dxdiag reports GPU memory wrong (1022 MB, where it should be 256MB).

I'm sure this was probably mentioned already(didn't fell like reading thru 16 pages), but some Gadgets are not compatible. Like AccuWeather Gadget doesn't work at all and the AppLauncher is buggy & doesn't let you change options.
Other than that I'm enjoying Windows 7. Using 64bit. -
ie8 crashes consistently.... explorer crashes when i open my computer like in vista quite often.... after installing w7 alongside vista... i had to system restore vista as it did start properly after installing w7.

Anyone having success in getting Aero effects to be enabled on a VMware virtual machine running windows 7? Me thinks the VMware graphics drivers do not support the WDDM 1.1 spec to enable Aero...

RE: text To speech
well text to speech is not enabled on default --> this should not be a surprise to anyone here. But you can make TTS to work by writing a Macro in Word 2008 and you can enable Start Pause and Stop ill PM you the macro if your interested
BTW great news kinda I believe i found the error for my sleep issues. Consequently this issue showed its ugly face in Vista 64 BIT also. The problem lies on WUDFRD.sys. Unlike vista though I have yet to BSOD just an error when looking at my health reports.
Enclosed in this post is the screenshot of the error, hope this information will provide a fix in the future.

Just got an issue with the feedback reporting, where it interfered with installation of MSI installers and Explorer. But Action center gave me a quick fix, telling me to delete a certain registry key. All is now good.
But I found it funny that something designed to fix errors caused one -

Microsoft Silverlight 2.0 doesn't seem to install to any browser. I download it, run it, and click "Install" and it disappears. From everywhere, including Task Manager. Figure it'll probably be fixed by RTM. Gonna try it once just in case I entirely missed something, but the exact same process worked perfectly in XP.
Earlier I found a bug where Performance Monitor told me my hard drive was idle up to 100.6% of the time. Already sent feedback on that one.
My computer doesn't resume from Sleep, either, but that may have to do with the chipset driver failing to install. Haven't tried installing it in Safe Mode though - that did work for one other driver.

I cant get PS CS4 to install......

Installed win7codecs and also vlc and I can't watch an 1080p mkv on my win 7 64bit gateway p7805 (jerky playback)

I recommend to use ffdshow (a single directshow filter, performs the same function as a "codec pack" in that it will play any video/audio file) and media player classic. Lightweight, actively developed for the audiophile/videophile community (nightly builds), and extremely powerful. You can ignore all of the options and it will work perfectly.
Note that the original ffdshow project is dead but has been continued as the "ffdshow tryout" project.

I love those reviews...
Q: "Does PS CS4 work on W7?"
A: "Hey PS CS4 works on W7!!! WOHOOO!!!!"
So obviously power users are happy but forget to ask the most important thing...
Q: "What have you used it for? "
A: "Well, I double clicked on it and it opens. I also created a PSD file with a few layers"
Q:" Have you worked with RAW, etc?"
A: "Uhmmm.... Photoshop works..." -
just 2 little bugs, when i set up Quick launch on the toolbar it works fine but on reboot its gone and has to be set up again.
I only have 6 icons on my desktop but if i re-position one or two to where i prefer them - they are moved back to where they were on reboot.
I also had a problem with video playback and also sony vegas not playing back video properly until I installed the Win7codecs ver. 1b now everything is fine. -

Some people attract these things. My best friend managed to BSOD W7 3 times today. 1, Creative, 2, finger print reader, and 3, Nvidia.

I just installed WIN 7 on a Dell 600. Nothing special, and not installing anything extra. Anyway, I can move around and stuff but when I go to try out one of the games, my laptop just locks up on me. I've had to power down 3x now.... I don't get it.

I posted this elsewhere but this seems to be the proper location in hindsight.
I recently installed Windows 7 on my HDX Dragon and was surprisingly pleased with the result.
First problem I encountered was that certain HP programs refused to load so I was forced to Recover from my back up disks and then do an "Upgrade" (One of the few times one can both 'say' and 'mean' that word in when referencing Microsoft products...)
All went well, after some trimming the install was down to 15GB.
Now, enough with the back-story. The bug I seem to have run into is that I am now experiencing a "lull" at start-up. After entering my password and logging in, a few of my services start but then there is a 90 second gap until the rest begin and complete.
Before rmClock would appear in the UAC the instant the desktop appeared, it now takes quite a while.
And during this "lull", this become unresponsive. I can access some things but not others.
I've looked around the net and some people are hinting towards a Workstation disable to fix the issue. I've included a screenshot of my service start times below.
Apologies if this has been covered but I couldn't find a post regarding the problem and Windows 7 on this forum.Attached Files:

Now I am able to select a screensaver, which I couldn't do with my old card, but once again, the screen saver never comes on. Any ideas or am I fighting a losing battle? I have a P4, 2.8, 512 MB RAM. Also, my mouse scroll doesn't work properly. It is a MS Laser 6000, and it works fine when I boot into XP.
Thanks. -
Just wish there was a better solution than just removing it from the startup.
--Update
Seems it didn't do the trick after all. Looks like somethign else has taken it's place because my startup was slow again but workstation was still offline.
Does anyone know how to use the performance monitor during startup to track problem services? -
I have nothing to report! so why post? Well on my recent Samsung Q45 lap T.
everything works so far. There's a wee problem, which is a curiosity only; the screen brightness app. comes on with Fn key but doesn't do anything. I've tried upgrading it but to no avail. MAybe this is a bug? No matter what I do, zipped files (in this case recent for-Vista Samsung updates) end up somewhere, doing nothing. Suggestions? This is really annoying. With Vista on another partition this is no problem -
-
I as well am having issues with accessing all my features in my Realtek HD Audio Manager as well as with my Creative X-Fi Expresscard Audio Manager. I tried installing as administrator and in Vista compatibility mode no luck. Its like Win7 has a dominant audio stack that layers itself over any audio software you install reducing you to just 2 speaker audio
.
I'm also having an issue getting my IR receiver to work. Anyone has any suggestions? -
My bug:
I tried to download the beta and it failed. Now it won't let me download anymore. It's a terrible bug. -

Not too critical but I noticed that when I tried to change the picture position of my desktop background to tile, it wouldn't do anything. I tried messing with the different positions but it just stayed at center even after I saved changes.

System properties in my computer doesn't show my processor or RAM, and I get an error about creating the details page when on the WEI breakdown page.
And clicking system properties opens 2 windows when clicked sometimes. -
^ 64 bit? If yeah, we have the same problem. If x86, news to me.

x86. It happened after a BSoD, and not even a sytem restore fixed it.
-
Okay, so both versions have their fair share of issues
.

Uh how come I can't get into the Gadgets screen? When I right click on the desktop and click Gadgets, nothing happens.

Nope doesn't fix anything for me. I've tried doing this on several different occasions, with many restarts and shut downs in between.

can't install any drivers that actually work for my Intel Robson Turbo Memory, Windows Experience Index gives my primary disk transfer rate a 2.9 rating even though i have a 7200RPM harddrove with 2 GB's of Turbo Memory

I also noticed issues with my brightness
. No matter what I do, the shutdown procedure is very abrupt

HI y'all. Newbie here a month into "7" on a Samsung Q45 lapt. Bugs crop up in random order. As I have posted elsewhere here, the Screen brightness control does not work (does under Vista though) whereas the other Fn key controls do.
When waking from sleep mode, the screen is dimmed down to nearly dark. Regarding a response above to this same question, I doubt somehow that Samsung are going to address this. Their upgrades for this machine are not up to date and no doubt they will wait it out and see where 7 goes before looking at back issues. I hope to be proved wrong though. -
I sure hope this is a bug in the compression time estimate:
If it's not, then Windows 7 will be well obsolete by the time it finishes compressing those files!
Running Windows 7 32-bit in a Sun xVM Virtual Box with all default settings except an Intel PRO/1000 MT Desktop (NAT) network adaptor. Trying to compress my one hard disk drive, C:\. It is making progress through the files, thankfully, so I don't think it will actually take 97 years. But the estimate hasn't changed since it started. If it is still going tomorrow and says 35369 days I might be a bit concerned. -
You could wait
.
-
Well, good news. I went to lunch, came back, and it was finished. Looks like it's nothing more than a case of the time estimator being off by a factor of 2.5 million or so.
Fastest 35,000 days I can remember, though.
