ok by simply upgrading, will i lose all the data i will have stored in the build i will be getting now?

this public release, is it going to be officially released by windows on their website?

Yes, the RC will be publicly available to everyone just like the original public beta (build 7000) was. But unlike the original public beta, apparently the RC won't be available for a "limited number of participants over a short period of time" but rather open ended (at least according to a few MSFT technet blogs I read). And it was supposed to be out on April 10 but it looks like the date has slipped into May.

It is cool with me is they slip it a month. I am very happy with the way that MS is paying attention to their Quallity Control.

If you go the upgrade route, you will be able to keep everything: data and applications.

If you choose the 'clean install' route however, you'll lose everything. Backup all data files before you do anything, just incase.

Windows 7 build 7077 is the most recent version the public has got their hands on.
Internally, Windows 7 has reached build 7105.

vista from usb stick: 7-10min, depending on the system. 30min should not make your jaw drop. it's only based on the speed of your dvd-drive actually :)

7068 crapped the startup for me. just slow as hell. reverted back to 7057, made a clean install and is now a primary OS. :) Bootup 16 sec :)

    i just installed 7077x64.

the watermark on the bottom right just says Evaluation Copy. Build 7077 now, as opposed to other builds where it lists the whole name of the .iso.

anyway, running good. kinda still having problems with setting my brightness like i did with 7068; a problem i did not have with 7000.

this will likely be the last build i install til the actual release. kinda getting tired of reinstalling all my stuff.

Anyone have problems safely ejecting devices?

Unlike previous builds, I'm having a problem ejecting my external HDD as it keeps telling me a program is still using it.

Ive actually reinstalled 7077 now to fix this and another problem but it persists.

I should have never switched from build 7000, it was the only one that didnt have any problems.

Im installing 7068 right now but I saw 7077 when I went looking.

So 7000 is supposed to be the best/most stable?

Im up and running had that black screen during install issue.

I though it was the desktop it was all black with just the watermark in the bottom right corner but it must have been part of the install screen.

Googled it and found that you need to start in safe mode its due to multi monitor setups usually.

Did that and got the error that setup cant continue in safe mode, please reboot.

Reboot and back to black screen back and forth.

Found the one fix is a .bat file in the startup folder, but I cant get to it. Thought I had a good idea and booted into Vista and created and placed that file in the startup folder for win7 but no fix still.

At last I had an idea, I can turn off one of my video cards in my bios, and that did it! so up and running now.

I've been installing every leaked build since 68xx, and 7077 is definitely the best so far.

A couple of builds I upgraded, but clean install is DEFINITELY the way to go (for 7707, I decided to just go ahead with the clean install.)

That's exactly what I'm doing. As much fun as it is installing every leaked build, I found (from the Vista beta days) that interim builds are a hit and miss as far as stability goes. RC should be here in less than a month.

I had 7000 when it came out but reverted back to vista as it became to buggy, i've just tried 7077 on my desktop and i'm getting bsod hell, pretty much every 15-20 mins i'm getting them, so i'm just gonna wait till the "Official" RC comes out.

I actually had a lot of problems with build 7000, from driver support to software incompatibilities. Newer builds fix most of those problems, the newer the build, the less problems it has.

Build 7000 was the least buggy to me. It seems like performance improved a little with the newer builds but they are not as stable as 7000 was.

    opposite for me.

speed may have improved with newer builds, but not much. driver support is definitely different though, as i cant get some drivers to work as should.

with 7000 i didnt have any driver issues and with the latest builds ive had several issues, from install problems to brightness settings not working.

For me it's the other way. 7000, drivers were awful. I had to manually edit .inf files of all my vista drivers to make them while in 48 and 57 I only have to do it with my touchpad (well, my touchpad does that with vista sp1 too so...). I haven't had any stability problems on 7057.

7068 and Win 7 as an OS...

    Not so great right now.

It makes everything look bigger, the forums when I open them on firefox have bigger font, the task bar is bigger looking. I dont like this its like its taking space away from me lol. This is on my W90 with a 1920x1080 res, I guess if figures with a high res you can afford to make things bigger, but I prefer it smaller like vista.

I only installed it to test game performance and everything was lower than vista for some reason.

from 22fps maxed out on crysis dx10 to 17fps, Vantage lost about 200 points (not huge), maybe some other games it will do better but crysis took a nose dive.

I was using the newest 9.4 drivers for the ATI cards.

i ddint have much negative to say just didnt see much of a difference from vista 64 please start to point out some of the cooler new features cause besides some minor improvements this isnt a new system its like vista 2.0...that being said i have loved vista from day 1..never had an issue with it..except trying to setup wireless printing which they did upgrade in windows 7

Ah so many leaked builds, this is insane. If 7106 is a lot better than 7077 then I may have to do a fresh install rather than upgrade like I've been doing with all of these past builds.
