Forgot add in Win 8.1 into this new nice move (help their partners to sell more new harware/machines)
Microsoft is now blocking some third-party drivers in Windows 8.1, 10 and Server betanews.com | Yesterday
If you start to see the error message "Windows can't verify the publisher of this driver software" in Windows 10, it is because of a change Microsoft is making to driver validation.
The change has been introduced with the latest cumulative update for Windows 10 as Microsoft starts to block some third-party drivers from being installed. It also means that when you try to view driver signature properties you may see the error message "No signature was present in the subject".
Affecting Windows 8.1, every version of Windows 10 from 1607 up to 2004, and Windows Server 2012 R2 to Windows Server 2004, there is no workaround. If you find that you are unable to install a driver, or see any of the two error message listed above, Microsoft's advice is to "contact the driver vendor or device manufacturer (OEM) and ask them for an updated driver to correct the issue".
It's unlikely that individuals will initially have much luck prying updated drivers from manufacturers, but if enough people are vocal, perhaps Microsoft-pleasing versions will be released.

Microsoft makes it difficult to download Microsoft Edge with Firefox and Chrome
ghacks.net | October 19, 2020
Many Windows users use the built-in web browser of the operating system to download other browsers to their system. First it was Internet Explorer, then the classic Edge, and now the new Edge that has been used for that purpose. Microsoft is still in the process of pushing its new Edge browser to Windows systems, and many systems, for instance Windows 10 systems right after installation, still come without the new version of Edge.
Windows users who want to download the new browser, for instance after the installation of Windows on a device, may notice that it is not as easy as opening the Microsoft Edge download page and clicking on the download button displayed on that page.Vasudev, jclausius, cfe and 1 other person like this. -

Microsoft account locks: That's what the lawyer says ...
Posted on October 23, 2020 by Günter Born
I'll take an old topic out of the crypt again: It is about arbitrary Microsoft, because of alleged violations, blocked Microsoft accounts. I'm keeping the subject simmering with Martin Geuss - and Martin has now been able to ask a lawyer a few questions on the subject.
The position of the lawyer who represents the plaintiff in a German court against Microsoft Ireland is therefore clear. Microsoft is likely to draw the shorter in this process because of an arbitrary account lock.
That's the good news, now let's move on to the bad news. When Microsoft locks up, you first look old as a user. You can take legal action - which, according to Martin , can take between three to seven years because of the necessary march through all instances to the BGH. The lawyer suspects that Microsoft is first trying to clarify the individual cases as quietly as possible.
You can read more details from Martin Geuss in this article. At this point I would like to thank Martin, who is responsible for keeping the topic in focus and preparing it accordingly.

Since Microsoft made the announcement a long time ago, there will certainly be no outage for normal users. Unless you have drivers that are not from the manufacturer or have not been updated. The driver signature can still be switched off .

It's weird isn't it, coders/programmers have an ethos to strive for the most efficient code don't they, or is that an outdated notion.....maybe it's just driven by the marketing folks in Microsoft not allowing the coders/programmers to stand to their old ethos (by not giving them enough time or options), or did I just make all of that up!? I mean you can't expect new software to run on old hardware from a couple of decades ago, because there has to be some advancement of functionality over time that would normally be associated with increased processing power required but between 2015 and now (5 yrs) what kind of features do we have in Windows now that offer increased functionality that is justifiable for the performance hit? -
