Not knowing the files W10 hid makes the statement just a bit unsubstantiated. Then again the thought of the possibility is just so wrong. I hate to say it but this is one software that needs to be the biggest failure ever.

If you search "microsoft can disable your pirated games and illegal hardware", you'll find other sites quoting similar stuff, each with their own references .
EDIT by ADD ON:
Looks like Windows 7 and 8 latest UPDATES have already installed these keyloggers as well /facepalm

I haven't found the links that spesifically says "these are the updates", but if anyone does, PLEASE SHARE for everyone.

Well as far as unapproved hardware I know of some Samsung laptop that updated bios and all of a sudden lost the bootrec on W10.

That's why I don't update IE either because it is bundled with IE 10 or 11 so if anyone has IE 10 or 11 firstly they won't see the KB2670838 update since it has already infected the system when the use updated their IEMr. Fox likes this. -
I don't remember what it was that I had installed a while back (some benchmark or game) that required it be installed to run. I haven't removed it yet because I'm not benching the R2 any more since NVIDIA hasn't released a properly functioning driver for GTX 780M SLI since February. KB2670838 also greatly impairs performance in some cases and has even broken AVI playback in Windows Media Player. It's one of the many reasons I originally decided to completely disable Automatic Windows Updates a little more than 2 years ago.
I need to go ahead and uninstall it again just as a matter of principle.Spartan@HIDevolution likes this. -
Whats the supposed update that must be avoided in windows 8.1?
i think there's a way to uninstall it in windows 8.1, but I haven't seen the exact update.
What I got after downgrading was a lot of windows defender updates and some security updates, but I couldn't pinpoint any.
Should I post a screenshot here so that you kind folks can help me to identify the culprit?

Make sure you don't have any of these installed or if you are doing a clean install, make sure to hide them. They won't all appear so you must scan carefully with your eyes to make sure none of them appear after you have installed a few updates.

Well I am finally home, Windows 7 HP that is. The reversion went like crap. locked up on restart, after 1 hour forced a hardware reset then is sat stuck reverting with no system activity for another hour. Punted to the system image but now the calendar for live mail was corrupt. What fun 21,000+ emails ha to be retrieved from my iSSD. I first tried that to the HDD, what a mistake that was.
Well a few hours of arguing with the system and the primary one is back. Tired now but tomorrow is the secondary system. Eventually the secondary will be for the Windows productivity apps, DVD backup and pictures. Eventually the main system should be Linux mint.
I just do not see M$ backing off all they have employed and I see the situation is worst everyday. Some consumer group needs to place a serious boycott on this and a severe class action against M$.
Now if they do a total reversal on all those insane policies, I may be back.Spartan@HIDevolution likes this. -

it makes 8.1 (& 7) really look excellent in every way, realizing (after testing most iterations of 10) that 7 & 8.1 are even better than I thought they were :O)
7: very good
8: catastrophy
8.1: very good (with a few addons & deleting store\app bloatware)
10: catastrophy -

Example, on my previous ASUS G750JX craptop, if had the Atheros driver installed for Windows 8, if you attempt to upgrade to Windows 8.1 without first installing the WLAN + Bluetooth Drivers of Atheros that were meant for 8.1 you could end up in a non booting laptop. This problem caused lots of headaches at the ROG forums back in the day as I remember. -

. But several of these could not upgrade to Windows 8.1 with improved functionality because the hardware was not compatible with Windows 8.1 (only with Windows 8). The only alternative to these people was to go back to Windows 7 or XP. Technically speaking, the Windows 8 and 8.1 are two different os.

Nah, it's just a bloatware service pack that should have been called Update 1 and Update 1 should have been called Update 1, Service Pack 2. I used all of the same drivers from Windows 7 for 8 and 8.1 and they all worked for me. Maybe I was just lucky and had the right configuration. But they really had no option except to pitch it a something new because Windows 8 was such a dismal failure. So, they pulled strings in a effort to fake us out and pass it off as something awesome. They had so many abortions to fix you almost had to have the Windows.old folder to make it work. They cannot afford this many repeat failures, and they don't deserve any more second chances.

M$ played to their consumer base and Tech people right up to the RTM of 8.0. Making it appear they wanted the PC and other devices to live together in a type of harmony. Then then just before the RTM the hammer came down, gadgets gone, no start menu, forced metro, aero glass done for etc. etc. etc..
Then 8.1 on the dismal failure of 8.0 and that was not of too much help. Colossal driver issues there hampered it even further. At least though with add ons it became somewhat tolerable.
Now With W10 they will push the PC as a device further. Not only that but a device that is under their control. One that also feeds them your information for their consumption. There is no longer anything you can do on a PC that is private or sacred anymore. Essentially you purchase the hardware to hand it over to M$ for their bidding.Mr. Fox and Spartan@HIDevolution like this. -

Hey guys, just thought I would share this:
http://www.extremetech.com/gaming/2...-singularity-amd-and-nvidia-go-head-to-head/2
It seems that, according to the first and only available DX12 benchmark, that DX12 doesn't really bring any performance improvement to Nvidia's hardware (when properly optimized around DX11) and a strong unlocked CPU with large core count (i7 5960x).
What is stressed in this article is that Nvidia has up until this point invested heavily in driver development alongside software and game developers, resulting in DX11 performance on par with DX12 performance (using this CPU, there may be an advantage with CPU's of lower core count or with the inability to do HT).
AMD, on the other hand, is as of right now what appears to be the sole beneficiary of DX12 API (again, with a strong CPU of high core count) whose R9 Fury X is now on par with Nvidia's GTX 980 Ti, unlike testing under DX11 where it lagged by 170% at 4K.
Have a look for yourself. Just another reason to not buy into the Win10 kool-aid (at least if youre on Team Green, if youre Team Red then this is an argument for "ugprading" your OS).Mr. Fox and Spartan@HIDevolution like this. -

Edit: and wouldn't you know it...
NVIDIA: We Don’t Believe AotS Benchmark To Be A Good Indicator Of DX12 Performance
Just looking at the type of AotS game is (RTS), I am already totally disinterested in that title. I don't play games like that... ever. Kind of sucks that the first DX12 title is the RTS genre. I hope that is not an indicator of what we can expect more of with DX12, LOL.Last edited: Aug 18, 2015 -
"Tread Lightly" Oxide tells Nvidia, as though they've been (rightly so) restrained in defense of this nonsense Nvidia is peddling about "AotS is in it's pre-alpha state and therefore not optimized". The same countenance exists in the original Extreme Tech article with a similar opinion of the matter by that site; that Nvidia has no way to explain for the lack of DX12 improvement other than AMD hasn't been very good at optimizing their drivers (thus far) around DX11 and that now DX12 removes this hurdle and equalizes the playing field for both vendors.
What is equally troubling about the wccftech article you pointed to is the comment from Oxide that DX11 was "....quite terrible at first and that went on for a few years".
A couple of years? I was hoping there would be some example of DX12 improvement like this holiday season, hopefully with Star Wars: Battlefront but if AotS is any indication (I actually think this is a good indication) possibly only those with CPU's of lower core-count and / or the absence of HT and / or an AMD GPU may benefit from DX12.
I'm absolutely not upgrading now. I think the revelations that DX12 brings next-to-zero performance improvement for those with Nvidia hardware and capable CPU's are going to be momentous.
I read recently that only 1/3rd of Windows 7 users have actually "upgraded" to 10 (despite M$ pronouncements to the contrary). I'm willing to be that many of those yet to make that leap were waiting to see the hub-bub about DX12. Well now that there is a solid early indication that the gains to be had will only benefit those with certain CPU's or AMD hardware M$ is probably going to have to reconsider their stance on a lot of what the public does not like, and will not tolerate with their OS, particularly the bits about forced automatic updates and their ability to have access to and share details of your personal life with governmental officials and corporate affiliates, let alone rumors of them being able to outright deny you access to pirated software (something I don't entirely have a personal issue with, probably the only thing with 10 that I don't).
Watch M$ announce Win 10.1, without the nanny-ware options and forced updates to try and compel the 2/3rd's of us on 7 who refuse to budge now that DX12 is realized for the flop that it is (for at least 70% of hardware owners, AMD lost market parity years ago).Mr. Fox and Spartan@HIDevolution like this. -
Oh well... it's really hard to get excited about things. I suppose having a closer to level playing field between red and green GPUs is a good thing if that spurs NVIDIA to flip the switch and put some distance between itself and the competition again, but they've been doing so little for so long because they could get away with it that it's not even funny. What, for 2 or 3 years now their only real competition has been their own products from the previous generation, and that's really horrible for everyone. I've still got a nasty taste in my mouth from all of the screwed up AMD MXM cards I've had, but we are way past due for NVIDIA to get jack slapped. Fury gets closer than anything else has on the desktop side of the house, but since since it appears that the Fury doesn't overclock very well, that's not even a good choice. Here's hoping they pull a fast one on NVIDIA and surprise us all with something amazing, and then do it again in MXM form factor... and actually be reliable/durable rather than failure prone.

I am also glad I was able to open the eyes of some who may or may have not missed the points mentioned in this thread because the irony with Windows 10 is, when you first install it and boot to the desktop, it actually feels nice, you feel like you just got a new toy....then the more you play with it, the more you see what a disaster Micro$h4ft created and gave the world for FREE! As you can see Win 10 is the same junk as Win 8.1... Micro$oft fails to make an OS that has the correct information about the hardware. Same as Win 8 and 8.1. Microsoft has only tinkered a bit on Win 8.1, but done a lousy job. A sad future we're going to get. How can Microsoft approve all hardware and (software) to their os when they do not even manage to create an OS which reads the correct hardware information?
