Do you guys know if NOD32, photoshop CS2, and CCleaner are 64-bit compliant?
-
I've heard CS3 has problems, I'd imagine CS2 is the same, but not sure.
-
CCleaner is a definate yes. Ive installed quite alot of programs and so far all my 32bit programs work perfectly fine except for RMclock
-
Nod32 is compatible with vista 64-bit just make sure you purchase the x64 version. As for Adobe CS2 .. im not sure but im using CS3 and have no problems.
-
Ok, I appreciate the answers.
-
Just for the record, and this is probably a bit off topic...
The next version of Windows needs to be 64bit ONLY. -
-
Greg's right. But I would hate it to be in a 32 bit flavor by 2011 (almost 7 years since they've released XP x64). You'd have to be an idiot to install the x86 version then (if they will release it). Microsoft is full of idiots and we can all see that.
-
1) Make Windows 7 64-bit ONLY.
2) Include (for free) a copy of Microsoft Virtual PC with a XP image installed (not Vista, too resource demanding with W7 installed AS WELL). Also suggested is that MS make all USB devices and the current GPU available to the guest OS (VMWare allows for USB 2.0 passthru, MSVPC currently does not) to allow for the "ultimate" in backwards compatibility.
Gee, I just solved all of MS's problems and even old hardware will continue to work with the OS. -
Interesting idea you have there Greg.
-
At least the Server version of W7 will be x64 only.
-
SP2 for WS08 will be x64 only...
-
OK, edited that list again.
Anyone else wanna join? -
If SP1 can make Vista stop eating my hdd space and give me better performance, I`ll forgive the ancient sin and embrace Vista x64 again . Until then...well dual boot
-
uhh me. add me to the list.
-
OK, sure thing.
-
Y my Name not on there
-
Not I know do.

I have my laptop being delivered tomorrow and for sure im convinced to go for vista 64X but i dont have any experience with vista ( actually i hate it) but now ive decided that with my new laptop i will give a hard try with vista and being 64X also... HOWEVER i dont really know much about vista and 64X things... i just know basic things and things you can find in this forum but for sure im interested to have a section in this forum or a sub-section with windows 64X related topics...
I give all my support for that... unfortunately i dont know much thing about vista and 64x so i wont be able to help sorting out eventually problems but well i will help as i can...

Hey beto, this might save you some searching (I just copied it from a recent response to another x64-bound warrior):
I recommend following this guide (make sure your load the AHCI drivers BEFORE installing, it will save much headache). Most of the drivers you'll need will be linked here:

For Video Card drivers go here (make sure you use the modded .inf):

Hey beto, I posted the wrong link for Installing Vista x64 clean (I'm about to reinstall myself). Here is the link I intended, thorough and up to date:

They are too lazy (or don't wanna spend money) developing their software for a 64-bit platform when it only accounts for like 1% or less of market share in the Windows platform.
They have to spend a lot of money re-coding their software to take advantage of 64-bit addressing however why bother if they are making a tidy profit off the existing 32-bit platform.
Microsoft could make Win7 64 only but what business would purchase a software platform that was not 100% compatible with their existing software.....Microsoft's only choice is to drip-feed the 64-bit platform into the market and yeah it will prob be more like 2012 before it is competing with 32-bit.
I say we just jump to 128-bit with Win7, pull some teeth and take our pc's into the next generation! -
-
I installed Vista HP x64 on my latest build and was pleasantly surprised. I was hesitant to jump to a 64 bit OS after hearing of some issues with XP x64, but I heard Vista had a polished x64 system. I haven't run into any problems so far, I can do everything I did with Vista x86. The only problem I could really see is if you had a proprietary 16 bit program for your business since 16 bit is done, 32 bit seems to work very well.
I was disappointed to see Windows 7 will have a 32 bit version. There really isn't any reason for it. By then all computers that meet the requirements for the OS will have 64 bit processors. 32 bit works fine, so I see no real reason to stick with 32bit. -
Will 32 bit programs work on XP x64 or Vista x64.
I mainly want to see if AutoCAD, Solidworks, MATLAB, MAPLE, and a couple of other programs will work on x64 -
F2B, im using Vista ultimate x64. Can i join?
-
Yeah, sure, why not...
MXandSXracer21, already been discussed numerous times: YES! -
This from Sony's website. "Sony does not produce VAIO® computer models that support the 64-bit version of the Microsoft® Windows Vista™ operating system."
Where are you folks getting the drivers to run Vista 64 on a FZ computer?
I have a FZ4000 and I've search the internet day and night looking for them with no success.
Thanks

New window updates is crashing my computer. Its either:
Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool x64 - March 2008 (KB890830)
or
Update for Windows Vista for x64-based Systems (KB946041)
Ive tried twice and had to roll back each time because vista fails to load at startup, just ends up with a black screen
Still no SP1 x64 as of March 14 -
I'd like to join too.
My desktop setup on a modified HP m8300f:
Vista Ultimate x64
8gb RAM (Crucial PC2 6400 Dual Channel)
BFG nVidia 8600 GT OC
dLink Wireless PCI card
and..
Vista Ultimate x64 on an HP dv2138xx laptop. -
are there any 64 bit AntiVirus programs? and are they needed for 64 bit OS's? i'm running 32bit NOD32 atm, and it seems to not be getting rid of a pesky trojan.
-
try AVG..
theres special programs to get rid of trojans but i dont think they were freeware -
You can also try Avast. I used it for a while, but I suspect it may have increased my boot-time. I am now using AVG and have had no problems.

-
1am March 18 2008.. still no SP1 ...

That's because you're living in a different day there mate. It's still 17 here, same as in the US.

BTW, I am in. I've been using VU x64 on my desktop since it came out, and the first thing I did with my new laptop was install VHP x64 clean. I won't go back. Also, through technet I have SP1 on both. Works so damn well. -
Sorry Fade, didn't mean to confuse you, I was commenting on your cleverness, and that quote just popped into my head, I couldn't resist seeing if anyone knew which movie it was from.
1337 id107 get's the REP...it is indeed from Jurassic Park.
Might I ask how you get SP1 off Technet? I really want to get SP1 on my machine, but I don't want to have to bother with registry hacks...I've heard that it might not come out until April for Vista Ultimate due to language packs. -
If i remember correctly the english ultimate sp1 will come out today. All other languages will come out on april.
-
Meetloaf13, how I've got SP1? I got it using the all known hack. I never downloaded the standalone. I'm using Server 08 by the way.
-
Yesh, I followed several of the SP1 posts before I reinstalled everything clean a couple weeks ago. Just waiting for it to do it's thing.
Both times I've installed it, I've had to recover my installation b/c it was corrupted somehow...odd I know. -
