The only thing that I do not understand is how will they cater to LTSC crowd. So they are going to build a new UI and a tool like Server Manager to customize or force all of them to use Group Policy and other Administrative tools directly ? I don't expect anything good with M$, they are a trash company the fact that how they abandoned Win7 despite being working on latest HW with no issues and even much faster than better than 10 except the challenging part of getting it installed, that speaks a lot. As we all know they fired Windows chief 3 years back (2018) and now it's under Surface trash garbage team (2020) who use Macbook junk and force the same ideology of dumb and dumber and dumbing down all the younger generation with soldered, glued down, planned obsolescene, spyware, useless products with sugarcoat like Apple products. Probably will have to wait and see how new LTSC holds up, adding Intel's idiotic Biglittle trash, I expect it to meltdown when Alderlake launches.

Note that LTSC RS5 is released in 2019 when Windows developers had no direction or organizational coherence. Now it will be made by that same Surface trash team, I really wonder how do those veteran NTKernel and other teams at Microsoft even think. Perhaps most of them are too old and left and replaced by the brainwashed yesman programmers. Makes a LOT of sense when we see UWP trash infestation going to sky high levels with that horrible DRM Xbox gamepass which even Desktop PC guys use, it has no modding, no filesystem control, no user control of data, no registry control, .exes wrapped and hidden, always OL DRM, Xbox Live DRM system, GaaS DRM / Service, OS level mandatory min spec due to Xbox DRM, no monitoring support (it has through that Xbox bloat gamebar and same with modding) to make it worse DCH drivers and telemetry. Their backwards compat is the only good thing coming out of that Xbox console to preserve good games since, ironically they killed a lot of good IPs Age of Empires, Halo, Gears of War.

Don't forget how unusable the new design is rounded kiddo OS and shows zero respect to human intellect in UX functions+quality as we notice insane lack of explorative options and even functionality itself, I remember during 98, XP & Vista days I always fiddled around with Start menu to find things out which is what kept me going all these years, and still does. Wish people stuck to Windows 7 despite the catapulting propaganda of M$ nagware and fearmongering to downgrade, using 8.1 since 5 years+.

Remember this ? (Win10 beating 7) - notice the tagline, just a year before official support ends LMAO, with the latest HW it just works and does much much better than Win10 and still gets non-spyware updates through community help.

Never experienced any sort of BS issue related to Windows. Rock Stable and to shock many It boots way faster and operates super fast over Win7 installation on the same HW (Win8.1 NTKernel upgrades can be really seen), while the latest and greatest HW among the Desktop users and latest $3000 products have infinite issues..even DX12 was a failure.

It's just very sad how M$ is ruining the fundamental concept of a Computer and an Operating system. All for money and power, such ill intent and sinister thinking only Apple and Microsoft have now joining them is Google.

Oh my... This profile based tuning OS was the one I kept suggesting in MS Feedback for insiders. I didn't use their Feedback app.
I do remember asking Mr. Fox what features did he need. I kept on writing benchmark mode, work mode and web browsing profiles. Mr. Fox was a realist and he did know these features might be axed since enthusiasts make up only small percentage of users worldwide. I think it took 4-5 yrs to see this feature show up in stable release or insider releases.

Microsoft show its stupidity time after time. Even stupid fanboys can see how this feature is meant to be used. And whom will gain from this new stupidity.

Windows 10's upcoming Device Usage feature is unfortunately not very spectacular ghacks.net | April 14, 2021

Microsoft is working on a new feature called Device Usage that it plans to integrate in future versions of the operating system. Device Usage is available in the latest Insider builds for testing.

    Closing Words
I can't see Device Usage becoming a particularly useful feature for Windows 10 users. It may prove useful to Microsoft, but users may want to keep it turned off or skip it during setup, if it is displayed there, as it is likely that it won't be of much use.

Microsoft is building a new app store for Windows 10 in major revitalization effort

M$ next move is to kill Win32 entirely by poisoning the well, they are going to do it by slowly allowing all the applications to port to that garbage store bs including UWP cancer and all, also remember Project Reunion unholy abomination of making UWP+Win32, they have a lot more than that simply, it has tracking system too my old post here read more. I think this is going to spearhead it, with Win10 forced updates and normie braindead consumers mindlessly drooling over the Win10 "updates" eventually with their Xbox Trashpass UWP system and XCloud GaaS, it will be the new norm only based on their sheer numbers of $ earned by subscription services, if not now their plan is to dumb down entire younger generation. See- Apple, their UI and product, same marketing and approach by M$ as well.

Since most of the PC userbase get their Win32 applications from their usual sources, and nobody is too dumb to rely on that crap store., they might integrate Xbox Gamebar and other Xbloat trash into it and make it palatable for people to jump on it. Remember their aim is to remove Win32 so that they can control entire PC. DCH is already doing it, next gen will bring UEFI only and more, like that Pluton chip nonsense etc.

    I hope this fails.

Everything coming from Redmond is broken. Download patches as standalone and install in offline mode with Network disabled. Always have the door closed (when you install patches). Use all aviable tools for the job. See also StopUpdates10 — New tool to stop Windows Updates

Do Microsoft engineers test out what they create? The lack of QC from Microsoft is equal bad as what you get from Dell. No wonder nothing works as expected. A new nail in the QC coffin.

Microsoft Autoruns is crashing when listing Windows 10 startups bleepingcomputers.com | Today

A recent update to Microsoft's Sysinternals Autoruns program is causing the program to crash as its scans for autostarts in Windows.

For those not familiar with Autoruns, it is a free utility from Microsoft that enumerates all the programs that automatically start on a Windows machine. You can then review this list to remove unnecessary startups, so your computer to run more efficiently by reducing CPU usage and memory consumption.

After Microsoft released Autoruns v13.99 today, users began to report that the program crashes soon after it starts and enumerates the Windows startups.

In tests conducted by BleepingComputer, when we start Autoruns, it will begin scanning Windows 10 for autoruns and then crash a few seconds later.

However, on Windows 7, Autoruns works properly and does not crash, so this appears to be a conflict with Windows 10.

BleepingComputer has reached out to Microsoft to see if they know about the problems and when a fix will be released.

NVIDIA staff suggests rolling back Windows 10 update to fix game issues bleepingcomputers.com | Today

An NVIDIA staff member has suggested users roll back to an earlier version of Windows 10 to resolve gameplay issues on devices using NVIDIA GPUs.

As first reported by WindowsLatest, in response to these complaints, an NVIDIA staff member suggested rolling back from March 2021's optional KB5000842 preview update to resolve the issues. KB5000842 contains the same Windows 10 changes as of April's KB5001330 update but without the security fixes.

"If you are seeing lower performance in games, check if rolling back Windows 10 Update KB5000842 solves the issue," an NVIDIA staff member commented in the NVIDIA forums.

To roll back from April's updates, users would need to uninstall KB5001330 and revert to March's Windows 10 KB5000802 Patch Tuesday update.

As April's Windows 10 KB5001330 update fixes over 100 security vulnerabilities, including actively exploited and publicly disclosed vulnerabilities, it is strongly advised that users not uninstall this update.

Microsoft will be releasing a new preview cumulative update today or tomorrow, and users can try installing that first to see if it resolves the gaming issues.

If not, it is strongly suggested that users try the latest graphics drivers or possibly even rolling back to older GPU drivers before even contemplating uninstalling security updates.

Microsoft is more interested in add in more features than fix their broken QC and shady parches filled with more telemetry.... Of course it will be like this when they put all resources on the wrong things.

Windows 10 News and Interests taskbar news feed rolling out worldwide bleepingcomputer.com

The new Windows 10 News and Interests taskbar news feed feature is now rolling out to Windows 10 devices worldwide.

Similar to Google Discover, News and Interests will build an interests profile for logged-in users based on their historically read content. News and Interests will use this interests profile to surface current news stories in the Windows 10 taskbar news feed.

Windows 10 KB5001330: Microsoft issues emergency fix for performance issues windowslatest.com - April 24, 2021

Windows 10 appears to be getting a new server-side update and it’s one that you might want to apply if you've been having any kind of performance issues, such as stuttering, flickering or text rendering issues when playing certain games.

The server-side update is gradually rolling out this weekend and you won’t see anything when you check for updates. Some affected users told us that their games are running smoothly after they checked for updates and restarted the system manually.

If you think the fix is not available for you, try launching the Settings app and manually check for updates. You don’t have to apply any updates from the Windows Updates. Once you’ve checked for updates and your device has communicated with the Windows Update server, you’ll need to restart the device.

Unfortunately, this patch is entirely cloud-based so it can’t be verified by comparing the OS version or build numbers. However, you can play those affected games and manually verify the difference.

If you can’t wait for the fix, you can always uninstall Windows 10 updates manually with Command Prompt and PowerShell.

Windows 10 rounded corners in the start menu and context menu - is again a matter of getting used to deskmodder.com April 28, 2021

There is no question that we will receive changes in Windows 10 21H2 with the new Sun Valley design under Windows 10. Microsoft started with the new icons in 2019. In March 2021 the whole momentum came.

It will be interesting to see when Microsoft will adopt these changes in Windows 10. Certainly some will not be enthusiastic. Yeah, the editor hit the nail on its head.

Windows 10 update fixes a critical bug that could mess up backups windowslatest.com - April 29, 2021

With the February update, Microsoft broke two features - Intel webcams for some users and File History (backup tool). While Microsoft acknowledged problems with webcams in a post on Feedback Hub, the company never admitted issues with Windows 10’s built-in backup feature.

    File History now works again

In a follow-up, users told us that Microsoft may have fixed the problem — without admitting it ever existed.

File History appears to have been fixed with Windows 10’s April 2021 Update, which means the backup tool now works again in Build 19041.928, 19042.928 or newer.

Personally don't care for rounded of sharp edges.

I just wish they would unify the damn GUI throughout the entire OS, instead of doing these incremental changes in certain updates, as it looks like the OS is still in active development instead of just being improved.

Announced in April, Windows 10's new taskbar feed feature called "News and Interests" is now available, but a lot of users are reporting that the widget is not enabled even after applying Windows 10 KB5001391.

Microsoft drops Windows 10X before it ever launched
By Mary Jo Foley for All About Microsoft | May 7, 2021 -- 13:51 GMT (06:51 PDT) | Topic: Windows 10

Windows 10X is likely not ever coming to market. Instead, Microsoft is putting its efforts into the 'new Windows' it is building around the 'Sun Valley' interface, according to a new report.

Microsoft is still expected to field a "new" Windows variant later this year when it rolls out Windows 10 with a refreshed UX. ( That UX is codenamed Sun Valley.) Given that some of the interface elements for Sun Valley seem to be similar to what was expected with Windows 10X, based on various leaks, perhaps Microsoft will simply look to the new Windows refresh as the best way it can take on Chrome OS.

See above... Rounded edges fits smarthphones. Yeah, Windows will never ever be a pure desktop OS. Unisex is todays word. Windows 10 goes towards an all around OS. Neither bird nor fish. Of course they will trash Windows 10X... They already have Win 10. A phone/tablet/desktop OS in one single package. Yeah, a real Unisex OS for the future!

"Microsoft had been struggling to figure out how to position and deliver Windows 10X for the past couple of years. Initially, Windows 10X was going to be Microsoft's Windows variant for dual-screen PCs, including the currently tabled Surface Neo. Then officials switched plans, deciding instead to debut Windows 10X on single-screen PCs, both clamshell laptops and 2-in-1s"

"Windows 10X, now little more than a UI revamp, could be absorbed into Windows 10"

Latest Windows 10 update issue is trashing audio quality windowslatest.com - May 14, 2021

After the latest Windows 10 updates, a number of issues have arisen, specifically for version 20H2, or the October 2020 Update. Microsoft recently confirmed that it’s aware of issues with game performance and it has already deployed a server-side fix for affected PCs.

Now reports have come through from users experiencing audio issues after the update and it appears that the Redmond giant is already investigating the reports. The bug has been reported after the May 2021 Patch Tuesday update, particularly Windows 10 KB5003173, which was released on May 11 for version 20H2 and version 2004.

    Windows 10 KB5003173 update fails with error 0x800f0922 for some users windowslatest.com - May 13, 2021

It's not just you: Windows 10 KB5003173 update is failing with 0x800f0922 for some users, according to numerous reports seen by us. While Windows Update typically offers a smooth update experience, it looks as though some users are having issues upgrading from April 2021 Patch to the newly released May 2021 Patch.

    It will never end

"Microsoft investigating new Windows 10 high-pitched noise issue"

    - Microsoft is working on resolving a high-pitched noise issue Windows 10 users hear when using some 5.1 audio configurations after applying recently released cumulative updates.

    - ... the newly acknowledged issue does not occur on systems where stereo audio is used.

    - The high-pitched noise issue only affects the Windows 10, version 20H2 and Windows 10, version 2004 client platforms.

-- Microsoft is currently working on resolving the known issue, with a fix to be delivered to affected systems in an upcoming release.

Microsoft officially acknowledges Windows 10X isn't happening zdnet.com | Today
Microsoft officials have admitted what leaked a week-plus ago: Its Chrome-OS competitor, Windows 10X, isn't coming. Instead, some of the 10X technologies will be integrated into other Windows versions.

Yeah, as I pointed out above. Why release a new phone/tablet OS when they already have Windows 10?

    Microsoft kills Windows 10X pcworld.com

Microsoft said that it has discontinued Windows 10X, its simplified version of Windows 10, and would repurpose its technology into Windows 10.

Windows 10 21H1 is released, these are the new features bleepingcomputers.com | May 18, 2021
Microsoft has released the next version of Windows 10 called "21H1", or the May 2021 Update, and it is available to users running Windows 10 2004 or later as an optional update in Windows Update.

However, Microsoft is now using updates from the Microsoft Store or the new 'Windows Feature Experience Packs' to update Windows 10 programs and services outside of the normal update schedule.

These updates will allow Microsoft to introduce new features rapidly for programs like Windows Terminal, Notepad, Windows 10 Start Menu, XBOX integration, the Windows Snipping Tool, and the Windows Subsystem for Linux.

Yeah, exactly what the users want.... "services outside of the normal update schedule"

This issue also impacts version 2004, 20H2, and the latest 21H1 since all three share a common core operating system and an identical set of system files.

0Patch provides support for Windows 10 version 1809 after EOL

As of May 11, 2021, several Windows 10 versions are out of support and have reached their End of Life, meaning they will no longer receive security updates in the future. Microsoft recommends upgrading to current Windows 10 builds, but not every user can do that. The security provider ACROS Security has now announced that it will provide security patches for Windows 10 version 1809 for one year. Here is some information on this topic.

Windows 10 update is causing issues with Microsoft Teams, Outlook windowslatest.com - May 20, 2021

Windows 10's May 2021 Patch Tuesday has updated the taskbar with the "News and Interests" widget but it looks like it hasn’t been without bugs and issues. Released on May 12, Windows 10’s May Patch Tuesday updates include security fixes for Bluetooth drivers and other core components, and it is installed automatically.

Unfortunately, some users are reporting a bug that effectively breaks Microsoft Teams and Outlook, but the good news is that the tech giant is aware of the issues. In an update to the admin portal, Microsoft confirmed that users can face login issues when connecting to Teams, Outlook, and OneDrive for Business.

Microsoft says it will revolutionize Windows 10 user experience windowslatest.com - May 24, 2021

Microsoft's getting ready for some "radical" Windows 10 design changes, according to series of job listings spotted by us. Microsoft has been working on a major design overhaul for a while, and the company quietly confirmed a “reinvigorating” update in a job posting earlier this year.

The job listing has been posted by Microsoft’s Interactive eXperiences Platform (IXP) Team, which is responsible for the UX of Windows and Windows apps. The team is behind the core composition, rendering and input platforms for the Start Menu, Office, Microsoft Edge and native Windows apps.

“We also own much of the Win32 API and infrastructure underlying all Windows features and apps. This team brought Touch to Windows, Precision Touchpads to Windows Laptops, and Windows Ink to the 2:1 device,” the job listing reads.

Don't fix what ain't broken! That screws stuff up!

At this point we have to be weary of any redesign anyone does for anything. I haven't seen many redesigns that yield an objective improvement in functionality. Most redesigns are just major annoyances that cause you to have to relearn stuff.
