    KMS activation and HW Id system work only because M$ allows them. All the third party services and MS own licensing system for Windows works only because Microsoft does it. They know LTSC is used, they know Win7 Loader exists, they know every single thing. But why do you think they allow all of it ? It's marketshare. Microsoft wants to be the "World's Operating System" and they succeeded in that. From first world nations to economically broken nations, everyone knows Windows OS and uses it. They however do not like people controlling their OS. Which is why Windows 7 was purged from many people's computers. Same for 8.1 as well. But only the resilient folks use those OSes and they just work fine, however getting it to work on latest HW is an advanced to expert level task. It is possible and people do it and are doing it and Windows 7 gets latest updates needed as well in 2021.

    The avg. joe doesn't know an ounce about any part of Windows DISM nor LTSC of Windows 10 and majority of these so called "gamers" run Windows 10 Pro / Home because they also use that Xbox UWP DRM system Gamepass, coz it's cheaper, this is not there in LTSC by default but you know Forza Horizon 4 works on LTSC without it, how ? Xbox services can be added back to LTSC release (Steam Win32 FH4 also needs those Xbox services to run). Even if the numbers seem high to us who use LTSC, but on a grand scale it's very small user base only technically sound folks use it.

    If you see Steam discussion forums regarding some new games which do not use DX12 but run on Windows 7/8.1, there are ton of MS Win10 fans there. If anyone even asks how to run on Win7, you will see bemoaning from a massive horde of zombie bots who attack the author. Even if the topic is not relevant for them. That's the absolute pathetic state of Windows right now. Also M$ spending more time to change their validation and licensing system just for a bunch of folks is not worth it, that's what I think. Plus they get ton of Licenses from Notebook market where end user pays the licensing.

    It's not the fact people are running LTSC.
    It's the fact that people are running LTSC to evade telemetry and targeted marketing.
    MShaft makes lots of money from those 2 lovely undesirables.
    A singled out target to get the wayward sheep to return to the fold.
    Screw over LTSC and make more monies, right ?
    An easy solution to what was never really a significant problem but was a 'burr under the saddle' so to speak.

    Does that explain it better ?

    It is going to be a never-ending battle, kind of like ads on websites - we use extensions like Ad Block to block ads, but more and more websites insist you whitelist them before letting you see their content.

    Microsoft is known for screwing up with changes. Use translator... https://www.borncity.com/blog/2021/...s-von-der-ssu-integration-in-cus-august-2021/

    I can't see they want to change how it works for the sub 1.2% users who most of them ain't their target for ads. For the time they pust most of their resources on the coming Win 11. So we won't see a flood going after the better option as 2019 LTSC. Screw up for sub 0.5% ordinary users ain't profitable or very smart.

    I think what @N2ishun was trying to say was that M$ might do something to prevent everyone moving to LTSC en masse.
    And yes, they are being really greedy. Even the free Solitaire games in the store have ads - with countdown timers so you have to watch them. :(

    No, I meant they will go after the *allegedly* 1.2% (those charts are never really correct are they?).
    1.2% is still quite a few million people considering billions use MShaft.

    It's just an avalanche of new purchases with win11 already loaded and paid for on them that takes the cake. Average users don't bother with pretty much all the stuff listed here, we're the holdout atypicals lol Then they start locking out on a hardware level, an obviously malicious behavior, preventing license holders of older windows from just loading what's already paid for and preferred on there. Not to mention even if they allowed that, they already get paid for the unused OS in the new hardware purchase price. But there's an avalanche of used hardware to get around all that on some level. Requiring latest dx a way to force gamers to pay again too if they want the latest games. I'm getting to the point that there are so many games that I can run now that games that only run the latest dx13 etc are a no go. I mean when is it an unhealthy addiction anyways. Typical software that's older can run on everything so far, unless the dev or win specifically block it, like older ccleaners.

    You just can't assume or expect all LTSC licenses is used of ordinary people and not those this version was meant to be for. Maybe 1/2 of the licenses but this numbers can also still be too many.

    Yep, Microsoft show up their ugly behaviour.

    Microsoft is making it harder to switch default browsers in Windows 11 thewerge.com | Today

    Competitors aren’t happy...

    Microsoft justifies these changes as allowing Windows users to have more control over default apps. “With Windows 11, we are implementing customer feedback to customize and control defaults at a more granular level, eliminating app categories and elevating all apps to the forefront of the defaults experience,” says a Microsoft spokesperson in a statement to The Verge.

    Windows 11 Build 22000.160 with ISO images winaero.com

    Microsoft today released a new Windows 11 build to Dev and Beta channel insiders. This is the first build to include a new 'Focus' feature in Alarms and Clocks. Finally, Microsoft is rolling out the estimated update time to a wider audience.

    -----------------------------------------------------

    Windows 11’s Default Browser Situation Is so Messed Up, Firefox Hacked It reviewgeek.com

    Windows 11 killed the quick default app page. Now, if you want to set a new default browser, you need to go to the default app page, and one by one, set a new browser for the HTM, HTML, PDF, SHTML, SVG, WEBP, SHT, FTP, HTTP, and HTTPS extensions. It is, in a word, ridiculous. And browser companies aren’t happy about it.

    Firefox seems to be taking matters into its own hands with a new update. Starting today, you’ll actually see behavior that resembles Windows 8 and earlier. When you launch Firefox, it will ask if you want it to be the default browser and if you agree, it will just work. No settings panel, no extensions; Firefox is now your default browser. We tested it in the latest release, and it worked.

    Microsoft goes lean on PrintNightmare. Security will come last.

    Nice summed up. Fits damn vell also for Win 11.

    Microsoft does and does, but cannot eliminate the source of the weaknesses. Basically, all that was left to do was rewrite the entire print spooler service to get out of this mess. But you want to avoid that and prefer to draw beautiful new pictures for users in the form of newly designed icons and user interface - but under the hood you have been dragging pretty broken code with you for decades. But as long as the user community happily greets every newly painted icon, Microsoft can continue to drive this boot.

    I don't know if anyone noticed it in Edge Chromium Business edition msi installer, the browser choice startup task now gets created automatically even after disabling or deletion through autoruns. It started from 92.0.7x

    After basically forcing myself to use Windows 11 for the past 5 or 6 weeks I finally reached the place that I couldn't stand it anymore and I restored my Macrium Reflect image of Windows 10. The Windows 11 GUI limitations are very frustrating to me. It is such a fugly piece of [insert vulgar word for feces] that I am surprised I was able to put up with it for as long as I did. It seems to perform a tiny bit better in benchmarks, but I find it difficult to find anything nice to say about it. It's just a crappy product.

    Edit: Only reason i haven't install Linux is because of the Sky PRO II i have doesn't support linux unless someone has a way to do it.

    There's so much loss of functionality and dumbing down of the OS that I find it really difficult to understand how anyone could consider this an improvement. It's very sad that anyone would consider these changes acceptable. I mean come on... Something as simple as accessing a right-click menu has turned into a ridiculous two-step pain in the ass. The people that designed the new UI are either retarded, extremely stupid, or taking some really bad drugs.

    Did they replace the basic paint app like in win10? thankfully was able to get that back though. Is basic notepad still in there? Those two are a huge chunk of my daily usage. The biggest reason I saw besides new hardware, for the switch to 10 was that it was "free", will this be free? Any news on an LTSC type of release for win11?

    Yes you'll most certainly still be able to use the basic paint app, note pad, word pad. Yes it is a "free" upgrade from Win 10.
    On a personal note, "free" means subjugating more of your information to big tech, "upgrade" is not the word I would use either. And as @Mr. Fox stated above, there's still a good chance that the architects of this disaster called Windows 11 were most likely impaired by one substance or another and will continue to willfully remain impaired as they orchestrate any future "improvements."

    Yep it will be free as long your computer can meet Win 11 hardware requirements. If not you will probably need buy an Win 11 lisence on the grey market and hope Microsoft don't patch all loopholes for you to install the Win 11 ISO.

    Ok but if anyone remembers the old paint was changed to paint3d in win10 so had to get a hack to enable the simpler older paint, from the posts above they mention specifically a redesigned paint app, seems like you'd still need a hack to get old paint back if it's even still in there.

    Win 11 is like Vista. I remember Vista certified laptop had too much trouble running x86 on 1GB RAM and most of them either downgraded to XP and upgraded to 7. Win 11 is more like Vista but most PCs can run it w/o any issue but due to security issue 80% of the PC will be left out of W11 for somewhat better customisable Win 10 small version upgrades.

    Thankfully there's always years of overlap in these OS so no need to jump right in, there's never really "free" when it comes to almost anything and certainly win10 was/is a massive data grab/privacy leak over previous windows. But I'm glad you guys are active right from the get go so we can be aware of some details of it when we really have a definite need to install. I sort of take the idea that the wheel I already have works for what I need and uses almost no resources, I don't need a redesigned "improved" wheel for my needs. Classic paint, photo viewer etc fit in that category.

    Idk I gave a, random easily found via search, link to hacks to get back the basic progs I use a lot, and I have my own experience, all I can say and it seems that it will be the case with 11 since it's just a devolution of 10.

    Yeah change for the sake of change, even if it's to a worse less usable thing. They've got the whole new systems pre-installed licensing racket setup, the whole universal drivers and compatibility racket setup so just throw something out there every few years just to keep that money pot full. It's also a huge platform for subscription services of all kinds and obviously data mining/nsa stuff. Oh and while they're at it require us to buy new hardware etc etc etc

    It almost doesn't matter how bad it is, it's almost a complete monopoly. Software makers are probably dissuaded in subtle(and not so subtle) ways by M$ for having full Linux(or apple) compatibility too. M$ like the standard oil(now under hundreds of names but still controlled by the same people) of computers/software, except for their "rival" Apple.

    It very much feels like the Windows development team is either incapable of making any good decisions about product design, or they are really sick bastards that take great pleasure in doing things that are irritating and/or frustrating to most Windows users and degrading to the product that they support. Only the dumbest of the Kool-Aid drinking sheeple embrace the flurry of downgrades and GUI damage they have caused as being good, useful or beneficial. When we add in the totally idiotic Secure Boot and TPM requirements of Windows 11, it merely reinforces what an idiotic, out of touch, pathetic, worthless and unredeemable bunch of control freaks they are. I find it nearly impossible to muster any amount of respect for what they do that makes each post-Windows 7 SP1 release of Windows worse than the version that came before it. We are swiftly approaching a state of utter hopelessness that it could ever again be viewed as anything more than a necessary evil that has to be tolerated; rather than being viewed as a desirable product that Windows users actually want to use as the front end that allows them to run the actually important software installed on their PC. It is truly an undesirable piece of crap that is becoming an impediment to having a gratifying PC ownership experience. I'm convinced that they lack the ability, skillset or desire to do a good job at anything at this point.

    I'm curious, has anyone tried to dual boot with a TPM2.0 module functioning ?

    I've never tried it, but I don't use/allow TPM to be enabled on my systems. I have no need or basis for it, so there is no reason I would need to test the idea to see what happens. (FYI, it is also not necessary to have UEFI, Secure Boot or TPM 2.0 functioning for installing Windows 11 if you know the workaround to bypass those stupid requirements.)

    Yes, take a backup and then clean install the new version of Windows. I have done this for almost every major release of Windows, which is every 6 months or so for Windows 10. Formatting the disk prior to installing, or deleting the partition(s) during installation itself makes sure the new version starts off with a clean slate, and also gets rid of the accumulated junk (including stuff left over from apps you had tried and subsequently uninstalled).

    There is no need for a proper working Start Menu if more and more people want to jump on Touch-books. It was a reason Microsoft screwed up Win 8. Touch was in the wind but failed. Now they try once again make it disgusting for the desktop users.

    Exclusive survey: Windows 11 will be adopted rapidly, a lot of users going for touch devices windowsreport.com

    From what we’ve gathered online, there are only two sides to this story: you like it or you hate it. Luckily enough, the Redmond giant is giving you the option to revert to your previous OS, but only in the first 10 days after the upgrade. Yeep, no need for people stay on the new Apple copy-cat.

    I am dual booting Win 11 Pro with Win 10 Pro on separate SSDs (without TPM), but with secure boot enabled. I don't see why it would not work with TPM enabled, but could not test this myself as my machine is too old :rolleyes:

    I wonder if the check isn't in the Beta releases or perhaps you're using an earlier Beta that didn't check? All accounts are that TPM is required for Windows 11.

    He may have used the bypass during installation. Circumventing the requirement is very easy.

    I just downloaded Win 10 21h1 and Win 11 official images directly from Microsoft and rebuild Win 10 iso using Win 11 install.wim/esd file. This skips the requirements check for the tpm device and let’s you install Win 11 onto any computer using new Win 11 gui.

    The Redmond reprobates wanted to see what they could get away with. Fortunately, not very much. It's sad that they only respond to outrage and don't care unless it means they have to in order to get the sheeple to install their crappy, ugly OS. It's hard to get excited about products from idiots like that. They don't care about doing the right thing. At any rate, it did my soul good to see such massive outrage directed at them. It's unfortunate that we don't see that kind of response more often about more things, but the bar is set pretty low due to ignorant and apathetic consumers/feckless citizens.

    The bypass is easy. No modding required.

    Before starting, save the code below as a registry file. I named it bypass.reg
    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Setup\LabConfig]
    "BypassTPMCheck"=dword:00000001
    "BypassSecureBootCheck"=dword:00000001
    Put that file in the root directory on your Windows 11 USB installation media.

    Now, to install Windows 11 on your "incompatible" system that you want to remain incompatible, follow these steps...

    Start the installation of Windows 11 as you normally would and when you see the "This PC can't run Windows 11" bullcrap message appear:
    1. Press Shift + F10 to open a command prompt
    2. At the command prompt, navigate to the root directory of your USB installation media.
    3. Type the name of the registry file you created (bypass.reg if you named it what I did) and press enter
    4. You will be prompted to confirm you want to merge with the registry, so confirm that you do and you should see a confirmation that it did so
    5. Close the command prompt window
    6. When you are returned to the Windows Setup screen telling you it is "incompatible" click the back arrow and then restart the installation process.
    7. The incompatibility message will be gone and you can install it without interference.

    I did this on three systems with the BIOS set to CSM/Legacy mode, MBR drives and no TPM and had no complications other than my disdain for the product after it was installed.

    Wow, that’s even easier than playing with the installation media. I will use this method next time if I need to reinstall Win 11, thanks.

    Note that the standard Windows setup will try to connect to the internet and download updates that might undo all this. We are still a couple of months from the official release so be wary of M$ pulling out a few more tricks out of their sleeves. I'd recommend installing Windows with the internet disconnected, do the setup using a local account, and (if you really want to) switch to the Microsoft account later.

    Btw., is there a similar hack for bypassing the CPU check?

    Quoting a post from another forum:

    Setup DU from 22000.120 added a file 'cpufms.ini' which contains CPU iteration check.

    Code:
    [BlockARM]
    ARMv81ProcessorSupport=FALSE

    This blocks ARMv8.1 and below CPUs. That means, only Cortex-A75 / Cortex-A55 and above are supported. Raspberry Pi 4 unfortunately is unsupported.

    Code:
    [BlockIntel]
    CpuFamily=6
    CpuModelLessThanOrEqual=95
    CpuModelException=85

    This blocks any CPU that is Skylake or Apollo Lake and below, with the exception of Skylake-X being supported.

    Code:
    [BlockIntelKabyLake1]
    CpuFamily=6
    CpuStepping=9
    CpuModel=142
    PlatformIDException=0x00000010

    This blocks low-power Kaby Lake CPUs, with the exception of Y series like 4415Y (used on MS's Surface Go) and m3-7Y30, etc.

    Code:
    [BlockIntelKabyLake2]
    CpuFamily=6
    CpuStepping=9
    CpuModel=158
    PlatformIDException=0x00000008

    This blocks standard-power Kaby Lake CPUs, with the exception of H series like 7700HQ, 7820HQ (used on MS's Surface Studio 2), etc.

    Code:
    [BlockAMD]
    CpuFamilyLessThanOrEqual=22

    This blocks any AMD CPU prior to Ryzen.

    Code:
    [BlockAMDRaven]
    CpuFamily=23
    CpuModel=17

    This blocks 1st Gen Ryzen APUs (200GE, 2200G, 2400G, etc.)

    Code:
    [BlockAMDSummitRidge]
    CpuFamily=23
    CpuModel=1

    This blocks 1st Gen Ryzen non-APU CPUs, with the exception of Zen+ CPUs like 1600AF.

    I'm pretty sure I read the final version isn't going to be hardware limited but official support will be an unknown on "unsupported hardware".

    My concern's not just Microsoft but those who provide drivers. Intel could just snip support for Windows 11 for old devices. Just my 2 cents.

    Official Windows 11 ISOs will not hard block most PCs with CPUs that aren't officially supported windowscentral.com

    Unsupported PCs can still join the fun, even if Microsoft doesn't recommend it.

    Microsoft spokespeople have today clarified that users who choose to manually upgrade or clean install Windows 11 this fall using ISO media or the Media Creation Tool will not be hard blocked based on the CPU generation requirements as laid out by Microsoft's official requirements list.

    Microsoft’s loophole will allow Windows 11 on ‘unsupported’ hardware windowslatest.com
