Is there any point install the CS Update? Install and disable with Autoruns.exe or skip it?

nope, we are the updates team, we don't need no app checking for updates

Of course as always. I have no needs for software looking for updates. Can of course disable with Autoruns.exe but better without (Very importent if you have BGA

How to disable the Windows Defender Security Health Service:
While you can easily disable Windows Defender and all its startup entries/tasks in task scheduler, there is one service that is protected if you check in services.msc and won't allow you to change its status to disabled.
Here is how you can disable it:
1) Download NSudo 4.0
2) Extract the content of the ZIP file to a location of your choice.
3) Go to the following folder: NSudo v4.0\x64
4) Right click on NSudo.exe and choose Run as Administrator
5) Check the box which says Enable All Privileges
6) Click the Browse Button and navigate to C:\Windows\System32
7) type cmd.exe in the file name box at the bottom then click on the Open button
8) your NSudo window should now look like this:
9) Click the Run Button, the command prompt window should now launch
10) Copy/paste the following command in the Command Prompt Window then hit Enter to run it, this will stop the Windows Defender Security Center Service: sc stop SecurityHealthService
11) Copy/paste the following command in the Command Prompt Window then hit Enter to run it, this will disable the Windows Defender Security Center Service: sc config SecurityHealthService start= disabled
12) Done -
As noted in my full review of Windows 10 Anniversary Update, many of the improvements in the latest version of Windows 10 simply don’t apply to typical Windows 7 or 8.1 users.

If you still want use Windows Defender... Get Classic Windows Defender in Windows 10 Creators Update
"The classic user interface of Windows Defender is still available. You can access it and use it if you like it more than Windows Defender Security Center." It is also useful when you completely disable Windows Defender Security Center.

I seriously cannot thank you enough for the awareness you're spreading among the community and the consolidation of solutions. I was planning on just ordering my laptop and playing with it with little to no tweaks, but you have shown me the light. Once again, props to @Phoenix, @Papusan and @Mr. Fox for the crazy amount of help.

I'm looking for a CMD looking program that helps remove/disable many Windows programs and services. I used it before but I can't find it now that I need it again, anyone know what I'm talking about?
Edit: It has a clickable interface too, but it looks like a CMD window with color -
You could try NTLite for Customize Windows components and Easy Service Optimizer (ESO) for Services.

Having problem setting homegroup between a windows 10 & 7 laptop. The group is created on the windows 10 and when I connect the windows 7 laptop, the message "windows cannot set a homegroup on this computer". Any solution for this? I already set the required services to automatic but still getting the same message.

I tried Homegroup once in the old days of Windows 7 and it never worked. Now the first thing I do when I install Windows is go to Group Policy Editor and enable the rule which says: Prevent this computer from joining a Homegroup
I just right click on the folders that I want to share, then Properties > Sharing, share the folder, then add the everyone group and give it read access.
Also remember to go to Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > Change Advanced Sharing Settings > then under HomeGroup connections, choose Use user accounts and passwords to connect to other computers
Under All Netwowrks, I turn off password protected sharing
then I enable sharing for Private Networks and disable it for Public Networkscj_miranda23 and hmscott like this. -
Thanks for that! It would be great if someone could post that screenshot with the full path shown because if you have windows OS in a different language the path is the simple way to find the according policy.

How to Disable Wallpaper Image Compression in Windows 10
(and windows 7 and 8)
"This wallpaper compression feature was first introduced in Windows Vista. When you set a JPEG image as the wallpaper, Windows will compress and reduce it to 85% of its original quality. By compressing and reducing the image quality, Windows is able to reduce the original image size, and save some memory and disk space in the process."
https://www.maketecheasier.com/disable-wallpaper-image-compression-windows10/
1. Use a .png image, windows wont compress it.
2. For .jpg, follow the link above and do a regedit.Papusan, alexhawker and Spartan@HIDevolution like this. -

I used to always disable File History via group Polic Editor the moment I installed Windows and sometimes I was wondering if that's a good or bad idea. Well, that whole feature will be removed in the Fall Creators Update so I was doing it all right from the beginning

@Mr. Fox -
Wait, they're actually going to do something right? Now I am even more suspicious and I wonder what the real story is? I bet File History being enabled interferes with their spyware or something and they are just spinning it as something they are doing right for us, LOL.Solo wing, Papusan, Spartan@HIDevolution and 1 other person like this.

They don't need your local File History, they have it backed up online in logs
Papusan, Mr. Fox, jaug1337 and 1 other person like this. -
Well, it was a pointless feature. Not everything needs to be tracked
Why bother supporting it when people use stuff like onedrive to maintain their file history?
Narrows down to what worth looking at.hmscott likes this. -
That's because it was doing double duty - the phone home Telemetry Reporting already is keeping a "permanent" history of your file access, so MS are trimming the duplication in function.
Of course MS are eliminating the one that you could control...
And, if you "chose" to disable file history keeping, it would be a bit uncomfortable for MS to justify "phoning home" your file history behind your back when you've disabled it for your own use.
Now your personal file activity history reporting is uncontrollable, the way MS likes it to be

Even MSFT would think over hundred times before doing this. I mean, Windows in general maintains a lot of temp files even after fresh install. Driver and app install will make it worse. There would be increased costs to maintain their Cloud servers and they will tell users to migrate to Ubuntu.

I'm sure M$ and NSA is interested. Easy access... What's better than this?
Or wait... They have already seen it

Prepare for hyper-speed folks.
People are realizing laptops come with $hitware too -
Unfortunately, this is too common and it's nothing new. It makes matters even worse when something that is actually useful (like LED keyboard control app, for example) is bundled in a suite of filth that is not useful. None of the "control panels" are necessary and almost all of them are trashware. None of them should be, or need to be, running automatically at startup.
-
First time I see mainstream YouTubers catch on.
Been plagued by these "control panel" bloatware things since the dawn of gaming laptops.
It is insane. Control panels, for buttons ON THE KEYBOARD. -
I liked S-bar from MSI. You have to press Win+X for brightness level control but could just click top bar for that. But Norton BS, Winzip (why not 7-zip?), SQL Server etc is non-tolerable for me. I always do clean install after get a laptop.

Hello,
Can't find my problem so I will ask here. Just got a Dell Latitude e6430 refurbished from Staples in Canada running win 10. First day works fine I try shutting it down and restarting a few times to make sure okay. After about 2 cycles it gets hung up on the win 10 opening page with clock in lower right. I hit enter and it goes back to same page. I reset to factory settings yesterday and still same problem. This morning same. If I start up, it gets hung up on opening page and power down with power button it seems to work on next start up. I'm assuming that win 10 was loaded at factory and I should be able to reset to win 7. win 7 is fine with me, don't need the 10 features. This lap top is just for browsing and watching you tube etc.
cheers,
Ed -

Before Win 10, it used to be that you could right click on an icon and select Properties. That option has been removed so is there any way to put Properties back in the context menu please?
I would like to correct this nonsense that appeared on my taskbar this morning:
-
Is outlook mail open?
-
Yes and no. I have had it open a few times and closed it while using compatibility troubleshooter. The icon remains only ⅛ of its normal size.
I also tried right clicking on the executable's icon but the Properties dialogue offers no option for changing the icon.
Edit:
I just created a shortcut in the Program Data folder and then changed the shortcut's icon. That doesn't work either.
2nd Edit:
Restarting the PC fixed it. I would still like to have the Properties option in the context menu though. I'm sure I won't be alone with that.Last edited: Jun 28, 2017 -

As you may be aware, File History is off and will be completely removed from the next build of Windows 10 Fall Creators Update BUT why the heck is it still in the context menu and file properties despite me even disabling it from Group Policy Editor is beyond me, so here's how to remove it:
How to Remove "Restore Previous Versions" from the Context Menu
How to Remove "Previous Versions" Tab from Properties
Before:
After:

So, my app is frozen and I click on it RMB in the taskbar and select "Close Window", nothing happens. Hate this! Then I have to open task manager, search for the process, then RMB and "end process tree". Why? Why doesn't it closes a window in the first place? How can I correct this behavior? Thx!

Hi @Mr. Fox I have tried this command and it will say operation successful but when I reboot and spam f8 it doesn't work. I dont know why. Also I dont have fast start up as I have disabled it and disabled hibernation. Did I do something wrong? My current winver is Version 1703 OS build 15063.540. Help please. Thank you.

It is still there, but not very obvious. Their mission to to make things more difficult and call that easier due to loss of functionality. Micro$loth have removed the ability to manipulate the properties of the "special" shortcuts created during Office setup. You have to create your own shortcut to edit the properties. This applies to all Office programs.
To tweak the properties of the shortcuts that they haven't screwed up, you do it as shown below.
-
Hmm. It still works for me. Are you certain you are spamming F8 soon enough? Maybe you just need to start a split second sooner?
Grab Winaero Tweaker and find the option for that to "always show" and see if it still does not appear without pressing F8.
Edit. You can also use it to enable or disable that feature the same as using the command prompt.
