    But I'm on RAID bro, I don't use the NVMe Controller. Just the Intel Rapid Storage Technology Controller. Heck you can't even install the Samsung NVMe Driver for the other 2 non RAIDed SSDs since it won't support installing that driver if the BIOS is set to RAID rather than AHCI

    Recently picked up a PowerSpec 1510 (Clevo P650HS-G) from Micro Center. :) I remembered other users saying that @Phoenix can help you tweak your laptop, if you bought from HIDevolution. Anyway, I followed Phoenix name to this thread. :) Tomorrow, I'm going to try to start following the different guides to get my laptop ready and happy. (FYI, the laptop is very new to me. My other laptop is 10 years old. Win 10 is somewhat controlling/not user friendly/too user friendly :vbconfused:)

    Is there a specific order I should follow, or is it okay to just plow through the list?

    I have tried these before, But i remember that you have to add a password for boot and wake before you can disable the sign in screen, so i created a password and then selected require password never in the require sign-in drop box, doing this will remove the resume log-in but activate the boot password log-in, but if you then remove the password, by leaving the box empty, you will not have to sign-in at boot or resume from sleep.

    what a fart, but it`s done now.

    thanks

    John.

    1. Under "Require sign-in," choose Never from the drop-down menu to complete the task.

    Is Classic Shell dead? Developer quits
    The developer of Classic Shell announced yesterday on the official forum that he won't work on the program anymore. He provided three explanations for stopping development of the application:

      • Lack of free time because of other interests.
      • Windows 10 is updated too frequently (twice a year with a new feature update) which makes it difficult to keep up with the development, especially since updates break functionality of Classic Shell frequently.
      • Microsoft changing the core of Windows from being based on the classic Win32 programming model, and thereby making it more difficult for developers to achieve the level of customization that Classic Shell offers.
    Classic Shell Alternatives
    There is a chance that no one will pick up development. There are a couple of alternatives available, especially for changing the Windows 8 or 10 start menu to a classic menu.

      • Pokki -- A custom start menu for Windows 8.
      • Spencer -- Adds a Windows XP start menu icon to the system.
      • Start10 -- The commercial application by Stardock restores the classic Windows start menu. It is available for a one-time cost of $4.99.
      • StartIsBack++ -- A free application that replaces the Windows start menu with a classic variant.
      • StartMenuX -- A free and commercial start menu replacement for Windows.

    Classic Shell no longer in development. Source code released

    How to Restore Power Plan Default Settings in Windows 10

    "Windows Crap 10 comes with a new UI again to change the operating system's power related options. The classic Control Panel is losing its features and probably will be replaced by the Settings app. The Settings app has already got many settings which were exclusively available in the Control Panel. The battery notification area icon in the Windows 10 system tray was also replaced with a new Modern UI."

    that's useless bro. It just tells you how to restore a plan to its default settings. the problem with the Fall Creators Update is it has NO Power Saver and High Performance Plan, those need to be created manually. So I'm not seeing what benefit is that link above, with all due respect :rolleyes:

    Maybe power subsytem options are commented out so naturally there's a chance of restoring it.

    Guys there is an easier way to restore it. Simply make a new power plan and it will ask you to choose between Balanced, High Perfomance and Battery Saver, you'll just have to rename it. That's how i got them back on my laptop.

    edit: aw, i just realized Phoenix mentioned it already. woopsie

    @Phoenix If I added O&O Shutup10, do you still recommend doing the other "disable telemetry" and suggestions under the index? Examples: "Stop Windows 10 spying on you using just Windows Firewall", "Mr. Fox's Tweaks", "Winaero Tweaker"

    Is there no way to change that Windows does automatic updates? :mad:

    What are the pros and cons of disabling Windows automatic driver updates?

    There are only Pros and no cons.
    Cons:
    - system instability
    -More headaches
    etc..
    Use Policy Plus from github to disable that policy Or disable BITS and WU service and only enable them whenever Tuesday patch is out for auto updates. I use WHDownloader for offline updates only. So, I use WU and BITS to update UWP apps.

    Hi @Phoenix

    Thanks for your help last time. I looked at tour win 10 tweaks and decided to try the above with my new laptop, following all your recommendation above too.
    Once I restarted my laptop, I saw the laptop logo, it then turns to an all black screen and I can only see the mouse cursor (can move it around) but its stuck in this black screen.

    Have tried to turn it off (holding power button, no way to turn off properly) and when I turn it on again, still the same problem.

    Please help me. Kinda regret even trying this.
    Anyway to fix it? Thanks.

    I've done this on my laptop and other members' laptops whom I tweak their laptops more than like 200 times man. it is the safest Windows 10 privacy invasion elimination tool. I don't know what happened.

    The only thing I can suggest is while your laptop is booting, immediately force shut it down, then turn it on again, then do this another time, then by the 2nd time you boot, you should get the Windows 10 recovery options, hit advanced then look for system restore and see if you are able to restore to an earlier point. If that fails, then a format is the only solution I'm afraid.

    Thank you. I know about that Windows Fail Boot Recovery but didnt think to actually do that.
    I managed to get in to Safe Mode now, hopefully I can fix this problem.

    Edit: Solved it. Problem with the latest Nvidia Driver caused this. Thank you for that little tip that goes a long way. Without that one little tip, I could not apply the other fixes.

    Thank you so very much!!!!

    oh wow, that was like the only thing I could suggest and glad it helped! so see, it wasn't O&O ShutUp 10. You see, O&O Software are a Microsoft Partner so they know pretty darn well how to undo all the nasty stuff of the OS without breaking the OS :D

    Hi about this:

    https://www.howtogeek.com/273513/why-you-shouldnt-use-anti-spying-tools-for-windows-10/amp/

    What are they blabbering about? Could they be right or they simply get paid by Micro$oft to lie?

    I am gonna buy a notebook of Hp and they don't provide Windows 7 drivers. So I have to use W10 but at least as much as like W7. Meaning no auto updates, driver updates etc you got it. Can you help me with this please?

    Thanks for your answer. It seems that they mainly focus tools other than Shutup 10 as they don't mention about any problem it causes, just mention the tool name itself which is awful because it may lead to misinformation and maybe this is exactly what they want should they got paid by M$.

    So I'll go for Shutup 10 but can I configure what to disable? And if things go south is it possible to revert without reinstailling W10?

    And there is still this hundred percent disk load cancer giving issue. I still hear this even after so many updates. The laptop is equipped with a hard drive rpm of 5400 so hopefully I won't go mad

    Make the taskbar file explorer link open faster

    File Explorer opened by the native taskbar link opens slower than hitting Win+E, and this difference depends on the graphics settings, with an observable delay in dGPU mode and a substantial, very annoying lag when in MSHybrid mode, aka hybrid graphics, optimus, etc.
    1. Fastest: open via Win+E, either mode (~300 msec)
    2. Slower: open via taskbar link, dGPU (~500 msec)
    3. Slowest: open via taskbar link, MSHybrid (~1 sec)
    The taskbar shortcut link (right-click, right-click, properties) displays grayed out target text that says File Explorer, but it can't be changed and it's target location is the 'desktop' instead of 'windows'

    To fix the issue:
    1. Unpin the native link from the taskbar
    2. Make a new shortcut on the desktop with a target of C:\Windows\explorer.exe
    3. Pin it to the taskbar
    4. -the desktop shortcut can be deleted.
    [IMG]

    After the swap, the link still opens to Quick Access/This PC depending on how you have it set.

    OK, I've installed W10 from scratch and it is not so horrible yet. Of course I configured Shutup 10 right away and using my home wifi as metered connection to not update the system. It seems that I use 15063.0 number build version. Don't know exactly about W10 updates but thinking not to update. Apart from few things the system is fine. What should I do? Update to the latest or stay where I am?

    The latest Windows 10 build is 16299.192

    You are like one whole major build behind. sooner or later, your current edition will no longer be supported and you won't receive any more security updates. Also, don't even think of updating to the new build. Either do a fresh clean install with the latest build or don't. So many registry entries, DLL files, etc. has changed with this new build that an update is definitely going to give you problems, stuttering, lag, you name it

    while you're at it, make sure you get the latest drivers. A lot of the drivers from this thread like the Intel ones, VGA, Card Reader, and Wireless drivers might work on your laptop. For others like your laptops' utilities, fingerprint reader, etc. grab them from your manufacturer's site.

    PS: It would help if you have your laptop model/specs in your signature

    Thanks for your quick response! Well I used to use Windows 7 without any updates at all apart from SP1 so... I think I'll keep this build. I don't know how was the reception of this build but seems okay to me. But if the latest one is far more superior than this one I might consider installing it. By installing I actually meant to say I've resetted the system via the settings menu.

    Unfortunately I sold my laptop in my signature and bought a used one. It is an HP Pavilion 15 with i5 5200 and 830M (you can laugh lol). Yes about the drivers it actually installed all of them. There was not even a single one that hasn't installed. Of course I've installed Intel HD Graphics and Nvidia drivers to their latest right away and the WiFi driver to previous versions because of connection dropping issues. Is this normal that it has installed all the drivers itself? Looks like it saved me from hassle but don't know lol.

    1) you're not missing on anything. The latest build known as the Fall Creators Update is the buggiest build to date. PC Settings randomly crashes, the power plans are gone you only have the Balanced plan now so you'd have to create them manually, slower boot time, the list goes on.

    2) Windows didn't save you from any hassle by installing the drivers for you, it just pwned your laptop installing generic drivers. Some of them are ok but some drivers like Audio and whatnot are best to be downloaded/installed from the manufacturer's website to ensure all features work properly. I never connect to the internet before installing all the drivers AND running O&O ShutUp 10 and enabling the Disable Driver updates via Windows update rule and add to that enabling the Do Not Include Drivers from Windows update in the Group Policy Editor if you have the Pro version of Windows.

    [IMG]

    no pun intended, but after Windows installs all the drivers for you, you would be like this guy....

    Haha that picture made my day. I knew something was fishy but since it didn't ask for my permission (as if it asks for anything) I decided to use it that way. I've compared the versions of the installed ones and the ones on HP's website and some of them were identical so I didn't touch those. But like mentioned the Wifi driver was newer and was not so stable. So I've replaced that with HP's recommended driver and it works fine now. This is a good workaround I think right? Shoud I replace all the drivers that don't match versions with HP's drivers to make sure? Or by letting Windows install drivers am I done for good lol

    well if your laptop is running fine with no hiccups, just count your blessings bro but now you know the correct way of doing things for the future.

    Next time you format:

    1) Clean install with the latest Windows 10 Disaster Build

    2) When asked to connect to a wireless network during the initial setup, choose skip from the bottom left otherwise you will be forced to login with a Microsoft account and will have all your drivers silently installed behind your back and without your permission

    3) configure Windows to your liking using the stuff in this thread and run O&O ShutUp10 twice as one of the telemetry settings will revert back to enabled after the initial reboot

    THIS!! And always have backup of OLD drivers. Never delete them if you find newer(save them as your best friend :D).

    Many thanks for your help, especially guiding how to use Windows 10 properly. I would've never installed W10 if I didn't see your threads. Your solutions gave me hope that the system might work just fine. And indeed after doing your recommendations (using Shutup 10 first before anything) it works just fine now. Well tbh I just got lucky by not having the latest build so hopefully I won't misupdate the system lol

    Try RS4 Insider ISO. I felt it was far better than Public Release OS.

    I just edited my Chrome Shortcut to have it use my RAM Disk as the temp cache storage for snappier web page loading and less wear and tear on the SSD

    Add this to the end of the target in the shortcut

    Now, unpin the default Chrome shortcut from your taskbar and re-pin the newly edited one from your start menu to the taskbar

    Code:
     --disk-cache-dir="R:\Temporary Internet Files\Chrome"
    substitute the R:\ Drive to the drive letter of your RAM Disk

    How to enable or disable the Meltdown and Spectre Patches

    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management]
    "FeatureSettingsOverride"=dword:00000000
    "FeatureSettingsOverrideMask"=dword:00000003

    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management]
    "FeatureSettingsOverride"=dword:00000003
    "FeatureSettingsOverrideMask"=dword:00000003

    Copy the lines within the spoiler in a blank text document, then save it as Enable or Disable Spectre-Meltdown fix.reg then right click on it to merge it with your registry. You must reboot for the changes to take effect or you could simply copy/paste the commands in an elevated command prompt.

    What do the switches mean:

    3 = disable both
    2 = disable meltdown (VA Shadow)
    1 = disable spectre (BTI)
    0 = enable both

    FeatureSettingsOverrideMask is always 3

    Download InSpectre to check the status of the Intel Patch

    yeah I'd rather risk a 1% chance of being hacked then have Microsoft and Intel rob my taptop's performance :rolleyes:

    @Mr. Fox

    Hmm, I ran the batch file as admin but it didn't add the values in the registry. When I manually copy/pasted them in command prompt though it did

    This is the code I put in the .BAT file and I ran it as admin (my UAC is disabled though if that matters)

    Code:
    reg add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management" /v "FeatureSettingsOverride" /t REG_DWORD /d 3 /f

    reg add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management" /v "FeatureSettingsOverrideMask" /t REG_DWORD /d 3 /f
    What gives?

    Lemme try enabling UAC then see if the batch file works.

    Edit: Nope, enabling UAC and running the BAT file doesn't work

    Lemme try just saving the commands as a reg file now.

    Standby please

    Instructions have been changed to create a Reg File instead since the batch file wasn't working properly [IMG]

    Most definitely! I'm looking to increase my P650HS-G performance-- at least to the most it can be-- not help Intel de-mod it. And when a GPU compute run can take 2-4 days to finish, I'll take even an extra 5% performance boost anywhere I can get it.

    Thanks again for the recheck on the .reg
