Same here. I have never set my internet as a metered connection, ever... including this time. But BOTH systems were that way from a clean install to unallocated disk space. One has Killer and the other Intel WiFi, so not a driver bug.

Filth, just like week old baby diaper diarrhea baking in a dumpster on a hot summer day. I hate Skype as much as Cortana and SkyDrive malware they embed in Windoze OS X Facebook Edition. These are not PUPs they are DUPs (definitely unwanted poop).Lynx2017 and Spartan@HIDevolution like this.

I know it does not happen to everyone, but that still does not explain why it happened to BOTH of my systems when I never touched that setting, or why having metered connection set to off did not correct the registry values. I tried toggling it on and off again to fix it and that did not work, so I had to use a bigger hammer (NSudo) to beat it into submission.
Maybe it is some kind of signal from my ISP (Cox Communications) secretly communicating with Windoze OS X, because those greedy bastards do impose a 1TB limit per month.Last edited: Oct 10, 2017hmscott likes this. -

did you use O&O Shutup10 in addition to the bloatware free ISO? you need to broDonald@Paladin44 and Mr. Fox like this. -
I do not use W10 without it. It is too risky to use W10 without it. I always disable everything with it (all sliders green). I do not need or want anything that O&O Shutup has a toggle switch for.steberg, Donald@Paladin44, Lynx2017 and 2 others like this.

I haven't tried MR 7's Restore feature speedup but I can say its fast. MR 6 restored everything in 5 mins including Windows and Linux.
I have setup Cortana on my phone, instead of piping up info every time, I just look at Home Page and everything's there for example: News, Weather etc...Donald@Paladin44 and Mr. Fox like this. -
Same for me, I just block all. Except for notifications, so I can use ZoneAlarm or Bitdefender firewall on Paranoid mode, controlling everything and anything that tries to connect to the internet.

So if I can ask, and I'm not sure if this has been asked before, but how does this image stack up to an image like this?

Are they basically the same in the end or does one have more features disabled than others? It seems like this Windows 10 lite edition v3 has a LOT more things removed, but at what cost would this be to the individual if they still wanted pretty good functionality on the computer.Vasudev and Donald@Paladin44 like this. -
Seems like the same thing as using MSMG Toolkit and doing everything yourself. There could be some hidden nasty stuff considering we do not know how trustworthy the source of it is. Also looks like they did an activation hack, which isn't good and raises some questions for me. (Doing it yourself for experimental reasons is one thing, but advertising and flaunting it is another.) As far as functionality goes, everything good and great is a third party program that is not included in the OS, so Windows will have whatever great stuff you install yourself. If you are the type that uses a lot of the UWP stuff, you can just install the stock ISO and use O&O Shutup and abbodi's scripts to kill the malware pieces of W10. You can also uninstall the included free UWP trashware apps by right-clicking on their icons.Last edited: Oct 10, 2017Vasudev and Donald@Paladin44 like this.

I have MR7. It's not much different than MR6. It has a few new features that are worthless to me (one of which I have disabled because I hate it).
It is a bit faster on image creation and restoration, but not worth the money I paid to upgrade my licenses from MR6. I do not do incremental images, and making a full image or doing a total wipe and restore isn't a whole lot faster than MR6. The backup and restore that only addresses the files that have changed is absolutely a whole lot faster--only seconds as Brother @Phoenix said--but, I prefer to nuke everything and start over fresh and clean with full sector-by-sector restoration using a known good disk image whenever a problem surfaces. All of my data files are saved somewhere other than my OS drive, so data loss is a non-issue.
Macrium seems to be kind of slap-happy with the updates lately. They release updates almost every other day. Every time I open it I am prompted to download an update. Not sure what the deal is there. Whether they did a bad job on the initial release and are having to chase their own bugs or what.
I think it is easier to leave my phone sitting wherever it happens to be and just say "OK Google..." but either way it's pretty Orwellian. I suspect Siri, Cortana, Google Assistant and Alexa are all eavesdropping for the NSA. I really hate it on a smartphone, but eavesdropping is an intolerable and totally unacceptable breach of trust from an OS on a PC. What the EULA says is irrelevant. It should be illegal and unconstitutional, and the EULA deemed against public policy (thereby null and void). Nadella needs to go to prison for it.Last edited: Oct 10, 2017Donald@Paladin44 and Vasudev like this. -
My phone has mid range CPU so I cannot wake up her up saying "OK, Cortana". I disabled Siri and G Now! on iphones and Androids.
Even I prefer using full backup on PC with SSD and on HDD incremental backup/imaging is a time saver. Took 3 hours to backup my older lappie with HDD and on SSD 10 mins (w/o verify) and 30 mins with verify.Mr. Fox and Donald@Paladin44 like this. -

yeah I never doe incremental backups as well. One base image before installing any drivers or software but after configuring my OS/libraries/settings and that' all I need.

Newer updates for Creators update are up https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=kb4041676
Known Issues:
1. Systems with support enabled for USB Type-C Connector System Software Interface (UCSI) may experience a blue screen or stop responding with a black screen when a system shutdown is initiated.
2. Installing KB4034674 may change Czech and Arabic languages to English for Microsoft Edge and other applications.
I'll wait for couple of days until update for USB C is released. -

OK, now this is extra stupid. The metered connection crap with Outlook just suddenly and unexpectedly started happening on my third system (16L-G-1080) for no apparent reason. It is not running RS3 (still RS2). I had to use the same tweak to stop it as I did on the fresh installations of RS3 on the other two machines. Nothing I did to change any settings and it has never, ever, done this before. So, something retarded is definitely going on under the hood of the OS.Vasudev likes this.

@Mr. Fox Instead of using Macrium Reflect, what are your thoughts on using Active@ Boot Disk to replicate your current image into an .adi format? Boots off of a flash drive into it's own little OS. I am not sure. I use Macrium Reflect for image/backup because it is the most reliable (and fastest) product I have found. It boots WindowsPE and also allows you to create a residence recovery system without having to use an external flash drive (either way works well). I have had imaging corruption and failures with Acronis, Easus, Clonezilla and others I have tried. But, I am not familiar with that one. It may be OK. If it is not OK and you run into problems, the free version of Macrium Reflect is all 99% of us need. The extra features in the paid version are worthless and unnecessary for most of us.hmscott likes this.

I went back to Windows 8.1 tonight, WSUS offline updates, its just so clean and snappy and even feels cleaner/snappier than RS2 bloatware free edition which surprises me, I have no need for DX12 games, screw it. Using anti spy beacon, and bitdefender firewall on paranoid mode. i am surprised how much crap bitdefender firewall catches even over ZoneAlarm, just random crap... one was M$ office 2013 telemetry... like why does that need to talk to M$? why oh why... i don't have any office install btw, just LibreOffice. lol. Hm, so I reinstalled Windows using the latest version from the site, everything seemed to have worked properly this time and is missing cortana search etc and everything by default. I am having trouble activating Windows however and it is telling me my product key is not valid for this version of Windows, it is the same key I was using previously on the machine. I try to run slui 4 to open the other activation window and try to do it by phone, but when I enter the command nothing happens/opens. Any idea? I am using Win 10 Pro.
Edit: Well, this was a key I had bought online through Kinguin or something about a year ago for my Razer Blade when I bought it, I contact Microsoft about it not activating and they said it was blocked because it is pirated. Do I spent the full money to support m$ or buy another potentially pirated key, oh decisions decisions.Last edited: Oct 12, 2017Vasudev likes this. -

Question about Windows 10, I see some people when they right click the start button seem to have "Settings" removed from the list of options under task manager and have that replaced with control panel. Is this something the user can change and if so how, and is it possible to have both the Win 10 settings option available as well as the classic desktop control panel? Now that I have a bloatware free build working properly I will need to get it set up correctly but until I do it's a pain to find the control panel without the ability to search and I would love to have it as an option when I right click on the start button.
Also, if I ever want to reinstall Win10 on my machine, if I run the built in system restore in 10 from a bloatware free version, will it reinstall the exact same bloatware free build I initially installed or will it put a vanilla copy of 10 on the machine? -

edit- Wow, I did not know that this version of 10 added the feature that if you reboot it will auto open everything you had open/running at the time of rebooting. I don't know how often I will take advantage of that as I typically close everything down before I need to reboot but I had a few windows open and was reading back a few pages and saw it and said "eh what the hell let me restart" and it came right back up with chrome and everything else open again automatically. Pretty cool/potentially useful feature to have even if I prefer to securely close everything down before I reboot, but there's definitely times I don't always get to.Last edited: Oct 12, 2017 -

The default settings should be opted out of everything and opting in should require deliberate effort on everything, including Windows Updates. And, they should not be allowed to do anything to limit functionality for those that choose to opt out. Good example is the UWP XBOX game filth. Nobody should have to install the latest updates to use any of their cancer bloatware crap. It's none of their business whether the OS has been updated.Papusan said: ↑Microsoft Windows 10 Violates Privacy Laws, Lacks Consumer Transparency Says Dutch Privacy Authority

So I noticed that in your install .NET framework 3.5 (including 3.0 and 2.0) are not enabled. I attempted to enable them but it will not let me. Do you know what feature I need to temporarily enable for like 2 minutes to get these features on my Windows 10? I have some apps that won't run without them and I could not find an offline installer for 3.5 and older.
I should mentioned that the Windows Update Service is enabled under the Services tab.

Weird. I always use MSMG Toolkit to add .Net 3.5 as I have stuff that requires it as well. With Windows Update service running it should be able to download it. Open gpedit.msc and make sure the option to deny all access to Windows Update servers is not enabled. I use that for added lockdown after my OS setup, but having that enabled will not let you download anything from Micro$loth. Or, you can see if downloading the .Net 3.5 offline installer works.XiCynx said: ↑So I noticed that in your install .NET framework 3.5 (including 3.0 and 2.0) are not enabled.
