I have checked RMClock website while changing to full 64 bits and read the cooling central topic, especially Flipfire's guid to RMClock where th 64 bit signed driver was listedThat was the only hack

Has anyone else had trouble with HWMonitor not seeing your GPU with 64 bit Vista?
-
hmmm, it works on my lappy at home. Do you "run as admin"?
-
Yeah, it was working is 32 bit but not now in 64 bit.
I haven't been able to bring my temps down either no matter how low I go on voltage. This happened in 32 bit as well. -
I expect you're referencing to using RMClock or another program. This doesn't undervolt your GPU but your CPU.
Which are you referring to? -
Sorry about the confusion, two separate issues.
1. When using the undervolting guide and the recommended HWMonitor for temps in 64 bit my GPU does not show up, it did in 32 bit.
2. When using the undervolting guide both in 32 bit and 64 bit Vista I am unable to lower my temps. Not a 64 bit issue that I know of just was throwing it out there. I will post in the Undervolting guide once I have more data.
Thank you -
Alright there you go...
I actually had this signed driver myself for a few months now but I didn't bother to post it on the forum, since I was still using 32bit vista. -
AFAIK the Undervoltiing guide shouldn't help you lower GPU temperatures, but CPU temperatures...
correct me if I am amiss =) -
Yeah I know, I am just wondering why my GPU isnt showing up and if anyone else was having the same problem.
Guess I need to be more clear in my questions,
-
Not sure if anyone has seen this article. Good press for x64!

Interesting read. The follow-up article about Adobe Flash and 64-bit is also interesting. Thanks for posting!
-
Interesting = good for us (hopefully).
However, I think that at least somewhere (another article, same writer) where he said that x64 is not worth it under 4GB of RAM the writer is wrong. Memory consumption doesn't mean much to performance (at least a small difference). I've had Vista x64 with 1GB of RAM and even though it wasn't all great (1GB is not great for anything but XP) it worked. With 2GB of RAM everything is working fine (though I haven't used Vista x86 at all, ever). -
I'm with you Fade...from my experience,I think that x64 just feels better. I am using Vista Business x86, and it's so choppy and slow...it gets on my nerves more than once a day =\
When I had 2GB of RAM on my x64 setup at home, it flew MUCH faster than this rig I'm working on right now...and this lappy has a better processor on it too.
So, there you go, FWIW. -
what a way to spend a day read the whole thread all 67 pages!!!!
so im safe to use a friends Vista Home Prem. 64 bit cd and then switch keys to a 32 bit home prem.
other than that most of my questions have been answered / bookmarked for later use. Cant wait to get laptop back from servicing -
Yes, indeed. The installation part is mostly all covered. Hopefully other people will read or search for the important bits, so they will not create a thread or more ever week asking the same questions.

Yupp x64 is amazing.

I have successfully installed Vista Ultimate X64 in my Sony FZ4000, but Im having trouble finding the following drivers.
1. Intel ICH8M LPC Interface Controller - 2815.
2. Marvell Yukon 88E8036 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Lex -
Try Marvell's page and Intel's page. I have found some drivers on Marvell's page right now.
I've also edited the list on the main page. -

I'm using x64 ulitimate , i notice that in IE 64 flash player is not supported, sorry if this already post cause did not go through also to all the 67 pages,

I have a problem with FF3 on x64 Vista and Quicktime. Whenever I open embeded video (e.g. apple.com/trailers), the video opens but the control bars are all black. the controls are there though, b/c if I click on the very left where the volume control usually is, the volume control bar pops up.
put the whole bar is still black. I googled around a little and it seems that quicktime simply does not have any support whatsoever under x64. I have even tried QT alternative, but with the same result.
is there any solution to this? how can I play embeded videos and enjoy control over them?
thanks
-
Actually it is Adobe Flash not supporting 64-bit.
http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=6b3af6c9&sliceId=2
You can run the 32-bit version of IE7 to see the Flash content. -
I actually have a similar issue with another one of our favorite Apple Software specialties.
Whenever I open Itunes sometimes everything is mostly black, once i minimize and maximize again, I can see all as usual.
Turns out it's not an x64 issue, as my buddy has the same behavior on his Vista x86 install. -
I just avoid Apple software entirely. Much better.
Who uses Quicktime anyway? apple.com... and hardly anyone else. If I really want to watch the Apple ads for some reason, wait a few days and they'll show up in flash format on YouTube.
I try to avoid Adobe software too... but unfortunately I can't avoid running Flash. It's just used in way too many web pages. -
thanks for the tip. but I am more interested in ways how to fix the problem to be able to watch e.g. trailers on apple page. Your advice is more like saying to a person with a broken car to go to work by foot. I want to fix my "car" :-D
-
Sure. It's just that I realized that for me, the "problem" wasn't really a problem after all. Maybe in your case it's different, I don't know.
But the rest of the web outside of apple.com uses Flash anyway. IMO, if you like the Apple ads so much that you just have to see them the first day they come out... get a Mac.
-
man, you and your apple ads. I never mentioned it once, and yet you keep repeating it. I want to be able to watch movie trailers, that are usually first published on apple.com/trailers
I dont care about ads, or mac.... -
Oh I see. I assumed you meant their ads. I didn't know they had trailers for movies on apple.com.

i have dell inpiron 1520 and using 64bit vista
now i want dual boot 64bit vista and 64bit xp
is this possible ?
and who using x64 xp
have a problem ? -
My Xp 64 somtimes comes out of sleep with video resolution changed. I had this problem and solution before I went to Vista 64 (now I'm back with XP 64), but I've forgotten what the solution is. I'll look again when I have more time, but overall, if you can get all the drivers you need for your hardware, XP64 is as awesome as any other OS out there.
-
But now that Vist SP2 is coming out soon
that should be better
hoping it will be so
what do you think ? -
I agree. I think Vista64 is a tad better than XP 64. I never had any problem with Vista64 like I have in XP64, although, it is a very small problem.
-
Into the future, Vista x64 will be superior. More vendors are starting to bring x64 into the mainstream, but mostly apps built for Vista.
-
Vista x64 is easier to use because of its driver support. Finding drivers for XP x64 is a royal pain in the ***.
-
True, but if you can get the drivers for both, there's really not much problem in XP64.
-
Right, but you still have to find them

I guess I can post in here since I use Vista Home Premium x64

Notice how more and more notebooks are shipping with 4GB or more (Asus G71...6GB!!!), its necessity or more of a marketing gimmick (my notebook has more RAM then yours). I've been enjoying x64 and have discovered the wonders of virtualbox to run older versions of windows, if I ever find something that doesn't run in x64 environment.
*EDIT* I use Vista x64 on my primary systems (main desktop Ultimate and notebook Business), love it! On my older systems I run XP or Linux based OS. -
w00t! Chalk one up for the good guys!
+1 =^] -
Not sure what all the issues are with xp x64. Ive been running it since 2005 and have had ZERO issues -- except when my soundcard failed, but a trip to Frys fixed that.
At first a few of the things I used didnt have x64 drivers (color software for my samsung monitor was the first), but thats since changed. Almost everywhere I go there are 64-bit installs for the software and drivers I use. Folding @ home is the only one yet to catch up
I unpacked my Thinkpad T500 with vista x64 this monday and so far so good. The 4GB of ram appears to be money well spent. -
i would like to join as well
whats virtualbox? and also i was wondering about something i have a lot of old games on cd: need for speed high stakes, hot pursuit, who wants to be a millionare, monopoly etc. but i have a vista 64 bit machine is there anyway to get the games to work?
-
Try you games, if they work they work.
VirtualBox is a program to emulate a PC in your PC and allows you to install an OS on it. This is great if you wanna emulate say a 16 bit OS on a 64 bit machine. Only real down side thus far, no graphics acceleration, then again I haven't had to look to hard yet (wanted to see Ubuntu pretty effects). I'm going to install Windows ME on my notebook in a virtualbox to play around with older programs on the weekend. -
i have tried it and it hasnt worked at all it gives me an error saying the install isnt 64 bit compatible so i was wondering is there a way around it?
-
There is a 64bit install (amd64), that's the one I use.
-
what do u mean?
-
What he is saying is that the install software that you tried is probably not the 64-bit one. The 64-bit virtualbox installer is the one that you should use. The description for the file should say for amd64 compatible.
-
This is the installer for Any Windows 64Bit OS
http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/2.0.4/VirtualBox-2.0.4-38406-Win_amd64.msi -
and this will let me play my 32 bit install games?
-
Yep , its just 64bit version of the VirtualBox and there is no big difference between the 32bit or 64bit versions. Both should allow you to install Windows XP, thru which you can play non-3d 32bit Games
-
Non 3-D being the operative word. Digging around for my old copy of Windows ME, can't seem to find it.
