Just ran a Cinebench @ 4.4 GHz. there is not a difference in the score between Redstone 3 and Redstone 4 and FYI Mr. Poopoosan, even though I installed Windows 10 Pro for Workstations as a clean install (not an upgrade from Home or Pro), I have not a Gaming Mode Performance plan

 

This build is snappier than RS3 and 0 bugs so far

Not sure, some muppet on MDL forums is telling me that he does have the Ultimate Power Plan but he upgraded from Windows 10 Pro on Redstone 3 to Windows 10 Pro for Workstation on Redstone 4.

Not planning on wasting a full day of formatting to see if installing let's say Home Edition first then performing an upgrade would help because you see, the thing is, even though this was a clean install, check my info:

Notice the CBS says Professional but before when I upgraded to Windows 10 Pro for WS using the store, it changed the CBS to ProfessionalWorkstation maybe that's my problem

 

I also have no idea. I am still using Enterprise N 2016 LTSB with no installed updates and plan to remain there indefinitely, along side Windows 7.

I'm running Win 10 Pro N - upgraded from my Win 7 Ultimate N key in December. I dual boot with both OS, but I only use Win 7 now for offline gaming or working. If I am not connected to the internet then no one can attack me and 90% of the games I play are offline, so why idle online 365 days of the year. lol

 

Seems like it. Although, the latest drivers are often not the best drivers. I do not normally install newer drivers unless I have to. If everything works correctly, newer drivers serve no valid purpose on my systems.

I hear you, bro. I do not like online gameplay, so I pretty much avoid that as well. I'm not worried about being attacked though. I just prefer Windows 7 because it is an all-around better product. I am questioning myself more and more now why I even bother wasting drive space on Windows 10, and the only real reasons I can identify are so I can run Time Spy and get slightly better scores in Fire Strike. Apart from those, I cannot really identify valid reasons that Windows 10 needs to exist, and if it did not, those two things would not matter any more. I definitely feel like any calories burned on Windows 10 at this point is a waste of time and resources that could be used on something more important.

 

Ok trying RS4 on my Sager NP9876 (Clevo P870KM-G) ..... installing now.... I just hope all goes as well as the desktop . These guides really help ... without these I would never attempt such things ! Thanks to you all!!

 

Redstone 5, the next feature update for Windows 10 coming in the fall, will be the last Windows 10 update to feature the "Redstone" codename.

 

Maybe you can use the other nice features for Pro workstation Maybe M$ idiots will offer special valuble apps for this version

Uh oh ran into issues... does anyone know how to fix the microphone issues with realtec audio drivers on this version of win 10 pro?

 

Yeah, my laptop has always had Realtek driver issues for last 8 months or so, I am forced to go to Clevo driver download page and use the original reak tek drivers from jan 2017 for everything to work.

what is your model number of Clevo/Sager? I will try to help you. PM me.

Just curious... How many secs difference are we talking about? What are your times with RS3/4 and What are you wanting the times to be instead ?

 

Basic app loading and UI response time is quite high even on PCIe SSDs.
TH2 and RS1 were the best. I feel Old is Gold.

So I've been tearing my head apart trying to figure out what am I doing wrong so that Im not having the Ultimate Power Plan on my Windows 10 Pro for Workstations, then finally after posting my detailed system info on MDL forums, Slave has answered me:

New improvement I noticed in Redstone 4, now the Defrag & Optimize Drives no longer shows drives that you are not able to optimize or defrag. Example, my 1TB 850 EVO + 4TB 840 EVO which are setup as as a single spanned drive where you could not run the TRIM command on them using the Defrag & Optimize in addition to the system partitions that Windows creates when installing Windows. Well, now only the drives that you can optimize are shown. Good job Microsoft! Finally, one positive change after you've literally destroyed this OS!

No, TS will be able to work perfectly w/o any issue with EPP/HWP setting. Hybrid shutdown may cause issues so disable it.

 

Any outstanding issue you noticed? Maybe it'll help. I will put it in Feedback Email from MSFT.

 

I compiled a custom version of RS4 RTM(Hope so) with Home and Pro editions and deleted N versions. So far, Home SL edition aren't there.

 

Nada! Perfect. Compared to Redstone 3, Redstone 3 behave like an Alpha with bugs everywhere, force closes when you're in PC Settings, lag, slow boot, this fixes it all. The boot is not faster than the old builds but definitely faster than RS3

I did ask them to disable Game Mode if the system is capable, looks like they removed the toggle button entirely.

Create the Ultimate Power Plan manually , choose High Performance then edit the config to the following:

Default settings for Ultimate Performance:

- Hard drive > Turn off hard disk after (0 minutes).
- Internet Explorer > JavaScript Timer Frequency (Maximum Performance)
- Desktop background settings > Slide show (Available)
- Wireless Adapter Settings > Power Saving Mode (Maximum Performance)
- Sleep > Allow wake timers (Enabled)
- USB settings > USB selective suspend setting (Enabled)
- Power buttons and lid > Power button action (Shut down)
- PCI Express > Link State Power Management (Off)
- Processor power management > System cooling policy (Active)
- Display > Turn off display after (15 minutes)
- Display > Enable adaptive brightness (Off)
- Multimedia settings > When sharing media (Prevent idling to sleep)
- Multimedia settings > Video playback quality bias (Video playback performance bias)
- Multimedia settings > When playing video (Optimize video quality)

Downloading Redstone 4 via the Media Creation tool using a small tweak:

How to do this?

1) Download the Media Creation Tool and place it in the root of your C:\ Drive

2) Download the products.cab and place it in the root of your C:\ Drive

3) Run Command Prompt As Admin

4) Type CD\ to go back to the root of C:\

5) Type mediacreationtool.exe /selfhost

The Media Creation Tool now will launch but will download the latest Redstone 4 directly from Microsoft.

to verify, while you are running the tool, go to C:\$Windows.~WS\Sources (it's a hidden folder) and double click on products.xml

It should say in the contents

<FileName>17133.1.180323-1312.rs4_release_CLIENTCHINA_RET_x64FRE_zh-cn.esd</FileName>

Is there something better or special about the Chinese version? Or, is downloading it from a China host the only way to get a direct download of RS4?
