Any LTSC version will lag behind with new introduced features. Gaming and whatever. The reason for going with LTSC is to avoid new features that slow down the user experience/useless new features/less bugs. If there is something you miss then make a dual boot with whatever newer OS you want if there is something you miss regarding gaming. It will come new LTSC versions but it will still lag behind the newest OS versions regarding newest features.

I doubt it would ever be an issue for general use, I could maybe see it in future specialist niche software but even then it'd be rare imo. I've had no problems with anything on my ltsc system from 2019 never updated. You're probably going to want to reinstall windows at least every 3-5 years anyways and keys can be found cheap.

I'm sure as long as a program/game reads that its Windows 10 it will run regardless of the build. I don't mind going from 2004 to 1809. (I also miss the OG default wallpaper from older builds but that's minor) I mainly use my PC for drawing/creativity and gaming, a majority of the games I play aren't even all that new like TF2.

You can always multiboot. I do. NVIDIA is a Micro$lop butt-kisser, so some of the newest features on 20 and 30 series GPUs require a newer OS. The reason for that is their deviant and devisive control-freak nature, not because the newer OS is more capable.

If you are not playing games that can use the features, don't care about the features, or don't have an NVIDIA GPU, then it doesn't matter.

If you multiboot then you can run the newer OS only when necessary, or use it as a disposable trash OS and keep the superior OS clean and pristine by only using it when quality and performance actually matter.

I don't use NVIDIA I basically have a full AMD setup when it comes to my CPU and GPU.
    Amd Ryzen 5 2600
    XFX RX 580
Both came out in 2017-2018 at around the time 1809 was the latest build I didn't even build this PC until 2019. Doesn't NVIDIA drivers require the Microsoft store or something? My PC is more than capable of running regular builds of W10 I just like having something small and lightweight instead. :)

You think about the Nvidia Control panel app for DCH drivers? Can be downloaded as standalone without going to the Store ( NVCleanstall) or find custom mods. Or just use Standard nvidia drivers with the NCP included. DCH drivers is Microsoft screwed way to try push people over to their Store. The more you use their apps the more they know about you. Avoid it.

I never really had much of a reason to use the Windows Store to begin with. Never really bought anything from there, lack of quality control when it came to apps. More of a landfill than an actual app store and a large majority of games can be found on steam or other places. I like Windows 10, just wish regular versions of Windows 10 were like LTSC. Lightweight, consistent and features you don't want to use are optional even if there was a version of W10 thats like LTSC but just had the MS Store loaded onto it and nothing not even cortana or anything else pre installed (except basic tools) then I feel like W10 would be better well received by a lot of people instead of locking this version behind enterprise only.

Just a report after approx 1\2 year with LTSC, been absolutely great, fast, low on resource usage, stable etc. Found nothing really needing to be removed so far, & only 2 additions, O&O + Open-Shell. But may test the very interesting 'lightened' versions mentioned in other topic.

Like the best pieces from w.8.1, w7 & w10 accumulated in one package :O)
Behaves exactly like an OS should (must) behave > the basis for running one's preferred and needed programs, no more, no less.

Edit: and big thanks to the guys here for pushing awareness of LTSC's very existence, and for all the related information and guidance.

Edit2: just renamed it: Long Term Satisfaction Channel.

Thing is who's gonna get their hands on a full LTSC 2022 ISO though instead of an evaluation copy? And wouldn't it be a while before people start getting product keys for it or nah?

I tried numerous times to get my PowerSpec 1530's laptop (Clevo PB50DF2) RTX 2070 Super to work with LTSC but never could. Nvidia drivers just wouldn't install. Tried Clevo-supplied Nvidia drivers, older & newer Nvidia drivers. Only generic drivers worked.

So I'm stuck with Pro ;(... and Arch Linux :D.

Yes, but having a "newer" version of LTSC is simply not necessary and largely undesirable. It is going to be slower if it is built on a newer version of Windoze OS X, so the chances of it actually being better are slim to none. PC enthusiasts tend to be their own worst enemy when they allow themselves to get caught up in the myth that newer is better Newer can be better, but it very often turns out to be inferior. Windows 8.X and 10 were both introduced as successors to Windows 7 and neither one of them is as good. CPU and memory performance decrease, while overhead and bloat increase with every release.

Only real reason why I would want to upgrade to LTSC 2022 is because of the newer hardware support since I will upgrade my CPU and GPU at some point. (But not right now)

I wouldn't assume that a newer version of Windoze OS X will be required for newer hardware support. I'd take a wait-and-see approach. It's not uncommon for them to lie about it, or fabricate the conditions that make it seem to be true. They've bald-faced lied about it with respect to Windows 7 not supporting the latest hardware and it's an absolute crock. They fabricate the impression of lack of support by not releasing official drivers. I still run Windows 7 on Z490. The function is flawless and the performance is superior to what the latest hardware delivers on Windoze 10. The only downside is the inconvenience they create with drivers by acting like Nazis. This is beyond the technical knowledge, skillset, creativity, and complexity appetite of normal consumers. To be fair so is something as utterly mundane as running Windows 10 LTSC or Linux instead of a mainstream consumer crap version of Windoze 10. Most people, including some that proudly refer to themselves as "hardcore gamer" just use whatever garbage ships with their pre-built crackerbox turd computer.

You can always downgrade to a newer build of Windoze 10 if and when you determine that it is actually necessary to support newer hardware. You definitely cannot believe it when the party that stands to benefit from it tells you it is required because they're simply telling consumers what is in their best interest for consumers to believe. Since they are never questioned or held accountable for being compulsive liars, they continue to get away with it.

Yeah I don't know it was just general info no real need to wait for it. The largest inconvenience about win7 is no dx12 but even now most games have dx11, most M$ games and probably on the sly M$ subsidized games are really the only ones that are dx12 absolutely required. But for a gamer that's a big deal for enough big games and as time goes by.

I get what you are saying and to a certain degree it is true. It doesn't actually need to be, though the Redmond Reprobates would love nothing more than for it to be true. DX12 serves no purpose but to exist as a Nazi control freak cash-grab designed to make gaming reliant on Windoze 10. Most games that use DX12 run better on DX11 and/or Vulkan. And, with Linux on the rise using Vulkan it's really kind of foolish for game devs to burn any calories on DX12. I know the Redmond Reprobates need them to in order to remain relevant on PC and XBOX, and I suspect they probably bribe them to do so. It would be the in the best interest of all gamers for game devs to just let DX12 API go and focus all of their efforts on using Vulkan API so that their games can be platform/OS agnostic. They'd probably make more money in the long run, too. Proprietary tech almost always sucks when you consider the big picture.

New doesn't mean better. Only more bugs. Remember Microsofts engineers use current OS as Guinea pig for the next version and everything being messed up. The next LTSC version is in short a newer OS version but with less bloat.

The latest Windows 10 update is causing new issues for some users

And they only fix the broken things that they are held accountable for. They don't really care about everything that is broken, they only care about what is broken so badly that consumers cannot accept it. Everything else that is broken functions as intended because they don't admit their mistakes except when they are forced into a corner with no way to lie their way out of it.

Fixing Windows (and other software) flaws is like the concept of repairing a cracked vehicle windshield. Nothing is actually fixed. It's still broken, but it's harder to see. And, it is only a matter of time until the right kind of stress occurs and causes the crack to grow. The repair simply masks or minimizes the problem and delays the inevitable. The hope is that the repair will last for long enough that the party that should be paying for a new windshield is no longer is required to pay for it. It becomes someone else's problem later on.

Agreed. Universal vulcan support would be great. Just to play games shouldn't be tied to one api, seems dumb to artificially limit compatibility. They'd sell more software too, win win imo. I'm actually surprised that this long after dx12 most new games use dx11 and don't require dx12. Even some games that say dx12 in the minimums will support dx11 if you try, worked on a few when I was still using win7.

I'd totally switch to Linux if it was as streamlined as windows for all software and hardware and had more support. Probably makes M$ shake in their boots and I think they throw a lot of weight around dissuading companies to support Linux users more.

If you were using normal DCH driver trash that most likely had something to do with it. The Redmond Reprobates and Green Goblin try to keep laptop owners on a short leash so they can abuse them in whatever manner tickles their fancy from one day to the next. They think they own you, but it's not necessary to allow them to. They try to force you into using DCH drivers for all laptops and if you don't have Micro$lop Store then you're screwed if you are not aware that there are better options. To get non-DCH laptop drivers you have to use the "Advanced" driver search that has been deceptively disquised as Beta and Older Drivers. On an existing Windows installation where DCH cancer has been installed, but sure to run DDU first to eliminate all traces of the trash before attempting to install a non-DCH driver.

    upload_2021-3-8_18-17-2.png

Even better... use NVCleanstall, choose the option to "Add Hardware Support" and input your hardware ID and you should be good to go. The even works for non-standard configurations where older laptops are upgraded with newer GPUs.

Wait, NVCleaninstall gets rid of the requirement for driver modding on older laptops? If so, that will make things less time consuming the next time I do a fresh install of Windows on my Ranger.

A good friend in the forum @KKthebeast is who first brought this to my attention. Using NVCleanstall he no longer has to fart around with INF modding on his M18xR2 with 980M. NVCleanstall does all of the work for him. Below is a screenshot that he shared with me in a PM when he was excited about discovering the feature. I would have also checked the box to Disable Driver Telemetry.

Since I have never used that feature, please share how it works out for your Ranger. One thing I am not sure about is if you need to insert the proper name of the GPU in the "Name" field (under the "id" field) to avoid having Windows call it "NVIDIA Graphics Device" in Device Manager. My suspicion is that if you do not provide the correct GPU name it will show up in Windows using that generic name. In fact, I suspect it will call your GPU whatever you insert in the Name field, right or wrong, just as you can tweak that doing your own INF mod. So, you could probably call it a "Green Goblin Gamerboy Graphics Device" and that is what you would see in Device Manager.

@Mr. Fox can you explain what the difference is with DCH and standard drivers? Is it just more telemetry and blanket performance limiting/managing via drivers? I've got DCH because of the OEM preinstalled win10H.

The only difference is that Microsoft have paid for all the trafic to the Microsoft Store (Hence they pushed for DCH drivers). + the hardware manufacturers can reduce the server trafic due smaller driver packages.

"The NVIDIA DCH Display Driver will install the base display driver components but the hardware support apps (NVIDIA Control Panel) must be reinstalled from the Microsoft Windows Store manually"

Yeah sorry for that I did get from a search that it just won't include NCP because it's general driver to work on all devices. I of course have no intention of using the M$ store ever so will need to eventually do a DDU and standard reinstall to get NCP.

The driver package for my gateway includes an NCP install folder but it's .appx format, not sure how to run that one. I did notice that NCP was missing sometimes, it would disappear but when I used NVSlimmer to reinstall it came back somehow.

I would also assume that DCH drivers would not be installable with an INF mod on a laptop with a non-standard configuration (after-factory GPU upgrade) because DCH drivers promote the Nazi control freak way of life that the Redmond Reprobates want all of us to abide by. After all, they know what is best for all of us and allowing them to control everything is what keeps us safe from the digital boogeyman. If not for them we would all be eaten alive by the Baba Yaga. All praise to Lord Micro$oft.

Just nuke everything with DDU and install normal (non-DCH) drivers instead.

Thanks guys, I will do the DDU eventually but that would require me to turn back on the hybridgpu optimus option in the BIOS then do all that because I think if I did it without that I'd get a black screen right?

When something has its origins in a metropolitan area of Washifornia, Oregonia, or California, nothing about its weirdness and stupidity is ever surprising to me. There are some good/smart people in those places, but they are clearly outnumbered, LOL.

Using DDU will revert your system back to a generic Microsoft display driver which will in turn allow for installation of the proper one from the manufacturer.

Hi All.... Well--- damn.... So pissed... Had a script running that needed to run all weekend , so i could check it on monday.. Last night-- my ltsc downloaded some updates and restarted on its own... fk you MS....

I thought for some reason ltsc didnt update unless I did it manually(which i did a few times).... Now it did it on its own..

I have a few questions regarding ltsc that I'm confused about, and hoping you guys wont mind me asking..

    1. I have the ltsc that was posted here.. Do i still need to go in and use O&O and do the items listed in the "windows 10 things to do" thread? Or is installing ltsc and just using it the way it installs how i should use it?

1b... if I should use O&O and do the things in the "do these things" thread,,,do i need to do them all in that thread? or is there just some main ones that will cover most of the important things?

    2. This question is towards mr fox... Though anyone can answer.. I see that mr fox NEVER updates--- im not one that cares about the latest and greatest... Though i do want my windows to be safe.. Should i just NEVER update my ltsc? Never ever? .. I just want a os to run and leave me alone-- and that is what i was hoping ltsc would do...

Am i just subscribing to the BS that MS wants you to think -- in that i need to run update to be "safe"...

    3. i see Papusan showing the updates with description...Am i supposed to install those he lists here, or should i just click on update in windows and let it update? Or is he just showing what they are-- but all the while not wanting me to actually install them ?

    4. I see that S.K has a thread with a de-bloated ltsc 2019(is this the same version that was posted in this thread before? just de-bloated?).. His de-bloating sounds awesome... Is it a good way to go or should i just stick with version in this thread here and de-bloat it myself? Or just leave it alone..

Im just a bit confused on what i should do... I want a OS that just runs... Yet i still want to update anything that you guys think i should update..

Last but not least.. If you dont think i should run the de-bloated 2019 version... is there a link to the current version listed in this thread that is working.. If my updating from before did something wrong-- i might need to reinstall my OS..

If you want to update... Only install the security patches. And never update once they are out. Wait a few days/1 week (A really bad/buggy update will always be mentioned within the 1t week after release on several tech wb pages). Rest of the patches I post is not needed. Avoid patches branded "Preview". As etc........

Papusan... Thanks for the links.. I ended up using stopupdates10 and O&O.. I figure those 2 things will stop the updates, and stop MS from talking back to the mothership.. I looked on that windows 10 tips and tricks page-- omg my head started to spin lol.. So just went with these 2...

Got the absolute impression LTSC is behaving so much better out of the box than all the 'others', needing much less anti-telemetry and tweaks to tame it.
    Great OS :O)

I tried using Nvcleanstall on my desktop first. I have to say I'm liking the tweaks it provided. Now I only have 2 Nvidia Container processes instead of 6-8, and there's no stupid telemetry that pops up to waste power anymore either. I'm definitely giving this a go on my Ranger next.

Today I learned that Windows 10 LTSB 2016 works with modern AMD drivers. I decided to test out an older version of LTSC using Windows 10 LTSB 2016 and had no problems installing drivers for my AMD Ryzen 5 2600 and my XFX RX 580.

It is an excellent tool, no doubt. I wish someone with the knowledge had the desire to create a universal driver modding tool that would all you to input a hardware ID and mod any driver to work on any OS. I don't care about driver signing. It is interesting that I have been using only modded GeFarts drivers (either my own, @j95 or NVCleanstall) since about 2015 and I've never seen more than 2 NVIDIA Container processes. Probably because I don't use the stock driver rubbish. I don't allow GeFarts Experience, Ansel and the rest of the payload of filth.
That is awesome. I would still be on LTSB 2016 except that I cannot get GPU functionality. I had no choice but to move to LTSC 2019. What is so retarded about this is that Windows 7 support has been in place and remains in place, but these control freak Nazi's in Redmond manipulate Windows 10 users as though they are brain-dead muppets. Maybe the fact that we use Windows 10 is all the proof they need that we are, in fact, brain-dead muppets.
