You need to use the modded .inf from laptopvideo2go.com

ok, went to laptopvideo2go and from the scroll down list, it list only up to 169.09,

How can i get the inf file for the 174.74 ?

Can i use the inf from the 169.09 and copy it to the 174.74 folder and install from there ?
Thats what i did and not sure that the installation went ok because when i get into the Nvidia control pannel and ask for the forceware rev. it says 156.65

Sorry for all these questions that might sound stupid, but i am learning here.

    thank again.

Next to the download link for the 174.74 page, there will be Modded Inf link. Download this and put this where you unzipped the 174.74 drivers. It will ask you to overwrite the old INF click YES

thats my problem, i cannot find the 174.74 on the laptopvideo2go website...
Unless i dont look at the right place.

I did the installation of the 169.12 but when i look at the video card driver info, (using Nvidia control pannel, then click on display, under graphic card information, it still says forceware 156.65 ?

Do i need to install it using the setup.exe icon, or by updating the driver from the device manager program ?

Where do i have to look under vista to see the driver number of the video card ?

Below is the direct link to the 174.74 driver on Laptopvideo2go:

    http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=18052

This will take you to the driver download page. The next link is a link to a guide on how to install Laptopvideo2go drivers on your computer:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=204425

Follow those instructions and you should be good. If they don't work, you might need to get a different INF file. Report back here if it doesn't work for more information on that.

    worked fine.

    Thanks a 1000 times. :D

Not sure what driver to keep though.

Using the 169 seems to give me a performance index a little better than the 174 (aero performance 3.1 with rev 169 compared with 2.9 with rev 174)

With vista32 my aero and games index were both to 3.0, now with vista 64 my game index is 2.5. Still the games seems to be more fluid with vista 64 (with lower games index) go figure.

Any reasons why i should install the 174 instead of the 169 ?

I have found that the newer drivers get better performance for me; also, the Vista performance index thing is not really the best indicator of gaming performance. And really, all computers are different, so if you find one driver works better than the other, than keep the better one. It's really a game of hit and miss because Laptopvideo2go probably has literally a thousand different drivers.

I wouldn't worry about the Vista index, I don't think it's a very robust benchmarking tool, there are several threads detailing good benchmarking tools if you give it a quick search.

    Enjoy x64!

kozzney, since you have 4 geg ram, dual channel probably, what is your memory index performance with vista 64 ?

Curious to know because before i use to have 2 x 1geg ram dual channel and my index was at 5.7 or close to that, now i have removed 1geg to replace it with a 2 geg kingston 667mhz memory stick. My index has decreased since then to 4.8 Could this be because i am not in dual channel anymore ?

My memory performance index is 4.8, and yes I do have 4GB of dual channel 667mhz RAM. How you got 5.7 with that 2GB, I don't know.

Just by looking at the signature of the posters here, very common to those with 2geg ram to have over 5.7 index on the memory performance... i dont know why.

    So I've got a question...

I have a 100 GB partition that has XP Pro and a currently unused 50 GB partition that I would like to put Vista Ultimate x64 on. Are there any guides/tutorials I should follow for a smooth installation and boot process? Will I be able to access the filesystem on each partition from the other and vice versa? How about program usage?

I had this same setup a while back. You shouldn't have to do anything special, unless you are going to switch to your hard drive to AHCI, I've heard it takes some doing to get that going in XP.

You should be able to access both file systems from each OS, just make sure your user name and password are the same on both systems.

I don`t think 50 GB is enough for Vista and drivers and such.
120 GB is not enough for me, I need more. Add a few games, some movies, some music and you`re in for a desktop cleanup :D

50GB is fine, as long as he keeps all the files he is accessing on his XP partition. That's what I was doing for a while.

In fact, before you start downloading and saving documents and such, I recommend changing Vista's built in Documents/Downloads/Pictures/ETc. folders to point to your existing ones on your XP partition...unless you wish to keep things separate.

Also, keep in mind that if you dual boot XP and Vista, your Vista System Restore files will be erased every time you boot into XP. There are a couple of workarounds, but you wouldn't be able to see your Vista drive while in XP. See this KB article:

I don't use System Restore anyway, I just make weekly backups of my documents onto external hard dries. And I also use Acronis.

50 GB is plenty for me since I have 600 GB in externals.

My biggest concern is if/when I wipe the Vista partition -- will XP boot normally? I had an issue earlier where when I removed a partition (Dell's recovery partition) XP wouldn't boot and my MBR got ****ed.

I have 250gb in my laptop and thats not enough once you install a handfull of games, and throw some moves/music on there.

I have a triple boot but the OS itself uses up very little space.

500gb drives are a reality now and I would love to have one of those.

I plan to get a new laptop soon (look in signature) and I'm just curiouss about the possibilities.

    Thanks!

Oh and I'm not to sure on titles, is 64 bit x64, and 32 bit x86 or somehting? Thanks again haha.

I have been using Vista x64 for a while now and liking it a lot. I do have one issue though and that is that it seems less customizable than 32 bit. 64 bit vista with SP1 makes it basically impossible to use themes taken from places like Deviantart and such. I'm a big fan of several of those kinds of themes and would like to use them. Does anyone have Vista x64 and SP1 with customized themes working for them? If so, could you please let me know how?

The themes shouldn't really be different..
It's more like some system files that you can't mod (even if you do mod them your self) it will cause Vista not to boot.

    Hello guys!
I would be interested in going into 64bit on XP Pro. I am just wondering how well is the HP 8510p supported on this, as well as software that I use ie. Solidworks, Rhino, Pro Engineer, and other engineering ones.
If anyone has experience with this, please share.

    Thanks

I have read a lot that there is already a 64bit version of Deamon tools out there...... but every time I try to install the file that is supposed to be x64 version, it is trying to install into Program Files (x86). If I just change the path and make it install into regular (x64) Program Files, will it run as 64bit version? or can somebody please link to the 64bit installer?!Thank you so much... :)

Has any of you tried dual boot with both Xp and Vista 64bit??

I am planning now to move onto this type of configuration and I have been checking what of my software is not going to run.
    Couple of questions:
Adobe Creative Suite 2 or 3 on XP 64??
burning software for Vista and XP?
    MS Office 2007?

    Thanks for help!
