Brah, Maybe yoo have missed this one? Same also if you put the timer to 0. Who needs power savings? Have never used it on any of my hardware.

I prefer power savings when I use SSD. I'm on the move most of the time, so every power savings option counts.

Do you think this would be better for a gaming computer than Win7-64? Microsoft AntiVirus ok? This with ClassicShell will be my next install. Thanks

If you have Win 7-64 working, and your games are working, then stick with that. A bird in the hand, and all that common sense stuff :)

There is nothing but pain in Windows 10 trying to keep up with OS, driver, app updates to fix problems introduced by MS "fixes" / "changes" coming out on a regular basis - forced updates.

just in case anyone is interested: the extreme lite version by bobpony is very performant indeed, but its only for basic tasks. lots of issues installing programs and using built in functions. so instead, i did another fresh install, this time using the windows 10 lite batch files during installation found here:

    https://sourceforge.net/projects/windows-10-lite/

with these, win10 install was just around 7-8GB, ram usage below 2GB and cpu usage stable at 0% :D still, everything works as it should! so comes highly recommended ;)

That's good advice to always be careful with downloads, even from sites you expect to be solid and malware free - but in this case that's old news about Sourceforge, and it's been 2 years since anything has been posted about problems with the site and malware / downloaders - those articles you referenced are 2 years old - 2015.

REFORGED — Under new management, SourceForge moves to put badness in past
Adware installers and malvertising banished, the company looks to build user trust.
    SEAN GALLAGHER - 6/17/ 2016, 3:45 AM
    https://arstechnica.com/information...ent-sourceforge-moves-to-put-badness-in-past/

"It has been six months since the company formerly known as Dice (DHI Group) sold off Slashdot Media—the business unit that runs Slashdot and SourceForge—to BIZX, LLC, a San Diego-based digital media company.

Since then, the new management has been moving to erase some of the mistakes made under the previous regime—mistakes that led to the site becoming a bit of a pariah among open source and free software developers.

In an e-mail to Ars, Logan Abbott—the new president of Slashdot and SourceForge—said, "SourceForge was in the media a lot last year due to several transgressions, which we have addressed since the acquisition. Unfortunately, the media has thus far elected not to cover the improvements (probably because bad press is more popular)." In the conversation that followed, Abbott emphasized the transformation underway at SourceForge.

Abbott has an uphill climb, to be sure. The shifting nature of the software development world has made repositories such as GitHub a go-to for open source projects of all sorts, while the focus on application downloads has shifted heavily toward the mobile world. But Abbott said he believes SourceForge is still "a great distribution channel," and that developers will come back to host with the repository "when end users see us as a trusted destination once again."

Abbott attempted to start the process of getting people to trust SourceForge again last week with a sort-of Ask Me Anything session on Reddit's Sysadmin subreddit. His openness was well-received. But he and Slashdot Media may have a bit more work to do before they can shake off the damage done during DHI's tenure."...much more in the article...
The State of SourceForge Since Its Acquisition in January ( self.sysadmin)
submitted 11 months ago * by loganabbott
    https://www.reddit.com/r/sysadmin/comments/4n3e1s/the_state_of_sourceforge_since_its_acquisition_in/

    "Hi all,

My name is Logan Abbott and I am the President of SourceForge. My company acquired SourceForge in January of this year. Someone posted a link to our newly launched speed test today, and in the comments people were not aware that SourceForge was acquired, nor were they aware of our recent improvements and developments:
    https://www.reddit.com/r/sysadmin/comments/4n2x3e/the_new_sourceforge_internet_speed_test_includes/
    ...
We acquired SourceForge and Slashdot in January from DHI Group (also known as DICE). The first thing we did after we took over was remove bundled adware from projects:
    https://sourceforge.net/blog/sourceforge-acquisition-and-future-plans/ and
    https://arstechnica.com/information...ent-sourceforge-moves-to-put-badness-in-past/

As of a few weeks ago, we also now scan for malware in case third party developers are adding their own adware:
    https://sourceforge.net/blog/source...r-malware-and-displays-warnings-on-downloads/
    ...
In the past, SourceForge has also taken heat for deceptive ads that may look like download buttons. To this end we have a full time team member that polices the site and blacklists deceptive ads that sneak in via programmatic ad exchanges.

And we have not announced it yet, but in the next couple of weeks we will be releasing a self-serve tool where users can report those misleading or deceptive ads that sneak in via programmatic ad exchanges so that we can blacklist them right away.

We're committed to restoring trust in SourceForge and building out some cool new features.
"...more from him in that thread + comments

It's been a long time since anyone has reported problems with SourceForge, and so maybe it's time to give them (the new them) another chance :)

    From 3 days ago:
loganabbott 7 points 3 days ago

"Hi, president of SourceForge here. My company acquired SourceForge in 2016 and have been improving significantly. No more bundled adware, all projects are scanned for malware, https downloads and project web hosting, & more. Big redesign coming soon too.
    Ars Technica
    Did an AMA here.
    Thanks, Logan Abbott"

didn't bother reading after your first line......

Once a thief, always a thief, I'll never trust them or come near anything from their site. In fact, their site is in my hosts block list as part of malicious sites blockage so that I don't accidentally download something that is linked to their site. Feel free to use whatever makes you happy. and if someone is willing to risk not an app from them, but an entire OS........ then may the lord be with them.

What are you talking about, we can't trust Windows 10 from the SOURCE - Microsoft!!

"Windows 10's Privacy related settings are just a ruse to throw unsuspecting users offguard so they think their privacy is being maintained.

Repeatedly, it has been demonstrated by various researchers that they are meaningless and do not fully prevent your PC from doing unwanted communications with numerous Microsoft and third party computers."

Regardless of your privacy settings, Windows 10 Creators Update phones home
    http://winaero.com/blog/regardless-privacy-settings-windows-10-creators-update-phones-home/

"Another research done by an independent IT security analyst shows a number of privacy issues in Windows 10. Even after you have properly configured Windows 10 Creators Update using Group Policy in the Enterprise edition, the operating system may disregard these settings and continue to utilize your bandwidth and "phone home" to send data."

"It's always been this way. Windows 10 never respected those settings. They're there just to make it seem like you're in control so you don't verify.

This is why your first choice should always be just not running Windows 10. If you absolutely have to be running Windows 10 then install a 3rd party firewall and use a deny-by-default (a.k.a. a whitelist strategy)."

You are making a big deal over avoiding a reformed company, with new owners, new management, 2 years of clean operations, yet you are pushing an OS that we all know is compromised far worse than any individual malware or adware has ever been in history.

Windows 10 is the Malware, Adware, Spyware, believing anything else and pushing forward using it thinking you can control it's phoning home is ignoring long established facts that Microsoft just keeps pushing on with getting telemetry back, continuing to make it worse and worse.

Sourceforge is a Saint next to Microsoft.

I bought an NTLite License guys. Once I receive my license key, I will be making a new Bloatware Free ISO hopefully with a smaller sized ISO since NTLite has better post cleanup features to make the ISO smaller. It also knows what order should stuff be removed integrated in so it's much easier.

    Stay tuned [IMG]

You will need to test the ISO however, NTLite sometimes breaks Windows in some odd ways, however, if done correctly it saves tons of RAM.

NTLite version is a lot slimmer and snappier than MSMG version. @Phoenix have you tried ESD conversion, that will reduce the size by 40%. Use Enhanced Windows Update cleanup and tick re-use device drivers option in NTLite.

    ISO is smaller.

So far everything seems cleaner as the NTLite tool performs proper post cleanup of the removed crap so you don't get error messages about file associations upon the first boot up

I have to redo it though, I stupidly removed the sharing wizard thinking that's something to do with HomeGroup and now sharing folders/files is a pain in the butt.

    Please standby

Being able to completely turn off network sharing, permanently, would be a good thing. Windows keeps re-enabling it at odd times - I have to keep checking. Eliminating the network sharing ability completely would be optimal.

no can do, some people need it. I want to make a lean and clean ISO but not remove OS core features that people may need

after formatting 5 times, I finally got it done with testing. I kept getting errors here and there due to removal of a lot of stuff like Biometrical features or BitLocker so I had to start over again.

It's working 100% fine now and a lot of the user privacy settings in PC Settings will be disabled by default. I've also enabled the ThisPC Icon to show by default and removed the initial Cortana welcome screen although Cortana itself is not removed due to compatibility issues so feel free to disable here using O&O Shutup10

I'm very much looking forward to this image!

I tried your previous release last night, but unfortunately I encountered the start menu search issue right from the start. There appears to be 2 issues going around related to this matter: the one is where users don't get any search results back when typing something in the start menu, but the search bar at the bottom still displays with the text you are searching for, and then there is similar issue but this one is slightly different because when you start typing something, it doesn't even show the search box at the bottom or begin filtering the start menu, it simply does nothing!

I've seen this issue on my previous windows 10 installations and I think it either happened because I was trying to remove or disable Cortana, or it was perfect some sort of malware causing this issue. To fix it, it requires DISM and extensive other repair tools which isn't worth it!

So I'm very keen to see if this image works :)

One question: The video you posted in port (#1) on this thread, the one that goes for over 1 hour where you make several performance tweaks to windows, are those tweaks already applied to these builds, or was the video just a tutorial for those who wish to tweak windows after installing your image?

    Cheers bro!

Installation time will be extended by 5-10 mins depending on the level of compression, USB drive, CPU, SSD/HDD.

The start menu search will never work in this build due to the telemetry and other stuff being disabled. But feel free to try as in this build Cortana is not removed. I never use the start menu search you mention since I have Classic Shell and it has is own search in it.

The tweaks in the video are tweaks, not pre applied by the ISO since many of those settings are user dependant not OS dependant, meaning, they have to be applied on every newly created user account

    @Phoenix.....

With all the contributions for software optimization, drivers and OS guides you contribute, you are approaching rockstar status IMHO on the boards....

In other words, thanks! All your contributions are greatly appreciated.

This might be a stupid question, but this this build make windows 10 run any faster? Or is the main purpose of this build for improved privacy?

both, actually. removing all the crap brings improved privacy but also less cpu cycles being eaten up by the OS and less ram being used :)
