Yes, you are absolutely correct. It certainly can. It has damaged 2 NVMe and outright killed 1 NVMe SSD on my systems. That happened on two systems (2 NVMe on one system and 1 NVMe on another system) when Windows Update moved the crash test dummy OS from 1903 to 20H2. It also happened to @Prema on one of his systems. I was able to repair the two Samsung NVMe SSDs using Linux to reset the hidden partition with the controller firmware. The one that was permanently killed with the 20H2 "upgrade" was an Eluktronics-branded Intel NVMe. The fix using Linux did not work on it.

So, the most correct statement isn't that any OS can damage your hardware, Windows can actually damage your PC. I've locked up many a computer messing around with Arch, which never resulted in not being able to use the PC again, and was entirely my own doing.
2025...I wonder if M$ is going to really deprecate Win10 or continue to support its last, best OS? To be clear, best as in, the best M$ has been able to muster in its closed source, bug-laden echo chamber, not the best OS.Spartan@HIDevolution and Papusan like this. -

A new Microsoft Surface Pro X is coming with Windows 11 windowslatest.com - September 20, 2021
Microsoft is apparently working on a new Surface Pro X with an upgraded internal chipset and Windows 11 on ARM. The Surface Pro (2021) has been the subject of the latest leak on certification websites,...
This leak comes courtesy of Energy Star certifications, which show that Microsoft is testing a new Surface Pro X with Windows 11 and it will run the Snapdragon SQ processor. It should be noted, however, that the Surface Pro X is listed on the Energy Star website with Snapdragon SQ2.

Windows 11 compatibility: PC Health Check returns for everyone windowslatest.com - September 21, 2021
Microsoft spent the last three months testing the "PC Health Check" for Windows 10, a free tool that allows anyone to determine why their PC doesn't meet the minimum hardware requirements of Windows 11. Following extensive testing, Microsoft’s compatibility checker app is finally out of beta and now available to anyone who wants to try it out.
Yep right in time before the different OEMs start push out their new tacky and nasty jokebooks. The new Health Check tool from Redmond will help a lot to boost the sales.Vasudev, jclausius, SierraFan07 and 3 others like this. -
The new tool tells me my computer is capable of secure booting, but doesn't mention that secure boot is currently not enabled. I guess that means that Microsoft is confident that Windows setup will automatically (and successfully) enable secure booting on my system.

Yep, Microsoft really want that you swap/scrap out your +3-4 years old fully working high performance laptop/pc's with their new laptablets. Higher performance from your older HW ain't so important. You need a pen and touch!

As a footnote... Apple goes the opposite way and will allow even older Apple computers from 2013 run on their next OS.
Microsoft failed hard with their all too rigid OS requirements for a OS that is in short a Win 10 but with new lipstick.
They can't even release a OS meant for normal dektops/laptops.
Windows 11’s Taskbar Won’t Be Finished Before Release
This Taskbar Wasn’t Meant for Most Windows Desktops
Overall, the taskbar looks pretty good. But there’s a serious problem with it: It wasn’t originally designed for typical Windows desktops and laptops. This taskbar was originally part of Windows 10X, an operating system designed for dual-screen devices—one that Microsoft never released.
Windows is supposed to be a powerful, flexible operating system. It’s a shame that, at a time when Apple is making drag-and-drop more powerful on iPhones, Microsoft is making it less usable on Windows.Last edited: Sep 22, 2021Ashtrix, SierraFan07 and KING19 like this. -

Fantastic news for those of you that will be screwed by the new Win 11 hardware requirements. I expect Microsoft try to lessen the pain (or at least try to reduce the the affected's anger), LOOL
Windows 10 21H2 brings no changes to hardware requirements winaero.com
Microsoft releases Windows 11 (and Office 2021) on October 5, 2021, for devices that meet minimum hardware requirements. If your computer has an 8th gen Intel CPU or 2nd gen AMD Ryzen CPU with SecureBoot and TPM 2.0, you can expect Windows 11 to arrive on your device via Windows Update. Older computers will have to stick to Windows 10, which is on track to receive a feature update somewhere alongside Windows 11. Microsoft is yet to announce the release date, but the company has already shed some light on hardware requirements.
Remember they said you can stay on Win 10. So yep, they stand behind their words, HaHa

Windows 11 will supposedly be full of popups and adds windowsreport.com | Sept 23, 2021

- The Redmond company said that it is planning to include an enhanced Tips app for the upcoming operating system.

- So, whether we like it or not, Microsoft is preparing to deploy a new and enhanced Tips app, to assist us whenever we need.

Your new Surface Device can operate on Windows 10 or Windows 11 windowsreport.com
The ability of users to get the OS version they need is much easier than having IT admins compile driver packs, re-image the devices and then distribute them. It will be a long, cumbersome task hence the decision to run on either.

Wow, that's quite the disparity in latency with the L3 cache between Windows 10 LTSC and Windows 11 Pro.
Windows 10 LTSC looks like it's the best overall for bandwidth and latency.Spartan@HIDevolution and Mr. Fox like this. -
This is with W11 debloated started from a cold boot, idling on the desktop with no programs launched since reaching the desktop other than winver, Task Manager and snip tool. And, as you might imagine, it's far more heavy on resource overhead prior to debloating.
Compare it to LTSC in the same scenario. Totally ludicrous. Both are packing the stupid bloatware payload ASUS requires for their system support programs to function.
Last edited: Sep 25, 2021Ashtrix, jclausius, anytimer and 1 other person like this. -
though in your W10 LTSC screenshot you have build 17763.107 instead of the 2nd refresh of LTSC which was build 17763.316, Mr. Fox
{I might be a little "nitpicking" here about that}
MS quietly released updated W10 LTSC install media in early March 2019 that contained 17763.316
indeed, MS cares more about the big corporations and enterprises than the consumers & home users -

MediaCreationTool.bat: download Windows 11 ISOs and bypass system compatibility checks ghacks.net Sept 27, 2021
MediaCreationTool, bat is a useful script for Windows to download Windows ISO images from Microsoft servers. The developer has updated the program recently; the latest release introduces support for downloading Windows 11 ISO images and includes a standalone script to toggle the Windows 11 compatibility checks during setup.
I reviewed the MediaCreationTool back in March 2021 when support for Microsoft's Windows 10 version 21H1 system was added by its developer.
The latest version includes support for downloading a Windows 11 ISO image from Microsoft. Microsoft will update its Media Creation Tool when Windows 11 is released, likely on the day of release on October 5, 2021. The tool is useful, as it includes functionality to copy the operating system to a USB drive or create an ISO image which can be burned to a DVD.Last edited: Sep 27, 2021 -
Game mode offers no performance benefit.
Balanced is the best power plan. It gives you high performance when you need it and power savings when you need it. There is no performance difference between the high performance and balanced power profiles.
