Any good Registery Fixer/Cleaner
does System Mechanic do that ?
(I know this is not free)
I have Vista Ultimate 64bit -
You either get thorough and dangerous (as in may cause havoc) or get one that only does the "cosmetic bits" and is less likely to cause damage.
Also -in terms of performance, not worth it.
If you must:
The older Versions of "Wise Cleaner" (Registry and Temp) worked well for me (in the free version) - the newer ones can be dodgy, I think I had a problem with one.
Else, CCLeaner.
But you may damage your system. -

hi guys, i used to have xp and i was using trayit! ( http://www.teamcti.com/trayit/trayit.htm) which allows me to minimize things on my taskbar to the system tray.
now that i am using vista. i cant find similar program. anyone has any? -
I added TrayIt to the System Tools' miscellaneous section. Hopefully a Vista version pop's up... as it indeed looks very useful to have.
-

yeah..hopefully...have been waiting for a long time -
Try PowerMenu. It should work for all 32-bit Windows versions.

works wonders dude...thanks matey -
I dont understand
So which is better ? "Wise Cleaner" or "CCLeaner"
or these will damage my system ?? -
CCleaner is more safe to use.

The question is, do you really even need to clean out your registry these days? Applications these days are using technology that doesn't require the registry as much, and so in my view it might be removed in a future version of Windows. I thought Microsoft would do away with it in Windows Vista and Windows 7 even, but it's still there for backwards compatibility...
Edit: I guess if you are still using XP then having a clean registry would be better...
It's always possible that these cleaners could inadvertantly remove entries in the registry that are critical to your system. There are cleaners that only target entries that point to files that do not exist anymore, or an entry for an application that was uninstalled some time before. Those would be classified as "cosmetic" changes. Other cleaners are more aggressive, in compacting the registry to save disk space and improve performance. Those (although unlikely) can cause irreperable harm and prevent your computer from running normally. -
If you have to use a registry cleaner - I'd say CCleaner - but check ever entry.
Wise Cleaner - I had problems with a newer version, the "old ones" were fine for me.
(Just to put it in "black and white") -
Thanks alot all

Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
This is a good registry cleaner I use. It works well, the only bad thing about it is that it uses a lot of cpu power (maybe not for others since I have a Pentium 4, also have no idea if it works on 64-bit).
Program Official Website -
I wonder if I used an older version of that...
I may have. -
Thanks Jayayess1190! I didn't see this in the master list so I just added it. Would you vouch for it so I can mark it as tested?
-
Well I can say that my copy of XP is still working - so the basic OS continues to function.
-
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
Yes I'll vouch for it. -
Could you if possible put a brief description for the programs to know what differentiates them and what they do exactly? I think that would really wrap this up!
-
I think that would be too much to ask from dbam...
-
Unfortunately I don't have enough time to do something like that.
I already do put brief excerpts of applications from the main pages of most applications so far, though the list is still incomplete in that regard.
Feel free though to write brief reviews on this thread and let me know so I can put a link to it from the main list. That, I believe, will allow people to better compare two solutions.
I actually am planning on fixing the formatting of the main post so it's easier to read. The brief excerpts, while helpful, make it a bit of a challenge to read... stay tuned! -
For those who have difficulty ejecting the CD/DVD tray on their laptop (like me) I find "Eject 2.02" very small and easy to use. I use it on both an XP and Vista OS's. I simply put a shortcut to it on my taskbar.
http://www.brothersoft.com/eject-download-6300.html -
Thanks! I put it in the miscellaneous section for the System Tools category.
-
Thanks man this is Truely awsome
I tried cos you said : Highly recommended!(just Highlight it in Bold so i dont miss it )
thxs again -
I have never used the neowin site that dbam987 links to before but McAfee put cautions all over it for occasional bad downloads.
I do not think you should download from there.

I haven't downloaded any applications from Neowin's site, but the link I gave for the Fences application is on Stardock's site. I'll have to be careful I guess when I'm on Neowin's site. Thanks for the heads up.

Nice List! Sure grew since I last posted here!
An update on some of the software you have on the list:
ISO Recorder v3.1 is Vista and Windows 7 compliant. 32 and 64 - both versions on the website.
And Cygwin - I figure an overlooked application that provides a Linux-like environment for Windows making it possible to port software running on POSIX systems (such as Linux, BSD, and Unix systems) to Windows. It allows you to compile software from source and install using the ./config , make, make install method. Includes a Bash shell.
Thanks again for keeping this up!
-Cheers -

I figure Cygwin would be in a class of its own virtually providing a Linux Environment inside of Windows. It is compatible with 2000, XP, and Vista. Should be compliant with Windows 7 when it really takes off.
-
Awesome! I added it to the list. Would you vouch for both ISO Recorder and/or Cygwin?

Is there any possibility of damage for my pc if I use non-tested softwares?
-
There's very little software that will actually damage your PC. However, there is lots that can and will damage your other software...But what the heck, someone's got to test it...
-
I stumbled across this on BBC Click
http://www.samurize.com/modules/news/
Now - I have not tried it and as of now do not intend to try it (the less aditional stuff you run the faster is your computer overal, yes?)
I may, but let's see... if anybody fancies to do so, do so at your own risk. -
The only apps that could cause something to go wrong are the ones that tweak your system in some way. Other apps have a much less likely-hood to damage stuff. Stuff that tweaks the registry, or performs skinning of Windows, or overclocks the processor or graphics card should be used with care.

Thxs for the Tip
what do you guys think of Vista Manager v2.0.2 ? -
is there a good free software to monitor how much date has been uploaded/downloaded? thanks.
nevermind, using bitmeter.
has what i needed. -
Revo Uninstaller
this is a very small utility that enables you to safely or forcefully delete any software from your computer..It also enables u to remove the registry associated with that software.... -
Thanks, dogarsahab, but it's already in the list under the System Tools/System Cleaners section.
-
This thread is awesome. Thank you to all those who contributed.
-
I've found a few goodies in here to add to my arsenal. Thanks.
-
i have had no problems with samurize. its alot like rainmeter but it has a graphical editor.
-
So, would you say you vouch for it then? Gotta fill out this list!
-
I came across this as an alternative to outlook, thunderbird and windows live mail. It is a beta called Postbox. I haven't tried it tho, I am happy with outlook and windows live mail but thought the more, the merrier for the list.
http://www.postbox-inc.com/ -
Thanks for the add! From the screenshots, it looks like a Mac OSX application only, but it is indeed for Windows. Looks like a very cool mail client to use, and I'd jump on it to try it, but already have Outlook to handle my email needs.
-
I just did a quick download of it to see what it has. Overall, it does have quite a few utilities to help out in optimizing Vista, and it's interface is very clean and crisp. I like how it can detect the digital signatures of many applications running, and the level of customization you can perform. Granted, I haven't tried any of the optimization options it has since my machine runs fine as it is. One major plus is that it asks to create a system restore point before doing anything.
Sadly though, it's not free and therefore cannot be added to the list.
-
thanks so much for your input
Would u know any messenger that can handle yahoo & msn at one time
Please do let me know -
No problem! I like to experiment with lots of stuff every now and then.
Trillian can handle both Yahoo and MSN at the same time. The basic edition should work just fine, and I tested it a while back as well. -
Thanks soooo much
-
BTW, PostBox is actually based on Thunderbird technologies, haven't tried it though.
