Anybody know why my display will not turn off when i am listing to internet radio, i have "turn off display" set to 2mins but it stay on.
Thanks

Can't help with your problem but I'm seeing the same issue randomly on several devices and playing audio seems to have nothing to do with it.

It's possible that the player is reporting to Windows that the window is active due to the changing of songs. If it was a desktop I'd assume you can just manually turn it off if you wanted to, so I'm going to go with it being a laptop. With that, most laptops have a function key to manually turn off the display. Mine looks like a rectangle with the longer sides rounded in the middle with an X inside of it. Most that I've come across have the same sort of icon for this. You can use that to manually turn it off/on.Tinderbox (UK) likes this. -

I hope MS enjoys the self inflicted wound they have on their collective feet. In their never ending PUSH of the herd to migrate to 10 they will inevitably fail, and therefore MS as a company will also fail.
Thats okay, though, because most people hate what the company has become.Last edited: Nov 6, 2016 -

Stop Windows 10 Spying & Forced Application Installs
Barnacules Nerdgasm
Published on Nov 22, 2016
"After installing the Windows Anniversary Update for Windows 10 it would seem we picked up a lot more than we bargained for.
There is a feature now that allows Microsoft to quietly install popular games and apps from the Microsoft Store without your consent or knowledge, eating up your bandwidth and hard drive space and potentially putting you at risk.
I am calling Microsoft out in this video for this bad practice and also telling you how to disable it so it won't continue to happen.
I also tell you how to fortify your Windows 10 to prevent telemetry and data gathering moving forward by Microsoft."

In this version episode of #TechTip I show you how to disable all of the spying features of Windows 10 and get your privacy back. I think Windows 10 is a great operating system once you disable all the data gathering mechanisms and return it back to a pure operating system.

Not sure they care about their old developers at this point. His entire department got thrown out IIRC. Kernel developers don't bring in much money, data analysts do.

Yup, QA too, the lack of QA and OS talent has been showing badly for quite a while, and it's not going to get better any time soon.
MS has wasted so much money, good will, and reputation on this capturing data obsession, building $1T in data centers world-wide.Last edited: Nov 23, 2016 -

This is why we should all use O&O Shutup10:
Microsoft gives third-parties access to Windows 10 Telemetry data -

I love this part:
"Windows 10’s aggressive data-collection capabilities may concern users about corporate spying, but enterprises have control that consumer-edition Windows users do not: Administrators can decide how much information gets sent back to Microsoft.
But enterprises need to think twice before turning off Windows telemetry to increase corporate privacy. That’s because doing so can decrease the effectiveness of Windows 10’s security features."
So, let me get this right... turning off telemetry to increase privacy and security, decreases security in the fantasy world of Windows 10?
My favorite part of the article, since updated from the first time I read it when @Phoenix posted it:
" Full Level
The Full level gathers data necessary to identify and to help fix problems, following the approval process described below. This level also includes data from the Basic, Enhanced, and Security levels.
Microsoft may pull additional information from a device if the diagnostics request is approved by Microsoft’s privacy governance team, including privacy and other subject matter experts."Ashtrix, toughasnails, Papusan and 1 other person like this. -

Exactly, Windows 10 is so messed up and constantly messing up on itself every "update", people are constantly looking for new drivers and trying to figure out what just stopped working - or where did it go? - why? and what did MS replace it with?
Windows 10 is a hot mess to stay away from no matter what other concerns we have.
Windows 10 = FAIL. -
Ah so refreshing to read through the thread....thanks guys for the great info ...
Quick question:
Although I'm not a big fan of Windows 10, for gaming purposes I'll be installing W10 so...Should I go with a vanilla WIndows 10 install or use the media creation tool from M$, which will contain everything like the anniversary update etc?? Uuggg...I wish I didn't have to...
Gosh, I really hate to be doing this, but again...the machine that I'm installing it on is not my primary. All my important stuff is done via Linux, fun stuff through an older OSX and gaming and very non important stuff via Windows....
I plan to install Windows 7 as well on the gaming laptop...hmscott likes this. -
You can just get the latest ISO from MSDN, which contains all the major updates.
-
I had made the recovery stick via the media creation tool from M$, which should also contain the latest as the ISO yes?

"So instead of having to search for drivers for your graphics card, the purchase of a game from the Windows Store would trigger Windows Update to download the latest graphics drivers to get you up and running. And you won’t end up downloading some buggy pre-release software as Microsoft has stipulated that these automatic downloads are stable and WHCK signed"
"There’s one big downside to this approach, however, as the auto-install of these drivers will overwrite your currently installed drivers, which could be a big headache for some"
Yeah, Nice times are coming!! Look at my avatar

This is a great example of why I say the imbeciles at Micro$loth are retarded. This kind of idiotic nonsense is one example of why Windows 10 can't be taken seriously. It is and probably always will be a seriously flawed piece of garbage. People that cannot take care of their own needs when it comes to things like gaming need to buy a console and stop pretending to be a PC gamer. And, Micro$loth needs to stop trying to be good at Windows games. All they are good at is making messes. Windows Store (UWA) games are cancer trash that we probably should all boycott.Raiderman, toughasnails, Ashtrix and 2 others like this.

I wonder how this will go. Surely as usual... A huge mess
First Nvidia, then M$
<That sounds good on first glance. If a machine does not have the minimum graphics driver required to play the game, then it will be downloaded automatically to the system.
The main question that I have is whether customers will be prompted for that, or if the installation will commence without customer input.
There are good reasons not to install certain drivers on a machine. If customers are prompted and informed, all is good and well in my opinion. If that is not the case, then this could become quite the issue>

That is music to my hears brother. By any chance is there a write up on everything there is to know about Windoze OS X WIM?
I know that feeling. Just sickening....what's more sad is the thought running through my head of all these poor saps (sheeps) not even thinking twice about anything because it's just so convenient as they are silently being robbed of all their privacy. Just a shame. -
Hey Brother, I use this method. How to: Make a Windows 10 "Super LTSB" ISO
The instructions are easy to follow, but if you use LTSB RS1 the numbering in menus might be off from what is posted, but it is intuitive enough to follow if you ignore the numbers and look at the menu names. The instructions were for an earlier W10 release but it works for newer releases of Enterprise and Pro.Last edited: Dec 14, 2016iunlock, Ashtrix, Papusan and 1 other person like this. -
I've been using Win8.1 with all that cancer infestation removed and all is working so good and clean just like Win7 as expected. People are just dumb unless people realize that they have been used a catalyst and disposed off for the Goof-o-maniac TRASH (Not just software <Any> / every corporate mess ends up like this, notion of the humans to take advantage of others). Micro$h!t will continue do so, nowadays people are more excited for the "buzzword" click bait shizz - Anniversary Update -> Creators update and so on with that shiny pastel kiddo trash UI and worst UX downgrade mess. Well I got accustomed to this crapshoot nowadays, as it's almost reflecting in almost everything and liberty being erased slowly off, from the humans unknowingly.
The gimp-kool-aid fest will overwhelm us in the future, this is just a glimpse of the capitalistic fraud corporate fiasco we are in. Just nothing we can do, As for us we know how things should work we can fix them. We have our ways be it crude or civilized, end user experience matters.
I feel pity for the massive dumpster dumb crowd. But yet again this Windows X, Oh god such a worst abomination it has become...fkLast edited: Dec 14, 2016 -

Comparing numbers like this is meaningless without context. You don't know (neither do they want you to know) where those vulnerabilities are found, the scope of the issue involved, how many patches are defending know attacks and how many are defense in depth, how architectural changes affect code reuse, how patches are packaged, etc., etc.
BTW, it's completely normal for new software to have a higher frequency of issues being discovered, just like how hardware are more likely to fail in the very beginning of their expected life.hmscott likes this. -
This is probably the most exciting post I have seen to date on NBR. Thanks brother and I'm so glad to have those like you who share the same opinion (facts) about M$ and their communist ways.
Preach it brother...Rep!
Ah...all those Viruses...Burn them all...Can't wait to do the same. Thanks again.
M$ has been sneaking in / piggy backing on some updates such as security updates with their own poison. Just unethical and absolutely communist.
This is why I would like a list of the good (it feels strange calling anything M$ good, but you get the point
kb's that are okay to install for the sake of having it...I think some games now require the Anniversary Communist Update to even be able to be installed...something crazy like that. So for this reason, it'd be nice to know which ones to put on rather than doing the shot gun effect of dumping on all the Viruses (kb's) and ridding the bad ones.
I would be more than glad to install the known "okayish," ones manually. -
And soon we can have conversations with the fridge...
