BRUH.......xbox games on PC https://www.thurrott.com/xbox/200140/microsofts-evolving-gaming-strategy-takes-a-giant-step-forward
This could be a positive at least as a whole red stone 5 update for every versions. If Microsoft ca make this happen then I'm excited to play Halo series on my PC and every other xbox 360 exclusives!
Earlier this year, Microsoft made a peculiar announcement on the Windows Insider blog related to gaming. With build 18334, Microsoft said they were bringing new technology to Windows 10 and were offering up State of Decay for free to try but that’s all the information that they provided.
Wanting to understand more, I started poking around and asking for more technical help to dig out the information needed. Thanks to help from NazmusLabs and Rafael, I was able to better understand what is happening and thanks to a few people familiar with the company’s plans, we can piece together the puzzle.
When you download State of Decay, the oddities begin immediately. Instead of downloading from the Microsoft Store server, serverdl.microsoft.com, where all content comes from including PlayAnywhere titles, the game downloads from assets1.xboxlive.com.
What it looks like Microsoft is doing, instead of porting each Xbox feature back to the PC one by one, they are simply dumping the entire Xbox one installation/servicing plumbing and making it the primary installation for Windows.
When you extract the installer from the Store after downloading, you will discover that it is using the .xvc file format. While that may not sound familiar, Microsoft introduced this format around 2013 specifically for Xbox One games. Further, you can now install this file format using PowerShell in 19H1; I never thought I would write the words “PowerShell can now install Xbox One games” but here we are.
When you install State of Decay, you get a legacy DX installation setup prompt that does a classic, non-sandboxed, and non-store based installation of DirectX dependencies to your system directory. You can see what this looks like in the screenshot at the top of the post.
On the surface, what it looks like Microsoft is doing is collapsing any differences between PC and Xbox gaming to make it the same experience on both devices. The company is in the process of making the delivery mechanisms based on the Xbox infrastructure, appears to be making it possible to run Xbox games on the PC, and replacing the existing Store PC games infrastructure on that of what Xbox has built.
And this isn’t some half baked port to the Windows ecosystem either. Much like the Xbox does, this updated mechanism supports delivery optimization too.
This is a substantial development process for Microsoft and not something that happened overnight. While it certainly looks like developers will be able to use a single binary package to target and Xbox and PC, I believe the larger ambition is to make the gaming experience the same on both PC and Xbox.
If Microsoft can make this a reality with performance being top notch on both platforms, it means the addressable market for Xbox and PC gamers is going to be the same which makes it a much more lucrative target than other platforms.

The retpoline fix for the Spectre mitigations was the most interesting part of this release for me. Up until a few weeks ago I was quite excited by the prospect that this retpoline fix could mean a restoration of all CPU performance lost from the Spectre updates, but alas I found out those few weeks ago that retpoline does nothing to improve performance in CPUs from Skylake onwards (ie. 6700K onwards). I've updated my Windows to this latest version & I can indeed say that there has been no performance improvement with my Skylake desktop in CB15, nor in any of the Physics tests in 3DMark Firestrike nor in 3DMark Timespy. I haven't tested it yet on my sandy bridge laptop, but the 2920XM in my laptop should benefit from this retpoline update. I'll update my laptop & edit this post later today or tomorrow with those laptop results.
EDIT: updated my sandybridge laptop with the retpoline fixed windows update: no performance improvement in Cinebench 15! Previous testing before any of this Spectre nonsense came on the scene showed that I lost 3% performance in Cinebench, and this retpoline fix was supposed to bring that all back, but it hasn't brought any of the performance back! Has anyone else tested this retpoline fix on their PC's? You'll need to have an Intel system older than Skylake to theoretically see an improvement.Last edited: Mar 2, 2019Ashtrix, Mr. Fox, Spartan@HIDevolution and 2 others like this. -

Anybody else getting a problem activating their MS Office stuff? I'm still on 1803 (build 17134.523), and I keep getting a 0x80072EFD error.
I've tried the solutions from online threads regarding that error, but between O&OSU, WPD, and some other tweaks I've done in the past, I don't quite know how to pinpoint what's blocking the verification. -
Spartan@HIDevolution Company Representative
1) Re-enable telemetry
2) undo all changes done by WPD to block Microsoft Addresses
3) Ensure the Windows update service is set to Manual and running
4) Undo all changes done by O&O Shutup10
5) Reboot -
I guess MS just really wanted to spy on me.
Here's what I did:
1) Turned on telemetry using Autoruns.
2) Turned on telemetry and other Microsoft stuff in WPD Privacy settings.
3) Turned off all the Firewall Rules in WPD.
4) Ran a MS Office program (I used Excel and PowerPoint).
5) Activation/verification popup no longer triggers upon opening of any MS Office program.
6) Reversed all the changes I did from steps 1 to 3.
I guess it was something within WPD as I didn't even change anything with O&OSU 10. I didn't even have to reboot.Mr. Fox likes this. -

Blocking Micro$h4ft and Telemetry IPs is no longer safe. It WILL break many things including Windows/Office activations and sometimes Skype and the Windows Store.Vaeron likes this. -
Grab MS toolkit next time if MS bothers you with activation. Type in your activation/digital key into MS toolkit and activate it. 19H1 has a bug and MSO 2016 always asks for Accept license upon startup. I have synced the license with onedrive so I can't find my license key where I stashed it.
-
That's a bummer. I'm waiting if 19H1 is any better.
I'll see how the MS Toolkit is. I don't think I've used that before. I don't know which version of Windows 10 should I be using right now. I thought waiting for 19H1 would be the best option, but I haven't got any proper pointers if my hunch is right. -
19H1 is Redstone 6 aka v1903 or whatever April Update 2019. Its true alpha version I'm using for daily usage and perform very well than Public beta version.Aroc likes this.

Breaking this filth (other than product activation) is a benefit, LOL. I've eliminated the non-LTSC Windows 10 from both of my systems and replaced the cancer version of Windows 10 with Linux.
I wouldn't hold my breath on 19H1 being an improvement. Every release of Windows after Windows 7 SP1 to present (Windows 8 forward) has been a downgrade in one or more ways. Skunks don't change their stripes and it seems like their supply of incompetence has no limits. Question: What is the "WPD" you mentioned?Vaeron, Raiderman, Papusan and 1 other person like this. -

I have the sound problem symptoms right after installing the new update. I play all games with music player in the background and suddenly sound (in both) simply stops, I alt+tab from the game and music player MPC-HC is unresponsive. Alt+tab back to game and sound is normal. But no way to use MPC-HC in the backgrund no more while gaming.
The workaround as per Microsoft ... well in music player I have default sound device selected (already) and if i want to use Razer Headset, I have to select it in sound options so all effects go through Razer Synapse (surround, vibrating etc.).
So the update before the last introduced lag in Metro Exodus, got rid of it, this one (KB4489899) breaks sound. I tried to play only game or only music player, and I do not get the soud drop symptoms anymore.
WTF is happening to Windows 10... -

Unstable OS that they couldn't figure out for years, Fix one thing, break another, and the story goes on...the never ending BETA POS OS -
The alpha version is better than public consumer beta versions. Only issue is dx9 and some dx10/11 won't exit cleanly and put Win10 to black screen and only workaround is to use Ctrl+alt+del or ctrl-shift-esc to use task mgr and quit the games/apps.

I hear that. On my system, the only time it ran well was when I first purchased it. That was version 15XX I believe. Ever since the "anniversary update" it's just been a continuous slide downhill. Seeing that multiple audio device bug automatically turned me away from this recent update. I still have to look at a big red X on my NAS drives so I really don't need yet another "workaround" (could you just imagine going to you car dealer and hearing "we know there's a fuel leak, but if you just do this, you and your family probably won't get burned to death")

Guys, is there any way to uninstall windows updates after using DISMx64 windows updates installers cleanup?
I tried Googling, read DISMx64 manual ... no clues.
What I tried:
I went to DISMx64, and re-installed manually downloaded last two updates kb4489899 and kb4489907.
Restarted and tried uninstalling them through WIndows and also DISMx64, but it throws following messages.
I also tried uninstalling both at the same time (security update and cumulative update in DISMx64), with the same result.
So it gives me an option to uninstall them, but throws an error, and they stay installed.
The sound problems are starting to get really annoying, and now in MPC-HC if a song in playlist finishes playback, the next song plays 'muted' and MPC-HC stops responding.
From now on, honestly, I do no more DISMx64 cleanup for Windoes updates, unless I find a workaround to be able to uninstall them or the updates are working without causing issues.Aroc, custom90gt and Vasudev like this. -
Once uninstalled through Dism/Dism++ there is no way to uninstall it. Its permanent. That's why, wait for a week before you run uninstall.
-
I have warned about that you risk run into this mess before. Some will be screwed if they don't know what they do. Or read how the tools works. And for the records... In short it's even not needed (Only needed if you run the same OS version for a long time). And if you still want... Only 1 week after is too soon.Last edited: Mar 14, 2019

I never used that DISM cleanup method. It's pointless with today's high capacity storage at relatively cheap prices. What are you trying to get man? 500MB? Not worth this BS.
Please format your taptop
c69k, Aroc and Rengsey R. H. Jr. like this. -
DISM cleanup really helps not space wise but several copies of older dll files are compressed or removed and new files are placed with fixes and win 10 can use newer patched version transparently!
If you're developing softwares WinSxS is a boon otherwise you are filling up the disk with useless files.
Older W10 only cleaned up <500MB but newer ones spit out 1.3GB or more if subsequent Dism cleanup sessions are missed (Full reset or partial reset)6.|THE|1|BOSS|.9, c69k and Aroc like this. -

You got a point..
I do that regularly to have Compacted OS which will help me do DiskImaging faster & backup size is much more smaller
anything wrong happened... quick restore within 5 minutes
Like messing with the RAM settings corrupts or nukes my OS regularly
so... it really helps to have small sized Windows OS for quick backup & recovery
saves time
