    Anyone try StartUpLite for W7?

This is free from Malwarebytes. I cut my boot up time by half with zero problems during the last month. Anyone find any downside or problems?

That's a lot of work with some saying no change. StartUpLite is automatic and painless..so far. My Tosh is getting close to same start times than my asus with Momentus XT. I have not, will not install this on the XT until i get off my duff and see what Startuplite is all about. Thx.

Looks kind of pointless to me. All it seems to do is eliminate various kind of startup items (or simply all of them?). That's trivial to do manually; just use msconfig.

Yea, i went back and researched it. As you said. I will say it did a good job for the lazy and gives you a choice on what to disable or not. So, for the clueless, it seems safe enough.

Here is my favorite screen recording application free of course.

    Amarecco

    This is English page

My post about this on another forum site.

    http://stream-recorder.com/forum/another-freeware-screen-capture-software-hard-find-t8330.html

There are a couple of new plugins on the the main site (japanese site part) that I haven't tested yet but you can just put them into the plugin folder of the installation and try them out yourself. This program has tons of options, let me know what you all think. This program can just record about anything you got on your screen even videos with sound and games! Let me know if anybody needs the best profile for recording I can post screenshots of mine.

    Extra Plugins

    amarecco plugins.zip

Screen record of need for speed shift

Just wanted to comment that this list is really really great and thanks to the people who keep it up to date. It's hard to cut through the garbage on the web with all the software packages that sneakily charge or the free products that don't run well. This thread is basically my go-to resource on the internet anytime I have a software need and it has saved me a lot of time and frustration

I don't see any VPN clients (free or otherwise) on that list. I guess I can just use the built-in Windows 7 features? Thanks!

anyone have a recommendation for a good free OCR program? I'm actually looking for something that can quickly convert to text on the clipboard any image on screen

I'm trying a program called "Screen OCR" but they charge after the free trial (edit: this program sucks)

Rufus is a small utility that helps format and create bootable USB flash drives, such as USB keys/pendrives, memory sticks, etc.

It can be be especially useful for cases where:

you need to create USB installation media from bootable ISOs (Windows, Linux, etc.)
you need to work on a system that doesn't have an OS installed
you need to flash a BIOS or other firmware from DOS
you want to run a low-level utility

VPN connections are mainly for protecting our privacy and identity online. There are loads of VPN providers to choose from. You can use the free PPTP or OpenVPN service from VPNBook.com. As PPTP client is included in most operating systems and OpenVPN is an open source project, no propriety software is needed.

Useful for students who need a bit of help on their science and mathematical analysis.

    Microsoft Mathematics 4.0

"Microsoft Mathematics provides a set of mathematical tools that help students get school work done quickly and easily. With Microsoft Mathematics, students can learn to solve equations step-by-step while gaining a better understanding of fundamental concepts in pre-algebra, algebra, trigonometry, physics, chemistry, and calculus.

Microsoft Mathematics includes a full-featured graphing calculator that’s designed to work just like a handheld calculator. Additional math tools help you evaluate triangles, convert from one system of units to another, and solve systems of equations."

Best thing of all this Microsoft supported application is freeware and is compatible from Windows XP SP3 to the current Windows.

If you use Handbrake for video conversion and need to batch convert Animi mkv or other video`s and need to burn-in the english subtitles handbrake will only do them one at a time, i dont know why.

I found this program called THandBrake and it`s a GUI for handbrake that allows you to batch convert videos with subtitles in batch mode :)

EDIT: One nice feature is you can compress a video to a specific file size, the default is 100mb.

    John.

Have you ever felt instant turning off your monitor when you want to go somewhere so it would save power but never wanted to change power plans for that? Or just like to keep it blank when you go away but don't like when it dimms in front of you when you still sit?
    View attachment 123462
I found a response about this little program called Monitor Off.
Download standalone version in ZIP container and you can use it for both: display-off by key-combo and display-off when doubleclick tray icon with timer.
    1. Autoload program with display off when doubleclick: copy program in any folder like C:\PortableApps\Monitor Off\ and setup accordingly;
    View attachment 123460
    2. Display-off by key-combo: same what is above where Ctrl+Alt+L as example.
    3. Display-off by key-combo + pranking with M$ if you don't use another display/projector: put another copy of program elsewhere (like Windows\System32 and rename to DisplaySwitch.exe), check "Save settings in program folder" and setup accordingly but with out Autostart with Windows.
If you chose to prank M$ then anytime you press Win+P it will display off your display in couple seconds.
Most important... such complicated way still doesn't make any interactions!

I don't know if this neat little program was mentioned here before, but if you want to remap some keys on your keyboard, Sharpkeys/']https://sharpkeys.codeplex.com/]Sharpkeys[/url] is capable of doing it.
I wanted to have dedicated previous track, play/pause, next track keys on T100, so I used this program and voila, it works!
