I have got a question for you guys running vista 64 bit. Does the divx codec work under vista x64 (thus allowing you to view videos encoded with it in windows media player)? If not then what do you suggest I use?

I think I am going to try vista business x64 this weekend and I was just wondering...

Well XP X64 wasn't really meant for home usage. It was more of a developement / x64 testing platform so that's why.

Evolution, I think there is a 64 bit version of K-Lite, otherwise the normal is working fine for me (dunno which I have downloaded now lol)

i would not call it a testing platform.

i have used xp 32 / 64 vista 32 / 64 and have tested server 2008 as a workstation os, and for me xp 64 is actually the best and most stable windows version i have used so far. i use it for production / 3d modeling / 2d content creation ( photoshop, illustrator, indesign, acrobat 3d, flash) and i have had the least problems ever with a windows OS.
    (2 thumbs up for xp 64) ;)

the only problem i have to face is the missing printer drivers.

I have a question for you x64 users and I feel like I've been cluttering the forum with questions lately so I'll post this one in here:

Is there any free program that works similarly to Axcrypt but supports x64? Axcrypt requires you to use the x86 version of explorer.exe... yuck. Does anybody here use encryption with an interface as non-cumbersome as Axcrypt's?

Yeah, you're right. I'm like you, though. I don't know how to use it either. I've actually heard that the 3rd party stuff, like TrueCrypt, is better.

I'm enjoying 64bit computing for the first time with my new gateway 6860. Haven't really had any compatibility issues with anything that I use. Except for Star Wars Empire at War: Forces of Corruption.

Hi guys! Has any of you been playing PES2008 on Vista64? Do you have all resolutions avaiable? My 8510p can work at 1680x1050 max but I do not have it in selection from settings for PES? I used to play in that resolution, back on Vista 32.
Any suggestions? Drivers are lates Catalyst 8.6 modded with DH Mod Tool

Destiny, I have played that game, but I don't have the resolution available (your resolution). However, can't you "create" that resolution in some .ini file?

Other than that one (which will probably not work) I am not sure, but can't you manually enter the resolution? Somehow there must be a way. Ask the Pro Evolution Soccer forums.

I am currently running Vista Home Premium x32, is it possible to switch to x64 Home Premium without purchasing it, like trading it in to MS? Or could I just purchase and upgrade to Ultimate x64?

    Thanks

32-bit Vista licenses apply to 64-bit versions of Vista. So, theoretically, you can switch between Home Premium x86 and Home Premium x64 using the same license. However, there is a catch (somewhat).

If you have an 32-bit OEM license, you cannot obtain 64-bit media from Microsoft. While you can use your license to activate Vista (see this), you will need to find a 64-bit install disk.

If you have a retail copy of 32-bit Vista, you can purchase a 64-bit backup (read: reinstall) disk from Microsoft here: http://www.windowsmarketplace.com/content.aspx?ctId=444

Destiny, what's meaning that you have a 8510p mobile workstation (8510w mod)? Only for fireglv5600 card? Or any extra? Do you have soft-firegl card working on vista?

    Thank you.

Hehe :) It's only XP 64 that I need the power of FireGL :) So my Vista runs on normal drivers for gaming :)
Ive been actually playing Top Spin 2, on XP 64 with FireGL drivers, but this game is fairly old but still has good graphics. Works very well :)
There is nothing extra I have.

After a week of testing and research I have finally installed vista business x64. I have not had any driver problems and all of my programs work just fine even rmclock is working fine with its 64bit signed driver.

Now all I need to do is finish the windows updates and then I will be creating a full backup of my C partition(using the built in tool in vista) and storing it on my external drive incase I need a "fresh install" :).

I noticed that support for Vista x64 is "limited"...what can't you do anymore?

There is no update to RMclock that will give you the signed 64bit driver I just happen to have found a signed rtcore64.sys driver :).

Hey guys, I'm getting Vista Home Premium 64bit on Dual Boot with XP Pro in a week or so, and I wonder is 64bit a bigger improvement performance wise over 32bit? I know finding drivers and software to support it is something to think about but I don't know what the other differences are!

I thought all Vista's could use 4GB, or am I mistaken? I know 64bit can use 16GB or something! If someone could clarify I would greatly appreciate it! :D

I was using RMClock for quite a while but I had to have Atsiv load things up at boot time...but now it works w/o anyworkarounds.

You are clearly using some kinda hack that I don't know about :). The file I upped is a signed file which vista 64 bit requires, no further work arounds are needed if you have that signed file.
The only other way to get rmclock to work on 64bit vista as I remember was to use atsiv.exe work around as the original disable signed driver checking doesn't work after sp1.

Alright, add me to the list of x64 Vista users. I have a couple of questions though.

    1. I have to Program Files folders, one Program Files and one Program Files (x86), does that mean that some programs are only running in 32 bit mode and taking full advantage of 64 bit?

    2. I am having some problems with my Upek fingerprint scanner. I downloaded the x64 drivers from their website and they install but no program is available to enter my prints into.

#2...I've seen that issue 3 or 4 times on the forums, though I've never had to deal with it. Use the search and I'm sure you'll find it.
