when you finally start to understand that the differences between win7 and vista are very low and use the identical code most of the time, and the identical drivers, you would realize how much of a fool you make of yourself by spreading such crap.
next time, you should buy an apple, as there, it's really the hippness in itself to believe "all the rest is crap".
know your roots, man, know your roots. they are vista roots, 100% of them. win7 is great? only because vista is, too.

Windows 7 x86 7201 at the moment. Thinking of getting 7600 and just putting the serial key in October and living on the re-arm thing. Is that allowed (I have no MSDN account)?

Windows Vista for me.
I don't fancy having to fight with Win 7 on a Vaio.... (Vaio utilities and the like) -
I use Vista Home Premium SP2 on my notebook and XP Pro SP3 on my desktop and HTPC.
-
kthxbye -
Dude, this is exactly what I stated at the beginning of the poll, tell us your MAIN OS, not every single OS you are using on all your other computers
no offence meant -
the real battle is between XP,Vista and 7 -
I see some shops (they're just small, not big ones) here in the Philippines that still run on Windows 98

As I already said, I'll give Win 7 a try later again on my second partition, but I still need time to do it which I don't have at the moment.
Sadly not every software which runs on XP is compatible with Win 7, the same with the hardware, especially if you want to install the 64bit edition. Especially if you use not so well known hardware it's often difficult to find working 64bit drivers for it.
And I have problems with Acrobat. Just because you can't use the features in Acrobat I use, because you don't have the hardware to use it, does not mean that the problem does not exist.
I also don't know with which OS you've compared your power consumption but in XP my PC goes down to 7 Watt easily, with Win 7 RC it does not go below 8 Watt.
If you run a lot of background tasks which often tax the CPU and your PC can never really idle, then, for sure, you won't notice a power consumption difference. And there it's also possible that 7 wins, compared to older OS, because of a more responsive power management. However, if the PC really idles 7 consumed more power than XP, which is a big problem for me.
It's possible that it's just a driver issue, however as long as this isn't fixed it will get difficult for me to switch. -

Why is not Linux considered in the poll for primary OS? hehe just wondering
-
-
Windows Vista is my primary OS, for at least the next 2 months until Windows 7 officially hits the consumer market. It's been running solid for quite sometime now, especially after SP1.
-
i think xp going to be officially Dead once windows 7 on the market for everyone
im going to throw xp in the garbage on October -
(Although that would possibly take Win7 too) -
-
hooked up with windows 7 , i only use vista for acedemic purposes..else...its W7 FTW
-
I haven't voted yet. Right now I use Vista as my primary OS, but in a few weeks I think I'll be switching over to Windows 7 on all my machines.

just trying to get this poll complete -
windows 7 pro x64 on desktop, and windows 7 pro x86 on the laptop

Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit RC for me. I'll probably skip the RTM and go strait for the retail version.

no offence as well, you're just quite funny -
Depends on what I define my "main" PC.
My notebook runs Windows Vista Business. My work PC runs Windows XP Professional. My desktop PC runs Windows XP Personal. -

For me it is Vista Home Premium. Since I am scheduled to buy a new laptop close to the end of this year, I will wait till then to have Win 7 (most likely the Pro Edition) clean installed on the machine. Where I am located, we generally buy a laptop (in my case) with a basic linux OS installed and then buy the OEM version of the OS we want directly from the re-seller. I did that with my current machine. For some odd reason, the total cost comes in a bit lower. This way I get a clean install of the OS and what is left is to transfer the files etc to the new machine. I am hoping that if there are any major issues with the final release of Win 7, they will be sorted by Nov-Dec. But given what I have been reading on Win 7 thus far, it seems unlikely that there will be any major issue.
BTW, I did vote Vista. -
My current laptop (Alienware m3200) has horrible Vista drivers, so I'm still on XP Pro. When my DOA G51 gets replaced, I'll install the Win 7 RTM because I want better SSD support, and that will hold me over until I either install the Win 7 upgrade or Windows Server 2008 R2. Haven't decided which one yet.

I am running Windows 7 Professional (64-Bit), 0 problems so far!
I only had an issu with the Ultimate version of Windows 7 as the ultimate version is still on RC, and not RTM, so I downgraded to Professional to be able to run the RC which doesn't have an issue with IE crashing randomly -
I voted Vista btw, since I use it on my desktop. I use Windows 7 on my laptop but I use my desktop more, thus my vote going to Vista. -
and I don't need to back up anything to prove it to u.....i dont work for MS Marketing thank u -
You do something you enjoy and it seems like 1 hour passed in 10 minutes.
You do nothing at all and the past 3 years are a blurr (personal experience) - or a flash.
Humans aren't objective in this respect. -

One you use Windows 7 for yourself, youll know what im talking about and you'll thank me:
1) Installation time, within 20-25 minutes you will have your Windows 7 desktop ready for usage!
2) Boot time is half that of Windows Vista
3) Battery life is 10% better than in Vista (new power management features such as DIM screen)
4) Compatibility better than Vista, I have yet to come a single application that doesn't work with Windows 7, even if it wasn't writeen for Windows 7
5) System responsiveness within Windows......
I don't know how games perform better, hope someone can shed a light on us.....
and I don't know how to prove what I said to you. but tell me something, is it realllly that hard for you to try the RC for yourself and uninstall if u don't like? it would take u very little time to test it out, especially with toda's image backup software such as Acronis True Image, you could be back to using Vista within 15 minutes should you not like Windows 7 -
-
4 - You are wrong again because Windows 7 is built upon Vista. -
Windows 7 boot time is 45 seconds! -
-
-
No need for me to install anything but Windows Vista right now so that had my vote.
When windows 7 is out then I'll be getting my legit family pack. -
Windows 7 x64 Ultimate RTM - Currently using the SLR 30-Day Rearm to stay within the grace period though
Kubuntu too in a dual-boot with 7. -
davepermen Notebook Nobel Laureate
but it's okay
the only real difference in performance in win7 is, if you're below 2gb ram, win7 works better. but as this is a 5$ fix, it's a non-issue.
and now, get your facts straight, stop FTW, and "n00b" and all the other geek-language that was so fun in 1994, and grow up.
vista and win7 share the same code, and if you don't know what that means, it means they are TWINS, they perform about identical, and have about identical features. the only thing that changed much is the gui, and it didn't changed according to microsofts own usability guidelines, but only from the marketing department "we want appleshiny".
but i like you, you're quite fun. you just have really a lot to learn. it'll take some years. -
davepermen Notebook Nobel Laureate
and chances are big that win7 has
a) no driver for that crappy bit of hw at all, or
b) a newer one which doesn't block the boot.
update your drivers on the clean vista installation, and it should perform the same (or disable just everything for some testing in the bios or strip it out of your system for finding what makes the boot slow).
a core2duo 1.2ghz, that's really slow, can boot vista in 30sec. -
i have to disagree no way vista can boot quicker than 7, and i think maximus used the wrong wording, he said its twice as fast (not true) i think what he meant was twice as good (totally plausible)
anyway i voted for windows 7
I run Win 7 RC 64 bit and Vista HP 64 bit on my desktop
and Win 7 RC 64 bit and Vista HP 32 bit on my laptop
ive kept my vista so i dont have to migrate twice and i will install Win 7 retail over the RC as soon as its released and then gradually migrate and ditch vista (although ive never had any probs with it, it just seems so old and dusty compared to 7) -
-
so my statement to after all this, and i'm not arguing with u anymore coz it's a waste of time trying to make u jump on the teh 7 bandwagon and give u a better experience for your computing usage..........
WINDOWS 7 FTW!!!!!!! -
