Watch Out: Clicking “Check for Updates” Still Installs Unstable Updates on Windows 10 Howtogeek.com | Dec 12th
Micro$hit hasn’t learned its lesson. If you click the “Check for Updates” button in the Settings app, Microsoft still considers you as “ seeker” their valuable guinea pig and will give you “preview” updates that haven’t gone through the normal testing process.
There it is in Microsoft’s own words. Fortin says “advanced users” can get the preview releases by clicking “Check for updates.” These updates would normally not be automatically installed until they’ve been tested. But, after you click the button, you’ve become a “ seeker unpaid guinea pig” and not a normal Windows 10 user.
Once again, Microsoft is using everyone who clicks “Check for Updates” as a beta tester (guinea pig). Don’t click this button unless you want unstable updates. Your Windows 10 PC will automatically install updates as soon as they’re stable. -

I didn't know that! I mean I knew I'd get updates sooner in some cases if I click the Check Update button, but I always thought they were releases that had gone through their testing procedures and were already on the public rollout (under the understanding that they roll out the tested updates in waves to the worldwide computer base automatically), but this is new info to me that clicking on the Check Updates button means you're getting 'beta' releases. When did this distinction in the behaviour of the Check Updates button change, when was this change brought in?
I'm on the latest build 17763.168 since Sunday when I clicked on the Check Update button - looks like I got updated into the advanced guinea pigs! Not detected any issues so far though.Last edited: Dec 12, 2018 -
Very long time. I have always closed the doors and will only open up a small window for already downloaded standalone patches from Microsoft Update Catalog.Vasudev likes this.

Yep, I know you like to have total control of your operating system, I'm a bit more relaxed in letting Microsoft mess up my PC! In fairness though, I do use Macrium Reflect to do image backups every month, and I've been 'lucky' that I haven't had any major Windows 10 issues - I think the worst issue was that I used to have to reinstall my monitor calibration software (Spyder4Pro) after every MAJOR windows update, but this last major update to 1809 I didn't need to do that, so praps they've fixed that issue (unless 1809 wasn't a major enough update to mess it up).
Do you know when they changed that behaviour of the Check Update button though? -

Vulnerabilities in Microsoft accounts allowed takeover
Published on December 12, 2018 by Günter Born
At Microsoft, there are several vulnerabilities that allow an attacker to take over any Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Store, or Microsoft Sway account when the combination is done. It is enough if the victim clicks on a link. The vulnerabilities potentially affect 400 million users.

^^^ 92% off should be a minimum discount, in view of what windows has turned into.
Actually, MS should pay people victims to use candy crush 10.
On the other hand, for those who know how to immunize and disinfect the os, it's a good deal (if legitimate).Woodking, Vasudev, Falkentyne and 3 others like this. -

Umm I wouldn’t trust URCD Keys for giving out “official” Windows keys, they use volume liscencing keys not meant for resale, and MS does intermittently purge those keys so buyer beware. If it seems too good to be true it usually is. I’ve never bought from them but there’s enough info out there regarding this kind of scam.
If getting an illegal liscence in the first place why even pay?
Here’s another source regarding this:

If you want a legit copy for a discount usually many companies, universities (usually free in the US) or Federal workers get legitimate copies of say things like Office Pro for $10 in my case.Last edited: Dec 12, 2018Vasudev and killkenny1 like this. -
Don't expect other answers than this from Micro$h4ft's own forum.
Of course they try to force you over to Windows official website. Same way as they try to screw you all with their new spybox OS. Who'm should trust whats coming from Redmond HQ? Not a day without websites explain how they try to screw you!

But rarely they know about it. I asked my university and they said we don't have it. Had to find it in their local server where all SW and study materials are stored. Found it and distributed among my friends and my classmates. Not seeing my reminder for another 5 yrs.
Too bad, the pricing is similar to Kinguin after I use my international card w/ extra fees for processing..

Hey Ultra!
Thank you for your hardwork. Used your old build from a year ago or so and I'm currently getting ready to use this new build. I love how you made the windows store still available on your copy.
I just have some question does the update feature work? If so why do I need to follow the Original post that you have been updating with instructions on how to keep the OS up to date?
Thanks! -

Ohh, sorry about that. But Windows Update is disabled by default, right?
And thanks for the all effort in making a clean and snappier OS. MS is really treating its users like a bunch of guinea pigs with all the issues and bugs that comes with its forced updates. You sir, are doing God's work. -
Spartan@HIDevolution Company Representative
Not a problem. No Windows update is not disabled. This ISO is just like a normally functioning ISO that needs to be activated and has everything working like the Microsoft Store and Windows updates. The only difference is it has all the garbage Windows Store apps removed and no Windows Defender or Cortana.
You can disable Windows update using O&O ShutUp10 should you wish to. -
No. If you have valid license embedded in motherboard then it uses that, otherwise type your license key.Aivxtla and Spartan@HIDevolution like this.

Doesn't mean you need to run the automatic update function for download + installing new "broken" patches
If he re-install already used Win 10 OS there is no need for touch the activation or add in licence key. -

You can get the update here as well (for manual installation) if anyone wants it as a stand alone.

Much like the unlimited supply of BGA turdbooks, with Micro$lop it is an endless cycle of nonsense updates and a bottomless cess pool of digital feces.

Best advice... Buy a cheap Win X Pro key. You never know what they are able to do next time.

Just curious, how do you find (like?) the new LTSC builds? Most of the comments I've read say that the old LTSB (v1607?) is still betterLast edited: Dec 19, 2018FTW_260 likes this.

Heads up — Bug fix for IE coming out through Win10 cumulative updates, Win7 and 8.1
Posted on December 19th, 2018 at 12:27 woody Comment on the AskWoody Lounge
Looks like a drive-by: You can get infected by simply viewing a bad site, but only if you’re using Internet Explorer.
Which, of course, you aren’t.
The patches:
Win10 1809 – KB 4483235 – build 17763.195
Win10 1803 – KB 4483234 – build 17134.472
Win10 1709 – KB 4483232 – build 16299.847
IE 11 on Win7 and 8.1 – KB 4483187
Way-out-of-band patches like this one have a nasty history of blowing up. I strongly suggest you avoid the patch – and avoid Internet Explorer. But you’ve heard me say that a few times already, eh?
---------------------------------------
Btw... Note that it is not recommended to run a "check for updates" on Windows Update as it may deliver updates that you don't want installed on the device; this may be a new feature update for Windows 10.

I like the UI of 1607 LTSB better, but the performance is just a little better with 2019 LTSC. Both of them have no UWP crApp filth, no Micro$lop Store and no Cortana the digi-slut, so all of those things are compelling reasons to go for LTSB or LTSC rather than a "Consumer" version of Pro.

Why not add in .195 ?
And is there a need for install SSU as stated in Op if ISO build is already up in 17763.194?

No need, the SSU is already installed in this build:
As for why didn't I include the latest update to .195? The build is already on a recent update .194 and I don't wanna risk any bugs with updates integration.
