day, or multiple small ones. We'll see.
-
Yeh I'm not really too sure. Looking over the last few days in terms of my KaKoa Stats. The big WU saved me a couple of days ago, pumping out 22k in the last 3hr time slot. The day before I basically accumulated the same amount of points with out it as well though.
I have noticed though on my systems with AMD gpu's which also happens to be systems with better speced CPUs that the WU's take much longer to complete, give a higher credit rating as compared to my systems with Nvidia GPUs which pump out small credits every few hours. It gives me a good mixture to a mass some small credits to add to each 3 hour Kakao stat window. Without the nvidia credits I would not be making much credits in the short term windows thats for sure.
I need somemore Nvidia GPU systems to gain me some more quick creditslol.
Oh yeh the small whale WU i just caught has a 25 day deadline. So completing it within 1 day should be good enough!
It's actually quite good too because I can make use of the system to play MW3, FIFA 12 and watch blu ray movies all at the same time the machine is folding full bore.
These SB chips are quite awesome for multitasking!
BTW 5, 000 WU's completed! Well done TEAM!

Oh yeh DR I have also changed the Checkpoint interval from 15 mins to 20 mins. It reckons that the smaller the time interval impacts on performance so I figured okay I'll just increase the time interval to 20 minutes for checkpoints so that maybe it can boost performance a little and fold a little more before having to check in with the misses
I know it's risky if the system BSODs however I'll take the risk lol.
Dan you should be hitting the half Million later today as well. Then you can pump out those fist pumping smiles that you normally put on show when you break a new benching record!
WooT!
Cheers. -
