Yeah scan only changed files aka whitelist is a lifesaver. BD free is buggy, I recently got a 6 month full version of BD TS 2019 and it was buggy; it blocked WU,blocked apps even with whitelist, blocked itself from updating defs and UI etc... Threw it out and switch to kaspersky free for peace of mind.

I never use Windows 7/8.1/10 w/o an AV. On Linux no AV at all! If there was any virus I'd just use kaspersky rescue disk to disinfect the PC or even use Linux to quickly delete all AV references and shortcuts.

I don't think that is smart on windows... There are plenty of viruses that act undercover, collecting your data etc (gl if you use some important passwords or do your banking in that time). You might never know something sneaked its way in no matter how careful you are. And lets admit it, the majority of pc users aren't even all that careful. Even I admit that I thought my first laptop was virus free until I ran some malwarebytes and avast pre-boot scans on it... but it turns out it did not help the issue as the thing was just overheating despite going twice for warranty for shutting down. I knew nothing about laptops/pc's back then at all, my windows 7 got so bloated it took ages to boot and probably like 10 seconds to even open windows explorer. When the bf opened the laptop up back in 2013, he encountered melted plastic and rock solid paste and the poor laptop was just barely out of warranty at the time, but well.. gaming on integrated graphics was never a good idea to begin with.

3 years with the same performance and temperature.. without any hiccups :D but I agree with you that this post applies for people who doesn't know what they are doing... :) but I know what I am doing... especially 3 years of usage with the most important scenario... banking and payment and my job, etc...

You don't need an automated stupid bot to protect you from infection or security breach... I don't believe on Antivirus... I believe on human knowledge & with knowledge... you don't need any useless (the so called Antivirus) to protect you :D

I prefer pairing with WD or Kaspersky just like GTA 5 Armour that gets basic protection. You should use linux for everything and WINE is pretty good and Win 10 is used for BIOS mods and few others....

Just a little update on my downclocking issue: resetting power schemes seems to have been a temporary fix. It now either no longer works or the issue comes back randomly at reboot. Seeing I don't feel like reinstalling I removed the latest update (KB4493509) and will see what happens. Next step would be to check all PSU cables (especially cpu one) - sadly the case needs to come apart quite a lot for that as my giant noctua cooler does not allow easy access.... thank god the top can be removed lol. Then I guess updating the bios as I am on the one the mb originally shipped with ><. Anyway just letting you all know the issue is still present. It would do me a great favor if you are on OS build 17763.1 w10 pro if you could pick high performance mode and let hwinfo let in the background for about 20 mins while normally using the pc/laptop. If you see any unwelcome 800MHz I'd love to hear it :D

PS. mmm seems new chipset drivers are out since 3 days. Just installed, will be observing.

the KB4501835 update is rendered moot now as Microsoft has just released a newer update for 1809 and contains more new non-security fixes

    KB4495667 (build 17763.475) (released May 3)

    https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=4495667

did you get a chance to install the KB4465065 microcode update for 1809, heliada?

And with a bunch of fixes. I wonder why the Redmond Retards didn't dare push those out 1. May with Build 17763.439

    What's new in Windows 10 Build 17763.475
    • Allows the built-in Administrator account to run Microsoft Office setup after downloading the installer in Microsoft Edge.
    • Addresses an issue that causes Internet Explorer Automation to fail in certain instances.
    • Addresses an issue that may prevent Custom URI Schemes for Application Protocol handlers from starting the corresponding application for local intranet and trusted sites on Internet Explorer.
    • Addresses an issue that prevents certain apps from launching when you set folder redirection for the Roaming AppData folder to a network path.
    • Addresses an issue in Gdi32full.dll that causes an application to stop responding.
    • Addresses an issue that may cause the UI to stop responding for several seconds when scrolling in windows that have many child windows.
    • Addresses an issue that may cause a touch screen to stop working after restart.
    • Enables a touch keyboard to support new Japanese Era characters. For more information, see KB4469068.
    • Addresses an issue that causes ShellExperienceHost.exe to stop working when the start date for the Japanese Era is not on the first day of the month. For more information, see KB4469068.
    • Addresses an issue that prevents the CALDATETIME structure from handling more than four Japanese Eras. For more information, see KB4469068.
    • Updates the NLS registry to support the new Japanese Era. For more information, see KB4469068.
    • Addresses an issue that causes the DateTimePicker to display the date incorrectly in the Japanese date format. For more information, see KB4469068.
    • Addresses an issue that causes the Date and Time Settings control to cache old Eras and prevents the control from refreshing when the time enters the new Japanese Era. For more information, see KB4469068.
    • Updates fonts to support the new Japanese Era. For more information, see KB4469068.
    • Addresses an issue that prevents an input method editor (IME) from supporting the new Japanese Era character. For more information, see KB4469068.
    • Addresses an issue that causes the Clock and Calendar flyout control to display the day of the week incorrectly mapped to a date in the month of the new Japanese Era. For more information, see KB4469068.
    • Adds alternative fonts for the new Japanese Era fonts. For more information, see KB4469068.
    • Enables Text-To-Speech (TTS) functionality to support new Japanese Era characters. For more information, see KB4469068.
    • Allows existing devices that are managed by Configuration Manager to be enrolled in Microsoft Intune using Co-management without any user interaction. It does not require an active user to be logged in, and there are no Multi Factor Authentication (MFA) prompts. This update also allows the Co-managed mobile device management (MDM) enrollment to use the device credential it received when the device is enabled to join Hybrid Azure Active Directory (AADJ).
    • Improves access to detailed troubleshooting and diagnostic logs from managed devices, such as business PCs, when using a PC cloud management service. PC cloud management services include Microsoft Intune or other Mobile Device Management (MDM) providers for Windows.
    • Addresses an issue that may allow a user to continue logging on to an account using a smart card after disabling the account.
    • Addresses an issue that prevents access to enterprise resources when using Kerberos with Windows Hello for Business (WHfB) credentials. This causes users to receive multiple prompts to provide their credentials.
    • Addresses an issue that occasionally causes a PostScript printer to use the wrong font.
    • Addresses an issue that causes Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) client applications to stop responding for at least 30 seconds when many LDAP queries are requested through multiple connections. This occurs because of a race condition in wldap32.dll. You must install this update on the LDAP client that calls wldap32.dll.
    • Addresses an issue that causes a roaming profile user to lose customized Start menu settings after upgrading the operating system (OS). After installing this update, administrators must enable the UseProfilePathMinorExtensionVersion registry setting described in KB4493782 for roaming user profiles (RUP). This key allows you to create a new RUP for an upgraded OS and prevents the loss of a custom Start menu. The RUP must be stored locally, and you must restart the device to enable the feature.
    • Addresses an issue that causes connection requests to the Remote Desktop Session Host (RDSH) servers in the deployment to fail. This issue occurs because of a deadlock in the Connection Broker.
    • Addresses an issue that may prevent Cluster Aware Update from restarting nodes when a cluster's credentials are reset. Cluster Aware Update must restart nodes after installing an update. The error is the following:
SAVED BY THEIR SECURE browser, Internet Explorer

Eh... I did not get the KB4465065 at all from what I can tell from update history as I only got 1809 beginning of april. Anyway, nothing I did so far helped (uninstalling latest update, updating chipset drivers, getting rid of gigabyte easytune services - not sure how that got installed lol). Anyway, Latest update KB4495667 seems to so far not downclock (I pushed it to install via windows update)... I will see after a while of testing I guess ><
PS. Yeah I know I don't have enough control over my updates and maybe I should have... I just kinda let them come lol - until now it worked ok.

Windows 10 1809 Language Pack Issue, Microsoft recommends Reset of PC:vbbiggrin:

    Closing Words
The documentation leaves lot to be desired: it does not list language packs that are known to cause the issue, does not reveal how the error manifests itself, and makes a suggestion -- to check for updates to install an earlier cumulative update -- that makes little sense.

If you have not installed the latest cumulative updates yet and have Asian language packs installed, you may want to wait with the installation just a bit longer (until the issue is resolved).

@6.|THE|1|BOSS|.9 While your suggestion with power plans being reset & gpedit.msc was interesting (but did not help), I found the issue yay! And I was in the wrong thread the whole time without knowing... time to update the bios and if that does not help downclocking then I will head to the gigabyte forums ^^ I found meanwhile that my bios seems to get unresponsive when accessing certain submenus (still on f5 original bios for my mb while f9 is out - but I tend to avoid updating the bios at all costs usually, especially after hearing of some bricked boards with gigabyte bioses lol). So yeah that is a good sign sth is off with the bios at the very least - I mean, I should be able to access all the settings and not have the bios refuse to open them...
Sooo long story short, it's the c1e being triggered while I game. I can run prime95 stable af for 2 hours, no issue. I can idle for hours without downclocking. BUT play my fav game: c1e. Well f me right. Disabled it and all is good in the world... Hence I thought I fixed it so many times cause it only happens in the game and c1e does not appear to trigger any of the usual throttling flags, not even in throttlestop... ^^ Time to keep it off and move on or try to mess with updating the bios etc, not sure yet... can c1e be triggered by windows? As it seems to have happened around the time after I updated to 1809 and there is little info on how exactly this state works.

PS. I find it annoying that when googling downclocks to 800mhz, c states don't even come up... or I missed it - would have saved me lots of time... :(

Glad you found the culprit :) yeah.. Windows can trigger C1E so disabling it through BIOS is the best way to cut the problem from the source and get done with it ;) which what you did currently :) C1E is one of the power saving features but I'm sure that it is not important at all for PC or Desktops but important for Laptops or 2 in 1 laptops :)

Google takes down the file pretty quickly.
You can use Wintoolkit1.7.0.7 and NTLite for making tweaked edition of Win 10 yourself.

Try Wintoolkit 1.7.0.7(You should add it to MG) and new NTLite.
Took me 16hrs to make them because SSDs are boiling due to high ambient temps ~30-40C. Mounting a WIM boils the SSD to 70C.
Refrain from using sfc /scannow as Post install task, it brought back deleted items on 1903 and I pulled few of my hairs out for wasting my time.

    KB4494441 Windows 10 1809 17763.503 + KB4499728 as SSU

    Known issues with the KB4494441

    • After you install this update, there may be problems with the Preboot Execution Environment (PXE) to start a device from a Windows Deployment Services (WDS) server that is configured to use the Window Extension variable. This can cause the connection to the WDS server to be prematurely terminated while the image is being downloaded. This problem does not affect clients or devices that do not use a Window Extension variable.
    • Certain actions, such as For example, renaming files or folders that reside on a Cluster Shared Volume (CSV) may fail with a "STATUS_BAD_IMPERSONATION_LEVEL (0xC00000A5)" error. This occurs when you perform the action on a CSV owner node from a process that has no administrator rights.
    • When attempting to print from Microsoft Edge or other Universal Windows Platform (UWP) applications, you may receive the error message: "Your printer has encountered an unexpected configuration problem. 0x80070007e. "
    • After installing KB4493509, devices with some installed Asian language packs might receive the error "0x800f0982 - PSFX_E_MATCHING_COMPONENT_NOT_FOUND".
    • Workarounds on the support page

    Fixed issues with the KB4494441
    • Enables "Retpoline" by default when Specter Variant 2 (CVE-2017-5715) is enabled. Ensure that earlier operating system protections against the Specter Variant 2 vulnerability are enabled with the registry settings described in the Windows Client and Windows Server articles. (These registry settings are enabled by default for Windows Client OS editions, but disabled by default for Windows Server OS editions.) For more information about "Retpoline" see Reducing Spektrovariante 2 with Retpoline under Windows.
    • Provides protection against a new subclass of microarchitectural data sampling vulnerabilities in 64-bit (x64) versions of Windows (CVE-2018-11091, CVE-2018-12126, CVE-201:cool:. 12127, CVE-2018-12130). Use the registry settings as described in the Windows Client and Windows Server articles. (These registry settings are enabled by default for Windows Client OS editions and Windows Server OS editions.)
    • Adds "uk.gov" to the HTTP Strict Transport Security Top Level Domains (HSTS TLD) for Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge.
    • Fixes an issue that may cause "Error 1309" when installing or uninstalling certain types of .msi and.msp files on a virtual disk.
    • Fixes a problem that prevents the Microsoft Visual Studio Simulator from starting.
    • Fixes an issue where zone transfers between primary and secondary DNS servers may fail over the Transmission Control Protocol (TCP).
    • Fixes an issue where the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) Management Information Base registration fails if the Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) provider uses the Windows SMI2SMIR.exe tool.
    • Fixes an issue that may cause the text, layout, or cell size to be narrower or wider than expected in Microsoft Excel when you use the MS UI Gothic or MS PGothic fonts.
    • Security updates for Microsoft Edge, Internet Explorer, Microsoft Scripting Engine, Windows App Platform and Frameworks, Windows Graphics, Windows Storage and Filesystems, Windows Cryptography, Microsoft JET Database Engine, Windows Kernel, Windows Virtualization and Windows Server.
KB4499728 servicing stack update (First install the SSU).

I installed this update just a few minutes ago when I saw news of this. At first it said that KB4494441 had been installed sucessfully, but when I checked the version number of the OS Build it hadn't updated to 17763.503 - so I had to click on the Update button again, at which point it said it was installing that KB4494441 - and this time it installed properly and changed the version number of the OS Build to 17763.503. Basically, don't expect this update to be installed even if it says it's been installed, I had to run it twice to get the OS Build number to change. So far no issues for me with this update, but to be honest I installed it 5 mins ago and all I've done is internet browsing!

    As standalone or via Update?
Edit. Forget it... I expect You used Win Update as usual. No problems as you running standalone update in offline.

It seems Micro$lope preferred push it out along with their older OS versions this time without let it go via guinea pigs first. Aka they are back to old screw up!!

Info for yoo... Micro$haft acknowledges the double reboot problem with KB4494441

    upload_2019-5-15_19-3-43.png

Of course they don put it under the main webpage for the OS version/builds (Windows 10 update history) They prefer instead put it in their new webpage Windows release health dashboard where no one will look into.

Yeah, I think it installs twice because it deosn't install properly even though it says the update is installed - the OS build number doesn't change to the proper version until the 2nd install. So I'm thinking that I don't have a faulty install, but is just a bug with it not installing properly the first time.

Mac OS X isn't any better, everything is stealth based and updates are applied upon reboot when user hits reboot or when critical bugs are to be patched it flags or prompts for a reboot.
Just updated to latest 4.15.0.50 kernel so people with WSL 2 check for updates and get the kernels patched for preventing ZombieLoads.

    https://www.pcworld.com/article/3395439/intel-hyper-threading-zombieload-cpu-exploit.html

    Don’t panic
The only real silver lining is for those with the latest and greatest Intel CPUs. As the company said, many of its recent 8th-gen and 9th-gen processors already have hardware fixes in place—so there’s no reason to switch off Hyper-Threading on a Core i9-9900K whatsoever. ZombieLoad's danger apparently applies only to PCs with slightly older CPUs. Owners of those systems will have to depend on firmware and software updates to lower the risk, and to count on the absence of any known attacks abusing the ZombieLoad exploit, so far.

    KB4505056 Windows 10 17763.504 (Manual Download)

The update increase the version numbers only marginally to the 17763.504 and fix only one error, which was "zoned" in the previous update. "Fixes an issue that may prevent access to some gov.uk sites that do not support HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS) when using Internet Explorer 11 or Microsoft Edge."

"The known bugs remain the same as in the previous cumulative updates on May 14th"

It's disgusting. The whole OS trash is bugged with huge load of flaws. So much of it that they need 3 or 4 patch days a month
    Improvements and fixes

This update includes quality improvements. Key changes include:

    • Allows users to go back to a host browser from a Windows Defender Application Guard (WDAG) container.
    • Addresses an issue with looping redirects between Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer 11.
    • Updates wininet.dll to prevent the re-creation of File Transfer Protocol (FTP) control sessions.
    • Addresses an issue that may cause Microsoft Edge to hide annotations added to a PDF file, such as inked notes, highlights, and comments.
    • Addresses an issue that removes UserRights policies from all users in a security group when you remove a device from a mobile device management (MDM) server or Microsoft Intune deletes a UserRights policy.
    • Addresses an issue that disconnects a remote desktop session when you lock the session using a third-party credential provider.
    • Addresses an issue that causes Microsoft Office and other applications to prompt for a password after you change a user account password. This issue occurs on hybrid Azure Active Directory (AD) joined systems.
    • Addresses an issue that prevents ActiveX controls from automatically installing through a proxy server.
    • Addresses an issue that prevents you from signing in to a Microsoft Surface Hub device with an Azure Active Directory account. This issue occurs because the previous sign-out did not complete successfully.
    • Addresses an issue that causes a sign-in to fail with the error, “Incorrect Username or password” when using an empty or null password and Windows Defender Credential Guard is enabled.
    • Addresses an issue that may cause a temporary KRB_AP_ERR_MODIFIED Kerberos sign-in failure in applications and services configured to use a Group Managed Service Account (GMSA). This issue occurs after the automatic update of the service account password.
    • Addresses an issue that may prevent BitLocker from encrypting data drives when the "Enforce drive encryption on fixed data drives" Group Policy is configured.
    • Addresses an issue that prevents updates from downloading from a Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) server when a Windows Defender Application Control policy is set to manage which updates can be deployed.
    • Addresses an issue that may cause event 7600 in the Domain Name System (DNS) server event log to contain an unreadable server name.
    • Addresses an issue that fails to record a local user’s last logon time even when the user has accessed the server’s network share.
    • Addresses an issue that prevents NumLock from working properly in a Remote Assistance session when the Remote Assistance window gains and loses focus.
    • Updates time zone information for Morocco.
    • Updates time zone information for the Palestinian Authority.
    • Addresses an issue with the International Components for Unicode (ICU) data, which were not updated for the time zone and the new Japanese Era.
    • Addresses an issue with the "Allow uninstallation of language features when a language is uninstalled." Group Policy.
    • Addresses an issue in which a File Share Witness does not remove Server Message Block (SMB) handles, which causes a server to eventually stop accepting SMB connections.
    • Addresses an issue in which Windows attempts to renew Azure Active Directory (AAD) token certificates when there is no internet connectivity. This issue occurs during AAD authentication and slows the performance of applications.
    • Addresses an issue with scrollLeft in Internet Explorer.
    • Addresses an issue that causes rendering to stop working for <svg> elements.
    • Addresses an issue with Assigned Access deployments (formerly Kiosk Mode) that prevents a user from logging on to an Assigned Access profile. This affects all locales and occurs when the local administrator’s group is not named using the English spelling of “Administrators”. In the Event Viewer, Event 31000 shows the source as “Microsoft-Windows-AssignedAccess/Admin” and displays the error message, “The group used to assign the application can’t be found.”
    • Addresses an issue that prevents a Generation 2 virtual machine from starting on a Windows Server 2019 Hyper-V host. In the Microsoft-Windows-Hyper-V-Worker-Admin event log, Event ID 18560 displays, “VM name was reset because an unrecoverable error occurred on a virtual processor that caused a triple fault.”

Microsoft issues new cumulative updates for Windows 10 v1803 and v1809
Posted on May 21st, 2019 at 15:02 PKCano Comment on the AskWoody Lounge
On Tuesday, May 21, Microsoft released Cumulative updates for Windows 10 v1803 and v1809.

    v 1803 KB 4499183 Build 17134.799
    v 1809 KB 4497934 Build 17763.529

Starting with update [KB4499183 and KB4497934], we are introducing functionality that allows you to decide when to install a feature update. You control when you get a feature update while simultaneously keeping your devices up to date. Feature updates that are available for eligible devices will appear in a separate module on the Windows Update page ( Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update). If you would like to get an available update right away, select Download and install now. To find out more about this feature, please go to this blog.

When Windows 10 devices are at, or within several months of reaching, end of service, Windows Update will begin to automatically initiate a feature update. This keeps those devices supported and receiving the monthly updates that are critical to device security and ecosystem health.

The changes to v1803 and v1809 will be available in the June Patch Tuesday updates.
These Cumulative Updates are Previews. You don’t need to install them.

Microsoft windows security updates june 11, 2019 overview

    Direct download links:

KB4504369 Servicing stack update for Windows 10, Version 1809 - June 11, 2019 (Remember install as first)

    KB4503327 Cumulative update Windows 10 1809 (17763.557) - June 11, 2019

    Known issue in the KB4503327
    • Certain actions, such as For example, renaming files or folders that reside on a Cluster Shared Volume (CSV) may fail with a "STATUS_BAD_IMPERSONATION_LEVEL (0xC00000A5)" error. This occurs when you perform the action on a CSV owner node from a process that has no administrator rights. Workaround: Perform the operation from a process that has administrator rights. Perform the operation from a node that does not have CSV property.
    • When attempting to print from Microsoft Edge or other Universal Windows Platform (UWP) applications, you may receive the error message: "Your printer has encountered an unexpected configuration problem. 0x80070007e. "Workaround : You can use another browser, such as Internet Explorer, to print your documents.
    • After installing KB4493509, devices with some installed Asian language packs might receive the error "0x800f0982 - PSFX_E_MATCHING_COMPONENT_NOT_FOUND". Workaround: Uninstall and install any recently added language packs. Select Check for updates and install the April 2019 cumulative update.
    Fixed issues with the KB4503327
    • Fixes a problem that may cause the Windows Mixed Reality keyboard to render incorrectly in some applications.
    • Fixes a security vulnerability by intentionally preventing connections between Windows and Bluetooth devices that are not secure and that use known keys to encrypt connections, including security flags. If BTHUSB Event 22 says in Event Viewer: "Your Bluetooth device was trying to establish a debug connection ...." Then your system is affected. Contact the manufacturer of your Bluetooth device to determine if a device update is available.
    • Fixes an issue that can prevent the Preboot Execution Environment (PXE) from starting a device from a Windows Deployment Services (WDS) server that is configured to use the Window Extension variable. This can cause the connection to the WDS server to be prematurely terminated while the image is being downloaded. This problem does not affect clients or devices that do not use a Window Extension variable.
    • Adds updated Broadcom Wi-Fi firmware to Microsoft HoloLens. For more information, see Note 190016.
    • Fixes a problem that can prevent the opening of Internet Explorer 11 if the default search provider is not set or is faulty.
Security Updates for Microsoft Scripting Engine, Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge, Windows App Platform and Frameworks, Windows Input and Composition, Windows Media, Windows Shell, Windows Server, Windows Authentication, Windows Cryptography, Windows Data Center Networking, Windows Storage and Filesystems, Windows SQL Components, the Microsoft JET Database Engine, Windows Virtualization, Windows Kernel, and Internet Information Services.

That's just a list of bug fixes, nothing terrifying in there really, but it does make you wonder what kind of a spaghetti an OS can be to the developers who wrote it - I wonder if they really understand it, I suppose they just use tools to build upon previous 'building blocks', so I suppose an OS is a bit of a 'black box' to them, without an intimate understanding of all the specific code that it contains - I'm guessing.

I call it a Ugly mess. If I remember correctly Version 1809 had nearly 50% more fixes than 1803 this time. And there isn’t always same flaws (that being fixed) between the versions either.

Yeah, It’s spaghetti code. Microsoft shouldn’t push for 2 main upgrades a year. They spread their engineers between too many OS versions. Of course it will be a mess the way they do it now.

A Bug:rolleyes: in Windows 10 versions 1709, 1803, and 1809 caused the Location, Diagnostic Data, and Improve inking and typing privacy settings to not be displayed during the initial setup of Windows. The whole OS is a bug!

I had none of that updating to 1903 from 1809.... but definitely had the popup stuff when initially installing windows 10 months ago - but I do remember that when re-checking everything after the update there were some things that were set to default. Tbh, I think that windows should be as bare and private as possible out of the box and all the stuff we tend to disable should be optional (as in disabled at start). Microsoft has much to learn in regards to true privacy.
