My understanding is that the reason Rocket Lake's IPC gains didn't really manifest themselves is because of inter-core latency.
I'm glad AVX 512 is going away. That piece of crap just made CPUs draw a crapton more power without doing anything more useful than regular integer operations.

Just watched the whole event. Basically nothing new. They imitated Apple so hard, felt like ultra cringe, that Panos says Windows is always about understanding past and shills for us to buy the new PC that all the OEMs are making for Win11. It's a joke at this point how he mentions it's all about past. Shameless. Below are takeaways from the event.
New MS Store policies what we heard, Everything is 100% going to the developers all Win32, PWA, UWP support. As a Service monetization support like Adobe CC and etc. This is to improve their pathetic userbase and horribly garbage eye sore UI of that store with massive space waste just like the whole Win11 UI. This is probably to take a jab at Apple for their gated bs.
Whole event they only showed pathetic laptops and Surface trash with some touch UI experiences and that centered Start + Taskbar with same UI changes from the leaked build.
More Bloatware Xbox Game Pass / MS Teams bloatware directly included in the Win11 along with that News panel and etc plus Start is having MS365 integration it seems.
Graphics API is DX12, from the ISO dxdiag it says 2.7 but TechPowerUp GPU-Z screenshots and some news mentions it's WDDM3.0 with some new WSLg, Linux GUI apps support, I'm expecting fall Win10 will also have new WDDM update.
Android apps compat, who tf wants to run Android apps on Windows ? I don't want any of the Android "Apps" because we already have Win32 "Applications" which are inherently superior, remember WinDirStat ? It just works on Windows and helps us to check all the junk or important files. On Android there was one, DiskUsage, but guess what ? Scoped BS Storage on Android10+ makes it useless pos.
Updates are smaller it seems and background, maybe a slight change. I think they did change something on SSE and CU system which reduced the constant all update installation to a single pack now... probably same like Win10.
Nothing for Desktop PC UX. Absolute nothing, why would they when all these use those Surface and other iPad Apple junk.
No upgrade news mentioned as in free update for Win10 / 8.1 / 7 no news, nothing on Secure Boot or other mandatory changes mentioned, except that usual bs of most secure.
No mention of pricing. What is the policy for updates and etc and versions.
What an absolute train wreck, this is just a new coat of paint for those pathetic use and throw BGA machines to sell more and make more money through OEM licensing since it's a new Windows version now with that discarded joke of an UX from 10X project. Purely business made decision and wanted to move away from Win10 marketing and add some more revenue generating and data mining into the mix. This just proves all the talent that made old OSes up until 7 are gone. Only the core Kernel team is alive at this point.
Win32 aint going anywhere, as I personally feel that Win32 is drastically superior to any API on this planet from Operating Systems standpoint that has god tier compatibility and it won the Survival of the Fittest challenge to it. However note that some .exe and DRMs have problems with Win10 and needed updates esp games and etc. Win11 expect more old stuff to break despite the superiority of the NT Kernel Win32 system which many journo fools call it "Legacy". UWP couldn't stand on itself until they made it full Xbox Gamepass Infrastructure platform and now some more partner garbage like Abode will come. It won't change a thing. Only worry is how they break the UI more.
CEO says how Windows is a "Personal" OS and more than OS, hypocrisy at finest when they bombard the user with all their Corporate News / Services / Telemetry / Lack of Local Account creations. They babbled a damn lot for the whole event. On that guy also mentioned "First Version of Windows for next decade" So I'm expecting there will be Win12 at some later point of time.Last edited: Jun 24, 2021 -
Windows 11 Is Out! Panos Panay Introduces Us to a Centered Start Menu That Puts “You at the Center”
Windows 11 Will Be Required to Run the New DirectStorage API
However, by far the biggest news tidbit is that the upcoming DirectStorage API will be exclusively available on Windows 11.
With a high performance NVMe SSD and the proper drivers, Windows 11 can soon load new games faster than ever thanks to a breakthrough technology called DirectStorage, which we also pioneered as part of the Xbox Velocity Architecture featured in the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.
With DirectStorage, which will only be available with Windows 11, games can quickly load assets to the graphics card without bogging down the CPU. This means you’ll get to experience incredibly detailed game worlds rendered at lightning speeds, without long load times. “DirectStorage Optimized” Windows 11 PCs are configured with the hardware and drivers needed to enable this amazing experience.
Windows 11 Will Be a Free Upgrade – Official Requirement Checker Goes Live
After the release of Windows 10 back in 2015, Microsoft had promised free upgrades for eligible devices for one year. However, that offer was extended and continues to work to this day. Now that the company is ready to move on with the introduction of Windows 11, it was expected that it'll still be a free upgrade.
Windows 11 System Requirements – Releasing for Public This Fall with a Free Upgrade Offer
Windows 11 system requirements
Here are the minimum Windows 11 system requirements that confirm that the operating system will be the first that is only made for 64-bit devices.
- 64-bit dual-core processor
- 1Ghz clock speed
- 64GB drive (up from 32GB for Windows 10)
- 4GB RAM
- UEFI, Secure Boot, and TPM 2.0
- 9-inch display
- 1366 x 768 resolution
- DirectX 12 compatible graphics / WDDM 2.x

Windows 11 is finally going to be updated once a year
Microsoft is also simplifying how support works for each version. With Windows 10, each version got 18 months of support, but the second update in a year would get 36 months of support for Enterprise and Education editions. Now, every update will have 24 months of support for Home and Pro editions, while Enterprise and Education users will get 36 months of support on all releases. For Windows 10 users, Microsoft also explained that the update process to Windows 11 will be similar to a feature update to Windows 10.

Maybe touch gaming will be the next? The new OS is crated for the gamers and productivity. Yep, this is the proper way to use your pc. No need for the old fashion mouse or mouse pad anymore. But you'll have to buy a loads of cleaners/paper towels for the screen and your hands and fingers
Because slimy screens ain't nice.
And the working position with touch as in the pict is terrible and will lead to an increase in work-related injuries.

This is disgusting. I'm happy camper with Enterprise LTSC/Pro but this disgusting move for the cannon fodder is pretty awful. Can this be allowed? I hope this will become as a new case for the EU regulations/laws for privacy concerns. Those of you who can't afford or don't think Pro is worth it and hence paid less, shouldn't lose their privacy. This is against the EU laws.
Amazing this is still accepted by the U.S laws (Microsoft is still a U.S company and have to follow the law makers). Discrimination like this should be caught up of the lawmakers.

The Taskbar thing kept me worried when the ISO leaked that all the settings were removed and some generic crap options onto Settings UWP system. I couldn't find information on their new Taskbar system changes that they mentioned above, the link for Taskbar Docs they have doesn't apply for Win11 because its not updated yet.
It definitely feels and looks like UWP only system with Win32 wrapped inside for compatibility. Also they mention Apps cannot change Taskbar elements. Not sure how to interpret that only way to interpret is it's not exclusive Shell32 anymore but UWP on top of that.
On a negative take (which is what I'm expecting it to be) that means IF it's 100% absolute on what they meant then StarDock WindowBlinds, StartisBack, Aeroglass and OpenShell need a big overhaul to be able to modify it properly, and work very well with all their options intact. Look here, OpenShell works but not properly with the Win11 leaked ISO. But it's not RTM or Insider Preview so no good news so far.
But like a few shell extension mods for Foobar which I use won't work (It display's progress bar for the track playing, and some customization options for preview small peek that we get on hover, none of them will work on 11 then), here's more info on that Foobar2K extension that I use.
This is sad. With that Taskbar no Labels like Win7 that can be stacked and combined, they had basic rectangles with Aero glow for open applications. That's is fundamental of Windows since Windows 95 to Windows 10 damn it for multitasking. Not just Win7 Aero, every single Windows had that. And they killed it without remorse for some Touch Screen fanatic dumb idiotic hires. Pathetic dumb fools.
This is a big thing. Nobody cares apparently...
Rant ---
If OpenShell and other shell modifiers won't work on this OS. I'm not going to use this at all. This pile of dung only belongs in a dumpster. DX12 DirectStorage can be dumped into same as well, no use on PC since we have DRAM and no speed improvements in gaming for NVMe and SATA SSDs. On top 2025 is still viable and since all games will be DX12 only M$ cannot force some magical BS onto Windows like how they did for Win7 users when Win10 launched. And since all applications will still be Win32 nothing will change for Win10, bonus is LTSC support for 2029 by that damn time, I will be moving to Linux for sure and won't even bother with these dumpster woke games which they are pushing nowadays.

Well here's to hoping there will be a few of the stripped down and cleaned iso's here. I just really only got into 10 the last 3 years so that puts me into 2026-27 for 11 or something else altogether. Also 11 has had a meaning that's becoming more and more frightening as we see more and more of it all over, but that's not something I can discuss here that's for sure.

Microsoft won't allow many older Surface devices to upgrade to Windows 11 pcworld.com
Microsoft's minimum hardware requirements will prevent many of its own older Surface devices, including most Surface Pro tablets, from upgrading to Windows 11.
Of the 25 Surface device families that Microsoft has shipped to date, only 13 will be eligible for Windows 11. Most of Microsoft’s Surface Pro tablets won’t be eligible for an upgrade. Microsoft didn’t list the Surface Hub or Surface Studio among those eligible for an upgrade, either. Simply put, if you own a Surface device that was shipped before 2017, chances are that your device won’t be eligible for the Windows 11 upgrade.
And you'll need a new ssd for the DirectStorage feature if you went the cheap route and bought a smaller NVMe ssd when you bought your computer. Is this a Joke or a typo?
Windows 11 and 1 TB SSD Will Be Required for DirectStorage on PC
[UPDATE] It looks like having an NVMe SSD with 1 TB or greater capacity will be required as well to use DirectStorage on Windows 11, according to the official specifications.
- DirectStorage requires 1 TB or greater NVMe SSD to store and run games that uses the "Standard NVM Express Controller" driver and a DirectX 12 Ultimate GPU.

Windows 10 worked on all machines, which are way old from XP days too. But since MS got all the data they required by datamining from the Win10 installations. They do not need that "junk" (as per them ofc) anymore. Also remember more Thin and Light machines will sell than Desktops so more hardware for braindead consumers. So now you gotta upgrade for their new upgraded experience which is pathetically awful and downgraded Mac / Linux / Tablet mish mash hybrid with no visual and technical direction leadership.
EDIT
@Mr. Fox I have a question for you on the same note of Secure Boot requirements. Can we please know if you installed it onto VM or a HDD/SSD and what BIOS did you run it on. Like for instance if Windows 11 needs Secure Boot ON + Full UEFI, doesn't that mean we have to disable the CSM option ROM from the BIOS, which means any MBR based installation and specifically Windows 7 itself won't be able to boot at all. So that means if we want to boot Windows 11 every time we dual boot out of Windows 7 we have to disable the CSM ?
Damn they are retroactively killing Windows 7 and all installations based on CSM out of existence but at this rate of mandatory requirements and forcing the Skylake and AMD Ryzen 2000 owners out many dumb people using laptops and desktops won't even know how to bypass, this will net them a TON of Cash for OEMs and M$ Win11 licensing alike and datamine more. God knows what Intel will put into new Management Engine and AMD into PSP subsystems on the PCH and Chipsets...Microsoft is really the most evil corporation out there, on par with Apple and Google. Perfect Trifecta of Hellish cancer.
Also younger dumb people do not have basic knowledge of these aspects of an OS forget these they barely know anything remotely related to Control Panel... they only know how to write a java code and use TikTok along while consuming Netflix and IG. These all corporations push the same nonsense of making things "Simpler" meaning dumbing down everything so that people are unaware of anything remotely and only fit to consume not tinker or understand.Last edited: Jun 25, 2021 -

Windows 11 May Spark Scalping for TPM2.0 Chips, a Requirement To Run the OS pcmag.com
The price for TPM 2.0 modules soared for two eBay listings after Microsoft disclosed the security chip is necessary to run Windows 11, which begins rolling out this holiday season.
Microsoft Doesn’t Want You to Upgrade to Windows 11 pcmag.com
Yes, TPM affords more security for your PC, but that’s not why it’s required for Windows 11.
Shut Out of Windows 11: TPM Requirement Excludes Many PCs tomshardware.com
This is a sea change for Microsoft, because the company has previously prioritized new OS adoption over most else. In fact, the company was likely disappointed when it took two years longer than expected to reach 1 billion active monthly devices for Windows 10. With Windows 11, it’s going to take a lot longer and, as with Android devices, there’s likely to be more computers running older operating systems than the latest one for years and years to come. That’s bad news for users and developers.
Bifurcated Windows
At some point it was inevitable that Microsoft would stop supporting really old hardware and, by most accounts, the minimum requirements for Windows 11 are really minimal. However, the TPM requirement by itself may force a lot of people with five year old PCs to either stick with Windows 10 or upgrade to new computers.
The cynic in me says that Microsoft and OEMs are looking for reasons to drive a new PC upgrade cycle. But it’s also inevitable that, to guarantee a decent user experience with graphical features like rounded edges and translucent window widgets or modern security features like secure boot, you need to up your requirements. Just don’t expect to see Windows 11 hit 1 billion active devices any time soon.

I feel really sorry for the people that are so incredibly stupid that they are going to pay for TPM 2.0 modules just so they can have the "privilege" of downgrading to an inferior OS. They should be standing against evil rather than acting like feckless, subservient serfs.Last edited: Jun 25, 2021 -
It's like what Apple does. They put in software locks to keep you from installing certain software on certain OS versions, or to keep you from upgrading your OS. Fortunately these are very easy to override if you have the knowledge like we do. Once forced to install, the software usually works. Having a hackintosh is pretty awesome.
As someone who likes MacOS, I think Apple is a very bad influence on the rest of the tech industry. Don't be like Apple.
This whole forced upgrade crap is probably going to backfire on them, and I really hope it does. Most people are content with their hardware upwards of 8 years since it does what they need it to do. They're not going to be buying new devices anytime soon. This move will probably just make them want to hold onto their hardware longer.KING19, 6730b, Aroc and 1 other person like this. -
It'd be just easier to omit the requirement for TPM 2.0, let alone 1.2. If you want a userbase to stick with you, don't do an action that's bound to shoot yourself in the feet with a 12-gauge shotgun.
Unlike desktops where you can use fTPM or a TPM 2.0 module, it's not easy as that for laptops if they're using hardware TPM that's older than 1.2 or none at all. -
And there is not much more work for the patch team maintaining both OS as both is built on same fundation.
Microsoft: “Windows 11 Is Built on the Same Foundation as Windows 10,” Designed to Coexist

"Since Windows 11 is built on the same foundation as Windows 10, you can use the same deployment capabilities, scenarios, and tools - as well as the same basic deployment strategy that you use today for Windows 10," the note reads.Last edited: Jun 25, 2021 -

Windows 11 is just one example of what happens when really bad and super-stupid people are given (or usurp) the power to make decisions that affect others. What is most stupefying is there will be people that go out and purchase a crippled new POS computer so they can run Windows 11 when they don't actually need to. That is most likely part of their sinister plan. The second most stupefying thing is the idea that some people actually think they "need" Windows 11. It will most likely be the same group of muppets that thought they "needed" Windows 8, 8.X, and 10. We cannot really say they don't know any better at this point; only that they're simply too stupid to figure it out. They never learn from their mistakes, so they are doomed to repeat them.
