nope it was because of the disk drive. vista took 5 min to boot on it. same installation now takes 30sec. it was a 4200rpm drive with 30ms access time. so if firefox reads rather dump randomly all stuff at load time from disk, then this was hell for the disk. now with the ssd, this of course all doesn't matter anymore.
firefox ran much better without the addons on the notebook. but on the desktop, there wasn't much difference.
still, couldn't live without the addons anymore![]()

Glasser is cool, but I shiver at these IE-imitating setups...
-
davepermen Notebook Nobel Laureate
yup, scary. ie7 is one of the worst ui designs. (this both from a user and a programmer perspective)
-
I just hate IE themes because it reminds me of IE which is =x

i like your tabs. is this a skin? which one? /me likes. (i still have some xp environments where glasser obviously is not an option

with fission, the statusbar is gone, too (and a nice loadingbar instead behind the locationbar (2, in my case).

yes, fission does so, too. it's called the 'statusbar', that thing with the monkey face
-
I was about to go download that plug-in to hide the status bar but then it hit me, I could just disable it from the view menu in Firefox itself.
Go to View in the menu bar and untick status bar. -

hm now i'm interested if i actually did that.. or if fission took it away... haha

Fission didn't remove it as I have that addon and then I got autohidestatusbar to get rid of the status bar.
Thanks to nu_D for the easy way to remove the bar without an addon. -
TabMixPlus for the status bar on the tab instead of the URL bar like Fission

OK. Thought (hoped?) I had missed a feature of TabMixPlus is all.
-
I'm pretty sure there is an add-on that does that. I'm sure a lot of people hide the status bar.
-
-
davepermen Notebook Nobel Laureate
i had once an addon that made it a tooltip besides the cursor..
-
-
Is there an addon which pop up the full url when you hover over a link?
I want to hide the status bar on the bottom, but this function is the only thing stopping me. -
try fission
-
Does fission interfere with tabmixplus or any other addons?
-
so far no problem as I'm using tabmixplus too
-
-
AKAJohnDoe Mime with Tourette's
Fission does not do it for me. When the URL is longer than the URLbar space it does not show it all without going there and scrolling it over.
-
I was hoping for something like a pop up under your mouse when you hover over a link.
As AKAJohnDoe has pointed out, if the link is too long it gets cut off. -

Looks good. I like it
I also removed the glass on the right search bar. -
Okay I got a problem. I just updated one of my add-ons (Fast Dial) and it made my tab space super huge because it added its icon to the tab bar. No setting to remove it. I need help removing the fast dial icon or the drop down arrow under it.
EDIT: Screw this update. It is horrible. Updating back to the old one, NO ONE update Fast Dial, you'll just be going back to the old one. -
AKAJohnDoe Mime with Tourette's
I tried FastDial awhile back and found it incomplete, so stayed with SpeedDial.
From the comments posted about this latest update to FastDial it seems I made the right decision. -
Yeah the latest Fast Dial is crap. 2.9 is flawless though. I reverted back.
-
AKAJohnDoe Mime with Tourette's
Back on November 30, 2008 I sent an email to the developer of FastDial wondering about the options to apply the settings to all Folders and all Thumbnails not working. I never did get it to work and never did get a response.

what is a really basic ff3 theme? anything similar or as simple as chrome. my mom uses ff3 but is asking me for a very easy basic theme? nothing really dark... thanks
-
-
ill check those out. yeah it doesnt have to look like chrome but i said that because of how simple chrome looks.. she hates all the extra buttons everywhere and extra things she will never use..she loves how simple chrome is. but at her job they use ff and she is not at all computer literate as she says and she wants to stay with the same thing at home.. id love to send her a nice skin to load at work to make it easier for her
-
AKAJohnDoe Mime with Tourette's
She can probably just use the default theme and customize the toolbar.
-
Exactly, every theme you download is going to have the same buttons as what's currently on there. You need to customize and remove them yourself if you don't want that many buttons and etc.
-
yeah i was hoping to find something she could just install because im not there to do it for her... and im not going to ask her to do it lol..

Is there anyway to remove the top of ff, the bit with the min/max/close buttons, or is that more than an addon?
-
-
Carrot Muncher Notebook Evangelist
Dunno why not, were on the subject of ff mods, so thought I'd mention it. I've been using chrome recently and the min/max/close buttons are in the same bar as the tabs which is cool, gives a little bit extra viewing space. -
