Does going with a UI design choice which doesn't get much positive feedback really "kill the OS that runs the world's business enterprises"? Is the function to do world's business lost or weakened due to this design? Is world economy really being threatened by the wrath of the mighty tiles?
If businesses hate the UI enough they won't buy the product. If they are forced to use it after older versions of Windows go EOL they will spend some unhappy time retrain their staff. Do we really have something so important at risk that US/global government action is required? What kind of global chaos can arise from this if the government doesn't step in?
-
You didn't read and comprehend the entire problem, not gonna debate it with you here and now. Think about it some more, take in a few more minutes of thought - or days or weeks.
-
No, the UI wont kill it, but it doesnt really help does it? Microsoft will kill it all by themselves. As far as a UI not getting much positive feedback, you are right, it is mostly negative, and has been now since Win 8. The numbers do not lie, and before you quote the 20% adoption rate, we all know that it is artificially inflated from early adopters. PC sales are down, which is directed at MS, and their blundering attempts at making a mobile OS for desktops.
-
No, but m$ making a less secure product for businesses does. By making more ways in, and blowing it with M$ secure boot keys, etc., you end up in an untenable position if told to upgrade deployment.
Don't forget my situation. I have an oem key and Windows 10 hasn't been installed on my system for about 10 months. I'm still getting insider emails and since those keys are tied to specific systems and counted on their server, it is considered a sponsored 10 system even though I went back to 7.

I don't have a problem with the UI of Windows 10, I came straight from Windows 7 and knew instantly how to use the Windows 10 UI efficiently - it's mostly cosmetic. My elderly parents also went from Windows 7 to Windows 10, and they didn't need training either.ajc9988 likes this. -

Sorry if this has been discussed earlier..
https://tech.slashdot.org/story/16/...es-will-become-mandatory-for-windows-7-and-81
So does this mean no more Simplix pack or any Slipstreamin...? tbh I don't update windows at all not even simplix or any other methods, I know my limits of Internet and how things work and go haywire, I would rather stop updating the EOL OS rather than to have this Micro$hackle my PC with abominations from the Flood infested Redmond filth base..
IRC convenience update screwed up the BT in W7 (correct me if I'm wrong ) I don't know whether we can skip monthly rollups like for eg : 1, 2,3 came can we only install 3, that part is in ambiguity, jeez what a mess M$ has become.Last edited: Aug 22, 2016 -
Microsoft says their new approach "increases Windows operating system reliability!!! No the oppsite. One patch and you will be screwed if this fix have flaws. With today's update functionality allows the user to uninstall the problematic individual updates. Not now. M$ go backwards and will only create so much trouble for Win 7/8 users in the future that those users want upgrade will be forced to Win Crap X

This is why I'm playing with my own personal custom alpha builds to try to make this bearable for a transition...

Do you delve into or tweak many settings after installing, or do you leave it mostly stock? -
Robbo99999 Notebook Prophet
Yeah, I just leave it at stock. I had Cortana disabled via the standard Windows UI method (just toggling the switch) before the Anniversary Update, and I'm not signed into One Drive. (Third party Anti Virus solution: Avira. So Defender is switched off automatically.) -
Has anybody tried Win10 with Classic Shell? You're still stuck with other issues that Win10 brings but, cosmetically, it makes all the difference in the world to Win8.1. Might be an option.
I'd try it out myself but I'm miles away from my Win10 rig and will be for a few months yet. -

Classic shell is awesome. I've used it off and on for awhile.

Guys, I was having a big slowdown in my internet speed lately, down form 100 mbps to 50 mbps, I then did this tweak to disable the Windows Auto Tuning of connections and rebooted, Then the speed went up to 117 MBPS right away!

How are you testing your network speeds?
In the past I've used both Speedtest.net and testmy.net.
I've heard speedtest.net isn't very accurate but shows higher speeds for me, while testmy.net is more accurate but shows slower speeds. -

Speedtest.net -
Speedtest.net isn't very accurate on my network either.
My isp priorities traffic to it so it will always show much higher speed than I'm provisioned.
I thought auto tune only affects those who have greater than fast bandwidth but have less than ideal latency or excessive hops. -
"If your webcam has stopped functioning since the release of the Anniversary update, you are not alone but the good news is a fix is coming, hopefully in September."
Wow, millions of people with their ability to work and communicate derailed by a Microsoft update.
Why in the world is Microsoft touching Webcam's?
What on earth do they need from them

lol, way too much meddling in crap they shouldn't be. The fix will be out, but they will have control of your webcam. Why anyone would be willing to use and defend such a load of s**t, is beyond me. Telemetry, updates for the updates that did not work, flat pastel based feces of a gui. I have said it before, and I will say it again. If I must stare at my computer screen for hours, then why not have it look nice? -

Well since W10 wants to know whats in your computer i guess they need the web came to check out your house too. So if you are on your laptop and notice your web cam is on give them a big smile....myself i am going to use only 1 finger

killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
So I guess it will be even easier for MS to push telemetry crap bundled together with other updates. -
Yeah ! That's their plan to infect all legacy machines, The major problem is until now people had the option to choose the updates with MDL tools and other 3rd party stuff, slipstreaming etc but from Oct onwards things are going to take a wrongturn. I didn't update my OS (It's the Sep 2014 MSDN updated ISO) but have some issues with games like Crysis / Rottr, Win8.1 is really borked but no option, I can't stand to Win10 at all, It's not a finished product to have it on my machine with this cumulative B$ and now they are destroying the old ones to, really makes me bust their brains out...
From Oct Win7 and Win8.x are also being turned to buggy OSes with that ******** and force the people to downgrade to WinX, We really need Steam to step up their game with SteamOS / Vulkan.
Waiting for MDL to figure out some ways, I don't care about updates but at one point we might need to get them slipstream'd into ISO.Last edited: Aug 23, 2016 -
Micro$hit hope you will upgrade to Win Crap X, if you know telemetry is also fully baked in older OS. It's their new strategy to force you to upgrade!! They use rotten cards in the game as always

Windows 10 cumulative update KB 3176934 breaks PowerShell
Cumulative updates are so awesome! Can't wait until MS blesses Win 7 and 8.1 with them! /s
I can't believe people argue that this is a better system than individual updates. Cumulative works for mobile OS like Android - something that is "simpler" and doesn't have nearly as much user configuration, settings, etc. under the hood. Individual patches make so much more sense for desktop/PC - not just picking what you install but being able to troubleshoot (e.g. by removing one patch at a time). MS once again shoving unwanted mobile features onto desktop and PC users. -
You do not seem to get it. With W10 all PC's and otherwise are just devices. M$ has pushed this more and more on us since W8.x. This is more of a killer to the industry than anything else. And I get it on some lower end consumer devices. Albeit better privacy would be nice too.
So if you use W10 you are consenting to that high end gaming machine being just another device, like it or not!Papusan, Raiderman and toughasnails like this. -
Robbo99999 Notebook Prophet
A high end gaming machine is still a high end gaming machine regardless of whether it has Windows 10 installed or not - Windows 10 gaming performance is just as good as Win 7 & 8, and arguably will be better when DX12 becomes further utilized - DX12 exclusive to Windows 10 of course unfortunately. -
Uh, what? How do I not get it? Your response is confusing, as if you somehow interpreted my post as me endorsing or defending Microsoft's overall strategy with Win 10.
I wouldn't make these criticisms if I didn't understand that Microsoft has been pushing for PCs to just be "devices" alongside the rest, and in the process taking away user control over the OS which has long been important for desktop/PC users. Cumulative updating is one example of this, and now that Win 10 philosophy is going to infect Win 7.
Even if a person consented to using W10, which I did not, how would that make these criticisms any less valid?
Hopefully Vulkan will help offset some of Microsoft's desired Win 10 exclusivity for games. -
I think there is a note of sarcasm in his post. At least that is how I read it.Papusan likes this.

There is a big difference between phone vs a computer. You're doing fine with a phone that is unstable a short while, but it is much worse with a pc. How many times has the Redmond Morons released a patch that makes your computer unstable? Zero?

I seriously don't get this, I mean every month an update comes that tends to fix things previously broken but damages others. WTF !! How can they pull out such shameless feat and people are still running that $hitload of an unfinished crap. Now they even wan't to corrupt the old OSes, This rolling update / Winblows as a service is the ultimate junk that the IT world has seen...I can't get this frustration out of me, need a punching bag beside so help me out every update / ISO.

I agree unless the SteamOS takes it to next level. Waiting everyday to listen something that's progressing with the Vulkan scene, the DX12 vs DX11 is nothing and It just helps only the U/Y/ Core -M / Dual core CPUs not even a single benefit over the DX11 in terms of GFX, Now they will pull another feat saying DX12.x blah blah because that API is their Trump card without that Win10 is NOTHING. I can bet on that, Winblows is hell bent on the user data collection and 0 respect towards user choice & feature set makes me remember the Alienware / Jailienware / Failienware the ultimate cause to have the socketed market go extinct...
All these threads and our bashing are just lost in vain, Micro$haft won't make a move until that Vulkan rips the evil heart inside out. Glad to have MDL atleast. I'm not a programmer, but it seems strange to me that things like some webcams & Kindle are causing issues when they update seemingly unrelated parts of Windows 10. Quite a few bugs being discovered.
