Why do I have to waste time searching for ways around the system instead of MS upgrading and using the settings I already have or at least if they want to change something have some info about it and preferably a choice during the install.

I'm all for updates that fix bugs and security issues which unfortunately seem to be never ending. Waiting for that day MS says "no updates needed", not sure it'll ever come though.

The big issue comes updating GPU's. NVidia and AMD are known for buggy drivers so allot of times people will settle for one good stable release and stay there with their current cards. The same can be true of the WIFI drivers, as they can either be buggy and/or hamper performance.M$ wants to change this and make us all test the new drivers as they are released. I personally like to keep up with the recent OEM driver releases but this will hamper that as well.

    It works the first time,

example, in my case there was an update for the bluetooth adapter so I hid it, 2 days later, a new update for the Bluetooth Adapter came out on Windows update, now the Windows hide/show updates tool will NOT see that new update but Windows update will so it will keep nagging on you to install it

I see, so if they ever release another new driver for that component then it will try to auto install even though you hid the previous update. Could be a pain for some people - depends on how often new drivers are released for that component & whether or not the new drivers break functionality or not. If it broke functionality then I guess you'd notice, and would have to go through the uninstallation & hiding process again, otherwise nothing to worry about I guess.

that's just ridiculous you had to revert back to a W7 image just for the update to go through.... I have a clean install of windows 10 and have no prior images to go back to, I guess i just have to ignore the update. It's annoying when the damn updater keeps asking for a reboot. Plenty of people are having the same issue and there's still no fix... I've tried both methods of editing regedit and manually trying to install the update and none have work.

The problem is somewhere along the way the Task Scheduler files corrupted. I guess with the reversion I could have worked on it to fix it but an image restore was easier. I made the image before doing the upgrade on both laptops. My OCD kicking in but glad I did.

I just figured out that my P35X will not boot when connected to my external display, doesn't matter if I use HDMI or mDP connection. I have to unplug the display and once it starts to boot I can reconnect it and it boots normal then with the external connected. Internal display is unaffected and works perfectly.

I can only assume this is a Windows 10 deal since it just started but it's weird because it doesn't even look like its starting to load windows at all when it fails to boot. Nothing in the windows event logs because its not getting that far. Laptop screen is just a blank screen but backlight is on, and nothing ever appears on the external and it acts like nothing is connected to it during this time.

I've messed with the display settings, and tried changing the one setting in the BIOS related to the DP ("disable DP P3" or something like that)

It's repeatable, does it every time, this is the same display I've been using the entire time I've had my P35x (dec 2014) and it used to work fine. I also tried disabling fast boot but the only thing that did was increase my boot time and didn't help this issue at all.

    *edited for clarity*

*Ok more testing, it is just the P35X and my Samsung 4k display, just that one combo using either HDMI or DP. Using other monitors works fine, and a different laptop works with the Samsung fine.

Why oh why do I always find the really weird issues like this? Worse case scenario is I buy another 4k display, i was thinking of getting another one anyway this may force me to it.

What display? External or internal? Does any other PC boots with it?
It's possible that firmware of that display is scewed.

Sorry, external, I edited my original post for clarity. Internal display works fine, its just that i have to disconnect my external screen every boot up or it won't boot.

No, as of today its 3.8 %, not 3.44 %

Its only 3.44 % if you include Tablets and Consoles in the statistic, which the linked article certainly didn´t do.

I just ran it without tablet and I got 3.9%. TBH though I would think since 8.0 and up are supposed to be tablet OS's as well they would want to include those too.

Edit; even 3.44 increased to 3.54 today.

But if you include tablets, Windows 7 has only 48.36 %. In the article, Windows 7 has 53.8 %. This would mean that Windows 7 dropped 5.5 % in a few days, which sounds unlikely to me^^

Logically this means they didn´t include Tablets (and why would they, as this would also include iOS, which is clearly not a Desktop OS^^).

Anyone know how to remove the password from Windows 10 and revert to a local user account? I need to do this because my laptop is due to being collected by my reseller and the display swapped. They need access to the OS for obvious reasons!

I think this will get you there:
    Control Panel\User Accounts\User Accounts\Manage Accounts

and if you struggle to find other Windows 10 options for anything else you can create a God Mode folder on your desktop that lists every configurable option under the sun:

TBH they always have received some machine data. I have no issue there, now putting their version of the spy and ad ware that for all these years I have been fighting off my computer, that is another story. I have no issue with just not using those enhancements, not worth the tradeoff.

My HP Tablet had problems shutting down in Win10, the power light would not turn off, So i did an clean install of Win8.1 and it still would not shut-down correctly, but i found an fix for the problem.

I have only tried this fix on win8.1, I dont feel like trying Win10 at the moment, but i will post the fix below.

Go to " power options" and click on " choose what the power buttons do" then turn off " fast start-up" , at the bottom of the page, you might have to click " change settings that are currently unavailable"

    John.

    Indeed.

What concerns me the most right now is a possible introduction of some of this nonsense into the older (W7/W8.x) operating systems through WU. I'm not well-versed enough to state what the chances of such an event are, but my quills are up nevertheless...

Allot of this should stay away from at least W7, Cortana and W8.x could be a different story. I am trying to hold onto W10 for its features but every day it is getting harder and harder too.

What I have an issue with is not the fight against software piracy... that is wrong and illegal. It needs to be fought, but not in my living room or office. Why should we have to suffer for the behavior of thieves? Simple answer - we shouldn't. What I do have a HUGE issue with is the self-adoring idiots at Micro$lop appointing themselves as God and deciding what they can turn on and off on machines they have absolutely ZERO right to exercise an ounce of control over. If I could smash all of the filthy igmotated Redmond Nazis in the face with a sledge hammer that are responsible for this kind of control freak idiocy and not go to prison for doing so, I'd do it in a heartbeat... those evil clowns need to be emasculated and receive an all-expense paid lobotomy with garden tools for this kind of stuff. But, I can't and I don't want to go to prison, and I know I would feel bad for their families later on. So, since nobody is going to go nuts in terms of the execution of wrath the million dollar question is, "How much more stupidity do we tolerate from these fools?"

And, for anyone that thinks we are being too silly, here's a true story that happened TODAY.

@Prema sent me some links to download files and they would not work in Windows 10. Google Chrome and Edge would take me to the correct host page, but there was nothing available to download. Rebooted and loaded Windows 7 and everything worked as expected. After downloading them under Windows 7 they were invisible when I booted back into Windows 10... literally, Windows 10 HID THEM from me. Needless to say, I was seriously ticked off by that.

All I can really say is that I hope that severe financial harm comes to them for their unethical behavior. I hope all of their EULA-approved spyware crap backfires and their software ends up being pirated more than any other time in history. They need to be taught a harsh lesson that will cause fear in their hearts for decades, and that lesson is: Mind your own stinking business. Shut up and give us what we want, or just shut up and go out of business. Either way, just shut up, turn loose of our family jewels, and get the hell out of our way.

Yes, that was what I was saying/hoping all along. US courts won't do squat. They never have and never will. But EU seems a lot more serious (as they should be) and expeditious about correcting this crap. Problem is that it may result in a version in the EU that removes the nonsense but us Americans will be stuck with the same old crap.

I've wondered the same thing myself.

It certainly is, has left me with the feeling that MS has spent too much time and effort on it's spyware instead of the rest of the OS.

It also irks me when people post about "nothing to hide" as if it's something nefarious and yet not one of these posters is willing to provide their address, banking / account details, credit card numbers, email accounts, facebook account, passwords and so on.

Having Windows Automatic Updates rendered non-functional through registry tweaks or Group Policy has never been more important than it is now. In the past my greatest concern was instability and performance crippling stupidity that came along with the uncontrolled projectile vomiting from the Micro$lop Catalog at no extra charge. There's still that, plus the privacy and identity protections concerns (digital STDs) that Windoze OS X brings to bear on the situation. What really puzzles me is we hear about hospitals, financial institutions and other big business having customer records stolen and they all get royally reamed a new posterior orifice when that happens, but when the Insane Clown Posse from Redmond does it on purpose, this is magically OK somehow.

Maybe all the other big businesses should follow Redmond Mafia's lead and update their terms of service agreements to say that, as an incompetent peasant, "you agree" that it's OK for your private information to be stolen and "you agree" that they can make changes to your account without telling you or asking permission first, and "you agree" that there is no way to opt out of the program. What's theirs is theirs and what's yours is theirs, too. After all, being their customer an experimental data mining resource is a privilege, not a right... same as Micro$haft's perspective.

The US courts won't do squat because Micro$oft is doing exactly what the U.S. Government/NSA wants them to do: Collect all data possible from every device and have what appears to be almost total control over the device.

Heck, if AT&T has been in bed with the NSA for decades, ( Here), why shouldn't Micro$oft fall in line too?

I guess Windows 10 is a "good thing" to those that are totally onboard with the "Homeland Security" Enhanced Driver's License RFID model as well. And, all this time we thought Minority Report was just make believe stuff on a sci-fi flick, LOL.

It's bad enough that Windows 10 + GeForce drivers screwed up all three of my Alienware display panels, but Windows 10 installed on my Clevo is now even screwing up my Windows 7 experience on other machines. Now that everything is "synced" across browsers, which is proving to be a bad idea, look at this screwed up artifact. LOL... the people at Micro$lop have produced another huge dud of an OS. I wonder if they know about the "3 strikes" principle? If you actually think Windows 8.1 is a different OS than Windows 8, Windows 10 is strike 3. If you understand Windows 8.1 is just a Service Pack, it's two down, one to go.

Gee, ain't that ugly blue bar (Windows 10 "theme" pastel crap) a nice touch on my transparent Aero title bar? I NEVER had this issue with Windows 8 crap screwing up my browser theme in Windows 7 though.
    Thanks Win10.JPG

All these hacks and I can tell you it is not a 100% cure. My one password was already on a stolen list according to Facebook and M$ local is the only other entity with that old password I use. By setting up the system so I could access the store the local password was given to them. I will now never, ever, ever trust them.

Just so many issues, the last straw was the hardware. Even if you just change the bios version it will remove the bootrec from the primary drive. This has happened to several Samsung systems already where a Windows app changes the bios version. I was looking to upgrade the SSD and RAM to 32GB but to go through this every time, bull squat.

Now how many mom and pops will be directed to update their computers bios and then experience dead systems? I am just so done with them........

What!? If you flash a new BIOS version to any laptop or PC running Windows 10 then it will remove the ability for the PC to boot into Windows 10?! That's surely not happening!?

I can confirm it isn't for Clevo systems, at least.

I have successfully flashed a new BIOS file to my P651SG running Windows 10. It booted just fine.

Sounds like a strange unintended bug for the systems you mention, given what Cakefish has just said about his Clevo being fine with flashing a BIOS.
