nope it was because of the disk drive. vista took 5 min to boot on it. same installation now takes 30sec. it was a 4200rpm drive with 30ms access time. so if firefox reads rather dump randomly all stuff at load time from disk, then this was hell for the disk. now with the ssd, this of course all doesn't matter anymore.

firefox ran much better without the addons on the notebook. but on the desktop, there wasn't much difference.

still, couldn't live without the addons anymore :)

Same here. I have an insane amount of addons and the only performance drop I notice is a couple more seconds of load time when I initially open Firefox.

I was trying to make Firefox use as least screen real estate as possible while still have some aesthetically pleasing look, and I ended up with this.

with fission, the statusbar is gone, too (and a nice loadingbar instead behind the locationbar (2, in my case).

Autohidestatusbar will get rid of that little grey bar at the bottom with 'done' and the monkey face.

I was about to go download that plug-in to hide the status bar but then it hit me, I could just disable it from the view menu in Firefox itself. :p

Go to View in the menu bar and untick status bar. :)

Fission didn't remove it as I have that addon and then I got autohidestatusbar to get rid of the status bar. :p

Thanks to nu_D for the easy way to remove the bar without an addon. :)

The add-on "Tab Mix Plus" shows the status loading bar in each individual tab. For example, I'm on NBR right now. I open a new tab and open newyorktimes.com, the status bar will be on that tab, not NBR or the URL bar. Hope that makes sense. :)

I know about the Progress Meter on the Tab in TabMixPlus, but know of no way to get, for example, the URL of a hiperlink to show on the Tab like it does on the Status Bar when hovered over. I still find that useful, which is why I leave the Status Bar on most of the time, but have the ability to toggle it off.

I'm pretty sure there is an add-on that does that. I'm sure a lot of people hide the status bar.

Is there an addon which pop up the full url when you hover over a link?

I want to hide the status bar on the bottom, but this function is the only thing stopping me.

Well, Tab Mix Plus doesn't mess much with anything but tabs, so it wouldn't conflict with that. As for other addons... just try it and see. :D

Fission does not do it for me. When the URL is longer than the URLbar space it does not show it all without going there and scrolling it over.

I was hoping for something like a pop up under your mouse when you hover over a link.

As AKAJohnDoe has pointed out, if the link is too long it gets cut off.

Okay I got a problem. I just updated one of my add-ons (Fast Dial) and it made my tab space super huge because it added its icon to the tab bar. No setting to remove it. I need help removing the fast dial icon or the drop down arrow under it.

EDIT: Screw this update. It is horrible. Updating back to the old one, NO ONE update Fast Dial, you'll just be going back to the old one.

Back on November 30, 2008 I sent an email to the developer of FastDial wondering about the options to apply the settings to all Folders and all Thumbnails not working. I never did get it to work and never did get a response.

ill check those out. yeah it doesnt have to look like chrome but i said that because of how simple chrome looks.. she hates all the extra buttons everywhere and extra things she will never use..she loves how simple chrome is. but at her job they use ff and she is not at all computer literate as she says and she wants to stay with the same thing at home.. id love to send her a nice skin to load at work to make it easier for her

Exactly, every theme you download is going to have the same buttons as what's currently on there. You need to customize and remove them yourself if you don't want that many buttons and etc.

Is there anyway to remove the top of ff, the bit with the min/max/close buttons, or is that more than an addon?

Why would you want to do that? The top bar of the window? Probably a VS or some type of hack could do that. No add-on would do that.

Dunno why not, were on the subject of ff mods, so thought I'd mention it. I've been using chrome recently and the min/max/close buttons are in the same bar as the tabs which is cool, gives a little bit extra viewing space.

It is cool, but no one but Mozilla can change that. I doubt they would, though, as they're trying to keep Firefox looking rather universal on each platform.
