Windows 11 restores Win+X menu access keys, but taskbar loses another feature windowslatest.com - July 27, 2021
The Power User Menu, otherwise known as the Win+X menu, is available by default in Windows 11. Microsoft's power user menu is getting a redesign with Windows 11 and the pop-up menu still includes all shortcuts to Device Manager, Task Manager and other advanced Windows tools.
Taskbar loses clock seconds support
As we reported recently, Microsoft has confirmed that Windows 11 taskbar does not support the ability to drag & drop apps onto the taskbar. Additionally, Windows 11 no longer allows users to change the location of the entire taskbar.
In a new Feedback Hub post, Microsoft has acknowledged the removal of a registry value “ShowSecondsInSystemClock” that allowed the taskbar clock to display time in seconds.
Windows 10 taskbar clock with seconds
This feature requires a registry hack and it was added with Windows 10. In a Feedback Hub post, Microsoft confirmed Windows 11 taskbar system clock has dropped support for seconds.
“We’re sorry, this is not a supported registry key for Windows 11. Thank you so much for giving us your feedback, which we’ll continue to use to guide the future of the clock,” Microsoft said.
Again you are forced to use 3rd party tool to fix their lack of options.

Windows 11 Makes It Hard to Change Your Default Web Browser howtogeek.com | July 28, 2021
Windows 11 comes with Microsoft Edge, and Microsoft really doesn’t want you using Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, or anything else as your default web browser. Sure, you can still change your default browser—if you want to jump through some extra hoops.
You might run into these issues while using Firefox on Windows 11 windowsreport.com
Windows Insiders that use Firefox as their default browser are flagging some problems that ruin the experience on Windows 11.
Apparently, the browser constantly freezes when attempting to download files or simply switching between tabs.
There is still no clear reason that might trigger such behavior for the popular web browser on the new Windows 11 build.
As a possible workaround, users can try creating a new profile and switching to it, as depicted in this article.

Seems M$ likes paying the EU bazillions.
Remember when the EU fined them and forced them to not be so monopolistic about browsers, what, 3 years ago or so ?
No, it was farther back then that, don't recall specifics, do recall fines and forcing M$ to allow freedom of choice tho. -

2. Some of us use software that's only available for Windows. Many games need Windows, too, but that's entertainment - I consider that optional and something I could live without, but the software I need is for work.
As a result, we can't just move en masse to Linux. Yet. Maybe in a few years, though.
Until then, we have to either live with Windows and swallow whatever cr@p they dish out to us, or modify it to be somewhat more palatable. Something like NTLite which lets you rip out a lot of the bloat that's in Windows, or maybe even something like Hackintosh which lets you run MacOS on PC hardware - in our case it will run Windows 11 on unsupported hardware.Spartan@HIDevolution and KING19 like this. -

Massive move to Linux for those without tpm 2.0 and other HW requirements. Windows 11 will have massive bloatware like Windows 10 presently. EOL Windows 10 2025 or so. Linux has come along way and now offers native support for lots of items they did not before,,,, Get Busy

The first Windows 11 Beta release is full of nasty bugs windowsreport.com | July 30, 2021
As with any new software release, users are bound to discover nasty bugs that ruin their experience.
Microsoft just opened the doors for Insiders to transition from the Dev channel to the Beta channel and already errors are being reported.
These OS glitches can range from simple visual bugs, all the way to errors that compromise OS integrity.
It seems that after this Beta release, most bugs that users encountered are related to one of the most used elements, which is the taskar.
And with time, Microsoft will start push out firmware for Win 11 machines as they do for windows 10. Beware: Windows update is pushing BIOS updates with bugs

TPM Windows devices aren’t that safe, according to researchers windowsreport.com
Even though Microsoft preached the enhanced safety we were going to receive via TPM chips, an attack is not even remotely impossible.
If one of our windows 11 devices were to fall into the wrong hands, the device itself and the network it's connected to would be compromised.
Experts proved that, with the right set of skills, even the TPM 2.0 security chips can become easy prey for malicious entities looking to extract our data.
Microsoft might want to take a closer look at these security features and maybe even revise its strategy, while there is still time do so.Last edited: Jul 31, 2021 -

yeah my next computer might be mackintosh...I'm tired of microsofts BS..macOS just works easy to use and master and does what I need as well as supports geforce now.....which means 10 hours of gaming on the couch unplugged....and their screens are usually pretty good its not OLED but they still are nice./

Microsoft: Windows 11 requirements cannot be bypassed, and users aren’t happy windowslatest.com - August 1, 2021
In the midst of the pandemic, Windows is seeing a surge in popularity, and understandably, Microsoft is introducing Windows 11 to keep up as a result. Windows 11 features a new look, themes and personalization...
As you can imagine, people aren’t happy with Microsoft’s vague explanation. In the comments of Microsoft’s video, people are basically yelling at the tech giant to reverse these requirements.
Some users said that “Windows 11 will be another Windows 8”, while others criticized Microsoft’s explanation of minimum requirement. “These requirements are just a marketing ploy” by Microsoft, another user stated.
At the time of writing, the unlisted video on YouTube has not been well received by Microsoft customers and it has been disliked by more than 300 people.
Comments on Microsoft’s video have now been disabled. LOOOL
And microsoft should stop talk about improved security as main reason for the new HW requirements. Win 11, same as Win 10 will be a security mess whatever they try to lure you to think.
Microsoft PrintNightmare Hack Grants Windows Admin Privileges In Latest Security Facepalm hothardware.com
Earlier in July, the PrintNightmare vulnerability was discovered, wherein a threat actor could exploit the vulnerability to gain system-level access to a device. This was only speculation at first, but that has now changed, as cybersecurity researcher Benjamin Delpy has shown. Since the discovery of PrintNightmare, Delpy has been working to both investigate and exploit it for research purposes. Initially, he reported that he could achieve both remote code execution and local privilege escalation using PrintNightmare on a fully patched server with “Point & Print” enabled. Following that development, Delpy was more recently able to create a web-hosted printer that leveraged the vulnerability on any PC that connected to it. -
Saying even this: " We're still going to block you from upgrading your device to an unsupported state since we really want to make sure that your devices stay supported and secure" sounds desperate, and disappointingly pathetic. Arbitrary "unsupported state". Microsoft REALLY want you to buy a new machine to replace your perfectly working well in spec machine for a feature that isn't even necessary. Windows 11 won't survive this way. That huge influx of Linux users? It's Windows 11 doing that in the future. -

Or one's PC will be outdated enough to buy a new one. Or move to Linux. Plenty of possibilities! -

Linux performs 15 percent better than Windows 10 sweclockers.com | Yesterday
In a test suite consisting of 27 different applications, Linux manages to pull away from Windows 10 and Windows 11 by a good margin.
Compared to Windows 10, Clear Linux delivers an average of about 13 percent higher performance . The situation for Microsoft's operating system gets worse with Windows 11

Microsoft is not copying Apple
Some people believe that Windows 11’s design elements like centered Start Menu and rounded corners are inspired by macOS. This is not true, according to Microsoft.
“ Good design tends to be similar we learn from each other but Fluent has been around a long time and we’re evolving with how people use our device,” said Kevin Gallo, head of the developer platform at Microsoft.
“You know that’s changing all the time as we just kind of use devices in new novel ways and combine them… “You know they might look familiar but our goal is that these things really do you know feel natural normal,” he added.
Sure.

Something like Arch on the other hand, true. But if you are a pleb and really want Arch you go Manjaro.
But they days of compiling software from source code are over. There are so many choices to go user friendly in Linux, just wish there was more first party software support.
But my argument still stands between testing Linux and Windows performance when "99%" of what I use daily doesn't run on Linux natively.
I mean it's cool and all, but what should I do with this knowledge? Just maybe wish MS would improve Windows, that's all...

And Win 10 have the same Microsoft Store, same Cloud storage and same web browser as Win 11. Say people have to trash their fully working machines at this date/year won't be easy

What's not being mentioned or looked at is the performance degradation between "square corners" in Windows 7 vs Windows 11, or even square corners in Windows 10 vs. Windows 11.
I guess time will tell.
