Windows 10 KB4515384 is now causing audio issues on some PCs windowslatest.com | 12, 2019
“Something has gone totally wrong after September 10 update. The sound from my $2,000 PC setup has literally stopped coming. And it’s impossible to play games without the freaking sound. I have tried reinstalling the audio drivers, but it didn’t work. Guess I will have to remove this update,” one of our readers wrote in the comments section.
How to fix audio issues after installing Windows 10 KB4515384
It looks like the audio problem goes away if you change Windows Audio format to 16 bit (DVD quality):
- Right-click the Sound icon on taskbar and Sound settings.
- On Settings page’s Related Settings section, select Sound Control Panel.
- Right-click the Default device on the Playback tab and select Properties.
- Go to the Advanced tab and change the setting to 16 bit (DVD quality).
- Click on OK to apply changes.
If the aforementioned solution doesn’t work for you, another way to resolve the issue is to uninstall this patch:
- Open Start menu and navigate to Settings.
- Click on Update & Security and navigate to Windows Update page.
- Click on View update history > Uninstall updates, and choose the update. In this case, you have to select KB4515384.
- Click on Yes when asked and restart your device.

Happy I still have my other computer on v1803, and happy I couldn't update the to the latest Cumulative update for v1903 even with the kind help from Ultra Male.
Don't need any more stress from Microsoft giving us more headaches and using us for Guinea Pigs to test out whats fixed and whats broken, more broken I'd say than fixed.Papusan likes this. -

The problematic update is KB4515384 for Windows 10 1903. It contains some security enhancements and protections against a new subclass of speculative execution side-channel vulnerabilities (similar to Spectre and Meltdown), so it is not one that you want to roll back. However, some users have reported quieter audio in several games, such as Apex Legends and World of Warcraft Classic.
According to Microsoft, this a side effect of a change it implemented to improve compatibility.
"At the request of some of our audio partners, we implemented a compatibility change that enabled certain games to query support and render multi-channel audio. Due to customer feedback, we are reverting this change as some games and some devices are not rendering multi-channel audio as expected. This may result in games sounding different than customers are used to and may have missing channels," Microsoft said.
Yeah, Maybe start test your updates before you throw it out? -

Window 10 1903 OOB Update Released to to Fix USB Microphones bleepingcompters.com | Sept 14, 2019
Microsoft has released an out-of-band update for Windows 10 1903 that fixes a bug that could cause USB Audio 2.0 microphones to stop working.
This update came out of nowhere as there have not been a lot of complaints that I have seen regarding USB microphones having problems with Windows 10, but Microsoft yesterday released an update that fixes this issue.
According to the support bulletin, this update will fix an issue where Voice Recorder and other apps will be unable to use USB Audio 2.0 multi-channel microphones.
Microsoft Acknowledges Wi-Fi Bug Hitting Windows 10 Version 1903
Devices now blocked from upgrading to version 1903
Microsoft has just acknowledged a new bug hitting Windows 10 version 1903, as some devices equipped with certain Wi-Fi cards might no longer be able to connect to wireless networks after installing this latest release of the operating system.
The software giant says the incompatibility issues hit machines equipped with Intel and Broadcom Wi-Fi adapters, and when the whole thing occurs, users end up seeing a yellow exclamation mark near the network icon in the system tray.

What is Microsoft currently doing wrong with the updates?
good Morning September 15, 2019 14:40 20 comments
Currently, Microsoft is facing one problem after another instead of gradually eliminating problems. Feels like it happens that only problems are produced. But you always have to relativize everything
There are a lot of problems in the media, but they also affect the insider versions. So not affect the normal user. But what was "done" by the last official updates, one wonders, where has the quality control remained.jc_denton likes this. -

It was released today and is just a small security fix for Internet Explorer. Doesn't hurt to install it.
It will come some time in the future if you wait in some other cumulative update but I prefer to install these out of schedule updates on the spot. I've been lucky enough to have never had a problem with any Windows update.
I had confidence it would install without issues because it was the same as last week's Cumulative update but only has this new Internet Explorer security flaw fix. -
anyway, M$ plans to release the upcoming update for 1903 - KB4517211 (build 18362.385) either later this week thru WU and MS Update Catalog or by the end of September since that one is currently in the RP ring.Spartan@HIDevolution likes this. -

KB4517211 and KB4520390 as SSU (Manual Download) Windows 10 1903 18362.387 and 1909 18363.387 deskmodder.com | Sept 26, 2019
[Update 26.09.]: Microsoft has updated the KB4517211 again. As a result, the version number changes to Windows 10 1903 18362.387 or Windows 10 1909 18363.387. Depending on which version is installed, the 1903 or 1909 will be updated.

Installing the Win10 1903 second Sept cumulative update, KB 4522016, prevents installation of .NET 3.5 askwoody.com | September 26th, 2019 at 09:13
Looks like our Keystone Kops patches are turning into bumper cars.
You may recall that MS has released “optional non-security” third monthly cumulative updates for all versions of Win10 except 1903. Presumably, 1903 will be blessed with its third cumulative update today.
I’m seeing reports on patchmanagement.org that installing the second cumulative update — you know, the one that’ll protect you from the big, scary, exploited, emergency-patched IE security hole CVE-2019-1367 — makes it impossible to install .NET 3.5.
Uninstalling KB 4522016, installing .NET 3.5, then re-installing KB 4522016 seems to do the trick.

KB4515871 .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8 Windows 10 1903 and 1909 are available as updates (26.09.) deskmodder.com | Sept 26, 2019
In short: Microsoft has released a new cumulative update for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8 for Windows 10 1903 and 1909. According to the support page, Microsoft recommends installing the update.
Comes automatically and not optional, so you have to install it. The changelog is relatively short.
- Base Class Library (BCL) Fixes a problem that affects the thread conflicts in BinaryFormatter.GetTypeInformation by using ConcurrentDictionary for multi-threaded access.
- Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF)
- Fixes a problem that affects a WPF ComboBox (or any selector) within a DataGrid cell that may try to change its selection properties (SelectedIndex, SelectedItem, SelectedValue) when re-virtualizing the cell's data item or from the underlying lying collection is removed. This can occur if the ItemSource property of the selector is data bound by the cell's DataContext setting. Depending on the virtualization mode and the connections declared for the selection properties, the symptoms may include unexpected changes (to zero) in the properties of the data item and unexpected display (as zero) of other data items that reuse the UI previously attached to the revitalized item has been.
- Fixes an issue where a WPF TextBox or RichTextBox element with Spell Checking enabled crashes and in some situations returns an ExecutionEngineException error, including the insertion of text near a hyperlink.
- Fixes an issue that affects Per-Monitor Aware WPF applications that host known or unknown subwindows that run under .NET Framework 4.8. This .NET version crashes occasionally and returns an exception of System.Collections.Generic.KeyNotFoundException.
- Common Language Runtime (CLR)
- Fixes a problem that can cause handle leaks to occur in scenarios that repeatedly load and unload Mscoree.dll.
- Fixes rare cases that cause a process abort instead of providing the expected NullReferenceException result.

First MS releases out-of-band updates on Monday 9/23 but making them only available thru the MS Update Catalog site
The following day Tuesday 9/24, MS releases another newer set of updates, superseding/replacing most of the out-of-band security updates for most Windows versions but making these newer patches available thru WU, WSUS & MUC
and then today 9/26, MS releases a new set of updates for 1903/1909
"TIMING" is everything ya know - and yup MS is really "all over the place" with their TIMING of the way they've released new patchesSpartan@HIDevolution likes this. -

Patch Lady – the optional 1903 that includes the IE patch is out
Posted on September 26th, 2019 at 16:44 Susan Bradley Comment on the AskWoody Lounge
…and I’m not installing it. Which is saying a lot since I’m an Enterprise Security MVP and normally understand why Microsoft does what they do to keep us safe even though I don’t agree with it all the time.
Microsoft just released https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4517211/windows-10-update-kb4517211
And released a servicing stack update https://support.microsoft.com/en-us...update-for-installing-windows-10-version-1903
For those keeping track this is the “D” week release, meaning it’s optional…. HOWEVER…. this INCLUDES the out of band IE update released on 9/23 which was not released on Windows update or WSUS and is only available on the catalog site. There are two side effects that have been noted and reproduced by several on the patching community ( can’t install .net 3.5, and early reports of printing issues). Support cases are still in the process of being set up so it will take a bit of time to get these documented as known issues or at least better understood if there are interactions going on with something else.
I still can’t figure out why the out of band update is NOT on Windows update or WSUS and if Microsoft is THAT worried about it being a risk for all of us, then I’d say they need to get their act together and fix WU and WSUS as deployment mechanisms.Spartan@HIDevolution likes this. -

Reports of problems with HP printers after installing the second Sept Win10 1903 cumulative update, KB 4522016
Posted on September 26th, 2019 at 15:42 Askwoody.com
FYI: I installed the updated Sept 2019 Cumulative Update for Win10 x64 [1903] and it broke me printing to a network HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M180NW.
Since I also installed the Adobe Flash update, along with the .NET update for Sept 2019 at the same time, I thought it may be one of those, but through uninstalling all, and installing 1 at a time (Cumulative last) and testing printing between reboots, it was isolated to this update.
I have since uninstalled KB4522016 (the update with the IE Zero-Day patch) and installed the KB4515384 predecessor and all is well.
The problem’s been confirmed.
That’s the second problem I’ve seen with the stunted IE-only patch KB 4522016.
We’re still waiting to see if the third September cumulative update for 1903 will have the same problems. -

"The recently-released non-security software patch KB4517211 for Windows 10 1903 breaks printers, and here is what you need to do to fix it"
- Microsoft released an optional update KB4517211 for Windows 10 version 1903 a few days back and while the update fixed a number issue, some users are complaining that the optional non-security update broke their printers.
- “After installing kb4517211 the print spooler kept crashing. Uninstalling the update and rebooting resolved the issue. Reinstalled to test and print spooler crashes resumed. In addition, the Start button would not work and reported a critical error. Uninstalling the update again fixed the problem. This is on Win 10 1903 RTM,” a user said on Feedback Hub

Reported problem with Start menu after installing today’s out-of-band IE patch

StartMenuExperienceHost.exe not running. Nor is ShellExperienceHost.exe, actually.

Got a response back from poster apsolutiNN, who describes the same problem. He was running Win10 1903 with the August cumulative update, build 18362.295. He apparently installed KB4524147, skipping the three September cumulative updates, and today’s patch froze his Start button. Rolling back KB4524147 brought the Start button back to life.
The original poster says:
18362.356 working fine. [That’s the first September cumulative update. -WL]

I consider myself a lucky fellow, as I have managed to avoid any major issues (and even minor ones) when installing updates for Windows 10, both big and small ones (*knock on tree flesh*). Others have not been so fortunate. Microsoft's most recent cumulative updates have caused a few headaches around the web, from printer and sound issues, to even a missing Start menu. On top of it all, e can add a VMware Workstation bug to the growing infestation.... micro$lope build new OS versions on top of old flawed versions. More like a house of cards with bad foundations. Can't be better than this! -

Avoiding the most recent cumulative update is no longer enough--now Windows 10 users have to worry that Microsoft hasn't fixed issues with previous builds of Windows 10 even as it releases new ones. Not that it matters to most people; KB4524147 was a required security update. Yeah, the Beauty of Modern Windows...
Will this month of patches be one of the worst (a nice 9 of 10)?
