Downloading the RC1 version of SP1 was weird because of the freezing or whatever you want to call it.
Installation went smooth.
Overall it seems quite a bit faster than the beta SP1.
I did not monitor my CPU temp beforehand so I don't know if I can actually vote in the poll.
For now, big thumbs up for SP1 RC1.

I don't have a watermark for some reason but when I go into system it says I have service pack 1 v.668 installed.
Does anyone with vista ultimate see the watermark? -
-
-
From start to finish, it took about three hours for me to DL and install SP1. It hung up alot, especially during the DLing but it did hang up a little during installation too. Give it a little time and things should work themselves out.

LCD is always 60hz (though some drivers mention 75hz)
what do you want to sync to? -
-
Sorry for the OT, but explain that? a LCD works with pixels, not with scanlines refreshing at a certain frequency.
Vsync was invented to "sync" the refresh of the game to the rate of the scanlines, so that no tearing could occur.
You can actually not sync, the "60hz" frequency it's either on or of.
The LCD can not go down (lower van 60hz) and most videocards in notebooks don't reach 60fps on native resolutions.
so unless you conect a dinosaur CRT on external VGA it's a NON ISSUE -
The image is transferred to the LCD TFT matrix serially, pixel by pixel (obviously its impossible to tranfer all pixels at once from video memory to the LCD - it will require separate wire for each pixel).
So lets say, there is a refresh cycle in process. Already half of matrix being refreshed from video memory with Frame Number 73. Then game does a frame switch (with VSync off). So another half of matrix continue to be feeded info from Frame Number 74, and you see a "tear" in the resultant picture on the LCD where switch took place.
The fact that game does actually 24 FPS will not help. Point it that sometimes it will still switch frames in the middle of the TFT refresh cycle. Unless you will enable Vsync, then it will switch frames only between refresh cycles. -
Yeah, how come I dont see a watermark?

HELP!
This is my first post (but I've been lurking around for a while though). Following the advice from this forum, I downloaded and installed the SP1 RC on my notebook (Sony SZ6 running Vista Business). It hang up a lot during the installation (especially during the last step - stage 3 of 3 - it just sat there for hours without any activity) so I had to force reset quite a few times (by pressing and holding the power button). Finally it passed the last stage and rebooted. When the Windows logon screen appears, I was prompted to enter the password. I did and got the following message:
"The group policy client service failed the logon. Invalid access to memory location".
So I cannot log into Windows! Can anybody help figure this out? I don't want to reformat and reinstall Windows!
TIA! -
Contact Sony or MS about it. -
downloading the 548MB installer now. Currently downloading at roughly 500KB/sec. : D
I made a restore point already just in case. -

If it says it's service pack and v.668 it IS RC1
-
Water mark should appear after the second reboot (the second reboot after installation is finished). Maybe thats why you didnt see it.

WOW!! Right after installing Vista SP1...I got 10GIGs worth of free space that Vista was probably using for some reason. Sweet!
-
It's using it for system restore!
-
NVM. I see the watermark now. =(

You can tweak the restore storage size to any value you want via the vssadmin utility.
Btw its not insane at all, for example if you got 300Gb HDD, its only 3% -

Whoah thread grew a couple of pages overnight. Yeah that HD space recovery happened to alot of people. Its just wiping out useless stuff.
INteresting to see that nearly everyone thinks sp1 is an improvement. Yes other people are experiening CPU temp decreases. I'm not crazy!! -
Would you happen to know any other ways to access it? -
You need to use it from the Administrator command prompt, its a command-line utility.
-
Water Mark is easily removed.

Most of the games I am playing now and at the settings I am playing at I am lucky to hit 40 fps so I don't mind not having v-sync. e.g. Gears of war, Call of duty 4
-
Without VSync you'll get tearing regardless of the FPS. In fact its more prominient on lower FPS (because you see tear between more differently frames even on slower camera movement).
Btw, for me VSync works in SP1. -

Forerunner will you please place these links you gave on the first page.....It will be more helpful.....Thanks !!
Heres the list to the link of changes:
http://technet2.microsoft.com/Window....mspx?mfr=true
Heres a more detailed report in word form:
http://download.microsoft.com/downlo..._Candidate.doc
Edit : Oops...I am sorry there is link already I guess....
Anyways....My installation went smoothly a bit time consuming though...
2 main things I have noticed till now are :
1) Faster copying speeds for large transfers
2) Less CPU usage
3) Slightly more zippy (It may be a placebo effect !!) -

Forerunner had already posted them on Page 5 of this thread
2nd link doesn't work anymore...
Here is the first :

It on the first post of this thread I guess !! -

Yeah already have it up. At least I think its the same link. Yes! More people with cpu temps. Anyone care to show how much, or any noticebale signs? Like my c90s fans are on their lowest audible state alot more than they used to be when doing stuff like browsing and playing poker and stuff.

Anyone else experiencing EXTREMELY slow iPod transfer under SP1 RC1?

Guess I'm gonna have to wait until it's "slipstream-able". -

k, vista sp1 installed and everything running fine. However, i still don't see the zippyness of xp. Do u guys feels the same? or is it just me? i kinda expected more interms of performance from this serv pack
-

I dont think its very bad even if its effect of SP1 - I am pretty sure NVidia will fix it. -
So obvious, less CPU usage => lesser CPU temp. -
CPU temps on my G1s haven't changed as far as I can tell, but SP1RC installed perfectly and has not given me any issues since.
