I have put Vista SP1 RC on my other computer and understand it will show the Watermark in the corner...I think it was mentioned earlier that to install the final version of Vista SP1, you need to uninstall this SP1 RC....so how would you go about uninstalling it? I do not see it in the list of Programs.

Hello... which part of "release candidate" don't you understand? You never saw anything like this with service packs on XP, because you were never given a chance to try a "release candidate" for an XP service pack.

This is as expected, because after a major update like this Superfetch has to retune itself. There was an article referenced earileir that mentions this.

Hmm not sure. Try right clicking and running as adminstrator though I doubt that will help. So literally nothing happens? No window at all. I guess your main option would be re-download it, I suppose.

I live in the US. I was born in dhaka and I moved to the US when I was five. All my extended family lives in Dhaka though.

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...0e-4275-482d-9524-de850c4dd91c&DisplayLang=en

Right there where it says uninstall previous sp1. It will be the same method for us. The final sp1 should be available sometime in the first quarter of next year.

Do you have the realktek hd? If so then shouldn't be an issue. If you have a different soundcard then I dunno it might cause problems though no-one has mentioned anything about it.

But did it reorganize your bootfiles? I doubt if it did. Go to the Tweaks sticky at the top of the page then go to the end of the thread.... oh hell wait here is a direct link... Go here and scroll to message # 789 I posted this message to show folks how to force a bootfile defrag using Vista's built in tools for this.

wow. same as me..... i went from 70GB free --> 85.5 GB free? wtf?

oh, and also i used the direct 500MB (or however big it was) installer file and it took like, 2 hours to install.
but the weirder thing is mine doesnt show up with "Evaluation copy" watermark?

Vista version is Service pack 1 according to Computer properties.

edit: nvm, rebooted and its showing up

    Well patching uxtheme works...
    you just need new files
    you can find them here:
    http://anti-tgtsoft.com/repository/

just using a soft like vistaglazz wont work, and may screw your system
(it's warning you about that, and the website says SP1 is not supported anyway)

Vista SP1 includes an update to system restore. System restore uses a huge amount of disk space if you don't remove old restore points and just leave it to do it's own thing. A restore point should be made for the installation of SP1 but the older ones will get deleted and give you a huge amount of disk space back. Once you start installing things again and making system changes your disk will get eaten up again.

Yes, I just read the information from the link you posted, but when the final version of Vista SP1 will come sometime in 2008, how will I be able to uninstall the version of Vista SP1 RC that I currently have?

I recently also put on Windows XP SP3 RC on my desktop and when I go to the list of programs, "Windows XP SP3" appears in the list, with an option to remove (when the final version of XP SP3 comes out).

So if I do not see Vista SP1 in the list of programs...then how will I be able to uninstall it?

Uninstall Instructions for Windows Vista SP1 RC:
Windows Vista SP1 RC does not support build-to-build upgrades. If you install this build to your system, you need to uninstall it before moving to the final Vista SP1 RTM version.

Prerequisite packages (KB935509, KB937287 and KB938371) for Window Vista SP1 are permanent and unistall of these packages is disabled by design. During the installation of Windows Vista SP1 RC, the installer determines whether or not you need the prerequisite packages and updates your system automatically.

To uninstall Windows Vista SP1 RC use the follwing steps:

    1. Click on the Start Menu and go to Control Panel

    2. Double click on Programs and Features

    3. On the left side menu, select View Installed Updates

    4. Under the list of Microsoft Windows, select Service Pack for Windows (KB936330)

    5. On the top minu, click on Uninstall

    EDIT: too late :p

Does it now place a folder in my start menu when I install programs?

Does it delete files from my program files folder when I delete programs?

Right...I can see it now: thousands, if not millions, of legitimate OEM licenses "accidentally" invalidated in one fell swoop of Microsoft dysfunction. But that could never happen...I mean MS is very careful with WGA and it never, ever fails. Right?

I don`t see any problem with it. It`s clearly stating it`s an evaluation copy and not the final product. Nobody said you OS copy just got illegal. Sheesh !

EDIT : just noticed my AERO has gone down. It does not work anymore

Ok, while it was installing the Service Pack, my computer bluescreened (I fell asleep and didn't notice until a couple hours later) I just decided to turn it off and go back to sleep. Now I'm worried that things may not be installed correctly? I see the watermark in the corner and checked System Properties-It shows that SP1 is installed. Should I try installing again after a reformat?

I just successfully installed RC 1 on my Toshiba. When I first rebooted I lost Aero, but after the Windows System Assessment tool ran again it came back. WSA ran automatically after it rebooted the last time, but if yours didn't I'm sure you could manually run it.

my file was only 150MB or so.... and now it has that evaluation copy thing at the bottom rite...

btw.. i dont kno if this was mentioned, if you use windows dreamscene it doesnt show that evaluation copy thing at the bottom... my build is 6001 btw... i dunno if ppl have diff versions.

also i havent noticed many changes. except prolly none at all, i suppose opening files has gotten faster, but it seems opening games(ie Bioshock) has gotten slower. and files rele dont open that much faster, differences is in like milliseconds? nothing bad has happened either tho, so thats a plus. so.. we'll see i guess.

EDIT:ADDing since crimson posted while i was writing thus didnt see his post:
-crimson, it just means your using a beta version of SP1. the real thing wont be out till 1stQ 2008, wen we all have to uninstall this beta, and redownload the real, probably bigger one. >_<

    BAD NEWS

Remember when vista came out and the gaming community complained that vsync didnt work with nvidia cards?

Remember how nvidia kept listing it in the Vista Limitations section of its release notes?

Remember when nvidia removed it from the Vista Limitations section and actually FIXED the problem?

    Well NOT ANYMORE!

With Vista SP1 vsync no longer works from the nvidia control panel. This means that unless the game you are playing has an in game vsync option, you are SOL.

This was tested with a clean install of Vista x64/x86, Nvidia 8600M GT, Nvidia 8800 GTX. First I install Vista, then the video drivers, then Bioshock, Crysis, Half-Life 2, and Quake 4. This ensured that it was not only a problem with OpenGL or Direct3D. I also tested DX9 and DX10 modes of Bioshock and Crysis. I also tested in native resolutions and lower. I then installed SP1 and well.....all down hill...vsync doesnt work!

Guess ill be heading over to the Nvidia Vista feedback program and resparking vsync talks....AGAIN!

BTW, I also went back and uninstalled forceware drivers, ran driver cleaner in safe mode, reinstalled drivers after SP1 install. I also went back from 169.25 to 169.04...still no go.

I would say because of high traffic load there are problems with windows update. Windows update was never that great anyways. Try using the installer packaage link on my OP. I tried downloading the installer and got decent 200 KB Speeds.

Bluescreened during a major update? You bet I would be rolling back, IMMEDIATELY. You have no clue what state your machine is in. The SP installer set a restore point for you (unless you have System Restore turned off). But there is no way you should even think about considering your machine stable right now.
