Thanks, bro. At this point, I think I may just hold off and see what shakes out in time. I am not OK with AeroGlass not working. That one thing alone is reason enough for me to reject their latest abortion. I find the tacky look and feel of the UI (especially inactive window coloring) is too disgusting to put up with. However, I also had other things that were broken... Galax Xtreme Tuner and RTSS are two applications that I refuse to live without, and both of those had problems. I'd rather not deal with any nonsense.

I'll give this a going over in my seemingly never-ending quest to find the least sucky version of Win 10.
Seriously, I don't think I'll ever find a version that doesn't have freeze/stutter issues on my laptop.Spartan@HIDevolution and Mr. Fox like this. -

If you were hoping that a spate of problematic updates for Windows 10 might have caused Microsoft to up its game and improve quality control, think again; the KB4549951 update is just the latest to cause issues for users.
And this time around, the problems are pretty serious. In addition to BSoD crashes and connectivity issues, users are also reporting that their settings are being removed and files deleted.

Your build looks great and all, but for some reason I'm getting semi random 1sec freezes - even my mouse won't move. I seem to be getting a big CPU spike when it happens. At least I'm assuming that because my fan cranks up when it freezes and goes back down when the PC starts responding again. This was happening while I was clicking through the tabs on W10Privacy deciding what to enable (nothing had been enabled yet), so I'm not sure if that program is the source of the problem. IIRC however, I think this was the biggest reason I rolled back from 1903 way back when.
Also, Windows doesn't seem to want to remember the login credentials for my NAS. Any idea how to fix thatLast edited: Apr 23, 2020Mr. Fox likes this. -
What system do you have it installed on? I was having freezes exactly like that with the Tongfang turdbook and it was USB polling causing it. I started using a powered hub and that problem stopped. -
Today, so far, things have been running pretty well. I haven't have one of those freeze issues yet. Maybe my laptop was just cranky and needed a nap. -

I asked on MDL if the 20H1 build is the one that really mitigates the Spectre and Meltdown patch performance loss for Intel CPUs and here's the response I got, I don't understand this maybe you would:

Windows 10 20H1 RTM Download
Don't forget to unblock the file FIRST since it was downloaded from the internet, right click on it, go to properties, then hit UNBLOCK from the bottom then APPLY then OK
If you have WinRAR, you can right click on the ISO and choose extract to (with the name of the file as the folder) then simply run setup.exe to perform an upgrade!
You must re-do many tweaks after the update so I recommend doing all the reg tweaks again especially the disable driver updates, disable Microsoft Malicious Removal Tool, disable -shortcut affix, etc.
Then run the cleanup to properly remove the Windows.old if you're happy with it:

Here is good reason for anyone that is still using a HDD to upgrade to May 2020 Update
In May 2020 Update (version 2004), Microsoft has fine-tuned disk usage of Windows Search indexer to address high disk usage caused by the aggressive indexing process. Microsoft states that Windows Search can now better identify peak usage times and manage the indexer accordingly. It’s true, according to multiple tests we did on real hardware and virtual machines with different configurations.
The May 2020 Update is faster on HDD hardware, thanks to the reduced disk usage by Windows Search process.

The reason for this, according to Mary Jo, is a zero-day exploit that needs to be fixed in the new version of Windows 10 before it can be released to the public. -

Sincere apologies if this is not the right spot for this question. I'm considering upgrading to 1909 from Win10 1809. (system in sig)
@Spartan helped me tweak system after purchase from HIDevolution. Clean Win10 install. No Dragon Centre, no Cortana, no Nahimic, Win7 appearance.
Would an upgrade to 1909 override or wreck these tweaks?
A week ago, sound stopped working completely - no speakers/headphones. Tried multiple drivers including driver package from MSI for my laptop. Nothing.
Uninstalling then deleting installation files works briefly. On restart, Win installs 4/30/2019 Realtek driver (before I can do anything).
Sound works but for about a minute only (in both speaker/headphones). Then red "X" flashes on volume, and goes away. Says device is working properly but there's no sound.
I'm guessing conflict but no idea what. No recent installs. Rendered a video thru VLC but have since uninstalled VLC completely. Windows upgrade problem?
@Spartan made a Macrium image right after purchase/tweaks a year ago. Would restoring that image also restore drivers?
At my wit's end. I purchased the laptop for gaming and for work. It's useless without sound.
Again, very sorry if this is the wrong place to post this. Any/all suggestions welcome. PM if you like.
Thank you guys. -

1) Follow the guide here to disable Windows from updating your drivers
2) Uninstall the Realtek Audio Driver and reboot
3) Install the latest Realtek Audio Driver from MSI then reboot when prompted:
Before running or extracting any of the files you downloaded, make sure you read this: "Are you sure you want to run this file?" [Yes or No]
Realtek Audio Driver 6.0.8918.1 / Nahimic Driver v1.7.2 / Nahimic 3 App / Realtek Audio Control Panel
Install the Realtek HD Audio Driver first then reboot, then install all other drivers before connecting to the internet. Once you have connected to the internet, to ensure Nahimic works properly, update the audio components and reboot yet again before attempting to install the Nahimic App from the Windows Store:
Open Device Manager > Software Components
Then right click on each one of the following components and hit Update Driver and let Windows download the update automatically then reboot, Nahimic would work after that:
A-Volute Nh3 Audio Effects Component
Realtek Audio Effects Component
Realtek Audio Universal Service
Realtek Hardware Support Application
PS: Before upgrading to Windows 10 1909 (which is not recommended because it's an inferior build to 1809 and 20H1/20H2 are right around the corner) consider updating all your drivers from this thread:

In the last few days it was revealed that Microsoft has delayed the release of Windows 10 May 2020 Update until the end of May in order to fix a zero-day vulnerability. But even when this is patched, the build will not be perfect.
Microsoft is releasing Windows 10 version 2004 / Windows 10 20H1 / Windows 10 May 2020 Update knowing that it includes another bug -- one that will be fixed with a subsequent patch. -

) Windows was definitely updating driver without permission. Followed directions for disabling updates and running files.
Even though disconnected from internet, and uninstalled/deleted, Windows still put driver in (2019/09/04). But it worked and it's stable. I didn't tempt fate after that..

Right now, my general impression of verison 2004 is MEH. Comparing 1903/1909 — which are virtually identical — with 2004, I don’t see one thing that’s better about 2004. And, yes, I’ve read all the reviews – and written a few short ones myself. (Note: Preston Gralla has an extensive overview in Computerworld: Windows 10 May 2020 Update delivers little tweaks that add up to… well, not a lot.)
Yeah, on level with 1903/1909. The worst Win 10 version in history. What a improvement @Mr. Fox

Try this, open Computer, type *.PDF in the search then hit enter, (just as a test) and see how long it takes Windows to find all .PDF files for example. It will take around 60 seconds. Now try that in Everything, takes less then 0.2 seconds! Magic!

What I did was to delete sub-keys under defrgsrv or something which gets filled with garbage values after performing Defrag/TRIM with /K command or even normal /O command.
/K initiates Thin client provisioning which changes how data is stored for optimal stripe size.

I used to think being a Micro$lop butt-kisser was part of why Dell is circling the drain. That might be true, but tragedy upon tragedy feels more like an inherited vice or a copycat scenario than guilt by association.
What makes it the same tragic story is that it doesn't matter which one you are talking about, in both cases their broken garbage works as intended.Last edited: May 23, 2020
