Go to the original post and d/l the v7 beta. That should set things up. Also be sure to get a passkey so you can get some bonus points once you have 10 workunits complete.
Once it loads and recognizes your GPU's and CPU, in the config section you'll want to add the following slot options.
For each GPU put "client-type advanced"
for the CPU you'll want to do "max-packet-size small"
This way you can complete 10 small WU's faster and then do regular Work units for bonus points.
The original post should have some better instructions and screen shots.
Just be sure to monitor temps as F@h is more intense then wPrime, so overclocks may need to be backed down to prevent failing Work Units. -
I'll get it all set up when I get home
Thanks for the rep
-
Still getting ridiculously cheap WU.
The base credit is 106 or 88, but with the bonus I can work it up to 600/700.
Good thing my GPU has decent credit. -

Been trying to get F@h loaded on My Linux mint partition but having issues with itI'll try again tommorrow night.

An absolutely woeful day of folding today.
I give up for today
lol. I just got back and nothing was working
It is soo so hot down here atm, the net is frozen, PC's keep freezing and bsoding.
Whatever that is left alive and still folding I will leave ongoing. The rest I will get back to it maybe tomorrow.

500K for DR650SE! -
I feel your pain. Apparently I had an older version of Linux Mint. I'll have to give it another shot tonight. Hopefully I can get it working. I think since it will be a fresh Linux install, it will be a lot more stable than Win 7. I hope anyway. I just need too find a tool to monitor GPU load and temps. But pretty much F@h is going to be the only thing on the Linux partition. -

I will be adding an M18x to the folding lineup soon. It only has an i7-26xx CPU and a single 560M though.
And Congratulations DR650!
For those who aren't aware (and didn't see the first page), DR650 is the one who started all of this and also started our NBR Folding Team. -
Thanks Turbo,
So your picking up a toned down 18x? Still keeping the R2 or trading up? -
Just advice.

We should hit the 1250 place with the next update.
I should get the 5th place as well, and now I'm onto DR650SE
I'm considering building another to use as a multimedia center on my TV, but something powerful enough to get some point at folding. I just have to make sure it won't cost me too much. I pretty much only need a HDD and a power supply. -
Nice thierry! Ill be losing one of my folding systems so that will hurt, but i have a desktop mobo and some chips Id like to use. Just need everything else like ram psu gpu ect.
-
Thanks!
I just bumped my max frequency to 4GHz, my temps were too low.
It is now stable at ~50/60 degrees. -
I have been running my 2500k @ 4.0GHz this whole time! On stock cooler!
-
Those Sandy Bridge chips are very stable! I could probably have it running at 4.5Ghz on my air cooler, but I don't see the needs. And I am just too lazy to bother finding the right core voltage and stuff.
-
I'm ready to give up trying to instal F@h on Linux. Too much of a headache.
Well had to pull the plug on my Inspiron 1720 which I'm lending to my brother. So I'm going to be losing some points most likely. Don't worry though, I have F@h still installed, and it autostarts minimized and runs lowest priority. So I may just leave it like that. I know he does nothing GPU intensive on it so thats good. We'll see. Maybe I'll have a change of hear and uninstall it.
Also my R2 seemed to be having issues uploading work units. It looked like a server issue. Hopefully it will resolve itself and get back to folding. I'll be going out of town this weekend (again) so won't have acess to it except from my phone via remote access. I really need to work on getting some desktop parts -
I wish things will go better with your R2!
I finally got through the small credit WU! The WU my cpu is currently running has a base credit of 600 credits, but the estimated credit is over 4k -
Hopefully the GPU swaps are just plug and play.
Your going to love folding on your new system. It is quite epic!
Okay peeps I'm back and am now going to get these systems back up and folding properly I hope.
DR it seems removing everything has worked out quite well.
Especially for the SMP slot. It pulls down quite nicely sized WU's now. It does seem quite random however I get quite a good mixture from small to medium and the occassion bigger whale as you have seen a couple of times now.
I just need to fix up the heat and BSODing and I should be back up and running stable again. Perhaps after some BF3 and MW3 LOL!
Cheers.
Those are pretty much the credits I am getting now as well for most of the SMP WU's. I'm sure we can probably optimise it even more to get higher credits and bigger WU's but for now this should be okay. Whats the estimated rough time of completion for those SMP WU's man?
Any news or response from your Folding forum guy DR?
Cheers. -
Well I am at 53% the ETA is in more than 2 hours, so I will say roughly 4hours for this WU?
Not so bad, given I was getting about 600 credits for the WU that took about 90 minutes¡ -
With this new credit boost per SMP WU and your CPU running at 4.0GHz + speeds 24/7 your going to hit the Half a Million mark in no time oles!
Cheers. -

I stumbled upon this; How to set up a dedicated Folding@Home box with Ubuntu Icrontic
It might help you setup your Linux OS for folding.
Cheers.
Your going to be pleasantly surprised about the fan noise compared to the R2.
So when is your M18x expected to land?
Good news I managed to stop the BSODing and freezing. The thunderstorms have also stopped now. So back to folding! The only worrying thing coming up this week is the 40 degree Celcius days all week.
Cheers. -
-
Yup we've got AC however even with it on it is no match for the heat and especially the high humidity over here atm.
Cheers. -
That's why I recommended one. I think she had one from Bosch.
-
Congrats on two million chief! That's a lot of folding!
-
Much Appreciated! I'll be losing most of my systems for folding in the coming weeks so I better make the most of it right now and accumulate as much as I can
Keep up the folding revival DR! It looks like you have a shot/glimmer of hope to pull back 3rd spot.
Also it looks like Thierry Henry is on the rise after getting his pass key and completing 10 WU's to start getting bonus points. He will be 2nd in no time!
Wow you guys should see this weeks TEMPs for the daily forecast
38 - 40 - 40 - 39 - 40 - 42 - 39

Update on scores:

Thanks for the kind words reborn!
My computer is folding 24/7 now, I can have a dozen of tabs open in chrome and a full screen video playing while folding and it does not even slow down. -
Man, makes me hungry for a desktop. Wish I had one
-
I will and then I will have hopefully hexa or octa core since I grid with my cpu and fold with the gpu. I think the performance spectrum between desktop and latop will decrease since everything is shrinking and you get more stronger units in laptops. I am thinking especially of the cpu performance; intel offers desktop cpu are offered at 35W TDP, like in a laptop
-
Sorry I haven't been folding as much. I need my new Sager for my new job, so the old one has been folding 24/7. It will stay that way for the time being. I also had to upgrade mom's inspiron m5030, and that was NO picnic (3GB to 8GB). Hopefully from time to time I can release the NP8130 just to get quick bursts of bonus points.

Hmm... I'm considering bringing up my old desktop to campus next month to aid my folding efforts. It's definitely not a powerhouse (eMachines T6412), though I'm thinking it'll give me a few hundred or maybe a thousand extra points a day. Specs are:
AMD Athlon 64 3400+ (2.2GHz, 512KB L2)
ATI Radeon Xpress 200 128MB GPU
384MB DDR 400 RAM
200GB IDE HDD
Any suggestions on low-cost improvements that I could look into? Upgrading the CPU wouldn't work since a Socket 939 CPU chip is stupid expensive (~$140+) and CPUs don't give much on return compared to GPUs. Not sure what to look for, however. -
Get a decent cpu cooler and overclock this thing until it dies!
You could probably buy a used 8800GTX for ~50 bucks if you know where to search! -
Just curious, but looking on F@H's guide, there's no support for GPU folding on Linux? The desktop runs Ubuntu 10.10.
-
-
I had issues trying to get it to run on Linux Mint and Ubuntu. I don't understand Linux at all,, so if your able to do, I would appreciate it if you could walk me through it. I just don't have much patience I guess.
I think I got the Client to install, but with that, you don't have acess to the console to change things. And the Console with everything, I couldn't get to install at all.if only it was easy like windows.
But from the looks of it, V7 should have GPU support. But I couldn't get it to work. Chief posted some guides that I might try and read/decipher later on. -
I wouldn't hold my breath though since I haven't played with Ubuntu in forever and I'd have to read some of the how-to guides for using it again -
I may read it tonight or tommorrow and try to follow it.
Sidenote: Yay for me!600003 pts! 600K baby! I'm in the club!

I will soon have my 20k

It looks like we have a new up and comer!
Brother Ayle has been pumping out some awesome credits the past few days. Heck he has even pumped out more than the Chief!LOL!
Kakao Stats - Production History - Ayle + REP!
What specs machines have you got folding Ayle? Any special folding settings?
Awesome stuffs Ayle! Keep it up. It looks like your destined for the top 4 in no time!
Cheers. -
_2500k + HD6950
_655K + Dual GTX 460
_2700k + GTX 560
The 655 is only gpu folding since it's a demo machine at work and the cpu is needed for VLC video playback. I'll have a Phenom II 840(soon to be upgraded to 8120) + 9800GT + GT240(soon to be upgraded to GTS/X 450/460) joining those 3 soon... As far as special settings, nothing done on that front. I do use a passkey on all the machines which apparently gives you some bonus points in SMP rendering. -
Man that is awesomes, great folding power from those rigs you got there. So all your machines are Desktops. Geee...... glad your on our team
Brilliant stuffs. We can count on you to be our new Chief point getter soon then.
Cheers. -
Pretty impressive power you have there Ayle!
If the team can keep the beat for about 4 days, we should break through the top 1000 teams!
Depending on how busy I turn out to be tomorrow, I might set-up a second computer as well. Although I might very well be lazy and postpone it.
EDIT: 1400th post! -
-
I'm afraid I will be stealing your 4th place in a few hours/days :S
I got everything I needed to set-up my second computer, but I need a 4 pin power adapter to make it all work. Blame the cheap PSU I bought.
It's not a big deal, just an i5 750 and a 8800GT.
