Ok I have an incredibly annoying bug. I set cleartype settings the way I want, log out then log back in and its fine. Then if I ever restart or shut off the computer and log back into windows my cleartype settings have been reset to the uncalibrated defaults.

My DV4's HP Protect Smart Drive doesn't work in Windows 7. HP Support still can't find out why.

Windows 7 just BSOD's on me again.
Error message: STOP: 0x0000001E
I just uninstall a program that was causing errors in the event log but I don't think that was the cause. I also removed an ASUS utlity I installed yesterday prior to the BSOD's starting.
I got new RAM on Friday, as a safety precaution I will run MemTest86+ tonight even though the two BSOD's I've experienced do not appear to be caused by memory issues.
Updating my BIOS as well. -
I hate the annoying "the folder/file can't be deleted because it is using by xxxxxxx".
After some research, I found it is not really a "BUG". It is more like a windows feature(to protect stuffs) but end up annoying.
Need restart to fix it when it appears(very often). =.=! really wasting time. -
Anyone having issues with explorer.exe completely crashing when trying to access stuff from the Start orb?
-
Is this fixed in the final version? My Yahoo Messenger doesn't have a superbar icon anymore.
Also, in Jump Lists, sometimes I get shortcuts like "Mozilla Firefox (2)" or "iTunes (2)". -
I seem to have broken the Desktop Window Manager; or just WMP12.

Anyone still having problems with ATK drivers? Trying to make a list for myself about what to look out for.
=3 -
So make sure you check disk for errors, you feel onto one, re-install Windows 7 to ensure that no other OS level files are corrupted. (Ensure also that your optical drive is very clean upon re-install ).
Make sure you have the latest BIOS, and motherboard drivers for your systems. And finally, try and rule out any software that does a conflict with explorer, such as software that adds items to explorer (ie: new items in the shell menu, for example), also try to remove any software that contains DRM to isolate the problem.
Oh and check for spyware, virus and malware, and then see if it's not your anti-virus that conflicts with explorer. -
I've had this and it seems others with the GM45 graphics from Intel

Does anyone else lose the TASKBAR once the computer comes back from sleep.
My taskbar always disappears. -
Do you have the official Win7 release, and which version do you have (32 or 64-bit)? Sorry if you already mentioned in a previous post, but I can't remember it nor can find your last post, if any. -
only the taskbar
i have window 7 pro x64, its the $30 digital rivers download. i did a clean install from vista 64
thanks,
it looks like i'm in ONLY person with this problem?? -
This seems to be an issue with an update I installed from the Windows Updater: at first when I installed 7 the taskbar would function as normal, when you clicked on an application the window would appear and the taskbar would have that window's preview button (I'm not completely sure what to call it) at the location where the application was pinned to. Now, after running windows update everytime I launch any application all window preview buttons appear to the right of the pinned application icons, basically making the icons a quick launch bar.
I have the taskbar set to "Stack only when full" but it worked when it was set like this before. Anyone know how to fix this? -
I can't get iTunes to sync with my iPod properly. After playing around with it, I finally got it to recognize the iPod but it freezes when I try to sync. I've been struggling with this all evening but nothing is helping and I can't find answers after hours of web searches. Any one else come across a good solution to this problem?

I have two laptops randomly generating bogus Hard Disk errors in the event log. Problem has been confirmed by others on MS Technet.

Apple fault. -
So yeah this is definitely bug worthy. -
Also, on a separate issue, my computer loads up a lot slower than it did with Vista. And it shows me as not connected to the internet for a long time but I think I am actually connected for much of it. I'll have to check but I'm not going to keep restarting the comp now for a trivial matter. -
-
Well I restarted and as soon as I open a webpage it shows I'm connected, so there seems to be something keeping the icon from displaying the connection until I actually make the attempt to connect. And my audio device was now listed as not activated but it was. As soon as I adjusted the volume, it displayed itself normally.
And this time I timed how long it took to log in. After entering my password, it took 18 seconds before the desktop came up. Sure, that may not sound long but it rarely took longer than 2 or 3 seconds before the upgrade. Even then I'd say it was never longer than 10 seconds, if even that much.
Once I'm logged in, everything seems to work fine and seems a bit speedier than with Vista, from what I remember, it just takes a bit longer getting it all loaded up in the first place. -
I made Windows 7 work, just like that - install, windows update, and that is all (missing drivers as the hardware is so old it only has XP drivers). It's a AMD Athlon XP 2000+ on a nforce 2 with a Geforce 2MX, and 512MB of RAM, and with everything basic installed (web browser, plug-in, music player, etc...), it sound like it's faster to boot and startup than you, and again all the drivers except the wireless card is missing drivers. -
Definitely classified as a bug. Windows 7 doesn't like certain USB Pen/HDD devices. I followed this annoying problem and figured out my problem regarding the 'Disk Errors' I was recording.
It appears my USB Pen (OCZ Diesel 16GB USB) drives is sending an interrupt to the hardware and W7 recorded it as a Disk Error.
edit: Insert Diesel USB Pen drive = 4 Disk Errors in the Event "System" Log. -
Not really a bug, but anyone notice that the Bluetooth page still has it's Vista look (greenish left sidebar)? Noticed this after pairing my phone through bluetooth, and double clicking it through devices.

im starting to find really annoying quirks and bugs in window 7
1.clearing recent places by right clicking it on the side bar on explorer or clearing the links manually by deleting them in the link folder puts a recent places icon on the desktop.
2. window media player monitor every thing in my library fine, then poof, ablums, video, picture, went missing from window media player. i didnt even modify any of the folder any way. have no idea how this happen, its so annoying that i have to rebuild my library, grrr.
Zune software handle monitor a lot more better than window media, shheeees. -
-
for window media player, i definitely do not check retrive info on the internet, because i tag and put album art on all my mp3 files manually.
im thinking it could be media center messing things up, because i did check the option to retrive info from the internet.
but if i check that off, i wouldn't get the new feature like internet tv, sports update and netflicks. -
Hello everybody,
I experienced a problem with my Sony Vaio model VGN-SZ61XN_C: in speed mode the processor simply goes off. No hope to go on but turn off my laptop. I'm checking while in stamina mode and till now everything is going well. Any idea?
Sorry, my OS is Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit
UPDATE on 8/11 the problem appears also when in stamina mode!!! HELP PLEASE! -
Not a bug but a problem...
I installed W7 x64 and the volumen throttle of the multimedia buttons has stopped working... -
hey, I'm using VaiO SZ-75GN/B which has graphic card Geforce 8400M GS, when I clean install Windows 7 x64, I couldnt manage to find how to install the driver for my video card...so I temporarily change to windows 32 bit...anyone can help me fix this?
-
Anyway, Nvidia is the company that makes Geforces... So head up to Nvidia.com, download your graphic cad drivers for Windows 7 64-bit, once downloaded, install it and your done!
Here is a direct link to it:

Enjoy! -

thanks man, but I've tried to download that the driver for 64 bit (win7 and vista) from Nvidia website... when I installed, it just appeared to the installing screen then an error popup said this installation must be in 64 bit platform... dont know what's wrong...
Maybe I just stick with 32 bit for a while...
Thank a bunch! -
To be able to use 64-bit drivers or 64-bit software, you need a 64-bit Operating System. An Operating System (OS) is a computer software that control and communicate with your hardware, manages processes other software, provide a secure environment for software, and MANY MANY more things. It also provides you a fancy user layer, called an interface for you to use your system with ease. An example of an Operating System is Windows.
In short: An Operating System makes sure that when you print a file, it doesn't end up as random sound out of speakers (naming only one out of many many many many many many many other task it performs). Vista took 6 years of intense development with thousands of engineers... now you know how complicated an Operating System is, and how it's WAY more than just fancy graphics and cursor on the screen)
To be able to use a 64-bit Operating System you need the following:
- A computer that fits the power requirement of the operating system in all aspects (RAM, disk space, video card, CPU speed, etc...).
- A CPU able to execute 64-bit long instructions, such as a AMD64 (x64) CPU architecture. Example of these are: Intel Core 2 Duo/Quad, Core i3/i5/i7, AMD Athlon 64/Athlon II/Phenom among many others. View the processor manufacture website to know if your CPU is 64-bit compatible.
If you have a 64-bit CPU but decide to run a 32-bit Operating System, then the CPU which follows Operating System instructions, will never receive any 64-bit instructions as the 32-bit Operating System doesn't know 64-bit CPU specifications, operation code, CPU instruction format, let alone how to submit any 64-bit long intructions. Therefor, the CPU locks down to a 32-bit CPU. In other words, you just threw away money out the window. It's like Buying a Formula 1 car and only driving in in 30Km/h school zone.
A bit, is a binary number. It can be either 1 or 0, where 1 is 'there is a current passing", and 0, "no current". You can see this as a light switch... 1 means that the circuit to turn on the light is closed (light bulb is ON), 0 circuit is open (light bulb is OFF).
Circuit Open: There is a hole in the circuit so current can't pass.
Circuit Close: There are no holes in the circuit, current can pass
CPU's (Central Processing Unit), is the main processor of your computer in charge in executing instructions. CPU's has essentially 2 modes: normal and supervisor mode. When under supervisor mode, it will execute critical and sensitive instruction in managing the system. Operating System is THE ONLY software that use this mode. CPU's cam also perform mathematical calculations, and basic logic (in programming that would be: 'if' statements, or, and, not equal, equal, among others)
Example:
PHP:var input;
var output = 0;
[...]
if (input == output) {
print("They are the same! :)");
} else {
print("They are NOT the same. Try again!");
}
The term "32-bit" or "64-bit" processors are just general terms to saw how many bit's long instruction it can take. We had/have/will have: 8/16/32/64/128/256/512/1024... - bit processors. We are "64-bit" for the CPU, right now in terms of Desktop/laptop computers that me and you use.
Longer the instruction is, the less power it needs to execute an instruction, and perform instruction in less cycles (you know cycles speed in MHz or GHz (ie: 2.0 GHz)).
Why not jump to 512-bit CPU's right now! You may ask.. Because, it's currently extremely expensive, let alone don't have the technology. The early desktop 64-bit CPU (released in 2003), was introduced by AMD (hence why the real processor architecture name is AMD64 for computers we know and use everyday), and they used to cost about 3 000$ JUST the processor... you have the rest of the computer to buy (memory, motherboard, HDD, speakers, monitor, computer case, optical drive, etc...).
So in short...
To be able to use ANYTHING in the 64-bit world, you need a 64-bit processor and Windows 64-bit (or Linux 64-bit... but of course it won't run Windows applications as they have nothing in common on their core level).
If you ordered your laptop with a 64-bit CPU and decided to get a 32-bit Operating system.., without a specific exact reason that you can't live without, then I don't know what to say other than you screwed yourself. To unscrew yourself, in your case, get Windows 7 64-bit. -
I guess this was already mentioned but, is there no fix for Sort By None missing in Windows 7?

Hope this helps to somebody (and sorry for my bad english!) -
This is not possible anymore on Windows 7. -
Not sure this goes here but I seem to have an issue with trying to connect to a shared folder on another machine. Now on my xp and even my vista machine I can connect to that folder.
The folders are on my server, 2003, and it has got me stumped. And it is not just for this machine since on my other desktop is 7 as well -
Trying to network things from Vista or Win7 to XP/2003 is a headache. If you manage to get your Vista system to connect without issue to your XP/2003, then it's just pure luck. The same story occurred when people passed from Windows 95/98 to 2000/XP. If all your systems are 2008/Vista/Win7, everyone is happy.. put a 2003/200/XP/NT4/NT3 in the middle, and then that computer will have networking issues, as the kernel is different.
-
ugh i mean its not a killer issue but it kind of sucks. I guess I could load server 2008 on the machine but I sort of prefer it with 2003 since its alot nicer
-
I had no problem connecting to a PC with W2K .It made everything automatic. This is the first OS that i just had to put the cable to the router and click find the network.
